Mediterranean Quick-Serve Spot Cava Is Heading to Rittenhouse Square | Eater Philly

"I spotted a sign for Paris Baguette at 1717 Chestnut Street; the chain cafe sells coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, and salads, and in Philly there’s another location in Chinatown at 923 Arch Street. The menu includes breakfast items like an egg-and-cheese on a croissant, a long list of lunchtime sandwiches and salads, savory breads and sweet pastries, and you can also pick up mini-cakes in a cup, slices of cake, or whole cakes. Paris Baguette should open by the end of the year." - Rachel Vigoda

We stopped at this Paris Baguette location a few times while visiting Philadelphia. This was our first time visiting a Paris Baguette, so I can't compare this location to other locations. The morning counter service here was excellent; friendly, fast, efficient. Evening service was fine, but definitely not as good as in the morning. The coffee here was fine, but too bold for our taste (it needed plenty of sweetener and cream). But, I realize that some people prefer a bold coffee, so I'm not deducting any stars for that. The croissants we had here were freshly baked and very good. The fruit tart we had was also good and was loaded with fresh fruit. We also liked the brownie we got. The chocolate chip cookie we had wasn't to my taste, and my companion found it to be just so-so. The cake slice we had was just okay; not particularly moist or flavorful, but still decent enough. Obviously, we must have liked it here if we kept coming back. I would definitely stop in again if I return to Philadelphia.

Google
Bright and clean place! So many pastry choices! They also have a variety of breakfast sandwiches as well as regular sandwiches. Turkey. Grilled Cheese. Chicken Salad. Everything is fresh! They also have coffees and teas as well as juices and water. Comfortable seating. Fast and efficient staff!

Google
The staff is great! The baker left but they were able to help us out and write a message on our cake on such short notice! Albert and Fitri were so kind and got our problem solved in no time.

Google
Timothy, Albert, Amei, and Jeff have been really helpful! The coffee and pastry become even more amazing with the staff being so kind and understanding and efficient with with service during this busy time! First time trying the Korean milk coffee it’s amazing!

Google
The staff was very nice, I had my sandwich heated up and it was delicious! Did not get any pastries but the all looked amazing, like a Parisienne patisserie.

After the first sip of Double Dubai chocolate latte, i was ready to die. It was a no one talk, everybody shut up celestial moment. Everything was amazing. The mochi donut, was equally as fabulous! A must!!!!!!!

Google
One of my favorite spots to grab a coffee and pastry. The sandwiches are great, and the cakes are some of the best in the city—fluffy and perfectly sweet. They always have something interesting for the season.

Google
Tried this place near my hotel stay downtown philly. I got a medium iced caramel macchiato with almond milk and Strawberry Cream Cheese Croissant which was pretty good but a little underwhelming for the price. I give it a 7/10 but it was a good experience to try.

Heather M.

Yelp
Cute place and the food was good, but there were many rude visitors who were apparently camped out there for the day with their laptops plugged in and eating sandwiches from Jimmie Johns ?! This meant there were hardly any seats for paying customers.

Yelp
This is a great place to grab a tea or a coffee drink. A good selection of Matcha, chai, tea, and coffee drinks is available. The chai tea had a lot of flavor. It was a little sweet for me. The lavender Matcha is very good. I like that they have a good variety of teas The English breakfast is very good. The pastries and cakes are yummy. The chocolate cronut was the perfect afternoon treat. It is crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside. The top pair was dipped in dark chocolate. The chocolate cake was also good. It had a creamy chocolate layer with a delicious chocolate ganache icing. The staff is very helpful and nice. The space has a lot of table and chair seating. It is clean and comfortable. Paris baguette also has a good rewards program.

Yelp
I've missed Asian (especially Korean) bakeries and this reminded me of the bakery I would get pastries with my mom. While in town, I visited a couple times and was pleased with the selection. I was excited they had some bread to make sandwiches with. But I also tried blueberry yogurt cake, mixed berry tart and a coffee bun. I enjoyed it all. I would say the coffee bun was interesting and different from the pasties I would normally get. And the blueberry yogurt cake was also good and the yogurt filling helped make it a little less sweet than like regular frosting/icing. The staff was all nice too. One of the ladies gave me recommendations for her favorites when I asked and I appreciated that. The inside was pretty big and I can see people sitting and working out of this space, like a cafe.

Yelp
Had the hot chocolate, mango coconut cake, red bean bun and the choux cream bun today. I loved the red bean and custard bread buns so much!! The mango coconut cake was ok because mangoes were not ripe enough. The hot chocolate was a bit too sweet for me but very rich.

Yelp
I guess let me start by saying I spend over 14.00 dollars on chocolate croissants in all different styles. So yes, I would go back. The coffee was good and I would have like to try more of the menu. It was clean and interesting set up. You grab a tray and fill it with all the items you want. You take to the cashier and they package it to go or eat in when you pay. The staff seemed happy.

Yelp
My husband and I go to the 17th and Chestnut location frequently. Today, after finishing our food and drinks, my husband walked up to the counter and asked for the restroom code, as he's done many times in the past. The young man behind the counter said, it's on your receipt. We selected "no receipt" when making our purchase, but that wasn't enough explanation. He then asked, What did you purchase? Why are you humiliating paying customers? Extremely rude--use better judgment. Shame on you.

Yelp
I will raise my review to 5 stars for some of the things I've eaten recently that were simply fantastic. The Coconut Cream Filled Croissant is simply the best dessert I've had here, hands down. You will feel like you have died and gone to heaven with every bite. Creamy coconut filling (lots of it) with toasted coconut on top, this should be a permanent item on the menu and made the same way as what I had today. I was going to go for my previous fave, the King Cream Donut, but the sheer size of this pastry simply called out to me and I'm glad I answered the call. The Buffalo Chicken and Ranch Pizzetta is a delightful savory lunch item. As I was eating it, I didn't want all the goodness to stop. It was just so good! Every bite had a decent amount of chicken with just enough kick. Iced Matcha Latte is a nice sweet drink. I was thoroughly satisfied with my drink today. It paired well with the slight zing of the Buffalo Chicken and Ranch Pizzetta.

Yelp
I've been to both this Paris Baguette and the one in Chinatown a number of times. Ample seating area but can get packed during the weekends. I like the coffee bun, cream cheese pastry, and curry croquettes a lot. Croissant donut is also tasty and has a filling. All of their cakes are great as well.
google avatar

Noelle W.

Yelp
I've been to Paris Baguette a few times. This time I tried a savory pastry (curry bun) and a sweet pastry (coffee croissant donut) from the self serve area. I also ordered an iced caramel latte. The employee heated up the curry bun for me which was nice. There was a lot of seating available on a weekday during lunchtime which made it a good spot to catch up with coworkers for lunch. I enjoyed looking at the cute full cakes as well.

Yelp
Need a cup of joe or a carb pick me up? Look no further. Paris Baguette has several display cases full of scrumptious pastries and tarts. They're all made fresh and are warmed upon request. I wasn't lucky enough to try any food offerings during my visit, but I did have the pleasure of trying their lavazza cappuccino. They offer fine espresso and many milk options and syrups if you have a preference. Give this place a try, hopefully I'll be back to try their food options.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome for kids, lots of options, coffee / espresso drinks are great. We did breakfast here 4 days in a row, got something different each time and each time was great!
google avatar

Yelp
Adding another photo from another trip! Not sure why it didn't upload. But I love Paris Baguette and it's definitely a great spot for a quick tasty bite to eat.

Yelp
This is my favorite bakery in Rittenhouse! Though Paris Baguette is a chain, this location lives up to the brand's quality. Despite their name, this is actually a bakery chain that originated from South Korea. The staff here are all super friendly. Whenever I get a pastry, they offer to heat it up for me whether I decide to get my pastries to go or dine in. There are always a bunch of people studying or working on their laptops. I assume it's a great study spot for those that enjoy studying at a coffee shop like environment. I have tried their cakes, pastries, and even drinks. I really enjoy their cakes and pastries as their flavors cater more towards the Asian palate (not too sweet). They even offer a great variety of savory pastry options! I've noticed that they're always changing up their menu so you can always drop by to try their newest seasonal items. Their cakes and pastries often change depending on the holiday (not to mention their super cute decorations and themes!).

Yelp
Amazing pastries, coffee and chai. Service was quick! Very clean. Not a lot of seating but we just combined 2 tables for 6 of us.

Yelp
I needed a beautiful Christmas cake to bring to a party. Paris Baguette has the most adorable ones. So cute. It's the cutest cake that you don't feel guilty eating. It's a big hit! I love everything they make here! Enjoy the cafe with sweet and savory treats! Nice service!!!!!

Emily G.

Yelp
A cute, clean place with efficient staff, lots of seating, and a TON of pastries to try -- savory pastries, sweet pastries, proper desserts like cakes and cheesecakes in both single servings and as the whole thing, pastries with fruit, pastries with nuts -- you name it. It was already busy just a little bit after opening, which is always good to see. They'll heat up your cold, packaged breakfast sandwich for you, which I appreciated a lot. I don't drink coffee so I can't speak to that part of the menu, unfortunately. I think the menu was a liiiittle overpriced for what it was but that might just be downtown Philly for you. I did get overcharged (they keyed in a slightly more expensive sandwich than the one I actually got), which doesn't really bother me, but, well, y'know. I kind of just considered it a surcharge for the heating of my sandwich. It was too early in the morning for me to say anything about it.

Yelp
Service was good until I seen the young lady making my coffee playing in her nose. I then asked if she could wash her hands before adding the lid to my coffee. She did as she thought that it was funny. I didn't. I hope she develop better habits moving forward when dealing with food/drinks.

Yelp
Stopped in here because my son was hungry. I didn't really understand the vibe so I went to the cashier and then they told me about grabbing the tray and then getting your own stuff. So I found a hotdog and a piece of cake. The staff wasn't that friendly.. The food was just OK. They have this heater that basically fires up food in like 10 seconds. It really wasn't a great hotdog. Also, the baguette portion was very oily. The multicolored cake was OK. The fresh strawberries on top were a nice touch. What I didn't like was one of the patrons was literally curling her hair with a curling iron next to us, which I'm pretty sure is some kind of issue which would draw attention if this place was visited by the FDA or any food standard. We honestly didn't even know what the smell was. It just smelled like something was burning, and then I realized this lady was curling her daughter's hair. Very strange.

Yelp
Bakery items are huge, cake slices are average. Prices range between $3-$8 for an individual item, though they do sell full cakes. Overall, after sampling the following items, I wasn't that impressed. The presentation was far better than the flavor. I have been to quite a few authentic French patisseries and I can say that this is obviously a chain. It lacks flavor. Tropical mango coconut cake - consisted of layers of vanilla cake and vanilla buttercream frosting, with 1 layer consisting of mango. Cake was topped with frosting and mango chunks and fruits. Edge of cake was covered in coconut flakes. It was good, but disappointing because this is not what I expected. I thought it would have more coconut flavor, but it was mainly a light vanilla cake. Raspberry almond croissant- was nothing to rave about. For a croissant, it was decent. It had almond slivers on top and was basically a croissant filled with raspberry jam filling. I was hoping it would have an almond filling as well but it didn't. The raspberry filling was a simple jam. There wasn't really any overwhelming flavor. It was mostly croissant. Tiramisu- This is one of the better tiramisu's I have had. It has real marscapone cheese, which is unusual and gives it a good flavor. You taste and feel the texture of coffee grounds. It's simple but good. Coffee bread- Tasted like regular bread.
google avatar

Allie A.

Yelp
It was decent. A nice little place to tuck into when it was freezing cold and we needed some shelter and something to warm us up. Shared a hot chocolate - boiling hot and chocolatey enough. We split a few of the most popular pastries. Would've loved to try some of the savory ones, but no room in my belly after a big lunch. All in all, a pleasant half an hour.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
A lot of different pastries to try, both sweet and savory. I like Paris Baguette because I can take my time picking my pastries and scanning my options, without the pressure of a line. I've tried a decent amount of pastries over the years and all were solid in taste and quality. It does sit in their showcase all day though so don't expect it to be warm & toasty. However, there are fridges that keep certain items cold. I recommend their strawberry cheesecake bread and rainbow cake. The rainbow cake tastes like fruity pebbles! This location is very clean and has a ton of seating. The only staff interaction I had was the cashier, no complaints. Just regular friendly customer service.
google avatar

Sammie D.

Yelp
The cake here is phenomenal! We were able to walk in and pick up a chocolate chiffon cake for a birthday the same day and it was one of the best cakes I've ever eaten! They also have coffee and a lot of other delicious bakery items and sandwiches you can pick up from their cases. It was crowded and rightfully so! Definitely recommend trying this place if you haven't!
google avatar

Sharika M.

Yelp
I was craving something sweet after dinner and walked in 2 minutes before closing! They did not give us a hard time, they did not rush us, nor did they give us dirty looks! This is how a business should run! Got myself a matcha mochi donut and it was so warm and soft.

Yelp
If you are in the mood for dessert and want something quick I think paris baguette would be a fine option. The inside has many tables so if you want to read, or study you have that option, but it seems a bit hectic with foot traffic coming and going, so maybe not the best place to do deep work. The pastries come in all sorts of varieties and allow you to choose what you want from the display cases before taking it to the cashier to box up and pay. I had the chocolate chunk cookie, chocolate croissant and the chocolate ganache cake. Everything tasted exactly as I had anticipated, except for the chocolate ganache cake which tasted a little bland, but nonetheless I feel as though my post dinner sweet tooth was satisfied. The drinks looked great and I would love to try them one day. The cookies and croissants are priced fine, but I feel that $7 for the slice of ganache cake was a little high for something that wasn't all that mind blowing. I would still come back and try something else though!

Yelp
Paris Baguette is a chain, but they are also your cute neighborhood bakery and cafe. I used to live nearby and would frequent this location very often to pick up pastries and mochi donuts for my office. My colleagues and I loved the mochi donuts, and we always looked forward to seeing what seasonal flavors were next. Aside from mochi donuts, my favorite pastries are the ham and cheese croissants, hash brown bread, and sweet potato twist. There was a ham and brie pastry on the menu at one point, and it was so tasty, so I hope it comes back one day. The cakes are beautiful, and they are a light and dainty treat. They are sold by the slice or whole. I've tried a lot of the cakes, and I've liked them all. Aside from pastries and cakes, they have a few salads and sandwiches. The drink menu is solid, and they use Lavazza coffee. Grab a tray. Load it up with goodies. Bring it up to the counter. The staff is very polite, and they are pretty quick. It is a small space, but it holds a good number of seats. It is a popular place to study or work at, so it is sometimes hard to find a seat. Sign up for the rewards program. Every $50 spent gets you a free pastry coupon, and they'll randomly send a coupon once in a while for a free coffee or tea.

Yelp
On our way to the car, we saw this bakery and we got some sweets! Everything we got was so delicious. I was pleasantly surprised there were more locations on the east coast so I'll definitely be back to try their food again!
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
What a nice place inside. ! I bought a fruit cup and baguette and the staff were super nice. The baguette was a little plain and not that crunchy but the fruit was good, though they made it with whipped cream instead of custard. Lots of open seating inside.
google avatar

Frank T.

Yelp
Decent place just a few blocks down from my hotel. So glad I walked the extra couple blocks instead of just going to Dunkin. It has an unbelievable pastry collection and all light and fluffy like France. Coffee was hot and fresh and amazingly decent price. Had the ham and cheese croissant which was light and not heavy like other breakfast sandwiches. Great place. Will be back
google avatar

Jesse S.

Yelp
I have lunch here most work days because it's convenient. It's clean inside and the service is fast and polite, but the sandwiches are less than thrilling and they're a bit on the small side for the price.
google avatar

Anny Z.

Yelp
Chain bakery with consistent products. Reliable and love the cakes, the fruit cakes have very light frosting. This particular location is very busy and somewhat loud.
google avatar

Ilene S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a little something sweet.... Ended up sharing a few of their tasty treats., which were all good but nothing that would make me run back for. The sandwiches looked very interesting and worth trying. The hot chocolate was very rich and flavorful.
google avatar

Niki X.

Yelp
Moldy cake - see picture I work nearby and came into town in my office so I bought a big cake here for an event and I opened the box in my meeting room to see there are big mold clusters on the strawberries. I called the store to send a replacement since I'm a 3 min walk from the store and guy said he would ask his manager to refund me but I'm then "welcome to buy another one on DoorDash" The pending charge was dropped afterwards and I was not charged for the cake but it was embarrassing enough to have a moldy cake in a big audience and then be refused a replacement
google avatar

Carole S.

Yelp
Dessert on a sunny Saturday. Delicious! Service is self serve. Cafe ambiance. We enjoyed the cake with a coffee outside.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this chain and am glad to have found it in Philly. I stopped in during lunchtime and found plenty of baked good options to choose from. The crab croquette spoke to me and I also got a sweet bun (tapioca and black sesame seeds). The crab croquette was delicious, with a fair amount of crab and bell pepper filling. It was fried, so had noticeable grease at the bottom. The tapioca black sesame description intrigued me as I hadn't had something like that before. It was on the harder side, with some effort to bite into it. It's not very sweet. I'm not sure if I'll try it again, but glad to have tried. It was pretty busy with people dining or working out of it at 1:00 pm. I found a spot and the table turnaround was quick for those dining. The staff was friendly. Hope to be back in the future.

dennis G.

Yelp
We wandered in for Breakfast one morning and returned the next. The baked goods were great, and there is a terrific variety. We also bought a sandwich for our train trip home, and that was also excellent. Most important, the coffee was absolutely first rate.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon with some friends and it was crowded! There were people studying, hanging out with friends, and not one table was available from the time that we got our our food and drinks and had to sit outsie (not their fault, though I wish they did have more seating areas). I got a summer special, their Mango Lemonade Refresher, and it was delicious. Paris Baguette is always decently priced for the quality of food and drink that you're getting. They could definitely make it more expensive if they wanted to, but I sure hope that they don't! Always a great place to take friends for a small bite/pastry and casual drinks. Never disappointed with any of the locations that I've gone to!
google avatar

Lucy L.

Yelp
I love this Paris baguette from chestnut is my most favorite spot. Perfect for those working from home or need a place to study and stuff done. I always caught myself there for hours and getting everything I need done in a productive hour. There's USB and charging outputs so it's quite convent if you find a seat by the wall. There's so many seating theres never an issue fidning a spot to settle. The bread are all so freash and well made and the cake are all so cute and delicious. Its light and not overly sweet so you can eat more of it. Everything in the display always look so delicious and fantastic. Service is very quick and efficient.

Lin H.

Yelp
Spent about $20 here. There are good pastry and sandwiches But I would be hesitant to come back again

Fatima ..

Yelp
I love it here! The food is amazing, I always get an iced matcha my fave and love how they have liquid sugar sitting out for me to use. I usually come here to work it's a calm environment.
google avatar

Felicia D.

Yelp
This is such a cute pastry shop in Philadelphia. I go a few times a year, and I am always excited to stop in here. The workers are all very nice, the cafe is kept very clean - even the tables outside! I am not much of a donut person, but I tried the strawberry mochi donut and was very, very impressed. It was so light and fluffy and not obnoxiously sweet. I have also gotten croissants and the pastry franks, both were absolutely amazing!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Calling Paris Baguette "pretty" is easy. Sure, the actual sentence is "Paris Baguette is pretty awesome", but let's just focus on how the attractive self-service capsules at Paris Baguette lure me in with gorgeous little pretties like mochi donut rings, green tea croissants, and sugar-dusted cream puffs. Of course, when it comes to a patisserie, no one needs to be told by Tolstoy again, "It's not beauty that endears ... it's love that makes us see beauty.", am I right? Come on, Leo, that's admirable and all, but I'm not afraid to Yelp the truth about my love for the knockout dreamy eye-pleasers at this Philadelphia location of Paris Baguette. Ya, it's pretty easy to say Paris Baguette is "pretty" because I truly love getting a warm Matcha Green Tea Latte at Paris Baguette and then passionately doting on a half-dozen or so pastries and sweets like I love them more than my health or diet. Which is actually true.
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
Service is attentive and friendly. The cafe space is functional but pleasant for a coffee and one or more of their tasty offerings. We are repeat customers of the buyers and ham croissant, the quiches, and the cake slices packaged individually in stylish take-away boxes. We keep going back!

Yelp
Except for the prices. I love this place. Nice clean and no fuss. Love buying their cakes.

Yelp
Paris Baguette is a Korean bakery chain that originates from South Korea. They have various breads and pastries that are supposedly baked on a daily basis, all behind a bakery case, in which you obtain a tray lined with parchment paper and tongs, and make your way down to select whichever item you want. They have cakes and individual desserts and sandwiches and salads. Once you're done, just make your way to up to the cashier, where you can also order specialty hot and cold beverages or pay. A group of us came here after having dinner in the area, and I had a couple of their Royal Pudding (in reusable cute mini glass jars), a milk bread, and a cup of chai latte. Not a fan of the pudding, as it was just flavorless and too custard-y for me. I loved the milk bread, as it was soft, and I liked that condense milk-like drizzle to add the glaze-like sweetness. The chai latte was creamy and tasty, and served super hot. This is probably one of the better Paris Baguettes I've been to! Service was friendly. There are plenty of seats, but the surfaces of the tables and the chairs could have been wiped down. The place does get busy, so if you're with a larger group, it could be a bit of a wait to find a spot. +milk bread +chai latte +friendly service +extremely limited city parking

Yelp
Not too long ago, I ordered the Mocha cake for my brother's birthday. Recently, I came back for another cake. The pick-up was prompt (pre-ordered). The Strawberry Soft Cream cake was very light, and the fruits on top and within the cake tasted very fresh. As usual, PB is always a solid place to get cakes.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
Tasty selection of pastries, cakes, and all things baked essentially. Good selection of coffee and tea drinks. Service is self-serve from cases filled with delectable goodies, and pay at the counter where you can then order your drinks. Service was nice and with a smile.
google avatar

Gracie C.

Yelp
Went later in the day and there just wasn't much selection. Staff was really nice though and the pastries we got were still really tasty!

Amanda S.

Yelp
I usually love this place. They make great coffee and have a wide variety of tasty treats. Today I am very disappointed in what I received. I picked out a bbq chicken flat bread and took it the the counter to he heated up. The lady put it in a bag and then in the oven. I am attaching a photo for the aftermath. If I didn't have to be at work I would have went back and asked for a refund. There has to be a better way to heat this time up and not completely melt it into a bag.

Yelp
My work has a weekly breakfast club, and whenever it's my turn to bring, I like to think outside the bagel a bit. As soon as I knew Paris Baguette was open, I knew I had to go. Paris Baguette may look like a French Bakery from the outside, but it's actually a Korean chain. This is the second location in Philly (other is in Chinatown). The pastries aren't as cheap as the Chinese bakeries but they're cheaper than getting bagels and cream cheese, and way more interesting. Most of the items look like what you'd get at a regular bakery- croissants, pain au chocolat, raisin pastries, but then you see little hints that this isn't a regular French bakery, like a pastry with a hot dog or a whole hashbrown in it, or tapioca balls. My only complaint is that there isn't MORE Korean pastries. I was at H Mart this weekend and there were so many more red bean and other interesting flavors. They also have ADORABLE cakes- think, cute bears, etc. They also have a selection of roll cakes in a bunch of flavors and coffee of course. I spent about $47 for pastries for about 12 people and everyone loved it. The hot dog croissant and hashbrown pastry were a big hit and the mini croissants and tiny raisin pastries were great to share too.
