Where to Eat and Drink on Campus at Portland State University | Eater Portland

"On Sixth Avenue, The Best Baguette is my go-to for an almost-foot-long banh mi; I start with the Best Baguette Special (pate, ham, pork roll, head cheese) to get the sweet and crunchy pickled carrots and daikon balancing the rich meats." - Alayna Becker

Lots of pastry options and cute cakes, even at the end of the day. I had a really good blueberry custard filled thing that was sweet and flakey and delicious. The employees were also very friendly and thought to ask about our allergies when we asked for a tart that ended up having an almond cream, so we were very appreciative because we hadn't been thinking about that at all. Very warm atmosphere, it would be a nice place to sit and work over coffee and a pastry.

Sandhya P.

Google
Plenty of pastry, bread options. Very colorful. Only 4 stars as the flavors did not match the authentic taste especially for Tiramisu (that mascarpone and coffee flavor was missing). The mango coconut cake very tasty but could feel the artificially flavor(essence) lingering later.

Google
A great place to get some pastries. I love their ambience and display of food. I think this was one of the biggest Paris baguette I’ve been to and they had plenty of variety of pastries like Dubai chocolate pastry and mochi donuts. We went to get a cake for my cousin and we got pistachio strawberry cake.

Pradip A.

Google
Order : Red bean sugar donut, Chocolate croissant and lavender macha frappe. Red bean filling was dense and every bite nom nom. Chocolate croissant was flaky and rich. Macha got too much frozen ice, nevertheless, really good. PS: Ambiance mellow and place too clean.

I ordered a few items from this bakery for a birthday celebration: a chocolate hazelnut cake with Nutella, a cappuccino cake, and a croissant donut with Nutella. Overall, the taste was alright, but I wasn’t really blown away. The donut was a bit disappointing—it was served cold and lacked that rich Nutella flavor you’d expect, especially since it’s named after it. If you're going to call something a "Nutella" donut, it shouldn't feel like you're skimping on the main ingredient. As for the cakes, they were decent. I preferred the chocolate hazelnut one over the cappuccino. The frosting on the cappuccino cake tasted off the next day—I actually had to scrape it off. The chocolate cake was better, but again, the Nutella flavor just didn’t come through strongly, which made me wonder if it was barely there. Not terrible, but not something I’d rush back for.

Always delicious and always fresh! Great quality, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. I love this place — always happy to come back

Google
Nice place for afternoon tea time. Plenty choices of pastry. Quick & friendly service. You'll get your pastries warmed up if you dine in

Google
So many varieties. We tried some of them. The blueberry cream brioche looks nice and tasty but honestly, I didn’t like it much. It’s okay but not great. I thought it was cake but it’s actually buns or bread. Not good. However, I did love the pepperoni pizzetta and hash brown bread. Their cakes look amazing too!! I’ve tried some of them in the past and loved them. Definitely coming back again in the future. 🥰💕

Yelp
My go-to spot for corporate meetings and client treats. The pastries here always hit the mark, if you want your clients to love you, this is the place to pick up from. I also had an issue where I needed a receipt for an expense report and couldn't find it. Crystal went above and beyond, took the time to track down my order, and pulled the receipt for me. World-class service. Consistent, reliable, and a strong value-add when I'm hosting or dropping off treats.

Yelp
I'll start with the bad: my girlfriend found a fruit fly in her pastry (the bagged one in the picture). At first I thought it was a chia seed, but then I remembered - chia seeds don't have wings lol. The rest of the food was okay, though a bit lukewarm. If it had been warmer, it would've been excellent. Now for the good: when I showed the employee the pastry, he was just as surprised as I was. He immediately let me grab a replacement and even refunded us, which I didn't expect, since it obviously wasn't intentional. That gesture really made me feel like he valued my experience and turned the situation around. The location itself was also clean, which I appreciated. Overall, a mix of ups and downs, but the customer service stood out in a positive way.

Yelp
Not a dog-friendly place. I first visited this spot a couple of weeks ago and ordered the two mochi donuts from the picture, along with an iced coffee and a matcha latte. The food was great, and I had a really nice experience! I even saw a couple of dogs inside, which made me assume it was a dog-friendly establishment. Based on that visit, I would give it a 5-star review. However, when I stopped by yesterday around 5 PM to grab some pastries to go, I had a very different experience. I had my small puppy in a pouch bag, but the server immediately told me they're not dog-friendly and that I had to leave. Apparently, only service dogs are allowed--though, as we all know, people can put a vest on any dog and call it a service animal. Good to know! I won't be coming back. My dog is only 5 lbs, was securely in a bag, and I wasn't even planning to stay--just to pick up my order. So why did I see other dogs there before, without service vests, and no one said anything?

Yelp
Such great options ! Coffee is always a go to as well! Great customer service and no wait if you come early.

Yelp
I love how they have ready to eat cakes, just waiting to be decorated with a handsome greeting and candles :) As a bday gift, my friends got me the strawberry & creme cake. Very light and delicious. Not too sweet, literally just right! & all the strawberries on the top were perfect in season! Their cakes never fail me! Whether it's a gift for me or someone gifts it. We def devoured it!

Yelp
I have been to many Paris Baguette to buy their cakes. Sometimes cakes can be too dry to too wet. However, when I bought the cake this time, the texture was prefect and the cake was cute. Service was great. The cashier in the front offered me to hand write happy birthday on the cake which was very pleasant and she did a good job. Thanks for the writing on there. Parking was very easy at night time and store was cleaned. Not a lot of customers sitting in the store.

Yelp
This has happened more than enough times now that I've decided to finally speak up about it. We come here almost weekly since the pandemic after church and service would be a mix bag of good and bad. But as of recent its swung bad. The workers here are so slow and seem to always be in a bad mood. Last time we ordered a drink and they completely forgot about it until we reminded them. Everyone after us got served promptly and left immediately with drinks. The most recent experience this past weekend pushed me to not recommend coming back here again. We bought about a dozen plus pastries and simply asked the cashier to give us some small pastry bags so we can enjoy them in the car. She seemed upset by this and stuffed the bags into the box. Unless there was some policy change that I wasn't aware of, this just seemed like very rude and lazy customer service. Why are we spending money at a place that doesn't seem to value us and take us for granted? Overall, would recommend skipping this place unless you're really in a pinch. Service date was 1/19 around 11 AM.

Yelp
Nice clean space that is calming when you enter. Plenty of delicious looking baked goods on offer. Off to a side is the wall shelf with the grab and go sandwiches. A traditional French sandwich is ham and cheese so that is the one I grabbed to go. It was noon but not very crowded so I didn't have to wait long in line. The price is pretty reasonable for a sandwich of the size nowadays. My only complaint is that for a French oriented sandwich, they use a lot of mayonnaise but no piquant French mustard like Dijon. That is something I strongly suggest they change. Less mayonnaise and some really good mustard instead. Otherwise, the ham and cheese sandwiches pretty good. Here is a picture.

Nurettin Selçuk S.

Yelp
Yesterday was my birthday, no one celebrated it and and decided to get a slice of cake to celebrate my birthday alone. The cake was bad, I had one bite and could not eat it. I will never forget my 30th birthday.

J V.

Yelp
Every time I come here there's always flies in the pastry case. It's super gross. The customer service is never really that stellar and the lobby doesn't have good ambience. I'd rather go to Starbucks next door. I generally like Paris Baguette's pastries but when the quality is like this, I will never buy from this store again lol
google avatar

Yelp
Nice pastry but fewer vegetarian options we got a sandwich with mozzarella cheese and tomatoes it was good
google avatar

Ellie S.

Yelp
This place has such delicious pastries. Their bread is so soft & warm. And their cakes are so sweet & creamy. Their Mocha coffee is also a great balance between something sweet & bitter. I also noticed how adorable their cakes were. Definitely some place you should stop by!
google avatar

Brianne D.

Yelp
Firstly, the bakery items are all very beautifully put together. I had very high expectations. The cake itself is very moist and soft, the creams are very fresh as well as the fruit added in. Overall this was lacking a lot of flavor, though I didn't get much coffee flavor at all from the tiramisu cake. And the chocolate cake with strawberries did not give me chocolate flavor at all the most flavor that I received from the cake was from the chocolate shavings and the strawberries themselves. Probably wouldn't have this again.
google avatar

Yelp
the most delicious cakes and croissants I recommend My kids and I love going out for breakfast
google avatar

Celia R.

Yelp
The pastries were ok, most of them seemed to be undercooked. We got a few pastries and spent around $25 to try a bit of everything. But some of the pastries we got were definitely not baked properly or all the way through. Such doughy and sticky texture. It was like chewing on gum. Not sure it was worth it.

Yelp
This cafe is my go-to place for a good quality time with my family or just by myself. They always have freshly baked and delicious pastries. Their coffee (Lavazza) is pretty good and always fresh. Their sandwiches are always fresh and very tasty! This particular cafe is the cleanest among all other Paris Baguette cafes I've been to in the bay area. The manager is really great! She makes sure to do her best accommodating any requests. She is very pleasant and knows how to make you feel welcome. The internet in the cafe is fast and very reliable. I've had many meetings there. The sunlight shines through the cafe in the evening, and the place is well-lit in the night time if you want to do work or simply chill and relax.
google avatar

Yelp
My kids love the seasonal décor when we come in however, today I picked up a large order for work. I didn't plan a head and of course they a bakery so the mornings were busy so I adjust my time so they could meet my order. I paid ahead for the order and everything worked out good. She had 8 orders in the morning so I'll call a head next time. I picked up my stuff in the afternoon by 1pm or 13:00. I sold most of the pastries for our word fundraiser. Thank you again Paris at the Mercado in Santa Clara.
google avatar

Erin P.

Yelp
Good selection of pastries (much larger variety than other locations in the East/South Bay). The cakes are expensive, but you can also ask for custom designed cakes which is a nice touch I didn't know they had as an option. It's more expensive buying individual cake slices and probably with getting a cake if you want to be economical about it. We had coffee and some pastries. The iced coffee small was the size of a medium. The coffee (warm) was super hot and had to cool off. All pastries were warmed up for us (the savory ones with hot dog and ham and cheese). The mochi donut was a little hard to cut and they could have given us more plastic knives.
google avatar

Nikki V.

Yelp
I really love this cafe however the customer service is horrible, I went into the Santa Clara location at 6:30am to get a sandwich before work and 3 employees where working on a catering order I asked if I can order a sandwich and they said NO they all had to focus on a catering order. I asked can one or the three help me ? They again said no. They had no pastries available because they again said the catering order was so big they will put whatever is out after they are done. They only had two options at this time I end up walking out and going to Starbucks for my drink and food. This was the second time I tried to come into this cafe and the service was horrible! To bad food is good but the employees in the morning don't care to help you or they don't speak English so you can't order.
google avatar

Lena A.

Yelp
I've been to many Paris Baguette's but this one was the cleanest and had the largest variety! I would recommend this location.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in during noon time and no customer in line. The staff was listless and lethargic, gave me the order and turned away
google avatar

Caroline B.

Yelp
I've been coming here for my special occasion cake orders and select bakery items for many years now. Their selection of baked goods are highly recommended. I've always had great customer service until my last visit a few months back. Upon arrival, I showed proof of online purchase to the guy at the cashier. He says "Oh yeah we don't have that" without even checking or blinking an eye. Surely he was joking. Not funny to me after driving over 2 hours for this special occasion cake for my family. He also mentioned that sometimes he drops pastries on the floor in the morning and puts it back for customers to purchase. Not funny dude...

Caroline H.

Yelp
This location is not good. Their fried savory pastries felt soaked in oil, and not the same taste as other Paris Baguette locations. Their trays were dripping wet (I literally poured out water from the tray and the tray paper was mush in a few seconds). All the trays were wet, so I let a staff member know, and he couldn't care less. The tables outside were all very dirty. There is something off about this place. It doesn't seem to have the same freshness or ambition level as eg the Cupertino location, which also offers a greater variety of pastries. Wouldn't come back here.
google avatar

Linh L.

Yelp
Paris Baguette is on my favorite list for getting together with friends for a treat. It's closeby, quieter atmosphere, bright and clean, and has amazing variety of pastries and cakes. I've ordered cakes and tarts for birthdays and even picked out mini slices for special occasions. You will impress your family and friends with anything you buy here. I may even come here to do some work, if their wifi is good.

Phuong D.

Yelp
Disappointing visit today. Got 2 pastries: King Cream Donut and Chocolate Supreme Croissant. Both supposed to be filled with cream/custard but there is little to none in these pastries, as shown in the pix. At $5/piece, I felt cheated...
google avatar

Donna A.

Yelp
Paris Baguette was an amazing experience of fresh baked pastries. The aroma and variety of baking fills your sensory perception. There are so many delectable choices of fragrant loaves of bread and fresh crispy croissants filled with chocolate or fruit. The cafe mocha ordered was a perfect accompaniment
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Got some pastries for the office. They have baskets that prepare the desserts on site. Everything I tried was delicious! Only downside is that everything is so expensive. Now I know that this is a special treat kind of place.

N H.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Horrendous customer service that is dismissive and rude when they make a mistake. I recommend you do not order with them. Instead, order with the Sunnyvale location. Their customer service is wonderful. I plan to be a repeat customer there -- I have since emailed the store per their request below. I expect I will be treated the same and I will continue to instead shop at the Sunnyvale location.
google avatar

Leticia G.

Yelp
Great selection of desserts. Brought home a cake, it was excellent. Not to sweet, a blueberry yogurt cake. A little pricey but worth it.

Yelp
Placed an order with the app. When I arrived there was a slight issue finding my order - it wasn't in the display case or refrigerator. Turns out it was on top of the display case. Which sadly I had a cake that I discovered later was no longer cold and melting. Also unfortunately an item was no longer available when I went to pickup. A note was attached noting I would get a refund. The worker checked to see inside the bag and verified that an item was missing. No refund had been given according to the app. However eventually found that a refund was pending the next day. Perhaps you could use the app if you are going to pick up right away instead of scheduling for later and maybe only in the morning when they have more items available or a manager that could help process a refund right away. I did send a message through the app asking for a refund of the missing item. However no response was given and had to check my payment method to verify a pending refund was issued. So overall app kinda sucks for pre-orders and asking for any help at this point. Service workers were nice environment was clean. Update: The manager called and was able to verify my refund status as well as issues/concerns I had. They were kind and understanding and responsive. Overall I would come again, and use the app and: 1) be wary the time of day I order. (Daylight hours are best) 2) where my items come from when I pick them up, 3)how soon I pickup after placing an order. 4)inspect any order of products that should be refrigerated 5)the staff are kind, understanding, and helpful Changing to 4 star - while there were issues they were somewhat corrected.
google avatar

Olee L.

Yelp
Chocolate cake. Soft and overly sweet. Looks amazing, wish it has more favors and less sweet. Not a fan of this cake. I ordered another ice cream cake at Baskin Robins and it is so pretty and everyone loves it. It is eaten in no time.
google avatar

Yelp
PB always has a wide selection of delicious cakes, baked goods, and premade sandwiches that are readily available for purchase, making it a convenient spot for a quick bite. It's nice that they offer cakes by the slice or as a whole cake, which is perfect for when you want something small or something shareable. Personally, I like their fruit cakes, as they are light and fluffy yet still flavorful. If you're looking to purchase a whole cake, PB has a great range of sizes to choose from with prices ranging from $40 to $50 depending on the size. They also provide a complimentary cake cutter and candles upon request. The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating, and even during busy hours, it's easy to snag a table.

Yelp
Wow Please read this! I've decided to give another try to this bakery. Even though the management never got back to me from the last review. I even gave them my phone number. No one ever called me. I told my friend to get the mango cake for my party on sunday night. Long story short, as we were cutting the cake, we realized there is mold at several places on the cake. (Please see pictures) Since its already super late and i live far way, I went to the the Daly city location the next day and tried to return it, they refused to help me even though its the same owner. So I had to drive another 45 mins to the Sunnyvale location on Tues . This time, they made us wait for over 20 mins, the staff was not helpful, when they finally got hold of the owner , the owner first refused to refund the cake since he claimed its over "48 hours" ! Remember we got the cake on Sunday night, we tried to return in on Monday and failed and then Tues again!. The Sunday party was ruined. There was no dessert for over 12 people. I can't believe their attitude and being so rude and irresponsible :-( So please think twice before you order anything there. Always check the cake before taking out of the bakery.

Yelp
I stopped here because o was craving something sweet and this little spot just happened to be right next to the grocery store I was shopping at that afternoon. I ordered a slice of cake and a pumpkin spice latte and paid about $18 bucks for both, including tax. The cake was super soft, and it was light and refreshing. Although pricey, you could tell the cake was higher quality than something you may at Walmart, for example. But did it knock my socks off? Well, no. I enjoyed it, but feel that for that price I could find something better. I feel very similarly about the latte. It was good, but pricey. And there are waaaaay better coffee shops in the area. The service also took much longer than I expected. It took a good 10 minutes to get my slice of cake and coffee, and there was only 1 person in front of me and 2 people behind the counter. Overall giving the spot 3/5 stars because I enjoyed it, but most likely wouldn't return
google avatar

Maximiliano G.

Yelp
It's a very nice place! I came here an hour before closing on a weekend right before going to the nearby theater. There weren't many pastries left, but there was a nice selection of cake slices and I ended up getting the tiramisu cake. The cake was delicious and I really liked how spacious it was. There were at least 10 tables inside so plenty of room to enjoy a nice treat. I will definitely be coming back here!
google avatar

Andre W.

Yelp
Good. Lots of tasty snacks. Of the two items I've tried, the caprese concoction (see photo) on flaky, doughy bread was my favorite. The hard part would be limiting yourself to just one. Store is very clean, staff are always professional and courteous, and there is plenty of parking.

Natalie A.

Yelp
I love Paris Baguette I wish I wouldn't have to give it a 1 but unfortunately i need to. Every time I come here to this location my kids and I always feel unwelcome and uncomfortable there's just an employee that always has attitude. I went today for a sandwich for my so to take for his lunch when I got there they had day old sandwich's of egg , tuna and chicken. I kindly asked the worker if they can make a ham and cheese sandwich she said NO! I than told her last time I called and you guys were able to do it. With attitude she said not today the lady is busy it wasn't the words she said but how she said it. It's not the first time she gives attitude or has a face EVERY time I go with my kids it's the same thing. If she doesn't like working there and like having great customer service please don't work there and make the customers feel uncomfortable
google avatar

Yelp
Just another standard Paris Baguette but a much smaller location. Good variety, prices are fine, good as usual.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by on a Sunday morning about 10am. Picked up few pastries and coffee for a quick brunch date! No lines, great service with a quick grab and go to pay system. They offer to heat up the pastries if you want, the croissant and pastry was so flakey and airy. 10/10!! I loved the cream inside the croissant and the hardened frosting on top. Perfect amount of sweet that pairs well with a coffee :)
google avatar

Yelp
Of all Paris Baguette locations, this one near AMC Movie Theater at Mercado shopping plaza is my favorite. It never feels overwhelming or crowded here on weekday mornings and afternoons. Excellent customer service staffs. Good vibes and great ambiance. Very clean and organized interior. Plenty of tables and chairs available. Pick up after your own trash and trays. Love all Paris Baguette pastries, cakes, and breads. I always go after the items with the fresh fruits and definitely all croissants. Tried the pizza flatbread too and cashier helped me heat it up a bit while waiting for my hot cup of mocha. Delicious and beautiful. Pricing is similar across all locations. Sometimes, I feel like sweet donuts, while other times, I just want a piece of yummy chiffon cake topped with berries. I like this place because of how many different selections of goodies are freshly baked and laid out on displays. I usually take my time when visiting because it's difficult to choose what I want on a specific day and time. Yes, very clean, safe, and modern upgraded interior. I pay more attention to the walls here than I do at other locations. This one is very peaceful, relaxing & quiet most of the time. It really makes a difference when the staffs are helpful and passionate. This is one of those locations that I absolutely enjoy visiting because I can always take a walk around TJ Maxx and other places down the plaza afterwards. Good feelings all around for sure. Plenty of available parking spots in the lot too. Yummy and beautiful. Selections are wide.

Yelp
This location gave my 4 year old child food poisoning from the chocolate cake piece. The service is poor as well, no greetings to the customer, and the employees look like they don't even enjoy their job.
google avatar

Vineesha D.

Yelp
For the very first time I tried paris baguette and I am already in love with their products. I have tried butter cream and chocolate cream bun. Both are delicious. They are fresh even after 24 hours. The bread was soft and cream is not overly sweetened. Next time I will check their cake slices. I felt they are little overpriced, 5.99 $ for a slice but I will give a try once because they look so tempting!! They also have some bars, sandwiches, whole cakes and some drinks. They have a couple of tables outside to enjoy their sweets. The staff were masks and gloves. Food: 4
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Though I'd come half an hour before the store closed, I was still surprised to find them closing up shop when I arrived, and I was directed to the TJ Maxx next door when I asked about a bathroom as they'd closed theirs for the night for cleaning. I'd chosen this shop specifically because of their late closing time, and I unfortunately cannot recommend them for a late night stop for the above reasons. Otherwise, the shop was small and quaint, the staff were very kind, and the Tiramisu Mascarpone Cheesecake I got was surprisingly large and dense. I could barely finish it even with some help from a friend, so I'd recommend splitting it between at least two people if possible. As the store was closing, we sat outside and chatted. The outdoor seating remained after closing, and was surprisingly busy at first as we took the last table just around closing time. Definitely a fine place to sit and chat after closing.

Yelp
One of the best cakes in the Bay Area are from Paris Baguette. They have a cute indoor sitting, pretty ambiance, wide selection of pastries, cakes and deserts. The baristas at this location are not very friendly or welcoming. We order birthday cakes from here often and they even provide complimentary happy birthday banner made with chocolate or write it with icing. they also provide utensils and candles. Must visit if you find one in your area.

Yelp
This is my third visit yesterday and I am happy to see people eating outside the shop now that we are almost out of Purple tier. Paris Baguette has been one of my go-to pastry and cake place and Mercado has been my go-to "me time" place. So having them together is a perfect combo. This branch has enough space, neat and cozy, and now they have outdoor seating. They have good selection of pastries, cakes, and extra items to choose from. Although I think they reduced the selection because of covid, but they still have enough variety. They also have coffees and drinks. Today I got my favorite Chocolate Cream Puffs and Peach Iced Tea. The cream on the cream puff is light sweet and I think they used dark chocolate on top. It is really good. My last 2 visits were for slices of Chocolate Chiffon Cake to bring home. As to their safety measures, the staff wears mask. The pastries are individually wrapped in bags. There is also an automated hand sanitizer stand by the door, but I think it needed refill when we tried to get some. The place also has enough space to social distance.

Yelp
We came here for a quick sweet treat, and we got exactly what we wanted. Great little bakery! I wish I had one closer to my house.

Yelp
I always order cakes in Paris baguettes. Yogurt blueberry is my favorite. Rainbow cake and cream strawberry cake are very good too.

Yelp
Paris Baguette has never failed to amaze me with their freshness in baked goods. Within the last four months, I've acquired five different cakes for birthdays and random celebrations. I have gotten so many compliments for picking out delicious cakes, but in reality, Paris Baguette deserves all the credits! Their cakes are not overbearingly sweet, and their designs are so simple yet elegant. I almost forgot to mention, top tier quality for decent prices! Every time we stop by the Mercado plaza, my husband always wants to stop by here for pastries. I love that this location has adapted to the pandemic by wrapping each pastries individually. Their matcha smoothie is also very satisfying. Their staff are always friendly and makes sure your goods are handled with care! Y'all have made our lives a little sweeter!

Yelp
I saw there Facebook post pop up and had to try after visiting there website. Lots of pastries to choose from. I purchased thee we chocolate cake the first visit then s blueberry cake the next time . Can't wait to try again when I'm near there location.
