The 38 Best Restaurants in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland, New Zealand) | Eater

"At Paris Butter in Herne Bay, chefs Nick Honeyman and Zennon Wijlens form a tasting menu from New Zealand ingredients and French techniques. Wijlens has largely taken the reins of late, bouncing between harvesting edible flowers at a local urban farm and celebrating young chefs at his Tuesday night “next generation” collaboration dinners. The style of service and atmosphere are classic French fine dining, but Wijlens keeps the food fun and surprising by incorporating unique flavors and ferments, like roasted chicken garum and sourdough-miso butter. For the full experience, saddle up for the menu du chef, a seven-course menu that changes with the season. — HE" - Hillary Eaton

An outstanding dining experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable warm, attentive, and perfectly paced, with every detail handled effortlessly. Each dish was exceptional, showcasing remarkable depth and balance of flavour. Every course felt thoughtful and refined, yet deeply satisfying, with ingredients allowed to truly shine. There was not a single misstep throughout the meal. Paris Butter delivers food at a level that rivals the very best international dining experiences. It is rare to encounter a restaurant that combines such creativity, technical precision, and genuine hospitality so seamlessly. Hopefully, this restaurant is well on its way to receiving New Zealand’s first Michelin star an accolade it truly deserves. I only have 1 minor negative and that is the cost. Premium produce and workmanship aside. It would be difficult to keep returning and together with the high mark up for the wines, which is the norm I know, would put some customers off.

We went to Paris Butter for our anniversary and absolutely loved it. It’s a fine dining experience with either a 6- or 8-course menu - no à la carte - so everything feels very intentional and well thought out. The staff were fantastic, friendly, and explained every dish beautifully. The food was exceptional from start to finish. Each dish had its own personality, with balanced flavours, creative combinations, and flawless presentation. Just when we thought dessert was over, they brought out a surprise anniversary cake - soft, rich, and probably one of the best we’ve ever had - followed by another gorgeous dessert to finish. Everything felt so well paced and special. Paris Butter delivers something truly memorable - refined but relaxed, with real heart behind every detail. Definitely one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in New Zealand.

Such an amazing dinner on my Birthday. The food was just beautiful, perfectly balanced and the umami flavour explodes in your mouth. Really loved their plates, beautiful Pottery plates that are Perfect for each dish. Super friendly and knowledgeable staffs, especially loved how they deliver the story of the food, Wines and cutleries. Thanks for the cute Birthday card and the gift. 100% I will go back.

We are frequent customers since Paris Butter opened, and they never disappoint. Their ambience and service is always top notch. Their latest tasting menu is slightly weaker but still excellent with a mild Asian influence. The salmon in a consommé, wagyu end-cap, and honey-thyme-orange dessert were all stand-outs for us. Booking ahead is a good idea.

So much to say, came here for my partner’s birthday. Had the 6 course meal, exceeded all expectations. Genuinely the best meal I have ever had in my entire life. Somehow with every course it kept topping the last. Found it very hard to pick a favourite! We left very full. Super interesting and unexpected flavour combinations, you can tell the chefs really care about their craft along with innovation and quality. Staff were so incredible, we were taken care of so well! They also asked to take a Polaroid of us with sparklers for Guy Fawkes day, such a sweet gesture. From the bottom of my heart thanks so much for making this such an insanely lovely and interesting dining experience. My partner felt nicely celebrated too. They brought out a dessert, candle and card. I will not shut up about this for a very long time. Be back soon! Highly recommend.

If i could give more than 5 stars I would. We felt so welcomed from the moment we arrived and so cared for. I consider myself a foodie, but I found restaurants that have as many hats quite stuffy and unfriendly. This was the exact opposite. The team was so hospitable. Everyone on the team seemed to be so happy to be there, which as a patron Makes such a difference to the experience. The degustation menu was such a journey and there wasn’t a single item I didn’t love. I loved hearing about how each was conceptualised. If you are looking for the ultimate date night, Place to celebrate or simply want to treat yourself I cannot rave enough about this beautiful establishment. I feel like it’s the perfect place to go for dinner when you and your partner may have run out of things to say to each other. Discussing each course and what you love most is definitely something fun to discuss Kudos to the chef and his team. we can’t wait to return

We absolutely loved the 8 course degustation, A celebration of texture, colour and balance with wine pairings that were daring but perfect. The service was well paced and the narrative for each sample dish was clear, insightful weaving the story of origin and ingredients in a warm and engaging tone. The surprise of the evening was a thoughtfully placed note signed by the staff congratulating us on our 33rd anniversary. We will most certainly be back.

Yelp
These guys blocked me on Instagram and FB, the worst service I've ever had after spending $500 on just wine! No response or anything, they wanted me to DM them. Should be an open forum.

Yelp
Everything about Paris Butter is spot on! Ambience, service and... the food, wow! Perfect balance of 'down to earth' menu items using local high quality ingredients, genuine hospitality with a hint of approachable 'blue jean' sophistication, definitely elevates today's dining experiences. Thank you to the team at Paris Butter, keep doing what yout doing and don't compromise!

Yelp
Had the $65 3 course meal option Superb sour dough bread with the truffle butter signalled a great start Scallops and the steak tartare made up the starters followed by the eye fillet with beef cheek and duck - both outstanding Dessert was the cassia whipped cheese cake and Dulce de Leche creme brûlée Small but quality wine list and attentive staff added to a superb evening

Yelp
We had been to Paris Butter previously for dinner but this time it was the Sunday brunch that attracted us - and the great thing about them is that they take bookings - such a rarity these days more's the pity. After a slightly underwhelming start re water and menus arriving, our party of 4 got down to the serious job of deciding what to have from a menu. It's one of those (rare) menus where I think "I could have any of these dishes"! I had been drawn to the French Farmer's Assiette, with fromage, soft boiled egg, parfait, tete de porc, tomato & feta after having read a review and so that was for me. The others had the Salmon Gravlax, with slow scrambled eggs, mustard creme fraiche and the Salade Niçoise, sashimi tuna, melon, potato, anchovy rouille. We all very much enjoyed our dishes - and they looked very appealing as well. And significantly I'd have been very happy to have either of the other dishes. I did like the idea of a slightly deconstructed Salade Nicoise. Having got their service act together we were impressed by the fact that 4 complimentary glasses of champagne arrived at the table. Now that's how to handle the potential for having grumpy customers - very well done Paris Butter. So top marks to Paris butter for the lovely food and being able to book, and for reading the signals about us not being too happy with the service initially. I do like their take on traditional French cuisine with a modern twist. Would we go back? Absolutely. I've got to try the Salmon Gravlax and the Salade Niçoise.
