"Paris Butter in Auckland is known for its six-course meals and the generosity of its culinary community. Chef Zennon Wijlens was named New Zealand’s 2023/2024 Chef of the Year by Cuisine magazine. The restaurant promotes other local eateries, such as Amisfield, in its takeaway leaflet." - Ashley Day

"At Paris Butter in Herne Bay, chefs Nick Honeyman and Zennon Wijlens form a tasting menu from New Zealand ingredients and French techniques. Wijlens has largely taken the reins of late, bouncing between harvesting edible flowers at a local urban farm and celebrating young chefs at his Tuesday night “next generation” collaboration dinners. The style of service and atmosphere  are classic French fine dining, but Wijlens keeps the food fun and surprising by incorporating unique flavors and ferments, like roasted chicken garum and sourdough-miso butter. For the full experience, saddle up for the menu du chef, a seven-course menu that changes with the season. — HE" - Hillary Eaton, Leisha Jones

By far the best dining experience we ever had! There are truly no words that can describe the amount of professionalism we had from start till finish. Each dish was a mind blowing experience. The staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable on every level.

Really special restaurant in Auckland and surprisingly easy to book. We had the 8 course evolution menu. Many well known and loved kiwi flavours and ingredients combined in a very creative and delicious way. We especially loved the hapuka dish. Giving them 4 stars just because of the mishap with my dessert - found a piece of metal scourer in the dish, and the replacement was missing a component. No compensation until we mentioned it again when paying. We finished with a complimentary bitter dark chocolate mousse that we didn't like and could not eat. Other than this, we were impressed by everything and loved the additional gift of their house made smoked honey and muesli. A must try restaurant in Auckland.

Review from our visit in June 2024 From start to finish, Paris Butter delivered an absolutely brilliant dining experience. Every course of the eight-course tasting menu was masterfully crafted, with incredible balance, flavour, and presentation. The highlights included: - Beetroot venison – rich, earthy, and beautifully prepared. - Scampi with butternut and sour cream – a stunning balance of sweetness and acidity. - Duck with madeira and meringue – a creative and indulgent combination. - Potato velouté with tsuyu – silky, umami-packed perfection. - Fish with fermented herb, pancetta, and turnip – delicate yet deeply flavoured. - Beef with XO and carrot – an incredible savoury depth. - Cucumber with passionfruit & rhubarb with rose – refreshing, vibrant, and the perfect ending. Even the breads and kiwi onion butters were exceptional – every element of the meal was thoughtful and executed flawlessly. Service was impeccable, the pacing was perfect, and the experience as a whole was elevated fine dining at its best. Without question, Paris Butter is a must-visit for any food lover. Easily a 5-star experience. Would return in a heartbeat!

From the moment you walk in to you leave the service is on point. Knowledgeable staff to amazing food made a perfect night. This restaurant is a must if you’re visiting Auckland. The cooking techniques are a different level. I would definitely return.

Absolutely outstanding dining experience from the moment we entered this gorgeous restaurant until we were farewelled with a thoughtful gift of granola, honey and a copy of our menu. The staff were all exceptional and their hospitality made us feel genuinely welcomed and that our experience was important to them. The food was stunning and impossible to fault from the oysters to the (second!) dessert.course. What a special night and one I can’t wait to repeat.

Google
The best special occasion spot in Auckland. Impeccable service and incredible food - amazing attention to detail and little extras that makes fine dining the experience that it should be. Highly recommend!

My husband and I were extremely disappointed. We came to celebrate our 8 year anniversary and ordered 8 courses menus with international alcohol tasting. Starters : Oysters 🦪 with lightly sweet foam on a top, didn’t work for me . Intense brine & brioche- for start ? How you can eat after that. The bad winner is the liver pate on a merengue ( very sweet ) with blue cheese and jelly on top ? Was the menu created by a pregnant woman? The taste didn’t marry at all . Two dishes tuna service and snapper was really good. Other dishes waste of time … For 700$ dinner for 2 ? Not good enough guys. Service: the waiters have French accent, that’s about it . There is no charm or anything they do to make you feel special. Anniversary- they gave for us a little card at the very end . The seats are uncomfortable. There is no candles 🕯️, little flowers ect . Sparkling water and oysters were added to the bill . I will not recommend this place for my friends.

Yelp
These guys blocked me on Instagram and FB, the worst service I've ever had after spending $500 on just wine! No response or anything, they wanted me to DM them. Should be an open forum.

Yelp
Everything about Paris Butter is spot on! Ambience, service and... the food, wow! Perfect balance of 'down to earth' menu items using local high quality ingredients, genuine hospitality with a hint of approachable 'blue jean' sophistication, definitely elevates today's dining experiences. Thank you to the team at Paris Butter, keep doing what yout doing and don't compromise!

Yelp
Had the $65 3 course meal option Superb sour dough bread with the truffle butter signalled a great start Scallops and the steak tartare made up the starters followed by the eye fillet with beef cheek and duck - both outstanding Dessert was the cassia whipped cheese cake and Dulce de Leche creme brûlée Small but quality wine list and attentive staff added to a superb evening

Yelp
We had been to Paris Butter previously for dinner but this time it was the Sunday brunch that attracted us - and the great thing about them is that they take bookings - such a rarity these days more's the pity. After a slightly underwhelming start re water and menus arriving, our party of 4 got down to the serious job of deciding what to have from a menu. It's one of those (rare) menus where I think "I could have any of these dishes"! I had been drawn to the French Farmer's Assiette, with fromage, soft boiled egg, parfait, tete de porc, tomato & feta after having read a review and so that was for me. The others had the Salmon Gravlax, with slow scrambled eggs, mustard creme fraiche and the Salade Niçoise, sashimi tuna, melon, potato, anchovy rouille. We all very much enjoyed our dishes - and they looked very appealing as well. And significantly I'd have been very happy to have either of the other dishes. I did like the idea of a slightly deconstructed Salade Nicoise. Having got their service act together we were impressed by the fact that 4 complimentary glasses of champagne arrived at the table. Now that's how to handle the potential for having grumpy customers - very well done Paris Butter. So top marks to Paris butter for the lovely food and being able to book, and for reading the signals about us not being too happy with the service initially. I do like their take on traditional French cuisine with a modern twist. Would we go back? Absolutely. I've got to try the Salmon Gravlax and the Salade Niçoise.
