16 Best Bars in Toronto | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located in a former art gallery space, this all-day wine bar has giant plate-glass windows that let in light. The interior design features exposed brick, lots of wood, industrial bar stools, and potted plants, creating an atmosphere that's at once relaxed and refined. Pass over the simple mixed drinks for the wines. The list, which tends to favor New World and biodynamic winemakers, offers about 30 options by the glass and 150 bottles ranging from $45 to $350. You can order from the full menu until midnight, at which point the kitchen downshifts to bar snacks. Try the chicken liver mousse tartine—grilled sourdough bread with shaved cremini mushrooms and a drizzle or honey—or the roast half chicken with piri piri and grey salt." - Todd Plummer

Came here for a late evening dinner with friends and had an amazing time. We sat out on the patio, and the vibe was vibrant and full of energy—such a great atmosphere. We had some wine, oysters, and steak, and everything was delicious. The oysters were especially refreshing and super fresh. From the food to the overall experience, everything hit the mark. We’ll definitely be coming back for both the lively vibes and the quality food!

Google
Very nice experience but the prices are pretty high. I think they primarily focus on selling drinks but the food is okay. Presentation is wonderful but I'm not sure it's really worth the price. I guess this place is more about being seen and socializing with friends.

Had a fantastic weekday lunch at Paris Paris with a friend. For the appetizer, I had Ossau Iraty, a firm cheese that’s creamy with a slightly salty flavour. For the main course, I enjoyed the half-roasted chicken with piri piri sauce, a flavourful, slightly spicy marinade, served with a slice of lemon. The chicken was juicy and tender. I also ordered a side of fresh bread and butter, which was a nice complement to the meal. My friend had the tuna Niçoise salad. It was well-balanced, though the runner beans could have been slightly more tender. To pair with our meal, we shared a bottle of Chablis that was crisp, refreshing, and complemented our food beautifully. A special shoutout to Natalie, who recommended the wine and provided friendly, prompt, and attentive service. Overall, a great dining experience with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere—definitely worth a visit!

Google
Amazing wine bar we stumbled upon because another one nearby was too packed. The host was lovely and warm, and gave great recommendations. The vibes were immaculate. They specialize in more natural wine. Would definitely come back!

Google
Everyone please try the maitake mushroom on the dinner menu! I realize there’s no recommendations for it but trust me you will not regret it it’s so freaking goodddddddddddd! The corn polenta is so creamy and rich and I swear this is my favorite corn dish on earth! This is my second time back at Paris Paris and I will be back soon!

If you want a couple pre work spritz’s, a wonderful charcuterie board, all under the sweet summer sun, Paris Paris is the place to be. The lads and I had a more than wonderful service from Hailey that left us feeling like a cute girl. I love it here.

Google
Birthday dinner for the GF was awesome. Service, atmosphere and food were all great. Would reco for dinner or light food + drinks — they had an extensive wine selection but we had few cocktails that were all tasty. Loved the vibe later into the evening — they’ve done an incredible job with the space.

Google
A cute place to grab drinks and small plates. The atmosphere is very moody and great for a girls night out! The martini I ordered was one of the smoothest ones I’ve had. The server was knowledgeable about wines which I appreciated. The host was also very inviting and immediately offered to check our coats.

Yelp
I've walked past their patio a few times and had always wanted to give Pais Paris a try- today was the day, we were in a little after noon and were lucky to get a table under one of the umbrellas- was perfect as there was ample amount of room and shade under the hot sun! Service was super casual and cool, the hostess was lovely enough to bring us water for our dogs without us asking which I always appreciate! We had a couple of mimosas which were perfect- oysters, their breaky plate and shared the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was DELICIOUS- So SO good-the oysters were fresh and perfect for a warm day- my bf enjoyed his egg plate - the bacon was INTENSE... lol thick! We appreciated that they took such great care of us- and our pups!

Yelp
If you've ever dreamed of basking in the glow of mediocre service while nibbling on beef tartare, then Paris Paris on Ossington Ave is your spot! This place is perched right in the heart of Ossington's bustling nightlife strip, which has recently become the go-to place for live music, quirky eateries, and nights you may or may not remember. As you wade through the sea of coolness, you'll stumble upon Paris Paris with its sprawling patio that practically screams, "Come here, but don't expect us to be quick about it." The vibe? Defin Positive! The service? Well, let's just say our server may have been practicing the ancient art of invisibility. After sitting down, we had to perform a few flag-waving maneuvers to remind her we existed. We decided to keep it simple and ordered a beef tartare to share. It was good, but it didn't exactly make us see stars. The Burdock beer, a local Toronto brew, was decent, and my partner sipped on a Rosé with the sophistication of someone trying to forget the hefty price tag. Speaking of which, our little adventure set us back $60 plus tips. We couldn't help but feel the price was as inflated as our hopes when we first sat down. So, if you're in the mood for a positively slow experience with a side of alright beef tartare, give Paris Paris a whirl. Just don't forget to bring your patience and a sense of humour!

Yelp
Super cute ambiance with plants everywhere. However, the food was good but not spectacular considering the sizes and portions. The service was mediocre... we had to call the waitress over a couple of times because she overlooked checking on our table of 2. The tables are also really close together so she had to stand behind my date when talking to our table which was just.. different lol. I would go back here for a drink, but not food considering the price point and sizes. We literally ended up picking up pizza an hour later because we were hungry... after spending over $120 on 3 items to share for dinner.. (and 1 drink each) crazy lol.

Yelp
Long story short: A popular (pricey) spot on Ossington, delicious but an unrealistic price point. Decor and service are lovely. Long story long: I came here for lunch over the weekend. I had the trout rillette, which was great and a delicious mix of flavours, but very light and expensive. My friend had the burger with side salad, which was a good portion size, but again, expensive (which of course, is a regular occurrence for many places in TO). We both had wine by the glass, which was also on the steeper side. The place looks great, lots of greenery and there is plenty of room. Clean. The servers are very kind and great at giving recommendations. I may try dinner here. But I think, along the Ossington strip, you may find a better spot for the same price point that makes more sense.

Yelp
A popular spot for drinks on ossington, we decided to come for the food tonight. The tomato salad was fantastic, it was fresh, salty, sweet. Probably the highlight of the night. The beef tartare was as expected, done well but wish the portion was slightly bigger. The fries were great, very crispy and served with a heap of mayo and ketchup. The chicken was surprisingly crispy while being very moist on the inside. The periperi sauce did have quite a kick to it! Overall, the ambience was nice (albeit quite loud) and the food was decent. We left quite satisfied!

Yelp
Came here to have apps with a friend whom I haven't seen in a while and we made sure to make reservations. We ended up getting the shared plate and bottle of the cab, the shared plate came out pretty quickly which we were happy with but it was missing a few items that the server had to go back for. While we were a party of 2 we felt like we were crammed in between two larger groups and our table kept getting knocked. We asked if we could move somewhere more comfortable but were told they didn't have anything, altho the restaurant was pretty empty. We ended up leaving and going to downtown winery to continue our night as we weren't feeling the vibe.

Yelp
Great food, but super dark ambiance! Getting here with a group of six is the perfect table number in my opinion. Can get to try so many dishes for sharing! This is my second time at Paris Paris so I knew the food and drinks here were good. What I didn't know was how dark the restaurant gets for dinner service (I only came for lunch prior). Not going to lie, it made dining at the restaurant extremely difficult with the low lighting. At many times i had no idea what I as about to munch on. The food! Tomato starter 10/10 - Refreshing assortment of tomatoes. You really can't go wrong with that! Tuna Tataki 10/10 - Waitress made the mistake of convincing out table to get two of this dish because she thought it was not enough to share between the six of us. This dish is more than enough for six people if you're looking for just a one biter as an app! Overall, it was a great dish but we couldn't finish two of them Beef tartar 8/10 - Pretty standard tartar. But again, great for sharing as little bites Burrata 10/10 - Always a must. Can't go wrong with this! Prosciutto 10/10 - Fresh and thinly sliced. Great for sharing and had the perfect amount of fat and salt to it. Lobster pasta 10/10 - This was the best dish of the night! A must get! A bit on the pricey side with a small portion but the flavours are there, lobsters pieces are plenty and was oh so creamy! Get this! Mushroom dish 8/10 - Great blend of flavours with a parsnip puree at the bottom Frites 10/10 - Nice and crispy. Always a must get for sharing at the table. Chicken dish 7/10 - Standard. Grilled cabbage 9/10 - Loved the pinenuts on this dish and loved the yogurt dallob in the middle. Made the dish super creamy and yet smokey from the grill marks. Pork Chop 7/10 - I think this is something I would skip. Great sauce that came with it though! Just not a huge fan of pork chops in general. Overall, loved the food. Hated the darkness of the restaurant! Can we turn up the lights a tad bit please? (haha!)

Yelp
I was visiting my cousins and we stopped by this place for some small bites. The atmosphere was great we sat indoor but access to the outdoor area. The food were very snacky and a bit overpriced. However vibes were great. Cool hangout spot but not so much for the food.
google avatar

Will T.

Yelp
Good snacky food on a huge patio. Service was not terrible but not good, actually less than standard. Hip vibes but NOT restaurant level. One plus for gigantic shrimp appetizer. Pricey experience leaving me wanting more.
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
A beautiful place to check out for food and/or drinks on a night out with friends. There's an expansive and nice outdoor patio, but the interior decor is also amazing, very classy and gives off Wes Anderson film vibes. Service is friendly and attentive. We came here for drinks, and they have a large variety of beers, wines, and cocktails available. All of the drinks we had tasted great and were decently priced. All in all a great experience.

Yelp
cant comment on food or service as we were victims of agism. we came for late night drinkssix of us. there were several available tables and the hostess said she would see what was available. in the meantime my husband commented that it is such a prettu place and maybe we would have my 70th bday there...its a decade away...and the hostess laughed and a few minutes later after the two staff conferred we were told that they could not accommodate us. just a note to young staff...middle age people enjoy going out, eating good food and drinking good alcohol. we also know how to tip...our business was appreciated down the street where we enjoyed outstanding service. one star because i camt leave it blank and the place did look lovely

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner this week at Paris Paris, and felt compelled to provide a positive review as the most recent ones were not indicative of our experience. The ambiance was great. The service was fantastic. The food was delicious. The price point was fair. We love French cuisine and this is a great spot in a trendy area.

Yelp
Big spacious space. Cocktails were very average..they are known for their wine. Food wise the lobster pasta was good but very overpriced at 53. Honestly dont see myself coming back here. Service was just ok.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for Valentine's Day lunch, was hoping for some pasta but this was my first time here and didn't realize that they don't serve pasta until 5pm. No problem I asked for the waitress' recommendations and ordered everything she said: - Roasted half chicken $22 - Trout Rillette $15 - Fries $11 The atmosphere was wonderful with the sunlight shining through the roof. The service was normal but nothing extraordinary. The food was good but I probably wouldn't come here again. The chicken with peri peri sauce was definitely the best one out of all of the items. Would wanna come back to try their drinks and pasta, wouldn't recommend the lunch, we got Mac& cheese around the corner after.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now. First off, the atmosphere is really nice here! Great spot for date night or just an out night with friends. Cheese and Charcuterie Board with bread - Can't go wrong with this!! - That block of white cheese, not too sure the name of it, but it was so amazing!! - bread was nice and warm! Paris Paris Fries - Nice and hot and crispy, served with Ketchup and Mayo Lobster Spaghetti - Lobster was really fresh and sweet. - The pasta was nice and chewy and tasted hand pulled. - The flavour of the pasta was very zesty, I felt like it was too lemony for my taste. Dry Aged NY Striploin Steak - Steak was good, but it was a bit fatty. Tasted pretty regular to me, not too amazing - Onion rings! Wow they were big, but they tasted really crispy and good. It came with ketchup and this chimichurri sauce Roasted Half Chicken - I think this was the star of the show, it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! It's in a piri piri sauce, a bit spicy but yummy!

Yelp
We were on Saturday evening without reservations and got the tables immediately. I should have read the reviews before coming there but when with hype. I had a poor experience and do not recommend this spot. The drinks were average and service was non-existent.

Yelp
Guys I might have found the best lobster pasta in the city. Paris Paris has been on my list FOREVER, I think it started as a small divey spot but has since expanded to a massive eatery (looks like it spans 2 restaurants) which it's surprising it's always packed. We tried: Hamachi Crudo: This literally tasted like spicy mala hotpot soup base. The fish was topped with fried onions, sichuan peppercorns and chilli oil(?). I felt the flavors were all too overpowering and didn't complement the fish, I prefer the flavours to be lighter East Coast Oysters: These were plump and fresh and the simple mixture of lemon juice, minionette and valentina hot sauce was delish Beef Tartare: This was good but average, it didn't blow me away Lobster Pasta: Seriously BOMB, even though its a simple dish, they made it very well. The pasta noodles were perfectly al dente. The sauce was light and creamy but also fragrant from the chives. The lobster was cooked perfectly, firm yet tender. I was surprised they didn't skimp out on the lobster either. Basque Cheesecake: My first time having basque cheesecake and I was not a fan of the texture. It seemed a bit chalky and not as creamy as a regular cheesecake. I was impressed with their vodka martinis, because some places get the ratio of vermouth:olive brine:vodka wrong and this was on point! I didn't get to try any of their extensive wine list this time but would definitely be back to pair a glass of white with that pasta and perhaps some other appies. The lobster pasta was really the saving grace of this place (100% recommend)

Yelp
We ate here last night, oysters, cauliflower, chicken, carrots, all recommended by waitress. Incredible!!
google avatar

Arshile K.

Yelp
After the massive success of their initial space, Paris Paris has taken over a large chunk of the Ossington Strip for themselves. The combination outdoor/indoor space is ideal for warm, sunny summer days, where the top to bottom sliding doors create a dynamic relationship between the two areas that feels completely fluid. The menu hasn't changed much - yet - but I imagine with significantly more room to play, there'll be tons of opportunity to try new things. The food is delicious as always. We got the chicken and cheese board. I don't know what magic they cast on that chicken (whatever it is involves piri piri), but the crispy skin and juicy meat in unbeatable. Excited to see what this place becomes.
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
I was excited to try this restaurant but unfortunately it was a big let down. Service was okay - food came pretty quickly and they messed up our bill at the end, but not a huge deal. Here's what we ordered: Beef tartare - fine, not terrible but something felt a little off? Mixed charcuterie - delicious, no complaints. Tuna tataki - the excessive use of horseradish was so pungent and overbearing it was impossible to taste anything else. We had a lot of difficulty finishing this one. Argentinian shrimp - very small portion, just 4 shrimp on a small plate. Tasty though! Lobster pasta - definitely not one of the better seafood pastas I have, but not bad. However, the portion was absolutely tiny - definitely not large enough to pass for an entree. The decor and vibes are nice, so I'd probably only consider coming back for drinks. Overall I found this restaurant to be super overpriced for very mediocre food. Given how many great restaurants there are in Ossington, this is a hard pass from me.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I finally got to try out Paris Paris as It was very hard to get reservations and on top of that a 60$ cancellation fee if you don't cancel 2 days before is insane. For somewhere so popular and hard to get into I had high expectations. The prices were very high per dish but I also expected for the food to match it. However it was a disappointment. The mixed "charcuterie" was just cured meat you could easily get from a grocery store. When someone says charcuterie you would expect cheese and bread to come along with it but it did not. How sad does this poorly plated cured meat dish look? The beef tartar was good but i have had better elsewhere. The lobster spaghetti was very good but honestly nothing stood out to me considering those prices. I rather spend the money elsewhere.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
The space is well-decorated and there is always upbeat music playing. The food is good, but definitely not worth the price (a regular occurrence in Toronto). Service was okay, similar to Aritzia (I'll let you decide what that means). Overall, Paris Paris is well-suited for a younger crowd looking to grab drinks. Skip the food, order some light bar snacks instead.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Great food and an amazing atmosphere located in a neat area on Ossington. It was a little on the pricy side for the portion sizes but that was expected. Great place to go out with friends for a drink and some food.
google avatar

Ori M.

Yelp
One of the best places to eat and drink on the Ossington Strip! Paris Paris just recently opened up at their new location on Ossington and it's really tasty. Their interior design, customer service and overall vibe is on point! Each plate, cup, piece of art is carefully thought of! If you're looking to drink wine and enjoy tasty food this is the place for you. We ordered the meat charcuterie board with fresh burrata, bread, French fries and their hamachi crudo. The charcuterie and burrata were so deliciously paired together, but what really was amazing was their HAMACHI CRUDO (hamachi carpaccio). Paris Paris is the perfect place for a date or visiting with friends!

Yelp
Had a reservation on a busy Saturday evening. Let's get straight to it: Pro: - Tapas style sharing between hubby and I worked out great, beef tartare, jumbo shrimps (did not disappoint!), and dozen Malbec oysters (super fresh). The chenin blanc pairs superbly with seafood - Thoughtfully designed interior space - Great spot for people watching (come with your standard issued black vegan leather jacket, white washed jeans, and white sneakers; Aperol Spritz separately) Could go either way: - Super fun, LOUD vibe - Very efficient and capable wait staff (albeit busy) - Ultimate hip factor, comes in handy if you've folks to impress? Con: - The hostess is clueless and comes with a 'tude, brought us the wrong menu and just couldn't care less abt her job. - Lobster pasta: delicately poached lobster and the cream sauce is delightfully airy. But based on photographic evidence (thanks Yelpers!) we got 1/3 less lobster and so not worth the $50 price tag. 4 dishes + 3 glasses wine tally to about $200 (before tip)

Yelp
Stopped in for a business luncheon while in the area. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating with a variety of table sizes. The indoor portion of the restaurant can be opened up to the outside which makes for a nice atmosphere on a sunny day. Staff were quite knowledgeable on the food menu and spirits selections. They have a huge wine and spirits menu but their food choices are limited. However, I would say what they make is prepared very well and shouldn't disappoint. We had complimentary bread to start with our drinks, oysters for an appetizer, and the Ruben sandwich for our main. Finished off with a nice digestive. All in all quite an enjoyable experience.

Frank G.

Yelp
everything was great but the music did not match the room, seemed very uninspired & out of touch. Trash tunes frfr.
google avatar

Sophia K.

Yelp
Paris Paris had stylish decor but the prices were too high for the food portions. Also a decent glass of wine is approx. $20 - server was nice but very busy. Also our table was seated at a communal table next to a type of generator/storage with bright lights and a rumbling sound - not the best for my bf's birthday.
google avatar

Tony R.

Yelp
Whenever I have friends or family visiting this is my go to, I always know what to expect. Great service, selection of wines, food pairings and just sharing foods in general. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and I'm a big fan of the space, it's ambiance and vibe. Simplicity with lots of plants where can you go wrong!
google avatar

Elena N.

Yelp
not worth the hype. If you're going for a glass of wine, it's a cute spot. but if you're looking for cocktails or food, save your money or spend it elsewhere. The food was really average and unoriginal. I mean the Costco roast chicken was better than their roast chicken... and all the cocktails are pre mixed, not freshly made... service was good though, so like I said if you're going for wine only, it's a good spot. They have a great wine menu.
google avatar

Lisa O.

Yelp
Enjoyed the burrata heir loom tomato's here. Super fresh and delish. We also tried the hamachi and it was average. Definitely love the vibe here and interior.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
Very average. We ordered 6 dishes for 3 people. The corn croquettes and half chicken were good. I would skip the rest.
google avatar

Omar A.

Yelp
Been wanting to eat here for a few years now and finally had the chance to order a large meal for takeout last night. The food was phenomenal. The half roasted chicken was FULL of flavour and not dry in the slightest. It was cooked to perfection with the most flavourful piri piri sauce. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was incredible too. Most jumbo shrimp I've ever had in my life, literally! Looking forward to the next chance to eat there and maybe in person next time!

Alex F.

Yelp
Super yummy and a very cool atmosphere. Very trendy and the staff were all really fashionable! Lots of big tables for groups.

Eleanor J.

Yelp
It was with great excitement that I was able to secure reservations for Paris Paris to celebrate a friend's birthday and my first indoor dining experience in ages! Sadly, the only good thing about my actual experience was that we were able to make reservations. From the wait at the door as the hostess let people cut us in line to finally getting our bill so we could escape, the evening was a let down. First of all, we were sat a communal table with two of the people who had cut us in line. What fun! The table had stools with no backs, and no hooks on the table for our coats and bags. Some of our bags and coats got slung over the patio door handle, the others went on the ground. Lovely. Our wait to order drinks was so long that we decided to hedge our bets and order food right away. We decided to split the cheese board. Cheese board - ha! It looked like someone had dumped a few slices of cheese from a lunchable and thrown a cracker over top. The plate beat our drinks to the table and the server didn't take the time to tell us which cheese was what. Never have I cut cheese into such tiny portions before to ensure we were all able to sample. There was a questionable chutney served with the cheese - smelled like Branstein pickle - but again, we weren't told! Mystery dip! Accompanying the cheese was a giant cracker thrown over half the plate. I would have appreciated our server warning us that the plate was tiny when we suggested we share. Finally one of our drinks came, where it sat on the table for another 10 minutes, getting nice and warm, as we waited for the other 3 drinks to arrive. We hailed our server and got our bill as quickly as we could and tried to revive the birthday celebrations elsewhere. Very disappointing evening to remember. Will not be going back.

Peter S.

Yelp
Unfortunately, my party of 4's visit to Paris, Paris was so poor, I felt necessary to actually write this review. Our first guest arrived before us and waited 25min to even receive server attention to request a drink. None of our food orders came out at the same time. Appetizers came out 10 min apart and the sides to our entrees came out 20 min before the entrees, thus they were cold when our first entrees arrived. Our entrees also all came out totally staggered times too, so none of us actually dined together. We literally watched each person eat individually. The final issue was the restaurant didn't have a single beer available that was listed on the menu. The servers were friendly enough which was the only saving grace for this very bad evening dining out. Not sure if this is a new restaurant with growing pains but we were shocked our experience was continually so poor.

Paddy D.

Yelp
Beautiful day. OK food and good wine selection but very spotty service. Started well but ended poorly. No idea who was in charge. Asked three people and each said "I will tell your server". Message never got through and no one ever came. So after 20 minutes we left.

Hardsell R.

Yelp
Couldn't get past the snotty hostess and unwelcoming check-in experience. Imagine 3 or 4 staff members chatting casually at the hostess station while guests are left barely acknowledged. Hardly any greeting, virtually zero eye contact. We waiting long enough to hear and witness the incompetence and then opted out and made our getaway before we had our hopes for a lovely evening dashed by this crew of dilettantes.
