Park & Ocean

So, this is kind of a follow up to my review of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. While the park has many things to explore, the kayak, canoe, and paddle board rentals are handled by Park and Ocean. Located a short walk from the first parking lot, Park and Ocean provides some much needed shade and refreshments during the South Florida summer. I had never been here before, so I arrived a little early to check the place out and reserve kayaks for my friends and I. The young lady at the desk was extremely helpful in explaining all the possible options, safety measures, and pricing. She let me know how to get down to the launch area and that there would be lockers for the things we didn't want to get wet, which turned out to be extremely helpful. We went down to the launch and were saddled with great kayaks. The lake is pretty much a straight line, so it's very good for practicing, beginners, and nice scenery. There is a little secret passage which can provide needed shade as well. We planned to have lunch there, but by the time we got done and completely rained on, the restaurant wasn't open yet. So, we used the walkway to access the beach until it was time. The restaurant boasts great local beer on tap and delicious cocktails, as well as elevated bar food and seafood options. I really enjoyed the conch fritters, which were well seasoned and flavorful. Be careful if you don't like spicy food. The young lady who was so helpful in the morning with kayak bookings also told us that the park puts on a reptile exhibition at one, so we were able to take the kids to check out. I will be back soon to try out their other menu items and drinks, and practice with my new paddle board. Hope to see you there

This place is awesome! We love it, the food is very good but the ambiance is everything. Live music every weekend by local artists, draft beer, cocktails, yummy burgers, fries and nachos, everyone having fun a few steps from the beach and on one of the nicest parks in South Florida. What else can you ask for? Great for family time, to hang out with friends or even a date.

At first I was expecting some zoo food stuff. But then I saw a 10 beer brewery list, and cocktail bar. Kayak rental for the fresh water lake. A a one-man good band. Large outside seating is under a grove of trees and very shady. Burger was surprisingly really good, and the fries were strangely good (don’t change). They do have their quirks. You order at one place, and pick up food in another. Very dog friendly. Small bar top with around 10 seats.

Park and Ocean is one of my fav spots in Lauderdale. Tucked away between A1A and Birch Park, it's a hidden gem and the perfect place to enjoy some drinks and food with a spacious outdoor area for sitting and enjoying the beach view. Even in the summertime, there's always a nice breeze to keep you cool. Full bar with great selection of craft beer and the food is all good- I especially like the fish tacos, BBQ Brisket loaded fries, and the burgers. Located on Birch State Park property, the bar/restaurant is unique in that you can access it from the beach or from the State Park side. The service is always great and on weekends we enjoy listening to the live music while we eat.

Awesome laidback atmosphere among the trees facing the ocean (with live music over the weekends). Lots of shade, picnic tables, bicycle parking and a truly beach feeling. The kind of place I would expect ocean front (much nicer than fancy spots in my opinion). It is where I usually stop for a few minutes over the weekends after running or cycling to recharging and absorbing some “good mood” having a nice cold draft beer.

Outdoor space located inside Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Pay a small fee to enter the park, safe parking lot. Open air food and drinks with plenty of spaced bench seating. COVID safe dividers, face masks enforced in pass through. Order food contact free at register, pick up at side counter. Great rental options for kayak, canoeing or biking. Beach chair and umbrella rentals with easy beach access. 2 mile trail with zen garden and lots of nature, turtles and iguanas. Affordable little gift shop with sunblock and beach toys. Great outdoor activities for locals and tourists.

Really lovely beer garden. The back area has picnic benches under a tree canopy with a view of the ocean. Wow! I wish the place would be open longer during the week. (2022 review) 2023 Update: The place is still great. I'll add a more recent menu (prices seem to only have changed a little) and more pictures. This time we noticed that the service can be very very slow. You have to order at the bar and pick the food up by yourself. I guess they might be having staffing challenges.

Such an amazing spot inside a State Park. Met my boyfriend here for lunch one day! No wonder why he comes here to work, it's so peaceful. Great food and beer too. Dog friendly.
