Best Burgers in the East Bay | Eater SF

"Park Burger serves a variety of beef burgers topped with ingredients like bacon, cheddar, fried shallots, and sweet chile aioli. The lamb burger is an excellent choice, covered with in-house tzatziki sauce and arugula. Vegetarians can get in on the action with black bean patties and Impossible patties." - Dianne de Guzman

Came here spur of the moment after a hike in the hills & we were so glad we did! The beer was cold & delicious. The burgers made to perfection & mouth watering! The small size portion of chili cheese fries was super yummy! Good quality grass fed beef burgers & you can totally tell. Quality I’m happy paying a higher price for! Will definitely come back here!

Google
No fuss type of place. Good burgers and sides. Straight to the point kind of menu. Portions are very generous. Especially the salads and sides almost seem like they should be full plates.

Google
Fries: Impressively crispy for how thick cut they are and was a wonderful surprise. Slightly under salted for my taste but easy to add more, not so much the other way around Bun: Good consistency and no sogginess. I prefer my buns to be a little more toasted than a "1" on the toaster setting equivalent Toppings: The fired scallions had a light flavor and batter and weren't too oily, lettuce was fresh and a nice sized pickle slice. The downside here and partly why knocked a star off the burger is the tomato while perfect in thickness, was OVERLY soft and mealy. Completely threw off every bite. Meat: The other part why I took a star off the order, half the burger was perfectly cooked and just juicy while the other half was overcooked and completely dry. Would have preferred consistency and had it either way. The burger was also 25% ish short of the bun so the last couple bites would've been only bread if I had ate it. Classic burger, hard to go wrong but I expected a little more refinement for 20 dollars.

Google
Had their version of a mushroom and swiss burger, and honestly, it was one of the best burgers I've ever had! Great tasting meat and bun. My friends and I also shared their sampler of onion rings, sweet potato fries, and regular fries, which were also delicious.

2nd time here always good will be back

Google
Probably the worst burger I have ever eaten in my life, three bites in and the truth is.... every other burger place tastes better than this joint.

Paul Park

Google
Probably the best new standard French fries I’ve had in quite some time! The lunch special is a great weekday value

Google
Delicious burgers and exceptional service. Natalie S. took great care of us, thank you!

Yelp
Park Burger offers a great burger, especially with their vegan burger, which stands out as one of the best I've ever tasted. The burger's texture and flavor are so convincing that it's hard to distinguish it from a traditional beef burger. With a welcoming atmosphere, Park Burger is a must-visit for both vegans and non-vegans alike.

Yelp
Locally owned business with good burgers and other good sandwiches. All their ground beef is grass fed. They have been a part of the neighborhood for a long time and despite a break-in within the last year, are friendly. Families are quite welcome here too.
google avatar

Carolyn F.

Yelp
We enjoyed grass-fed beef burgers, crispy fries, large onion rings. The kid's meal of two beef sliders, a preferred side and cup of milk is perfect for a toddler who loves hamburgers. I enjoyed a turkey burger without cheese. The other adult enjoyed a salad and a chocolate milk shake. Definitely a good find in Oakland for a casual lunch.

Yelp
We were in recently and were a little disappointed with the food. The overall burger was just average, and for the price, we'd hoped it would be better. The fries were over cooked, and the large milkshake was on the small side for the price. Now, the burger buns were very good, and we enjoyed them.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot to have burgers & beers and watch a game. My daughter loves the shakes and we always share a sampler (fries, sweet potato fries, & onion rings).

Yelp
We tried Park Burger for the first time last week and have ordered it three times since. This is one of the best burgers in Oakland and the fried shallots are a must on your burger. The fries and onion rings are awesome, get the garlic on them!!! Great beer selections and the shakes are top notch. The Duke and the Glenview are my favorites so far, but I plan to try more. They have no delivery fee on DoorDash, give this place a shot, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Just moved into the neighborhood, and Park Burger is ON POINT. Juicy fresh burger, amazing onion rings and excellent friendly staff looking out. This will definitely be one of my regular spots in Glenview.

Yelp
Park burgers is always a must when visiting Oakland. Great attention to quality in everything from the bread and meat to the salads. Nice selection of local craft beers and yummy milk shakes. They also have great kid menu and options.

Yelp
Always love these burgers! Great friendly service in store too. Tasty fries and big selection on the menu. They also have good local craft beers on draft and in cans.

Yelp
Wow, it had been a while since I had been here, and on the way there I was extolling the virtues of the place. Boy, was I embarrassed. We got our food to go and everything seemed straight forward - 3 cheeseburgers and a large fries, to go. The wait was short, and the food packaged well. When we got home to eat though, I was disappointed. The burgers had no condiments on them, the lettuce was from the base of the head, and there were no onions. The burgers were pretty tasteless and disappointing. Not juicy or flavorful, just bland patties. The fries were okay, but what should have been the star of the show, the burger, fell flat. When I got home, I called them to see if leaving off the condiments was standard practice or a mistake. I was asked if I could hold for a moment, and said yes. As I write this, no one has come back to the phone and it has been over twenty minutes now. I am tempted to see how long it will be before someone picks up the phone (I hung up at 30 minutes). I did call back again, and apparently it was an error to not add some garlic aioli to the buns, which would have helped, and I was informed that you have to request onions if you want them (and it would have been helpful for the server to inquire "would you like onions on these?" which didn't happen). For $12 bucks a burger, you can do better elsewhere. Sorry, but even though I love supporting neighborhood restaurants, I won't be back.

Yelp
I was so excited to find a place in my neighborhood to get burgers made with grass fed local beef. But it was the saddest burger ever. Thin, dry and tasteless on a cheap bun. The fries tasted like old oil. Gross and overpriced. Staff was nice, that's the only positive.

Andrew G.

Yelp
Convenient, reasonable pricing, great experience calling ahead for takeout and meal being nicely packaged for the walk home.

Brooke F.

Yelp
Burgers are decent size. Wish they came with some kind of sauce (mayo, ketchup, house made sauce etc) Buns are my favorite part. Super soft and they even smell good. My biggest gripe is ordering delivery...the juice sits at the bottom of the container and the bottom bun ends up soggy. Wish they switched to a different container.

Yelp
Man this isn't the same fire Park Burger that I grew up with in the Town. I hadn't been here in a little over a year and it definitely wasn't the same. When I called over the phone to place an order ahead of time, the woman taking my order wouldn't stop laughing and giggling. She kept apologizing and then continued to giggle throughout the process. I had a feeling she was finna mess my order up so I asked her to start over and repeated my order again. I pull up, receive my bag and when I checked, they butchered my "burger". I put it in quotes because I don't know wtf it was. I asked for no onions and received no bun, no cheese, and no tomato. They had it wrapped in lettuce ?? I am NOT Bugs Bunny. Fuck I look like eating that bruh The woman was nice i'm sure, but take a break from tickling each other and focus on what customers are saying over the phone. I made her start over twice so she wouldn't mess it up and she still did it. Smh i love park for the nostalgia and the memories, but the shit fell off. Probably won't be back.

Yelp
A+ service and extra points for the burger patties and condiments. Removed a star because my gluten free bun fell apart and into tons of little pieces.

Yelp
WHEN: Sunday @5pm ***During Covid-19**** It was easy placing an order over the phone with them. Gotta start with the basics since it's my first time. Otherwise the menu looks exciting with all the variety of burger! Here's what I ordered: CLASSIC BURGER w/CHEESE - $10 All served with lettuce, tomatoes & house made garlic infused aioli. Onions/house made pickled red onions available upon request. Patties are 1/3rd of a pound, cooked medium, unless requested otherwise. I can see what people mean about the soggy buns cuz of how juicy the beef patty is. I don't mind it so much. This burger is pretty darn tasty with everything I like! SAMPLER - $11 French fries + sweet potato fries + onion rings. I don't like Sweet Potatoes Fries so when I told them I didn't want that it looks like they just replaced it with more French fries. Both the French fries and onion rings were pretty good! Definitely fresh and LOTS of it! Good one to share! I really enjoyed Park Burger and look forward to ordering again!

Yelp
Damn you Park Burger, damn you. I was so ready to love you, but you couldn't love me back. I had you bookmarked forever. Your menu read like a dream, so many things that sounded good to me. Your space proudly flaunts Oakland which I find so adorable. Your food when it arrived so looked the part...I was drooling as I was hastily trying to snap a pic. BUT all that ended as soon as I started to put things into my mouth. I didn't even finish my meal, and I'm telling ya now, it takes a lot for me to do that. First, when I got my self serve soda cup, there were no ice available from their machine. Upon ordering no one at the register informed me of that, they literally let me buy an iceless warm soda. I was barely gonna drink a glass anyways, so I endured the warm soda. I won't be doing that again. Drury Burger ($12/2*) So this is their Mushroom n' Swiss Burger. I added extra fried shallots for an extra buck, cuz where else are ya gonna find that?! Upon arrival, everything looked great. Burger was nicely stacked with good height. The side veggies off to the side seemed nice and fresh and in perfect proportion. The pickles weren't the neon nuclear colored ones you see in cheap fast food places, these looked quite natural and of quality. But the bite no where correlated with the looks. First off, even though nice and juicy, the star of the show, the burger patty was totally unseasoned. It also had an off flavor, like it shouldn't have been served. Between the unseasoned and questionable meat, I just couldn't take more than a few bites. I basically took another bite because I just thought that it might get better. I was foolishly optimistic. Even the nicely melted cheese was tasteless. And the damn mushrooms that are supposed to elevate it, were damned unseasoned too. Ever taste an unseasoned mushroom, it taste like friggin' earth. But add a pinch of salt to it, then it becomes this magical thing of umami. They never gave that a chance to happen...unfortunately. Side of Fries ($4/5*) Ok so this hit big time, surprisingly at this point. Thickish hand cut Kennebecs were noticeably twice fried. Slight crisp on the exterior and nice and creamy inside. Just like In & Outs, but 5X better cuz of the thickness to crispness ratio. Perfectly salted also. I don't know what kind of cook you have to be to season potatoes perfectly, but completely ignore to season the meat, which cost 3X as much as the potatoes. It hurts my head to fathom. So 2 strikes out of the 3 in the burger meal equation, has to spell a fail. I basically paid $23+ for a french fry meal. Bummed to say the least.

Yelp
Ugh. I wish I could love this place. It's so close to my house, but every time I go, I find myself so disappointed. Today was no different. The food is mediocrely OK. Service is seemingly fine. I got a bacon burger most recently & just didn't enjoy it; I finished it but for the price it's not worth it. The fries are definitely the best part (I enjoyed them a lot!). The bun on my burger was a little stale, & the meat itself was not good. Bacon seemed as though it was cooked earlier in the day. Last time I went, I got a hot dog (being from Chicago my standards may be high) and that was not good... I remember that I didn't even finish it; I was hoping today would be different. I'll probably go back for fries and shakes (which I believe they have & my friend said was good!). Would love to see them revamp their burgers and hot dogs in the future.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Literally the BEST food I ever had. Everything on the menu is delicious. The owners are so awesome and down to earth. It's good for large groups, families, couples, and if your by yourself. I wish I still lived in Oakland so I could eat here more often
google avatar

Gray K.

Yelp
I won't come back. I paid $14 for two slices of tomato, a handful of arugula and and average lamb patty. What was described to me today was not what I was expecting - so bummed.
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
Delicious grass fed and organic burgers. Plus awesome vegan options! Love the fries and sweet potato fries. Plus the owners truly support the community. Love this place!
google avatar

Janine M.

Yelp
I placed an order with Park Burger via Door Dash. They confirmed the order 30 minutes after I submitted the order. I placed it around 3:30 and it was approved around 4. I asked for them to swap out the beef burger for chicken. I got a beef burger. My food arrived around 4:50. Fries were cold. And the most disgusting part is the burger was raw. So disappointed. I have ordered from here before and never had an issue. After today, no thanks....I'm done.
google avatar

Edgar R.

Yelp
French fries taste a little average and common so no original recipe there. Kids chicken tenders also tasted very average. Lamb burger and sweet potato fries were both good.

Yelp
Burger me UUUPP!!! Park Burger def knows how to throw down a solid cheeseburger. Had dinner here a few months ago and left with a satisfied tummy and a big ol' smile on my face. They did ya girl good y'all... REAL good. This place is sooo Oakland and I love that to DEATH! Their homage to Oakland is displayed all throughout the restaurant. They've got a huge map of Oakland as a backdrop for one of their walls. They use the names of Oakland's different districts as their "take-a-number" place holders, and they have the neatest pictures of what Oakland looked like back in the early 1900's in the restrooms. Yep, I noticed that. ALL of that. And, I loved it. You wait in line, order at the window, and they'll give you a number or "district" that you can take to place on your table. When your food is ready, they'll deliver it to you. They've got a decent amount of seating inside, a large TV, and a few tables in front. They've got tons of burger and shake options as well as a few salads on the menu. If you know me then you know that I'm generally a classic gal when it comes to burgers. It was only right that this classic gal order their "Classic Cheeseburger" for din din. I had their classic cheeseburger, sweet potato fries, and their specialty girl scout cookie mint milkshake. First things first; that girl scout cookie mint shake was theeeee friggin' BOOOMB diggity bomb, bay-bee! Literally tasted like I was straight up drinkin' a damn girl scout mint cookie. DEEEEELICIOUS! I can't imagine that they have this flavor year around, but if YOU see it on the menu... you best cop that sucka up REAL quick. Makin' me wish that girl scout cookie season was back in session. Next... those sweet potato fries. THOSE fries. Dear Geezus. Loved them. I've recently developed this new obsession with sweet potato fries. If I see them on the menu now, more than likely they'll be in my mouth at some point. Park Burger slays those sweet potato fries like no other. Nice and crispy, wonderful flavor, and a beautiful presentation. The only downside is that they're aioli dipping sauce is so WEAK. It nearly put a tear to my eye. What's a good sweet potato fry without the bomb ass aioli??? Was a little disappointed with this, but luckily these fries were tasty enough to be eaten alone. And finally; the cheeseburger. Noms! Nom, nom, nom, to the nom nom noooom. I STAN. Please peep the big ol' patty *correction*: Please peep the big ol' JUICY patty. With all that lovable melted cheese. And fresh vegetables to match. The bun could have been a little more toasted. Hell, the bun could have been waaay better in quality. It's a cheapy burger bun, but the patty is the true standout. Side note: If you want onions on your burger, you need to let them know when you order. Apparently, this doesn't come standard on their burgers. I need those raw onions in my life! They delivered on it. Once again, the aioli sauce was weak and lacked in flavor. Overall, it's still a very tasty burger. I'm sure their gourmet and specialty burgers are even better than their classic. Service was wonderful from all staff members that I encountered, especially the lady that helped me at the ordering counter (didn't get her name). This spot is a bit spendy for a burger and fries but definitely worth the splurge if you're looking for a good quality burger. Will I be back for me? You betcha I will! Next time, I think I'll take a walk on the wild side and try one of their gourmet burgers instead
google avatar

Eden C.

Yelp
I'm really torn because in the past I've loved this place. The fries were still just as tasty, but when I took a bite of my burger I could tell that I shouldn't be eating it. It was kind of gray and there was a smell and taste that just felt... off? When you know, you know. The staff was really friendly and assured me that the beef was grass fed and offered to make me a different one or a portobello burger, but I'm not a big fan of mushrooms and couldn't imagine eating beef after taking a bite of my first burger. Looking at recent reviews, it looks like my beef experience was not unique. Still giving 3/5 stars because I've been coming here for years and it's been so much better in the past! Hopefully this was a bad batch.
google avatar

Tati S.

Yelp
I wish I had the pics from the experience. I'm still going to look for them to amend this post! The burger came as delivery. 1st of all the lettuce and tomato were on the burger & when it arrived the flimsy tiny piece of lettuce and tomato were as thin as translucent rice paper. The bun was literally 1/2 saturated in meat juice and soggy. I did not receive my order how I asked for it at all. And I got no condiments! (The condiments were ordered online!) On all levels there was no care put into the way the burger was put together for delivery. Lettuce, tomato and bun need to be separated from the hot burger. I was so hungry and bummed.
google avatar

Tara M.

Yelp
My son and I love Park Burger. We've been coming here for years. Last night he had the Bacon Cheese Burger and loved it. He said it was the best bacon cheeseburger he'd eaten. I had garlic fries, another cheat day treat I've eaten their burgers, salads and different types of fries on several occasions and have enjoyed them all. They have excellent service and are very supportive to the Glenview community, which is very special to us. Last night was actually a fundraiser for Glenview Elementary which was great. I only have good things to say about ParkBurger, but you have to try them yourself if you want the true experience.
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
Cmon down and get yourself a boigah. Tasty and juicy. Fries are yummy. Get a beer. Or don't. Live your life.
google avatar

Tony U.

Yelp
Oakland's Glenview District is a nice little secret that isn't easy to find unless you know Oakland. Having lived in Oakland for over 10 years, I never knew of this place until my long time buddies I play poker chose to eat here. Boy I am glad I joined them. The place can get crowded so I recommend on weekends that you get there at around 5pm to avoid the dinner crowds. Burgers here made with grass fed beef. Then, they offer a wide variety of burgers (lamb burger, veggie burger. I had the TNT Burger (jalapenos, pepperjack cheese and the works) and loved it. The bun was nice and soft and they offer a mayo/aioli spread that is great. Atmosphere wise, the establishment is very comfy with friendly staff who work quickly without making you feel as if they are. There is also cool wallpaper of an enlarged map of the city of Oakland. The garlic fries are pretty darned good (a little too buttery for me) and the onion rings (I normally do not like) were spectacular. Lastly, they offer some pretty decent local beers. Try the Oakland Black if you like dark lagers (like I do)
google avatar

Mr L.

Yelp
I have frequented this restaurant for about 8years, Tic & her staff are extremely friendly and the food selections are top tier! Definitely a place to try if your in Oakland and want great food & good service..
google avatar

Eu W.

Yelp
Well I went to park burger today and the onion rings were hard as concrete. Then my daughter and son went to wash their hands and that's when all hell broke loose. The bathroom door lock broke and they got trapped in there for 30 min. The owner was called and he comes attempting to open it with a little screwdriver. Only when I called the fire department did he break the door down and get my kids out. Never did he say sorry nor did he comp the meal. Just kept saying it never happened before. I don't care if it happened before. It's happening right now to my kids! I've never been angrier about an experience in a restaurant. I'm not looking for a free meal but the offer would have made me feel a bit better. I couldn't even finish the meal after the experience. Just packed the subpar food up and left in silence.

Marylynne C.

Yelp
Best burger place in Oakland hands down. I got the impossible burger with pickled red onions and added cheese. The garlic aioli they use is FIRE. I asked for another one to try and I got the sweet spicy aioli and it was amazing too. Don't order on a delivery app. They are great local business. I called and ordered ahead for pickup. The girl was so nice and friendly. My pickup experience was great too. You can also order drinks to go! Highly recommended!
google avatar

darla v.

Yelp
This place was so good and so convenient. I highly recommend the Lamb burger! I can't wait to go back again. Their fries and milkshakes are also amazing. Great location.

Sandra G.

Yelp
The servers were nice, but the food was not good. Had a hamburger that was dry and over cooked and very small. The millkshake was thin and sweet and nor more tasted like the coffee one we ordered It had pieces of chrystalized on top. That was the only sign of coffee. It was like drinking sweet milk. Would never go back

Yelp
I have wanted to try Park Burger for awhile and was excited to check them out this week. We ordered a cheeseburger with blue cheese, the lamb burger and garlic fries for take out. When I entered the restaurant, I loved the vibe and thought the table signs for orders were a fabulous touch of areas within Oakland (e.g. Maxwell Park, Laurel a Heights, Redwood Heights, etc.). I was impressed to see the food held up well in transport home. The lamb burger was delicious and perfectly cooked. The cheese burger with blue cheese was generous on the condiments. If you love blue cheese, it's perfect however I felt it was a bit overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it was fantastic but I had to scrape off a bit of the cheese so that I could taste the beef. I prefer a balance of beef and blue cheese. The garlic fries was seasoned with garlic and Parmesan and was tasty. I'm so glad that Park Burger is in Oakland and will definitely be coming back soon. I will try to milkshakes next time!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
This current version of Park Burger is a sad sad shadow of its former self. I just ordered a classic with cheese and wish I had drove a little farther for a QP with cheese. This is tragic and I DONOT recommend going here unless you want to be disappointed. No gourmet burgers found here.

Joshua W.

Yelp
Got a custom burger: impossible patty, blue cheese, grilled onions, and aioli. Also got a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was quite good, though whatever they grilled/sautéed the onions in overpowered the other flavors a bit. The sweet potato fries were perfect: a little crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the ideal mix of sweet and savory. Will definitely be going back.
google avatar

julia s.

Yelp
Love this spot. Great variety of burgers, with high quality meat. Great salads with local produce. And crunchy fries (honestly, hard fo find!). The shakes are great, especially raspberry. And really friendly team!
google avatar

Fresh E.

Yelp
Grass fed meat with gluten free buns; what's not to like? The strawberry shake is Amazing!! Fries are always perfect! Because I'm committed to eating less meat, and only organic/free range, this place is perfect for me when I'm hungry! And, yes to those who want to know; they have a gender neutral restroom. And very importantly, even when they are slammed, the staff is kind. #GF #Gluten-Free #Glutenfree #GenderNeutral Tags are for folks like me who have a hard time dining actual GF buns vs lettuce :)

Jose c.

Yelp
Service is good. Staff was very cordial. Not very busy, was pretty quiet and quaint. Burgers are very tasty. But $8 for fries is a bit much

Amily H.

Yelp
Best burger in Oakland! I like the classic burger with sweet potato fries. Salads are great too! Vegan options are good too. Highly recommend.

Michael S.

Yelp
Hey, Park Burger, Did you change your meat? I ordered the standard cheese burger, fries, and shake as I have since they opened many years ago. Boy was I disappointed! The burger patty was tasteless, over cooked, thin, and did not have a good texture. The bun was not toasted. French Fries and shake were ok. It was not like this in years past, even during the Pandemic.

Johnny Y.

Yelp
It's all very overpriced. A simple burger with cheese and pickled jalapeños is $15. A basket of onion rings is over $10. And I felt the staff rushed my family and me to to leave as we left the restaurant (someone even scolded me for placing my drink and takeout box down on a table to pick up my kids).
google avatar

Marcus A.

Yelp
Meh. The fries were great. The burgers aren't good enough to cost as much as they do. It's cool that have so many vegan options, but I've had much better Impossible Burgers, and I might even argue that Burger King does it better.

elizabeth b.

Yelp
Delicious. Especially recommend the impossible burger which is tremendous. And don't forget the sweet potato fries.
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
Classic cheeseburger and garlic fries are freaking amazing!! You HAVE to get the fries!!! My husband came here the day before because we had lunch at the local synagogue and fish was served - he's not a fan. So he popped by here on his own and had a great time without me. Of course, I made him take me here and he didn't put up a fight. Burger was deconstructed so you add the lettuce, tomato, pickles (they're sweet and not sour.. I likey), and garlic aioli on your own. The fries.. amazing. Just order it. Seriously. That.. GOOD!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
We have been coming to Park Burger since they opened. At the beginning it was in point, the brioche buns, the burgers, and the garlic mayonnaise were amazing. Over the years they've slowly gone downhill. Tonight my son's impossible burger was good and the onion rings were fine. But our classic burgers with cheese were not good. The burger was bland, the garlic mayo was also not garlicky and bland, and the pickles were terrible. I'm not sure what's going on but the restaurant has been inconsistent for the last couple of years. I won't be back anytime soon unless my kid wants an impossible burger. But we're searching for other options.
google avatar

Luciana M.

Yelp
I'm never going here again. I gave this place many chances to make a decent lamb burger. Last night's burger was disgusting. It was over cooked and had lots of gristle and I could barely eat it. It's a shame because they try really hard, and the staff got my order perfect except for the way the food was cooked. Plus, whenever I have brought this to their attention, they have never offered me a credit or another burger. I'm never buying food here again.
google avatar

Kashyap M.

Yelp
We ordered the vegan Ramirez burger and a vegan oreo milkshake. The milkshake was really good. For a burger joint the burger was really disappointing. Burger was served at room temperature and lacked any flavor. The staff was kind enough to make us another one which was warm but the bun was burnt. I don't recommend the vegan burgers here.
