"How did it strike you on arrival? The ancient stone walls of this 17th-century monastery-turned boutique hotel are quintessential Umbria. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the space mixes modern furnishings with Renaissance paintings, Flemish tapestries, and majolica pottery. Nice. What’s the crowd like? This charming corner of Italy doesn't get a ton of American travelers, so those who do come here have likely visited the country's most well-known destinations and are looking for something different. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Standard rooms are a bit on the small side but come equipped with all the necessary conveniences. Some rooms have lovely views of the surrounding hills and town. The sleek and modern furnishings are a nice contrast with the historic architecture. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The bed was comfortable; nothing out of the ordinary. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The bathroom was pretty standard; nothing to write home about. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wifi is free and the signal is quite good. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The elegant Nicolao Restaurant serves Umbrian specialties (including several dishes with a generous helping of fresh shaved truffles) in a space that marries the hotel's traditional architecture with modern art and furniture. The excellent spa is a major draw, with a pool and hydromassage area comprising various tubs and jacuzzis with mineral-rich waters. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?A five-star grand dame on par with Rome's best hotels this is not, but it is one of the best options in Umbria. Between the historic architecture, the excellent restaurant, and relaxing spa, it's a lovely place to stay. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The price is quite reasonable for a hotel of this quality and in this location, a short drive from the historic center of the charming Umbrian town of Gubbio."

We just stayed at the Park Hotel Ai Cappuccini for 3 nights and it was excellent. The location was perfect for us as we enjoy walking and it was just a 10-15 minute walk to “Centro Storico di Gubbio.” We also had a car and it was a great base for seeing the surrounding area. They have great parking on site. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The building was beautiful. The facilities from the pool, workout room and sauna were great (to name just a few). They had a fabulous breakfast, very delicious. To top it off, you could see attention to every detail and entire staff was wonderful! Thank you so much to everyone at the Park Hotel Ai Cappucini! We’d love to return and I highly recommend!|

I have mixed feelings about this hotel, a bit more negative than positive. First off the hotel looks great from the outside, and the common areas are very nice as well. The hotel is a converted monastery so it definitely has character and charm. However once you scratch below the surface then you start to realize this should not be labeled a luxury hotel. If it was independent I would have less of a problem with it, but they are part of the "Small Luxury Hotel" alliance (SLH) therefore they have international hotel luxury levels to uphold but unfortunately they do not. ||I am no longer top tier of the SLH loyalty program, I recently did not stay often enough with this hotel chain to renew top tier so I am now middle tier, consequently I did not expect a material room upgrade. I received a modest +1 upgrade from entry level room which was not a surprise. The room was acceptable in some ways, but the upkeep / maintenance was lacking. The towel heater was not heating and the paint was cracking and rusting. The room was very hot so we needed to open the window for some fresh air; the handle was loose and difficult to operate and will possibly fall off soon. The hairdryer was hanged and attached to the wall, which is something far more common at cheap hotels like an Ibis.||The main feature which did not meet luxury standards was breakfast. It was appalling, in Italy of all places. The only hot dish was scrambled eggs and bacon. The only vegetable available was large uncut tomatoes. Heck even lowly Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express hotels offer better. ||Service was hit and miss - in the restaurant it was fine, and also I wanted to buy bottles of wine from their impressive cellar and someone came to unlock it and show me around. But there were other aspects where service fell short of luxury level. Upon arrival there was nobody to help at the entrance with luggage. Also every luxury hotel should have room service available all day but at this hotel it did not start until 8pm which made it impossibly late because we travel with a 2-year old. The restaurant itself also did not open until 8pm so we simply could not have dinner at the hotel.||Overall this is not a luxury hotel and does not belong in the SLH group. If it was an independent hotel and considering the complete absence of international hotel chains in the area, I would be far more lenient but if a hotel belongs in an international group then guests will judge differently. The price tag at Park Hotel Ai Cappucini was also not cheap at all - it is inflated due to benefiting from the SLH name without fully delivering on quality.

A last minute booking (as we needed to move from a less than suitable hotel nearby) and we were not disappointed! An excellent hotel with a lovely welcome and wonderful front of house service. We had a superior room which was lovely with complimentary Prosecco to celebrate my wife's birthday whilst we were there. Although we didn't use it, complimentary spa and pool use was included with our room and the breakfasts and dinners were excellent with a good choice of dishes and impeccable service throughout. Well done on an excellent two night stay albeit a bit on the expensive side.

We were overwhelmed by the hotel. Period, Full stop, The room was large, comfortable and well furnished and the bathroom was the best we experienced during our two-week Umbrian sojourn. The spa, pool and gym facilities are astonishing! We devoured two wonderful meals with "curated" wines provided by the excellent wait-staff.

Beautiful hotel, with outstanding features (swimming pools, spa, paddle court...). Great place for us to stay and rest when driving across Italy. The restaurant was also excellent with great dishes. I would have enjoyed a bit more info when I checked-in to better understand what the hotel had to offer, but I obviously find out by myself. Overall, I can only recommend this excellent hotel!!

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, which was once a monastery, just outside the old town of Gubbio. Walking to the center of Gubbio took only 10 minutes. The hotel has a lot of parking and is easy to reach from the main roads. The restaurant is excellent. They serve specialties from the region. I had two dinners and a lunch here. Service is professional and friendly. The 25 meter swimming is unusual in Italy and I enjoyed doing laps in the afternoon after a long walk. There is a spa which offers massages and facials. I would definitely come back to this hotel.

Pros: Nice spacious hotel. Very quite. Good indoor pool. Good gym. Every day room cleaning. Friendly staff. Ok location for travellers by car. Cons: Not very much child friendly, no playgrounds, no entertainment, some dangerous places for small kids( e.g. sharp corner in outdoor pool). No good outdoor pool for children. Not everything cleaned perfectly, some spider net on the lamp in our room. Price is not cheap, but sauna is not included, which is usually included in other hotels. Hotel visitors are mainly people 60+. City center is 20 min walk, in close proximity almost no restaurants or anything.

Amazing hotel, beautiful rooms, beautiful spaces, amazing food. Great location and even possible to get out for a run in the morning. There are some beautiful buildings if you turn left out of driveway.||Slowest, rudest barman in Italy. Customers a massive inconvenience.
