"Maksimir Park is a large English-style park in Zagreb, established in 1794. It includes several lakes, pavilions, and the Zagreb zoo, offering a relaxing green space for visitors." - Annalisa Leopolda Cavaleri

"For a wooded escape within city limits, take the tram a few stops east of Ban Jelačić Square and meander around Maksimir, the oldest public park in Zagreb. Opened back in 1794, it’s almost as big as Manhattan’s Central Park, and elegantly landscaped in the English style. Stroll around the five lakes (don’t jump in, as swimming is prohibited), tour the historic pavilions, and visit the small but sweet Zagreb Zoo. The park gets jam-packed on warm weekends, but it’s large enough that you can still get lost in its woodsy wilds no matter the crowds."

Maksimir Park is the oldest public park in Zagreb, Croatia. Filled with lakes, meadows, and forest, it is the perfect place to find solitude in Zagreb - there's several neat old architecture buildings to see, plus a paid zoo on the southern end. Otherwise entry to all aspects of the park are free.

The weather was foggy, but it couldn’t hide the beauty of the scenery :) It was an amazing park… the lake was frozen, and it was the first frozen lake I had ever seen. Nature is such a wonderful thing :) I really loved it!

My favorite park in Zagreb! The lakes are really peaceful! There are a couple restrooms available for guests that are decedent. I take my dog here regularly to socialize and enjoy nature. There are some lovely sculptures and beautiful wildlife! Also I appreciate the historical landmarks.

This is a huge forest park just outside the city of Zagreb but easily reached by public transports. It's full of trees and lakes. We spent good hours here just doing bird watching. There are several trails for walking. Ideal for dog walking as well. It's a great park to spend a nice time with nature. Highly recommended.

Maksimir Park, originally created on the outskirts of Zagreb at the end of the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, is today completely surrounded by urban neighborhoods. Even in this new environment, Maksimir Park remains a place where many plant and animal species have found refuge, despite its relatively small area of 316 hectares.

Loved it! Great place to sit. Unwind and super clean and natural. Loved the zoo too…. Especially those prairie dogs.

Easily the best park in Zagreb and also the oldest (founded in 1787) and biggest (780 acres). I love the variety of landscapes present here; from wide open meadows, numerous lakes and wonderful woodland. Even on a busy weekend you can get away from the crowds if you head into the woods in the heart of this park. There is a nice Caffè on the hill with good views and plenty of benches dotted around the park to sit and relax.

It is close to the city center and has lots of greenery, and the zoo inside, although small, provides a natural environment for many animals.
