Park To Shop

This park and Shop is right next to the International Mall. This Chinese grocery chain has location in Chicago, Chinatown, Nile and few more places. They offer traditional Chinese grocery, fresh produce, seafoods and a butcher shop. I was surprised at some of the items they don’t carry.

Great Asian grocery store! Was pleasantly surprised to find this directly across the street form the hotel my husband and I were staying at! We love Asian food, and we took full advantage of their selection of snacks and quick meals. We also got food from the indoor food court next door, which was delicious, and had lots of options.

This parking shop was nice pretty organized and the staff was friendly. However, I purchased some tea into my surprise today. When I was about to open it I see that it is expired as of August and I purchased it in February. I don’t live anywhere near this location so there’s no way I can return it. This is very disappointing. Please check the expiration dates before purchasing anything from this location.

Mid-September 2024 KUDOs: Medium-size Asian store selling canned goods, fresh vegetables, food items, home decor. A variety of offerings in a clean environment. Lower prices than similar type stores. Mango drink with pulp so tasty! CHALLENGEs: Stark exterior misleading; saw no cars or people so didn’t think it was a functioning store. Wish we had visited it earlier than check-out day. Recommended.

Decent selection of Asian products, they carry food and kitchenware. This is the only place within 5 mile radius to get Chinese eggplant, which is for the uninitiated the best eggplant to cook without a prep to remove the bitterness!

Awesome updates, under new ownership and now the shelves are fully stocked! Friendly staff and lots of fresh food. I will definitely return!

Good selection of basic home grocery items. They only had one kind of mogu mogu though which was unfortunate.

Asian cooking tools, sauces, and other ingredients but mainly focused on Chinese ones. Good prices. Baked goods from Chinatown. Fresh chow fun. Some live fish and crab. Frozen, canned, and dry goods. All sorts of Asian grains.

I mean this isn't high end lemon tree stuff but all the needs of cooking a Chinese cuisine at home are pretty much here. Sure they could prolly tidy up some but that's not what this Chinese grocer is about. Instead it's plenty of selection. I scored dried chilies, green and red Sichuan spice, 4 different kinds of soy sauce, black vinegar, sesame oils, the list goes on. So no thrills decor but comes thru for no nonsense essentials.

It's an ok Park to Shop and apparently has been here for about 3 years. It was pretty quiet on a weekday early afternoon here. This is the smallest Park to Shop I have encountered to date, but I'm sure there is plenty enough here and it is appreciated by the locals.

Very quiet on a weekday afternoon. Produce section was phenomenal - everything was fresh and stocked. Many small sections of the store seemed quite empty. There was only one or two of many items left on shelves. I would come back here since it's in a convenient location for me however I've been to an alternative Park to Shop store in the Chicago suburbs that I thought was much better.

Decent shop for picking up Asian groceries. I like to come here for the vegetables, tea, and Asian desserts. Last time I came here, I picked up a box of mung beans popsicles. Delicious! Perfect on a hot, sunny day. They're also usually stocked with one of my favorite candies, Kopiko. Great caffeinated, coffee-based lozenge for when you need a pick me up. Service was efficient. Will definitely be back!

Me and my mom came here thinking it would be two trips this one and a different store, but it ended up only being one trip a bunch of stuff that we didn't even know existed a good amount of stuff. Good quality overall not bad. And they had bamboo!!!!!!!!

Great selection of products and excellent prices, especially on produce. Make sure to get the fresh chow fun noodles and check out the bakery products.

I was happy to see a new owner bring this grocery store back open. If you are looking for a certain soy sauce, this is your place. They also have a location in Chicago Chinatown.

This store now has new owners. It is no longer Whole Grain. It's now Park to Shop. The old reviews (a year older) are not for the current store. It should be removed but not sure how to notify Yelp about this. Therefore the low ratings are unfair. This store is far superior to the old store. There is plenty of selection, produce and Inventory, unlike the old store. Please shop here. It's awesome that you don't have to trek all the way into Chinatown to get condiments, sauces, fresh noodles and frozen dumplings.

We wandered in here in stumbling across this little Asian community in seeking out International Mall to share a meal at Chinese Café. After perusing a few aisles, we were confused - were they closing down and going out of business? While shelves were indeed stocked, they were barely so, with wide gaps in between sections in the rows and columns of bottled sauces, dry goods, and so on. The deli section was dark, unlit, as were several other areas that normally would also be well-lit. Those sections were all completely empty as well. It was an unusual sight to us and left us both theorizing. Upon reaching the also-empty fish tanks that my Irishman peered into, a voice called over that the fish would arrive tomorrow. Again, we found ourselves contemplating theories. Maybe they were just now opening the store and still getting it in order. It would explain the boxes upon boxes of greens sitting in on the floor in the produce section, waiting to be processed, and the single rows of bottles where other markets would have rows stacked behind rows both to give impression of plentifulness and to maximize profit-to-investment ratio in their inventory restocking. Realistically, a quick Yelp scan through the market's reviews would have set the matter straight immediately, but we were having fun. Come to find out now, the market has been around as Whole Grain Market for well over a decade. Wow. So much for all that theorizing. So what we have is a little market in a location far larger than it seems to be capable of handling well. One with prices too high and both variety and quantity too low to warrant being a strong contender as a staple supermarket for the surrounding Asian community given several other, far better-stocked and priced options. While glad for the cans of grass jelly and basil seed drinks to pair with our lunch date at the Chinese Café next door, I'll give this one a miss aside from that.

I went to Whole Grain Market to pick up my usual 100 count boxes of Oolong & Jasmine tea bags. Much to my dismay, the doors were locked during normal business hours. There was no indication that it was out of business, but the lady in the restaurant next door said they closed down the business. She further informed me that a new owner was tentatively going to re-open sometime after the first of 2021. Needless to say, I was sad and disappointed. Now I need to find another Chinese vendor who will sell 100 count boxes of my favorite teas. I went to the Chinese store in the strip mall behind Jewel-Osco (north of) but they only carry 40 count bags of tea, and they are bulk-packed.

I don't understand the store's low ratings. We went here looking for specialty items -- preserved eggs, dried shitake mushrooms, Chinese broccoli, frozen green onion pancakes, fresh (and packaged) dim sum, and so forth, and found everything we wanted in a clean store with wide aisles and logical organization. Multiple options for all non-fresh items. Parking is easy (hence the name?) and the wait at check out was short. I'm quite happy with my visit here, and I'll be back!

What I love about this place is that when I went to check it out, I got myself 5 different kinds of grains that I had difficulty finding elsewhere. And they have wild rice!! Helpful and friendly staff - seems like they are a family business.

Ownership has changed to Park and Shop. This place was dim, scary looking, and really high prices. I went in to pick up Korean Rice Cakes. Wow. Prices were easily more than 50% less. The brand is better too. These rice cakes have way more integrity after cooking. And again more than half off. Walked through, and the fish and shrimp looked really good. Chicken needs some work. Anyway, fear no more for your wallet or food safety

Man this place looks DEAD. It literally looks like a grocery store in a post apocalyptic world. I would say that 90% of the lights were off. The produce and seafood section in the back was non existent. Their shelves were so bare and only 1 row deep when they did have something. Most of their foods were super shelf stable stuff, because business was clearly not strong enough to support produce or anything with a expiration date within a month. The drinks cases were only half lit and none of it was cold. There was only one person working who seemed to just be watching movies on their phone and seemed uninterested in checking us out. I'm surprised this place is still open at all.

Last time I visited this location, it was poorly lighted, with very little produce and dark aisles of empty shelves. I returned yesterday and was delighted to find the place completely redone. Brightly lighted, aisles clean and stacked with a huge variety of products and an extensive produce section. Reasonable prices. A change of owners, I presume. Will definitely return.

We used to love this place, as dilapidated as it used to be, when it was Whole Grain. Now it's Park and Shop, and it's a whole new place. Utter surprise at how gorgeous it is now. Fully stocked, great produce section, clean and beautiful, big live fish selection. Our daughter turned me on to a whole new bunch of stuff here. If you thought it was quaint before, it's a completely different experience now. We went in for a few items, and walked out with a bunch. Feel very lucky to have a place like this in town with lots of exotic items (exotic to ME, anyway). And the prices are excellent.

Update: new ownership and a waaaay better store still close to home! Went last night for our favorite Asian frozen treats!

Store Review: Is this place closing down? This place is unfortunately a sorry example of a grocery store. When you walk in, many of the shelves are barren as if a disaster had hit and the store was ransacked. There is your typical selection of asian goods, but the prices are slightly higher than chinatown and possibly less fresh. This place felt like a ghost town. I ended up buying some groceries and afterwards regretted it as the price for a bag of rice was 4-5 dollars more than other asian groceries stores I have been to. The only redeeming value was the cashier spoke Cantonese and she offered some cooking tips that I probably couldn't get anywhere else Pros- asian grocery items Cons- Barren shelves, higher prices, not sure what happen to this place... Hidden deals- None

I love coming to this store, it's clean, well stocked, and the products are in well marked aisles, but my experience with the staff has been extremely disappointing. This morning, I shopped around with my family. Two adults and one teenager. We were followed the entire time. It wasn't the sort of situation that could be misinterpreted, because we walked across the entire store, and there was a man wearing a grey puffer jacket following us. (I know he worked there because he rang us out) Every 2 mins, he would either walk into the end cap of the aisle we were in and pretend to fix something, or he would walk across, staring. Another lady in uniform entered the aisle we were in SEVERAL times and stood next to where we were, adjusting product or moving things around, while glancing over her shoulder. We are all visibly Mexican, and we occasionally spoke to each other in spanish while in the store. Offended doesn't cover it. We were made to feel like criminals and we weren't doing anything wrong. I still can't think of a reason they could have been following us other than the fact that we were Mexican. The store was full of other people, yet we seemed to be the only ones of interest to the employees. Maybe we will try shopping here again, but not for a while.

I have been going to this store for many years. It used to be called DIHO Market. I can usually find what I want at this unique store. It doesn't have as many patrons as it used to have ,I am worried we may not be around much longer if people don't start going there. It's not only for ethnic Chinese folks ! If you are a gourmet or novice cook try it out ! They will also give you any advice or explain how to use any of their products happily.

If you are in the Western Burbs this is the place to get most of your Asian grocery goods. I love their tea selection. They carry several varieties of TenRen Tea, Twinpeak Tea and many others. It's been a long time since I've been here, and it's really gone downhill. Back in the mid-2000s, this place was THE Asian ethnic market accessible to the west and southwest burbs. Maybe there was better stuff up in Schaumburg, but this seemed to be the only place this far south and west. They had lots of good produce, and important spices and ingredients that were hard to find elsewhere. It was never super fancy, but it had that charm that let you know you were getting good value. Those days are gone. As other reviewers have noted, the store looks like it was hit by a tornado. When I visited, there was no produce out, and the produce area looked to be barricaded. There was nothing out in the fresh food cases or behind the counters, though that might just have been from it being early in the day. Then again, I was clearly the only person in the store. The shelves were minimally stocked with very little product. I was sad to see the place in this state, but glad I hadn't made a special trip. I hope they can make a comeback someday. I used to love coming here.

I really thought this store was closed as I walked into it. There was hardly anything on the shelves. I stuck my hand behind weird curtain thing that keeps the frozen food cold and everything was lukewarm. For the hell of it, I decided to check out the produce and there was maybe 10 items. I circled back to the front and saw a man with a drink in his hand looking for someone to check him out. The only employee stands up from her chair from across the room and slowly makes her way to the register. Just close already and make room for something else.

More like old grain and not fresh market... Just don't... I can't even... Short review because I can't think of anything positive to write and too many negative aspects to mention.

I've been to a lot of Asian grocery stores and can deal with the depressing warehouse vibe and bizarre smells (well, to an extent) for the most part. This store, however, is the worst. It's ridiculously large and yet barren. The produce looks very sad and wilted... the most egregious example being a bunch of wrinkly, dark brown bananas. The items on the shelves looked really old too. I can now say that I've seen burgundy-colored Heinz ketchup before. (Although... who is buying Heinz ketchup at the Asian grocery store anyway? Why are they even selling this stuff?) Everything is super expensive as well. I saw a can of coconut milk marked at $2.75 (I can buy coconut milk at other Asian grocery stores for $1.39, or $1.89 at the supermarket where "ethnic" items are marked up) and a box of Wei-Chuan dried noodles for over $12 (are you kidding me?? And I had thought $6.50 was expensive at the supermarket).

Whole Grain Fresh Market is located directly east of the International Mall and Yu's Mandarin. It's an Asian grocery store with products like you'd find in Chinatown or along Argyle, but in a larger space than most. In the handful of times I've been there, I've been a solo shopper, or perhaps one of two people present. Staffing seems to be pretty lean (just one checkout lane open on the times I've visited). Their selection of goods did not seem to be notably greater than the typical Asian market despite the size differential. They have everything you'd expect to find, but no great surprises. The produce racks and refrigerated units are sparsely populated - one area where the larger square footage isn't doing them any favors. It was nice, however, to be able to find the ingredients for som tam salad like Thai chilis, palm sugar, green papaya, dried shrimp, fish sauce (Three Crabs, Squid and others) just a few minutes from home. As an added bonus, they have the difficult-to-find Kewpie brand mayo, which I haven't seen elsewhere in the w. burbs. Give it a try if you're stuck in a Hellman's rut. I'm glad that Whole Grain Fresh Market is not too far away. I wish they had a greater variety of produce and that they'd spruce the interior up a bit, but I will take it as-is.

They changed their name? WTF? Growing up in the Western Suburbs in the 80s and 90s, Diho was the only place within easy driving distance where my parents could get all their Chinese/Taiwanese staples. In grade school, I thought Diho was cool because they sold Botan Rice Candy - you know, the with the inner rice-paper wrapper that melted in your mouth. That stuff was awesome. Looking back, this place was instrumental in my indoctrination into things Chinese/Taiwanese.

What in the world...my family used to do all our shopping here 15 + years ago. This place is a sad shell of a post apocalyptic grocery store. Most of the lights were off, the automatic doors were not automatic, shelves were empty and the entire produce section was reduced to a few bags of greens. There was 1 employee and we were the only people in the store. I don't understand how it is still open. The products they did have look old and expired and way more expensive than Hmart.

One of my very favorite grocery stores in the world. A unique, stand-alone grocer featuring solely asian foods of all types (frozen, nonperishable, etc.) including live fish and other acquatic life. Incredible and especially for the fresh baked goods they carry occasionally (such as the fermented rice sweet, sweet red bean paste buns, pork buns, etc.). Man...this place was known as DIHO my entire life. I was very surprised when I came in one day to find they had changed their name, but that is all that has really changed with this place. This is one of the first asian markets I started shopping at with my parents, and they have everything you could possibly need as far as asian goods go. When I was a kid I used to climb atop the mounds of 50-lb bags of rice they had stocked up at in the front of their store. I would get my Pocky fix and Rice candies here. The egg tarts are delightful. I also frequent International Mall next door for cheap cheap authentic Chinese food (get the governer's chicken at the pink booth!)

It's authentic, that's for sure. If you're looking for Peking Duck, fish heads for soup, live fish or crabs, or any of a hundred other Asian items they probably have it. They prepare a good amount of items in-house such as bakery items, duck (roasted or Peking), and other to-go dishes. For the uninitiated this place may seem a little bizarre. They have tanks with live fish in the back, whole ducks hanging from a rack (think fa ra ra ra ra) and odd cuts of meat. There are even more frozen and refrigerated items that are out of the mainstream (at least in the U.S.). They also have hard to find accessories like knives, steamers, bowls, etc... They must have dozens of types of soy sauce.

I have so many fond memories of this place growing up as it was our monthly journey out to get some fresh groceries and Asian vegetables and rice. Great stop to pick up some fresh fish for dinner, too. However, the main purpose of really coming by here is to stop by the mini mall next door to grab some warm soy milk and those fried dough things for breakfast. Yum!

Don't expect to get accurate translations of package contents. I asked the clerk if a package of green tea was matcha powder. It was in the same place on the shelf where i had gotten matcha before. She assured me it was macha. 10 bucks for a small, completely opaque bag with foreign writing in it. Of course when i opened it there was loose green tea leaves. Not matcha. I asked to exchange it and the clerk said they cant take back open packages. How could i tell the cashier gave me the wrong product without opening it i asked. She replies Not my fault. You cannot return. So for 10 bucks they have lost my business. I cant believe they stay open with this nasty service. There is no one ever in the place. Maybe everyone else got tired of wrong advice and money wasted.

This place used to be one of my favorite places to get fun candy and ramune, but in the past couple of years it is just not the same. They don't have any of the candy the used to which is fine, but there is just no selection any more. I can deal with the prices being high, but they are too high for everyday items. They do have a good selection of grab and go drinks and fresh bakery items like pork rolls and mochi buns, but not as many of the snacks. I have never actually come here for groceries, but it seems like their produce is good. I imagine it is expensive. They have a tank of live fish in the back as well. They are just swimming, waiting for death. Sad.

I thought the store was closed when I walked in. Only half of the lights were on. The lady there greeted me. I felt bad because this used to be a thriving oriental grocery store. I thought I would be nice and spend a little money there to "help out." As I was leaving the store, I saw Queen of the Night plants rooting in water. The sign said $3.99. When I pulled out the largest one, the lady said, "Obviously this one is not $3.99." I did end up buying a smaller rooting, but not the big one I wanted. I felt like my "kindness" in trying to "help out" was surpassed by the lady's greed for more money. The sign said $3.99... and she was changing the price to get more money. Be wise if you chose to shop there.

Not sure how this place is still open. When I walked in it looked post-apocalyptic-- lights off, empty shelves, no customers. I stopped by because I needed one frozen food item and this is the only Asian market on the way home. The item, which is typically $2-3 at other grocery stores, was over $5. I paid cash and didn't receive a receipt. The item I purchased was the only one in the freezer. When I got home I realized the expiration date was changed with a pen. The expired 2017 date was switched to a wonky 2018.

WGFM has reopened. It seems like many of the businesses in this shopping complex are having issues staying open for business. The product offering is meager at the moment. Shelves are a bit empty Meat options are minimal at best (this has never been a place to purchase meat). Prepared foods (roasted duck, pork products, rice dishes) are not around anymore either........will they return. Come to think of it...................there are much better places to chop for Asian essentials. This is purely a geographic play if you are in the area.

The selection was all over the place. Missing a few standards, but then they had a few unexpected items. The produce was pretty bad -- mostly old, and very poor selection. One highlight was the small freezer case full of vegetarian meat (mostly VeriSoy brand). I'm not a huge fan of fake meat, but the selection was pretty impressive, and included shrimp, shredded crab, cuttlefish balls, ham, goose, and squid. I wouldn't bother making the trek again, though. I think my usual spots in Chinatown are a little cheaper and have similar selection.

I remember coming to Whole Grain Fresh Market 5-10 years ago and seeing lots of fresh produce and items. Like others have said, the inventory for produce and even dry goods has been significantly low. I wasn't able to find any sesame oil when I recently visited. I too also wonder if they are struggling. It's sad to see as it was once a bustling grocery store. I think you might have better luck going to HMart in Naperville or Pete's Fresh Market on Pulaski in Archer Heights (a minute South of I-55) for Asian grocery items.

You'd think this place has a decent location, what with the Taiwanese cafeteria that gets consistent traffic and it's practically in the middle point between Naperville (where there's an H Mart) and Chinatown. Unfortunately, they barely have any produce, seafood, butcher to make it worth coming here for some general Asian grocery shopping. They couldn't even strike some deal to supply the local restaurants nearby to keep a decent turnover? What they do have, however, are all the different sauces that you may need for Chinese cooking, and that's what consistently brings me back here as it's the closet place by me that sells Taiwanese Black Vinegar (I use that a lot).

As others have said, the inventory is low, and prices are high. However, it's conveniently located off of the 83-Ogden exit, and within 5 miles from my apartment. As such, it's now my go-to destination for peking duck and apple cidra soda :) The price for the peking duck is reasonable at $9/half, same price we found in Chinatown. Nevertheless, I think I'll stick to HMart for everything else.

Whole Grain Fresh Market (Daiho) might be the only thing around here for Asian specialty items but I'd really rather drive the extra hour for a clean, tidy store. You could shop here on-the-fly, okay, the seafood counter smells really strongly of fish today, avoid that for now...and this aisle has something sticky, right, stepping over that... Nah.

This store used to be called Diho Market. It was sold to a new owner, but the staff are pretty much the same. The selections are all right, but not great. However, the store is more geared towards Chinese customers more so than other stores such as H-Mart which is geared more for Koreans and Japanese. Fresh produce: - very limited selection. The prices are not great, but within range. Some items are cheaper else where. That goes for fresh sea food and meats. Exclusively Asian items such as bean sprouts are there. Then again you can find that at H-Mart in Naperville. Chinese items: - such as fresh noodles and exclusively other Chinese things are there, but you can find them cheaper in Chinatown. Sea food and fresh meats: - The selection is fair given the size of the store. There is not much by way of variety. Prepared foods: - There is a good assortment of prepared Chinese food that is ready to be heated and served. To this extent, I am pleased to see. Otherwise, the nearest stop will be Chinatown. Finally, the staff are unfriendly. The shopping carts are not designed well. I purchased a bottle of Sesame Seeds Oil, and placed it in the card. The trap door on the upper part of the card opened involuntarily, and the bottle fell and broke. I paid for this broken bottle. Had this been Jewel Food Store, the store would absorb the lost. On top of that, a female staff who appeared to be a manager gave me the attitude. Yes, I bought another bottle to replace the one that fell and was broken. Angry? You bet. Even though it has been over a year, I still remember the way that I was treated. Unless hardpressed to get something quickly, I would rather go to H-Mart or Chinatown to get what I need.

This is the worst run market I have ever seen. I was with my elderly mother who was returning Indonesian spice packets that had oil that had clearly had become rancid. Two out of the three were not opened and the third my mother had brought it so the manager could smell it. The manager was not going to allow her to return the products and in fact, began accusing my mother of opening the thin shrink wrap of the other two products (it was sold that way). I began confronting the woman that she needs to refund her money since her store should not be selling spoiled food. I accompanied her to the aisle (which was largely empty) and she took the last package off the shelf and said "see it is sealed" and I took it and pointed out that there was a hole in that one too. not that it mattered b/c it was actually more of a problem that the product has probably been sitting not the shelves for many many months given the lack of sales. After about 10 minutes of argument she eventually agree to give us a store credit for two of the products (minus the tax my mom paid). This short sighted view is why this market has such low ratings; they would rather sell spoiled food and charge people for it so that they don't lose the money they spent on the products, than consider each customer as a potential lifetime customer. My mother will take her asian grocery shopping elsewhere. I would never go to this store again. It truly deserves to go out of business.

We hit Diho (or whatever it's called now) when we need to resupply for our Asian food pantry. Their sauces and tea selections alone are worth the trip. This place has an amazing variety of unique condiments to sate our tastes. If you want something besides the standard LaChoy-Kikkoman garbage, make the drive to Diho. Don't miss the little mall next door that offers traditional Asian "fast food". Sit with the locals and have a snack, you'll enjoy it.

The store's name is no longer Diho, perhaps a change in owners, but the grocery store is still selling the same stuff and quality has improved. The fish definitely looks fresher, they installed new refridgeration units and the overall appearance of the grocery is a lot cleaner than before. If you live around the Western burbs, this is the best grocery away from chinatown.

Pretty good Chinese market, and a solid size. As a vegan I particularly liked the freezer at the end of an aisle labeled "vegetarian" and filled with mock meats. They didn't have the super firm (i.e. not in a tub of water) tofu I like, but that's not the end of the world. I'd go back if I'm in the area. Perhaps if I go to the Asian food court nextdoor.

Whole Grain Fresh Market is the new name of this business (it's actually been this for over a year now I believe). Not really worth coming to for purchasing any Asian groceries as the selection is bad and prices high in comparison to markets like H-Mart, Chicago Foods or the various Chinatown markets. Might save a drive for those who live in the area though, but you pay the price in poor quality produce, not-so-fresh seafood, not-so-fresh baked goods (transported from the Chinatown bakeries) and higher prices. The only thing worth buying sometimes is their pre-made deli items; The soy-braised chickens or ducks can be purchased by the half and pre-cut. They also carry a few Chinese BBQ items like roast duck, char-siu and whole cuttlefish.
