These Are Downtown Disney’s New Restaurant Options, Including Porto’s | Eater LA

"I saw renderings of the incoming Parkside Market as part of Downtown Disney’s shift toward brand-name restaurants; the fast-casual complex will include Korean spot Seoul Sister, Sip & Sonder cafe, GG’s Chicken Soup, and a second-story bar area with strong midcentury modern design, and it will be operated by Levy Restaurants, which manages food and beverage operations at Crypto.com Arena and other large sports venues." - Matthew Kang

Google
Parkside has been serving North Park neighborhood for years. They are a part of the fabric that helped shaped community into what it is today. I recall the store in 1978 & they’re still here in 2023; conveniently serving the people. Kudos for longevity 🎩 👍🏾

Google
Great small grocery and meat market. Best bacon I’ve ever eaten. Quality meat market. This small neighborhood market has a good selection for such a tiny space. They saved us during the pandemic shortages with Toilet paper, pasta and quality meat selection.

Ted C.

Google
Always have just what you need. Meat counter is wonderful and the bacon is the best in town. Staff and owners are always super friendly. Great neighborhood market with fair prices.

Google
I absolutely love this place. They have a loyal customer in me I just wish if they had online food delivery that would make this place even more amazing. I will still give this place five star, but I hope they consider doing online delivery in the future.

Google
A neighborhood treasure, the owners/staff stock what we need and want for our day to day needs. A great meat counter, with hand made sausages 😋 👌, wine, craft brew, Kombucha and Seltzers, snacks, basics for household needs. We always come here first because they're great and we support local business!

Chloé K.

Google
We love this bodega! They have a great wine/beer/kombucha/drink selection. They also have a good selection of fresh vegetables and lots of vegetarian/vegan alternatives. It seems like they always have what we need, from pantry staples to snacks.

Jamie L.

Google
This is a great little local market; much smaller than a Barons or Ralphs, but large enough to have a small produce section and a meat counter. It's not fancy, but it's clean and well-organized, definitely one of the nicer independent markets in the North Park/ South Park area.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Great local full-service market! Friendly! Definitely a good place to find good groceries.

Yelp
At the last minute I was invited to a friends house. They told me to bring an appetiser to share. WTH???? I jokingly said I was going to bring saltines and tuna. But then I thought, I'll just come up to Parkside because they have everything and anything...especially in times when you're in a pinch. I walked in and saw the Bread & Cie rack, took the last rosemary loaf. Went to the deli section and found a roasted garlic soft cheese. I also grabbed some lemon hummus, and some marinated olives with feta. Brought it to their house and set it all up. One would think we were at some bougie restaurant! Again, this is one of those markets that has the things you need, when you need them. I've been in for onions, black beans, ice cream, etc. I need to come here more often!

Yelp
What a find in the neighborhood of North Park! This little market is a gem, particularly now while avoiding the crowds to buy just a few items. Today watermelon, tomatoes and grapefruit from the produce department. A mini Haagen-Dazs ice cream cup. Nature valley 6-pack breakfast bars (2for $4.) From the fresh meat case, Dietz and Watson pickles. Debit, credit and cash. Customer service. Free parking.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want to find the best bacon in San Diego, it's here at Parkside market! I absolutely love this market. Nice selection of beer and specialty grocery items.

Yelp
This is a nice neighborhood market and liquor store combination with a meat counter and fresh produce as well (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/parkside-market-san-diego?select=ajVpQcCs21P471C-PRbEsg#ajVpQcCs21P471C-PRbEsg). I stopped in to grab a lotto, so produce, and a bottle of water. Before picking up my items, I stopped over at the meat counter and there I learned that they carry USDA Choice cuts steaks and they conduct their cutting the steaks. You can also customize your cuts. You like a 1" cut, they will deliver. The carry the full spread of beers and wines (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/parkside-market-san-diego?select=ajVpQcCs21P471C-PRbEsg#YkOPlNVtwn9441ekKODKnA), dry goods, and those little items you need every once in a while wood, chips, and Bread and Cie of all things. The large hass avocados were .99 cents each, the small bottle of water was about a buck, and the lotto too of course. They butcher was a nice gentlemen and informative, but the guy at the register was just okay. Perhaps not as friendly as he should of been. Nice store..

Tori A.

Yelp
Always a good experience!! Staff is friendly and helpful. They carry a wide range of products for a small market.

Yelp
Dear Lord, for the love of you and all that is holy DO NOT let the hipsters, scenesters, beer do's and other sycophants to this area where I have haunted for over 20 years force this place out of business. The last mofo thing we need is another "East Coaster, "I live in Seattle so I know what's best" a holes ruin the last market that has everything you need in San Diego. I love this place, i have for over 20 years. Great place to get random sh*t for your house and your family. I have cooked entire dinners based on the food and drink I have purchased from this Market. Friendly service, nice butcher counter and deli, great wine and cheese selection and hairbrushes, condoms, cleaning supplies and spices. You could theoretically live in this Store for months without missing anything. As a half German, they once in a while carry my crazy hazel nut cracker and chocolate treats, stuff you can only find in a German specialty store which by the way, racist San Diego doesn't have any of ...what's with the hate on the Germans San Diego? Just kidding. Leave this place alone, if you don't like it, go somewhere else. We locals... really locals not transplants from every where else in the last five years love this place. Gabe and his staff are so sweet and wonderful, thank you for what you do. Now could you all please bring back the Korbel Rose???? No one drinks that nasty Asti Spumante' Rose .. come on
google avatar

Trudy S.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood market as it has fresh produce and a meat counter. The meats are always nice and fresh and the folks working there are always helpful and glad to see you. There is a lot packed in, including refrigerated section and a good liquor selection.

Paige V.

Yelp
always friendly, always welcoming, and i can get my last minute staples here too. i love coming here and seeing the familiar faces! thanks for the amazing service and fresh goodies
google avatar

Lola Z.

Yelp
Parkside is great! They have all of your basic necessities. Service is always friendly. I usually call over to see if they have what I need and most times they do.
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Just big enough (5 different options of pure maple syrup) to serve your needs and keep you from a drive to Vons. The full meat selection often has good quality cuts of meat. Just cute and friendly enough to enjoy coming. Just cheap enough to not feel like you're getting ripped off. A great place to have in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
I can't believe a small business has better prices than Costco. The service was really nice and the sandwiches a what I die for. If you are in the area the sandwiches are what you should go there for. The sandwiches are located at the deli. It is like an in and out for sandwiches.
google avatar

Ellie B.

Yelp
Best neighborhood spot for pickups when you need something quality in a pinch! I buy salsa here every week and they have the best price on it compared to everywhere else it is sold. Great beer and wine selection too. Friendly crew. NBA games on usually during evening check outs

Katelyn A.

Yelp
I just found about this store, it is amazing! The workers are very friendly and are always glad to see you. I also love the sandwiches. If your ever craving a sandwich, go to Parkside market! The nuts are also very good and tasty. It's also very organized and clean store for a liqour store. My favorite part is they carry everything that you can imagine!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Last night I realized I needed ground pork. I sent my husband down to Parkside to see what they had and they took a pork loin and ground it for us and gave it to us for a great price. I always forget some ingredient when I start to cook and somehow they have everything I need. They are also super friendly and give treats to dogs. We love this neighborhood grocery store!
google avatar

Adam V.

Yelp
Until I'd been there I thought places like Parkside Market only existed in old black-and-white television shows. It's like a mini-Vons, only without any of the technological advances that grocery stores have adopted in the past 20 years: The front door does not automatically slide open when you walk up, the register does not magically spit out coin change, and if there is a Starbucks in there they keep it very well hidden. And the grocer, oh man, the grocer is the best part! A tall old man with a white mustache who says things like, "The rain smells good tonight." Sooo Leave it to Beaver. AV

Yelp
I would say that this store is convenient. In fact, I might even say that this is a convenience store. Both 3 times I have been here, haz been awesome. Parkside Market has Beer, Wine, and Instant Krazy Glue!!! Who else smells themed party night? #1 A friend of mine went to an unmanned register and stood there for a long while before she realized no people = no service. All the while another friend and I stood outside in the darkness eating a bowl popcorn with hot sauce on it in the rain. We realized that we watching Clerks 3... wait, that hasn't been made yet has it? #2 Got something that I don't recall. Lets, for argument sake call it, toenail clippers, and or a box of shotgun shells and or toenail clippers and Coca-Cola. This store is really close to me. So close that it is convenient.

Yelp
I'm with the reviewers 5 star club for Parkside. It is about 1 mile from my home and they do have great stuff. Don't drive by and by thinking- oh, that place probably has e cigarettes and candy bars. Gabe (the owner) keeps a good inventory of specialty foods. From gluten free pastas, crafts beers...an extensive wine selection...ok- I'll just keep listing; Bread & Cie, Patron, Filet Mignon Nutella, Olives, Cheese, pass the fresh mozzarella please Rib Eyes and Baby Racks Parkside Foods got cho Backs!

Erin D.

Yelp
Parkside is the epitome of a quality neighbourhood market. They are always ready to cut up the beef bones with the band saw to make my doggies happy, check to make sure that the turkey is sliced to the diameter that I would like, remember what my shopping preferences are, listen to what I suggest that they carry, and generally make known that they appreciate my patronage. I highly recommend this market, and it is an asset to our local businesses.
google avatar

Adam O.

Yelp
There are few places like Parkside Market left in San Diego. They have almost everything you might need to make a great meal, and by that I mean the kinds of fresh produce, specialty cheeses, funky peppers, and the like that you won't see at most liquor stores that masquerade as grocers. They have fantastic sandwiches (ready to go) made each morning for five bucks. Their deli meats are terrific and very reasonably priced. Great beer selection as well. Just a roots, old-school, true neighborhood market. Lastly, they donate generously to the local elementary school (McKinley), including providing snacks and drinks for the students during their Jog-a-thon. I simply love this place!
google avatar

Marc A.

Yelp
The absolute favorite part about Parkside is that it's one block from my house. I also love supporting all the businesses in my neighborhood. Over the past few months this little market has gotten better and better. Their selection has grown and the market looks ever so clean these days. You can even request items and they will get them for you. I asked for pine nuts and they got me pine nuts. I asked for vegan chorizo and well... Plus the meat is fresh! Check em out NP.

Yelp
Parkside Market has become my family's favorite corner store. The produce section and deli are amazing. How many corner stores have a variety of goat cheese selections to choose from? This is the only place in San Diego that I've found to carry the type of curry paste I enjoy as well. The staff is friendly and my husband and I go there at least 2-3 times per week. Amazing.

Bianca F.

Yelp
Amazing store! I just moved near Park Side Market, I've been here a couple times before staff is amazing! Love the sandwich's.
google avatar

Betsy H.

Yelp
My favorite go-to place when I need a couple of ingredients or inspiration for dinner. The selection is so varied and the prices are usually comparable to my usual grocery stores (Henrys, TJ's). I can almost always find that missing ingredient--even fresh ginger! The staff are so pleasant and accomodating. Best of all, there are a number of gluten-free items available! I shop here at least twice a week. Definitely a bonus for our neighborhood.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
Love this shop! They always have everything i need. And if they don't, they'll order it and have it next time i visit. Great service, amazing fresh breads, and lots of vegan goodies :)
google avatar

Judi W.

Yelp
I don't live in the area, but I work here, so I stop in when I need something. Last time I visited, a girl around 9 or 10 yrs. old was at the deli counter, looking for a sandwich. She wanted one on a bun, like a hamburger bun. The deli guy took her to the packaged bread aisle, had her choose a bun, and made her a custom sandwich!! You just don't see service like that these days!! Awesomeness!!!!!

Yelp
A diesel engine hums its' way down the alley as the children next door compose an equally nauseating symphony of superfluous morning racket. The western wind adds metaphorical insult to injury as it blows the vintage 77' beige blinds violently against the wall. A shoeless boy sleeps restlessly on the brown velveteen couch, moments from consciousness. Though his appearance and actions of the prior evening could peg him for a boy of 17, this unfortunate ne'er do well is much older in years less wisdom. As the midday sun and late August humidity declare war on the unconscious, the boy sits up furiously and gasps for air. Disoriented as the day he was born, he looks about this foreign room with bewilderment and alarm. It is similar to his home but everything is backwards, the furniture is different from his own, as is everything else. Was this a dream? No, he had passed out in the neighbor's apartment. He scanned his memory for the events leading up to this rude awakening but realized the latter half of the evening had been relegated to the subconscious. Spinning from dehydration and lack of REM sleep, this testament to temperance stood and made for the exit, less be seen by his equally guilty neighbors. The door to his apartment had been left ajar during the night. The general décor was intact but it was obvious that merriment had occurred on a much larger scale than he could immediately recall. Wounded soldiers studded the counters and table tops like a perverse version of connect the dots, reading drink me... Even in his current state of despair, he knew better than to drink these sirens of libation. This called for a trip to Parkside Market for some fresh hair of the dog. It was Sunday, the Lord's Day, a day of rest, and a day that would live in infamy to those who lived on the west end of his apartment complex. The boy saunters down the alley beneath the midday sun, an indignant grin plastered over his disheveled face. He knew inside that this was the wrong way to remedy the current state of affairs but it was also the easiest and the most fun. He enters Parkside Market, a neighborhood grocery store known for its fine selection of choice meats and organic produce, though these items were currently of no concern. Michael, the twenty year old store clerk greeted the boy with a chuckle. Michael: HAHAHA! Did you have fun last night? Boy: Let me ask my neighbors and get back to you on that. Michael: Oh, one of those. Boy: Let me just say I woke up on my neighbors couch without a clear understanding of how or why. Michael: Damn, must have been a good time. I see you're here for a little hair of the dog. Boy: (Puts down anonymous undisclosed amount of beer) It's Sunday, duh. Michael: (Swipes Card) Oh Shit, our card terminal isn't working. Boy: (Face turns to the epitome of sadness) Aww fuck... Michael: Don't worry about it man, you can pay for this tomorrow. Boy: You my friend are a gentleman and a scholar, a true renaissance man. Michael: Hope you feel better. Boy: I already do. Fin Note: Parkside Market it awesome! They are the reason I never have food in my refrigerator. Anything I need is always available right next door. They are a pillar of the community and a testament to the fact that there are still some pretty rad old school businesses in North Park.

Yelp
LOVE that this place is just down the street from my house! Great wine selection and always has the last minute things I need for dinner!
google avatar

Desiree G.

Yelp
This place is great. The people are really Nice and it's 2 blocks from my house which I love. If I need something last minute I can always walk there and grab whatever I need.
google avatar

Ariza S.

Yelp
If I lived in San Diego (which may be soon because I'm in love with this city) this would by my neighborhood stop for beer, a fantastic sandwich and basic grocery items my pantry may be short of. I adore the owners and workers here, they give great service, always friendly and make some damn good sandwiches. I've tried their Reuben and I wanted to lick the wrapper it was in. They have a large selection of chips to pair with your sandwich as well and I'm a fan of all the beers they carry. Since I DON'T live here please support these guys by stopping by! I want to see this place still thrive when I come back.
google avatar

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
When visiting the area, we stopped by for a few groceries, thinking this was just a little convince store, but they have quite a large selection. We were able to get everything we needed for a complete and healthy meal. The prices are more than reasonable and the staff are very helpful! I was very impressed with this store.
google avatar

Don S.

Yelp
Ah...my refrigerator at the end of the block. Walter, his family, and the rest of the crew make the place neighborly and friendly. Don't go there if you don't like friendly. It's not Whole Foods, by why would you want it to be. It's just a great neighborhood market. Good meat, good produce, and more often then not it's got whatever else you want at a fair price.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
What a great find, just a few steps from our door. They have EVERYTHING you need in this little market paradise. And BOOZE! Sweet staff too. I'd love to give them a great interior makeover, but for the goods, they got 'em...in spades. GO THERE. You'll get what you need.
google avatar

Andy Z.

Yelp
It is always nice to have a solid local market. Park side definitely lives up to that role.
google avatar

Gila Z.

Yelp
Love parkside's friendly staff and mom and pop feel. Great selection of items from hummus to lactose free milk. If you want it- they got it. And the best part is- they have an extensive wine selection and bread and cie goodies (baguettes, challahs, and on Saturdays- cinnamon rolls)! So Convenient!

Courtney S.

Yelp
Good prices and very convenient for when you need something last minute. They have a little bit of everything and actually have some really unique food items you wouldn't expect to find at a store like this. They also have a great vegetarian/vegan selection. Friendly staff as well. This place definitely has a good locals/neighborhood vibe to it.
google avatar

Shannon P.

Yelp
Parkside is the perfect neighborhood, family-run market. I can find all the basics here for last-minute weeknight meals, as well as specialty extras that you wouldn't typically expect from a corner store (e.g., Burt's Bees cosmetics, pomegranate green tea, Bread and Cie bakery goods, vegan condiments). They also sell fresh vegetables, meats, homemade soups, and sandwiches. The store owners and workers are extremely friendly and always have a big smile for you. Prices are the same or lower than a larger, chain grocery store.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Thank GOD this store is open at 7:30am on Sundays! I ran out of half and half for my coffee and was able to slug over there in pajamas with my girls and get some.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
The staff at Parkside market make my me, my wife and our dog feel like family (they like Boomer better than us, but I would too). I have been shopping there for five years and they have always strived to be the best at what they do. Recent improvements to the produce selection, deli meats, and organic dairy selection have eliminated the need for the weekly Trader Joe's or Whole foods run. They have increased the quality of beer and wine too. Jane, Mike, Gabe and the whole crew keeps the legendary corner market alive in the spirit Walter began with. We spend more than we need to buying locally from them. But as others have mentioned it is nice to store all my food there and run up the street when I need it. Parkside Market: North Park's remote pantry.
google avatar

EV P.

Yelp
Based on their guacamole - which was orgasmic, 5 stars. I've lived in the neighborhood 7 years and have never been in, but a friend shared the guac from paradise that he bought last weekend & I was instantly in love. Can't wait to explore & see what other treasures await!
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
They are super friendly, have every price-point of food you can imagine (they have the cheap / bad for you stuff right next to the organic, no high-fructose-corn-syrup, no partially-hydrogenated-soybean-oil stuff. The 'higher end' / organic stuff they offer is not very much more expensive then the cheap / low quality stuff either. They have a great beer selection, will order anything you request, and are just really helpful! It's only 3 blocks away from me, so it's perfect for after work / last minute items. I hope the opening of Fresh & Easy 3 blocks away from me in the other direction doesn't hurt their business too much. Parkside Market has been there for many years, the building looks like it is from the 30s or 40s. I hope it is here for many more years!

Yelp
One of those nice areas and wooden build stores and went there with my dad or brothers and sometimes mother in law and sister or (half-sister) and it was those days to visit the market once a week or twice or when young to take a walk down the alley and check the other stores....there when going to the Parkside market and buying soemhting or it was usually my dad to get something to eat for a meal or somekind of drink and when they had sold lotto tickets too he had the purpose to buy some too but I had not went much a lot but it was too that I was staying for the summer only duirng my young youth years there in town or in San Diego areas "mostly in National City" areas and because we had visit there before going to TJ too to visit the family there for one day or two days to one week usually and my dad had a job there too but he had friends or former friends that use too live around there where they lived and pay their rent and go to the stores there from gas stations to markets or.....! My dad's name "Carlos" it was nice to stay around there for the summer and sometimes for the school two week off during the winter and Christmas ..! Now or today I had not met many people since then...and too because I dont live in town or went there since..or once or twice during the whole year or once it been over a decade I had went once or twice from 93-1999 !

Andy F.

Yelp
Been going to Parkside since Walter and Sal were running the joint. The new crew is doing an excellent job as well. The butcher/deli counter has been, and still is, absolutely superb (the bacon...and, my lord, the Italian sausage...), and I'll be damned if the new crew didn't make major improvements on the produce. The pre-washed spinach and spring mix is key, and if they keep bringing in those beautiful Brussels Sprouts, I will keep buying and devouring them. Ralph's, Von's and Albertson's can go lick a toad's eyelid.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
We really love this market. We live in the area and we were so happy to be able to get fresh meat and produce and the owner is very nice. He helped me with everything I needed.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This place is like Mary Poppins' purse--they have the most random things that we need--enchilada sauce? check. Powdered sugar? yes. Kendamas because ours just broke. On the wall by the door. I routinely call and send my kids in to pick up romaine lettuce and half and half and they've always been helpful and friendly. Also, the artwork on the wall in the alley is way cool.

Veronica S.

Yelp
This place is a great little neighborhood market. They have a deli with fresh guac and ceviche on the weekends. My husband loves their thick sliced bacon. They even have a little produce and always have the last minute ingredients I need for dinner. I love that they carry so many local brands! Great beer and wine selection too. Also, great service! Everyone is really friendly and helpful.

Pamela B.

Yelp
If you already haven't, try Parkside Market's deli soups. Gabe (business owner) makes potato leek or pork with vegetables or some other variation almost daily, particularly in Winter. These soups remind me of my mother's cooking--not too fancy, just hearty, flavorful, and delicious. He serves up the soup with soda crackers or with some slices of hearty baguette. Compared to other places that sell homemade soups, he serves more and charges less. Soup usually seems available around noon, but you may want to call ahead to see when he will be preparing it.

Randy H.

Yelp
I stopped in here just to grab a newspaper but after looking around I bought some other stuff because the prices weren't that bad and it was a nice little store that wasn't that little really. It was a nice change from the liquor stores that often aren't very friendly and some of the craft beer prices were actually better. Definitely my favorite store in visiting the area.

Denise A.

Yelp
Wow the cashier must be having a bad day! I also experienced the son of the owner today, and I have got to say, it prompted me to write a review. I have been going there for years, but not anymore! I was treated horribly by this guy, with rude comments and flippant attitude. I go to buy things, not be treated bad. He needs to be somewhere not around people. Not going there anymore.
