"Denver Avenue may be Kenton’s “main street,” but the idyllic Kenton Park is the true heart of the neighborhood. As the name suggests, Parkside features patio dining overlooking the leafy adjoining park, and in cold-weather months, the bar offers the casual coziness of a friend’s living room. Local microbrews are the go-to here for most regulars, but the full bar also offers reasonably priced rotating house cocktails — and mocktails. The hunger-crushing corned beef sandwich, with a whopping half-pound of the house cured meat, is a standout." - Nathan Williams

"Friendly neighborhood tavern Parkside isn’t letting the pandemic keep it from providing a special Valentine’s Day dinner for two. The straightforward but satisfying menu includes two strip steaks (to cook at home), twice-baked potatoes, two side salads, two chocolate cheesecake cupcakes, and a bottle of rosé bubbles, all for $65. Orders can be placed by calling in, and must be made by 7 p.m. on January 12." - Alex Frane

Awesome little place. Food is well presented. Super chill owners running it. Answered all my questions. I starred with one taco. It tasted like Holy Goodness, so I ordered another one. Neat and clean spot. I will definitely go back. Thanks Sv Rhiannon ❤️☮️🌍~🏴‍☠️

It's been a couple years since i was here last, but it's the first stop on my way to the car show at PIR. Indoor and outdoor seating, good food, nice people, relaxing experience. We had 6 people in our group and we sat outside. All our meals were wonderful and no-one was disappointed. Keep this place busy and in business!

Google
Definitely more of a bar vibe than an eatery but we only got food. The homemade bologna sandwich was wonderful and the macaroni that accompanied it was great, too. Friendly service and great food - can't ask for much else!

We came here on a cold Sunday morning and the owner of this place was so nice to us! It was cold outside so he made sure we were warm by bringing us a heater! We ordered some beers, Mac and cheese, hot dog and Fingerling potatoes, everything came out hot and fresh and absolutely delicious! We were contemplating between this place and a coffee shop and I’m glad we picked this one! They are located next to a park and have a lot of outdoor seating areas. It’s all covered so you can hide here from the rain. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in the neighborhood!

Google
What a sweet spot in Kenton!! Our first time here today with our 2yo and it couldn’t have been better or more delicious. Good whiskey selections, too. House made hot dogs and the corned beef was 🤌 10/10 would recommend.

I was on the way to the nearby Twilight Theater to see Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" and found that I had to eat beforehand. The Parkside is a MUST revisit for me! The standard menu is fine but the chalk menu between the bar and the cooking area is where it's at. The staff is friendly and not too in your face - a plus for me. The laughter by other patrons was so wonderful to hear. AND the music playlist tonight ! ... wow; as I write this review, Siouxie & the Banshee's "Dear Prudence" and proper Cocteau Twins beats enhanced this early autumn visit to the Parkside. BUT, when my food arrived, I was humbled by its presentation. And, it's taste? I ordered the Brick Chicken. Lightly salted, not too buttery potatoes, and the chicken thigh fat was trimmed with care rendering a genuinely home feeling base on the palate. Come here. Be yourself. Laugh. Eat. [ .... and maybe you will, like me and others, LOVE the mushroom gravy on the "Brick Chicken" ]

Google
Excellent pimento cheese and bread! The most delicious Corned beef sandwich I've ever had. The Thai Colada was great and beneath heaven with gin was fantastic! The ceaser salad was not very good but the lady who helped us was fun and friendly, sorry I missed her name but she could use a bonus to split with the chef in my opinion 😉 we got to sit outside by a park on a nice day so that was a plus!

Google
The food here is elite. So far, we’ve had the taco, tuna melt, and the big shroomin’ and wow, just wow. My partner doesn’t know this yet, but we’ll be trying everything on the menu.

Jeff A.

Yelp
Love this spot. Great cocktails, fried bologna delicious, rotating deviled eggs yum STROGANOFF, keep bringing that back!!

Wendy S.

Yelp
I love my little neighborhood bar. Not only is it quaint and cozy the food is outstanding. The tuna melt skirt leaves you wanting to come back for it again and.again. They have cute stalls out front. Welcome dogs. Have games and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a jewel in kenton.

Dave D.

Yelp
My son and I enjoyed this place. They had nice outdoor seating, with a window to order from. Service was friendly. We had a few things, and the mac n cheese with pork was probably the best.

Yelp
Good little corner cafe/bar locally owned/family-owned by very nice folks and in a great location in Kenton. Inside and outside seating and service. If you're sitting outside you can order at the little side window under the awning. Outside seating includes individual covered/sheltered table pods for both privacy and to escape the rain as well as uncovered seating at both tables, benches, and a bar. They have a great little menu with seasonal selections and favorites to fill you up and they also offer take out food. Check them out. LGBTQ friendly and safe and friendly for single women looking to unwind in comfort with a glass of wine, cocktail, beer or soft drink. Group and family dining as well. This establishment has been going strong for a few years now. I appreciate the service they provide to this little area. Chill vibe and friendly staff just a block from the main drag, a block from the Max Denver Station and with a lovely view directly across from Kenton Park.

Yelp
recommended by a friend, this was amazing. house-made hot dog? YES PLEASE. i didn't even need extra mustard. staff are absolutely 100% lovely, too - just icing on the cake.

Mike R.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood place with great food, full bar, and friendly people. I had the deviled eggs, and the grilled bologna sandwich. Both were fantastic.Must try!!!

Oleg K.

Yelp
I had a wonderful date night at Parkside restaurant last night. I was an absolute fan of their corned beef sandwich, and the cabbage soup with bacon was out of this world! Our waiter was nice and friendly, too. Great place to go on a weeknight.

Julie L.

Yelp
BEST Potato Salad I've had in my entire life!! I placed a group order for lunch takeout and they had fun labeling the sandwiches - not to mention all of the food was DELICIOUS. I will certainly come here again!

Dick W.

Yelp
One of our favorite North Portland spots for a friendly reception and hearty food. Check the soup special, it's always delicious. Likewise the special cocktail. Come to think of it, it's all really good!

Liz C.

Yelp
Fantastic neighborhood gem. Every neighborhood needs a place like this one. Small, intimate yet a bit of a casual pub atmosphere. it was a cold evening and three of us. sat at the table near the fireplace.Small menu that packs a punch and great craft cocktails. Had a unique drink with Effen Yuzu citrus vodka and St Germaine liquor. Not sure what else. To die for yet very sophisticated. Service was on point and very friendly. I'll go back for sure!

Alexander S.

Yelp
Parkside gets a rare 5 stars from me. This is the type of place that the US needs more of - a cozy local establishment that is family friendly, where the bartenders know your name, and the food is spectacular. It has quiz nights on Wednesdays, and a special "first come first serve" meal on Sundays. Play board games by the fire on cold wet nights, or take in the fresh air and park view when the garage doors are open on a summer day. They have 2 TVs for the must-see game, but this place is more about connecting with friends. For food, keep an eye on whatever specials are going. But if you want guaranteed menu winners: brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, BLT, tuna melt. All sublime.

Steven B.

Yelp
THE CHEERS OF LOCAL RESTAURANTS! What a gem!!! Friendly, professional service combined with some truly creative and outstanding food, good beer selection, quite reasonable prices, comfortable location and a light filled yet cozy ambiance (fireplace too) is winning combination for customers. Food Review Nuts and Popcorn snack; a no brainer, have some, it's less than a beer! Shepherd's Pie: all the flavor but not as heavy as traditional Shepherd's Pie, filling and satisfying on those rainy, chilled days Smashed Fingerlings: You can't eat just one, soft, flavorful and layers of goodness Roast Beef Dip: my wife, a professional cooking instructor, said this is about the best she has ever had and kept cooing about the quality and flavor Fried Bologna Sandwich: Are you kidding me?! This is not your mom's bologna you had as a kid. This is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, of any kind. They make their own bologna and keep it simple with shredded lettuce and mustard on a high quality toasted ciabatta. This could flip the average vegetarian. It's that good. Overall Really a great little place for all of the above reasons and more. Great food and prices, great atmosphere driven by friendly service, light, fireplace, pleasant views and some seriously good music of several genres. Highly recommended.

Ari L.

Yelp
Such a great little neighborhood bar. Every neighborhood should have a place like this. Fresh air from the large windows, a beautiful view of the park across the street, and a good selection of cocktails. They have a limited amount of food, but its all tasty. I personally like the big ass meat platter. Make sure to check what the special is, because they know what they are doing in the kitchen. I'll be back for sure.

Lori P.

Yelp
A little neighborhood jam... I've been coming here for quite some time to meet up with my good friend in the 'hood. Today, service was exceptional. The radicchio Cesar is fantastic as well as the cocktails. The view of Kenton park across the street lovely as well. The also have fantastic ciders on tap. Wednesday is the Kenton farmers market so I strongly encourage you to hit up both

Kelsey K.

Yelp
Happy Re-Opening day Parkside! It looks incredible inside and the food tastes even better than before the remodel! Glad we live so close by and can keep supporting you all! Looking forward so sitting on the patio in summer!!!

Yelp
Parkside is a decent place to grab food/drinks, but I wouldn't say that I'm necessarily a fan. Although I appreciated the fireplace, artfully placed decorations, and the array of board games available to play, I just thought this place was a bit too cramped to warrant anything over a three star rating. It also seems that there's a few kinks at Parkside that need to be worked out. For instance, one of the workers had the responsibility of being both a bartender and a server. This isn't too big of an issue, but it's noteworthy to mention that because of this setup, it took a while for my group's food and drinks to come out. I was impressed by the Parkside Plate ($12), which came with two types of cured meat, two types of cheeses, apple slices, grapes, pickled stuff, and a flavorful berry jam. I'm a huge fan of charcuterie boards, but I often find myself disappointed by the portions and the high price. For the price, this is a pretty well-put together board. If I return, I'd definitely order this again. I also shared a chicken ciabatta sandwich ($9) with a side of potato salad. The potato salad was nice and creamy, and the sandwich itself tasted high quality. The tomatoes in it tasted extremely fresh and were packed with a bunch of flavor. Although tasty, I wouldn't necessarily order this again. Overall, my experience at Parkside was A-OK, but I doubt that I'll find myself craving to revisit.

Gordon F.

Yelp
Stopped by here on the way home from work to meet up with some friends. Love the way they have set up the ordering window and seating in the street. Felt safe and welcoming on a sunny summer day. Cocktails were bomb, food was bomb, and the folks are super super nice. I will definitely be back next week for more sandwiches in the sunshine. Thanks you guys!

Marc Lee R.

Yelp
One of my go to spots in North Portland. You can't go to Kenton and skip the Parkside. Causal environment. Fireplace for the winter months.

Meg B.

Yelp
Broccoli on nachos-No thanks. Parkside margarita-I'll take 5. We also loved the bologna melt. Laid back, friendly, approachable staff who check in as needed and go-with-the-flow. A great spot for the Kenton neighborhood that is cozy and quaint.

Emma T.

Yelp
I love how close Parkside is to our house! My husband and I went there for dinner and I got mac and cheese (no additions) and the house rose (standard in price and quality) my husband got the pot roast sandwhich which he said was delicious just wish it came with fries or something for the price that it was (13). Parkside has seating both inside and out. If I were to guess, maybe 10 tables inside plus bar seating. They also have boardgames next to the fireplace. They also let dogs inside.

Michael F.

Yelp
Our favorite place in town. Love the hot dogs, the macaroni and cheese (with collards and pork ideally), and the specials.

Meggan D.

Yelp
Parkside is the best!!! The people. The food is beyond incredible. The ghhhattdamn good drinks are so good good good!

caryn g.

Yelp
love this little spot in our hood. service is always friendly, food always spot on, great beer choices. our pup likes coming here too.

Joey G.

Yelp
As I sit at my table by the fireplace, viewing the beautiful Kenton park, I can say I love this place. Amazing environment, atmosphere and food. Had kale and bacon soup, Duck summer sausage.

Michele G.

Yelp
Best food best service best view of Kenton Park couldn't ask for anything more. I love this place!!

Maurice T.

Yelp
A friend of mine introduced me to this spot a few weeks ago and Ive been back at least once a week since then. Great food, great drinks, great staff. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend it. The Carolina Mac is my absolute favorite. Comfort food is an understatement with that one. Do yourself a favor and stop by parkside!

Bruce F.

Yelp
This is the best bar in Kenton by far! The bartender Jeff was welcoming and funny. I got the NY Weiner and can't stop thinking about. I wish I got a pic for this post but ate it too quick

T D.

Yelp
What a difference a good ownership can make! Solid selection of rotating taps & Pfriem IPA is always on now. Surprisingly good grub for a place so small. The peeps that work here are really nice too!

Eric W.

Yelp
Great little spot with good cocktails, a nice atmosphere, and friendly staff. I decided to write this review because of their amazing Parkside Plate. Generous amount of bread, cheese, candies nuts, sweet jam, two types of salami, amazing picked veggies, and a variety of fruit. It's the best "variety plate" I've had in Portland. $14 and easily fills two people. DO's: Get the Parkside Plate, come in on a sunny day, bring your dog. DON'T: Not get the Parkside Plate.

Tammi M.

Yelp
A hidden gem in the neighborhood! If your inspiration came from a place in Texas, hats off to you and thanks for bringing the inspiration to Portland. We have too few spots in North Portland and you're a great addition. I felt I needed to add my 2 cents after reading that catty review...

Mercedes B.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for a chill, cozy drink sitting by the fireplace. Great drinks, awesome staff, good food. Can't go wrong going here!

David V.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere. I can't wait to try their pastrami sandwich special! Blazers games are on and they have delicious drinks as well.

Jo Ann J.

Yelp
Really great ambiance. Staff is knowledgeable and polite. Good selection of local beers on tap. They make much of their own syrups, infusions and cordials that go into drinks such as the Mandarin Caipirinha and ginger mojitos. Digging the vibe

Linsel G.

Yelp
Delicious beverages, simple but tasty food, and a friendly vibe. What more could you ask for from a local pub? Sure, the seating can feel a little cramped when it's busy, and sure, if you're not into sports you may feel out of place among the blazers and timbers fans should they be playing on the television. And sure you might find the room crowded during Wednesday night's trivia, but the trivia master is independent from the 5-million trivia organizations that plague this town's bar scene, and it's consistent and fun. Plus, on off-nights or during their less populated lunchtimes, there is plenty of opportunity to pull a board game from their impressive collection, and enjoy some company with friends. By the way, I'm so glad that the owners "stole" the bar's name from some rando in Austin, Texas, rather than name it after the fact that is it literally beside a park. Texans have to get over themselves. :)

J R.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot. Good people. Take a break from day drinking and walk over to the park for a nap. Good times were had by all.

Hudson P.

Yelp
Really great food and nice cozy atmosphere. Great service too.

Kelsie V.

Yelp
A little gem in the Kenton neighborhood. Parkside sits at the cornder of N. Willis and Brandon off Kenton's main strip, right across from Kenton Park. I can tell it's obviously a neighborhood spot with regulars and families. I've had a couple drinks here, but this was the first time for a meal. Every time I have walked in the smells from the food they are preparing are very inviting. Often, it's like pre-Thanksgiving dinner aroma in the air. This alone is welcoming. Now come the staff and their drink selection. The service is friendly and warm. I had two pints of Victory Golden Ale. It was pilsner in color and lightly hopped. They rotate about six taps and a cider. The server and the person responsible for preparing food took turns on helping each other out delivering drinks and such. Teamwork! I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, it was featured for $9. The ingredients were pretty basic - but the crust was lite and puffy and the consistency of the pie was solid. Gravy, Peas, Carrots, Chicken Pieces. The side salad was nice, too. All served on the same plate. A lite dose of vinaigrette. The space is cozy. A bar top with about 5 chairs and seating inside and out. It's not a sports bar, but has two crisp monitors for TV/Sports ---- which most people appreciate. A humble winner here!

Kenneth F.

Yelp
It just so happens that my friends pick me up in SF and went here in Portland. We are currently celebrating our group anniversary and we think about having a bar hopping for the celebration. One of the Pub that we went is here since we saw a good review for this place. But why is that the food are good and the drinks are good but the SERVICE and STAFF is awful! My friend accidentally an asian is with us and when she ordered a drink and call for a staff she was ignored and when she stand up and went to the cashier the guy next to the cashier just pushed her. We went into a trouble that we want to call the police for the staff rudeness. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PUB IF YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY. BUT IF YOU WANT TO ARGUE WITH A RUDE GUY AND MAKE YOUR DAY WORST THEN YOU ARE WELCOME TO GO HERE!

Chris S.

Yelp
Our local pub and is amazing. The owners really made this place what it is. Staff are fun and funny. Joel has raised the food to a another level/planet. Erica creates unbelievable cocktails. Cozy during the fall/winter and great outdoor seating in the summer. So glad this place is nearby.

James J.

Yelp
One of my favorite little gems in Kenton. Good food and drink. Great view overlooking the park, warm and cozy. Nice fire place for cold, rainy days and a great patio to soak up some beautiful sunshine. We will definitely be coming back.

Liz K.

Yelp
Perfect hangout spot. Loved the decor, especially the unique table tops. Owner was friendly and helpful. Had their veggie burger which might be the best I've ever had. Can't wait to go back when we visit.

Bryan L.

Yelp
This might be a bit biased because its at 3 minute walk from my doorstep to beer tap at this location. I truly wish the new owners all the success this place can give them. The food is delicious, the service is beyond friendly and the beer selection is perfect. I hope the neighborhood folks realize this gem has a new life to it. I look forward to spending afternoons there this summer and sitting by the fire when the temps drop.

Jazz H.

Yelp
I loved the atmosphere of this place. The staff was friendly and had great suggestions. We got our drinks promptly and ordered sandwiches shortly after. The roll up door is a great touch for sunny evenings and it feels laid back which is sometimes hard to find in this new and trendy portland foodie environment. The food was great and portions were good for the reasonable prices. The one and only reason I have to give it four stars instead of five is their lack of menu. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a small menu, it helps the kitchen pump out the best quality food, but this place feels more like a laid back restaurant than a quirky bar so I would of hoped for two or three main course options, other than sandwiches.

Lisa H.

Yelp
Had Valentine's Dinner tonight and it was outstanding! Food was on point, service was friendly, the brut rosé they chose to serve with dinner was super yum. They served a wild mushroom tart, black cod with dried cranberries and chicories, and for the main entree- PRIME RIB, which literally put me in bliss. And of course cheesecake at the end. Killer. Cute, cozy, and comfortable. Highly recommend!

Mallory B.

Yelp
We moved three blocks down from Parkside Pub and it is the first bar we have visited in our new neighborhood. I have been twice, and both times I was extremely happy with the experience. First off, the food is solid. I had a grilled cheese here both times, and I was having a love affair with it each time. The pulled pork is okay and not something I'd order again, but the grilled sandwich with ham and dijon is tasty and the side salad with the house vinagerette tops it all off nicely. Second, the location is awesome. Right across from Kenton Park and down the way from the main Kenton drag. We took our pooch over to the park to get out some of her pent up puppy energy, then brought her over to Parkside so we could grab a bite and a drink. It was perfect! Third, the ginger beer cocktails blow my mind. I have had three so far, and I have liked each almost as much as the next. The gin and rum ginger cocktails rank as my favorites so far, with the tequila one close behind. The whiskey one looks delicious and I plan to try it next. This place is great, with bartenders who are knowledgable, helpful and friendly. Check it out if you're in the area!

Adam W.

Yelp
Great spot. Good small menu and specials, affordable, friendly staff and owners, and a cool laid back atmosphere. Plenty of board games to rock as well

Taylor D.

Yelp
With having been recently purchased, this place went from acceptable to awesome. Before, I went to support local business and grab a pint or something. Now it's a place I'd like to come to more often. They've changed up the atmosphere a bit. New artwork, paint, more seating, a more refined and local menu, and actual pint glasses (not mason jars). I'm happy to have these two brothers doing business nearby, I'm excited to visit more often, and truly hope they succeed!

Mike D.

Yelp
House sitting for my folks and this looked like a solid lunch spot. Menu is small, but when I got here I realized it's just one dude cooking and serving so it makes sense. Got the cheese/meat plate, Mac and cheese, BLT, and two bowls of soup. I'm on vacation in get to eat all the food. Even with just the one guy everything was super good, service was great, zero complaints. Will come back next time I'm in town.

Lauren H.

Yelp
I came here for the first time last Wednesday for trivia night. What a great space!!! Incredibly friendly staff, good drinks, decent food. Will definitely come back.

Piper S.

Yelp
Favorite neighborhood bar. Friendliest staff, best environment, and pulled pork mac that could make you cry.
