The best restaurants and bars near Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis | Eater Twin Cities

"This is the pizza of Southeast Minneapolis legend. The original home of Parkway Pizza, its Minnehaha location is spacious-yet-cozy. Serving up proper midwestern square slices, this self-titled ‘Minneapolis Style Pizza’ comes with pretty much any topping you could ever want on a pizza. Top it off with Parkway’s excellent beer selection." - Eater Staff

Google
Cozy little pizza place! They offer delivery within a radius. Stopped in because last time I was there it smelled so good, but I didn't have time to stop. My kids demolished the cheese pizza. Wife and I got the spicy chicken pizza. It was excellent! The chicken was cut to a good size. There was a good ratio to dough, cheese and chicken. I love that the crust was thin and had some snap to it without being crispy or burned. First time here. But I will for sure be back. Parkway is easily in my top 5 pizzas! They also offer select gluten free and vegan friendly options.

Google
Great service with delicious pizza!! We got Mushroom and Vegetarian Pepperoni from the Herbivorous Butcher. Our pie had a fun ride home with fishtails in the snow so its a little mangled in the video lol still tastes perfecto 👌🍕🍄🌿

Google
Food is absolutely amazing. The hamburger pizza and artichoke dip are my fave. They also have my favorite THC drink— oliphant ruins lemonade. The food makes it all worth it. At first I was irritated with my service. I was wondering why it was taking so long to order or get more water, but I realized that there are only two people waiting, seating, serving ice cream, taking phones, and tending the bar. Then I felt bad. This place could use some tlc. Floor and trim look pretty dirty. The booths could use a dusting. Not enough seating on Monday nights due to trivia. Some of the seats should be rearranged or changed to fit more people. Not enough room for large groups. I like this place and live right down the road so I’ll continue to support it. Hopefully that kid who was in here today looking to apply gets the job. Parkway Pizza NE needs some love and care.

Google
Was looking for a seed oil free place to get pizza and this place popped up. I didn’t look into ingredients, but saw that the crusts were handmade each day. I brought my Kids for an impromptu fun evening and thoroughly enjoyed the pizzas and also enjoyed playing with a couple board games they had available to encourage people to connect. Loved their MN small town feels and the thin crust pizza. I asked for it cooked well done and it came out perfectly. Thank you for a great experience, we will be back with my husband! :)

The food here is very good and the portions are just right. The staff is super friendly. The dining area is long and narrow, and it tends to get very noisy. Parking across the street is free. Do t miss the ice cream for dessert!

Google
My neighborhood pizza place has good food and great service. We usually order the pasta supreme and share it, along with a salad. Pizza for takeout is tasty too. They offer great local beer and decent wine. I like both! Park for free on the street or in the Johnson Street Merchants parking lot. The place was recently redecorated and it looks great! It wasn’t too busy on a Friday night, but the place does fill up on its trivia nights.

Google
Perfect for family night. We get a large pizza, half deluxe artichoke (add sausage for a great combination) and do half pepperoni for our kids. Solid beer selection - grab a couple Foggy Geezers and then a scoop of ice cream to end the meal *chef’s kiss* perfect.

Google
Parkway Pizza was an amazing experience for our first time! We ordered 3 different kinds of pizza and all three had fresh ingredients and a tasty thin crust (not too thin, they load the toppings on and the crust is thin enough for crunch but sturdy enough for the toppings). Great balance paired with friendly staff and a clean restaurant. We got our pizza to go but stayed to eat Sébastien Joe's ice cream. Everyone was pleasant and they even had a family friendly movie playing (Sunday evening). Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and date night deals are great! Food is great but (pizza) slightly greasy

Yelp
Nice thin crust pizza. They have a nice happy hour daily. The pizza was very tasty and enjoyable. The service is very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
This is my local pizza place and I've ordered from them 100 times. DESPITE the fact that I often get so-so pizza. I keep giving it another go, but especially if you are ordering non-traditional offerings, they arrive literally half-baked sometimes and with the wrong ingredients. I haven't been satisfied with my order in quite awhile. If you like pepperoni pizza, I think you'll be ok, but they don't deliver on specialties like Luce does. I'm not sure who is working in the kitchen.
google avatar

Yelp
As always, delicious pizza, friendly staff, and great atmosphere! They have fun games to play while you wait for your pizza. We'll be back soon!

Yelp
New Haven style pizza in NE - perfection!! My son is a pizza aficionado and he gives this 2 thumbs up. Housemade sausage is a must!!

Yelp
Great local Pizza place. Pasta and bread good too. Delivery. I like it. Pizza good. Wish they had spaghetti with pasta sauce.
google avatar

Yelp
This is really good pizza, I'll just start right out there to say. The sausage is really flavorful, crispy pepperoni, and cooked perfectly with a crispy crust. The sauce was really tasty and very mild. I liked everything about it. The only weird thing was, if you look closely at the photo, you can see that the upper left hand corner does not match up with the rest of the pizza. Either it was dropped or part of it fell and they copied and pasted from another pie. I didn't notice it at the time bc they place their pizza on stilts. Pretty sneaky, sis lol

Yelp
Great neighborhood pizza place. My wife and I love bringing our kids here for pizza and ice cream every now and then. Friendly service and good food.

Yelp
I ordered a Carnivore Pizza for lunch on a Friday. It was delicious, and the service was outstanding. I'll be sure to visit again.

Yelp
We live close by parkway pizza so it's a favorite of ours! Everyone is so friendly and the food is great priced. We love going in the summers and sitting outside and enjoying downtown Waite park. Inside is great as well! You can't go wrong by spending time here :)
google avatar

Yelp
Great gluten free pizza and their in house homemade sausage is phenomenal! Highly recommend a spinach, sundried tomato, sausage gluten free pizza!

Yelp
First time getting a hoagie from here. The pizza was very good, the hoagie was very good too, but it was more like a half of a hoagie. For $12 I was expecting it to be a little bigger. It was only a 7" hoagie. I guess I'll stick with the pizza.

Ted K.

Yelp
Whenever I order online I request well-done, but it is never cooked as instructed. I don't think they actually read the "special instructions." I do enjoy their pizza but it does often arrive cold on delivery and never prepared well-done as requested.

Yelp
Several of us were at a nearby brewery that didn't serve food. What's a hungry group to do? Order a couple large pepperoni pizzas and have them delivered. They came fairly quickly, were very reasonably priced and quite tasty in a simple way. Liked that it was not a thick crust. Toppings were generous. We all chowed down and it went great with the brews.

Yelp
Parkway, how have I not reviewed you! I discovered Parkway a few years ago after I went vegan. Easily the best delivery pizza with vegan options. The cheese is aplenty and tastes like cheese. Their toppings are numerous and fresh. My go to is vegan cheese with tomato and vegan hamburger, to. die. for. Since we moved closer to Dinkytown in NE, they no longer deliver to us but I gladly go out to get. Orders are usually ready very fast

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Ordered pick up for a gaming night. Their sauce is perfection! Just a little spicy and with great tomato flavor. Tender, chewy crust. All around an excellent pizza!

Yelp
A group of us were craving some pizza on Saturday, so we ordered delivery. We looked for pizza places in Nordeast and stumbled upon Parkway. The lady on the phone couldn't hear our order due to how loud it was inside the pizza joint, so she had to go to the back of the restaurant in order to take our order. I had never tried Parkway Pizza before, so hearing a packed house was a solid sign. We chose to get the family combo (~$26) which comes with cheese bread, 4 pops of our choice, and a large one-topping pizza. We paid a little extra to have 2 toppings on our pizza. We also got a box of wings with ranch as well. The delivery came relatively quick and we received a call when they had arrived in front of the building. First thing we noticed about the order: the 4 pops included were not liters (as we thought it would be) but rather, regular cans and the wings weren't the wings we ordered. We asked for plain crispy chicken wings with ranch, but somehow, we got buffalo wings and ranch. The reason why I didn't deduct a star from the prestigious five stars, is because the food was amazing. Even though our wing order wasn't correct, for delivery wings, they were quite tasty. The thin crust, square-sliced, pizza was so cheesy and delicious! Their handmade sausage stole the show. I can't wait to have Parkway Pizza again!

Yelp
Great standard issue pizza. Little pricey, but they do not skimp on toppings! Sauce is flavorful too.

Yelp
Parkway Pizza is a local fave! I have now lived in all three parts of Minneapolis close to each of the Parkway locations (NE, Longfellow and SLP)! Ordering online is alway quick and easy! I've done both pickup and delivery and each time my pizza has been correct and has come fairly quick! Staff are friendly and food is always delicious. They offer parmesan packets and little containers with red pepper flake for takeout, and probably delivery if you request it? Their house made sausage is my all-time favorite! They also offer vegan options, which is cool! All the locations also have trivia nights and Pokemon Go nights- love it because it fosters an awesome sense of community!

Yelp
Ordered pizza and a salad tonight, for delivery. They forgot the salad and were very apologetic. 20 minutes later they came back with 2 salads & 2 cookies at no extra charge ... this covering for a simple mistake was excellent customer service! Thanks for being such a great part of our neighborhood!

Yelp
Had went to Sarah Jane's Bakery next door when we saw Parkway Pizza. Has several tables for dine in and also has pick up and delivery. Ordered a 12" pineapple and Canadian Bacon pizza and it was out in about 15 minutes. Very tasty, crust was crisp and ingredients fresh. Sauce was good too! Staff attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I wanted to try new pizza and was pleasantly surprised by this place I'd never heard of. Small shop in northeast with a typical casual pizza place structure of order, pay, sit and wait for your order at one of the tables inside or outside. I can't speak about waiting time because we had ordered pizzas for pick-up which were ready when we arrived. We asked if we could sit on the patio with the pre-ordered pizzas and our dog and they had no problem with it. Surprisingly delicious pizza- with thin but not soggy dough, tasty sauce and fresh toppings. I got the Works pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions and I'd get it again. I was worried that their sausage would have too much fennel flavor but it was a perfect balance. They offer a 10% off coupon for your first order which you should take advantage of. I might try a calzone next time to try to change it up!

Yelp
Good pizza, cheesy thin crust, nice cozy atmosphere, top tier service. A good pizza will run you ~$23 here.
google avatar

Yelp
This location is a joke. I've ordered from here many times, but I won't be returning as a customer. 1 hour and 35 minutes for A SINGLE PIZZA!!!! Also, the pizza was cold as ice. Felt like it had been in the fridge for an hour. Save your money and get Element Pizza in Northeast.

Yelp
Pre-concert tradition. Haven't actually had pizza here but the spicy Italian hoagie is very good would highly recommend.
google avatar

Kara L.

Yelp
I like having a neighborhood pizza place. What's better is a pizza place that delivers salads, pastas, hoagies, appetizers, and ice cream. Not just any ice cream though.. Sebastian Joe's! I've never dined in but have had delivery many times. Everything is solid but if I was going to make recommendations I would say go for the spicy Italian hoagie and the supreme pizza. Salads are huge and could feed three people. Skip the artichoke dip and the garlic cheese bread is just ok. Take advantage of getting Sebastian Joe's ice cream delivered to your door too!
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
I generally love their pizza.. but I am pretty irritated with their online ordering system. Also they don't have a general contact link, so yelp here I am. Tonight I just want to order a large house veggie, which should be about $23. I want to subtract the black/green olives and replace with garlic, extra mushrooms.. and their site wants to charge me another $10. Which is Ridiculous, even if I were adding 2 toppings!!. Most pizza places I've ordered from allow you to sub toppings without an insane upcharge

Yelp
VEGAN! Ordered takeout from here for vegan and regular. The vegan pizza was excellent albeit expensive ($34 for a pizza that feeds four?! Ordered the spicy chicken- got a call on the way to pick it up that said it's $10 more to make it vegan- not transparent while ordering but definitely willing to pay it to support vegan options) would give five out of five for their vegan options, taste, and value!! My sister had the regular cheese pizza and said it was not great. She tried the vegavore pizza and loved it.

Yelp
Absolutely love this neighborhood gem. Their delivery practices during the pandemic have been stellar, and the pie is always piping hot and on time or early. And the pizza itself - exactly what we want out of thin crust pie - crispy edge, solid but not chewy crust, slightly spicy sauce, and always fresh ingredients. They have a number of creative combos, our go toes are the Minnehaha Greek with red sauce and Artichoke Deluxe. One word of advice - the default here is square cut so if you happen to prefer pie cut be sure to specify that. If you haven't tried square cut before, do it. You may never go back. ;-)

Yelp
Parkway just opened its second location right next to Sarah Jane's bakery and I can already tell it will become one of our go-to take-out spots. We just got back from vacation and definitely the last thing on our minds after pulling in from the airport was cooking. So, it was the perfect night to give Parkway a try! They offer free delivery, so we stopped by, placed our order, finally got home, and our pizza arrived! It was super quick delivery service, especially considering the ridiculous cold tonight. For our first pie, we got half pepperoni and sausage and half tomatoes, spinach, and garlic. A big pie (maybe 16"?) was $19.50 for all those goodies, and we were really pleasantly surprised. The sauce has just the right amount of kick, and they grind and spice the sausage themselves every day. You can taste how fresh the ingredients are, and we are all for places that have topping options like fresh spinach and other veggies. Brownie points! They also source a lot of their produce from local farmers, so there's a lot to love about Parkway. The crust is on the thin side, but not like crunchy paper-thin cardboard. It's soft and chewy but also crispy on the edges, and is strong enough to hold a lot of cheesy goodness. It's the perfect balance for my hubby and me, since I love thin crust and he loves a little more bread. Next time, we will give their house combos a try. They have Greek, BBQ, and about a dozen other creations that sound delectable. Quick tip: they don't do slices! We thought they did, but, alas, we were sadly mistaken. They do make 10" pies, though, so that's a nice compromise. Also, they serve salads, pastas, and various appetizers, so even if you don't have a hankering for pizza you'll probably find something you like here. Parkway has done a really nice job with the old Nuff space. It's not cozy and comfy yet, but I'm sure they're still working on the finishing aesthetic touches. It's nice to finally have a good local restaurant in this storefront! Welcome to the 'hood, Parkway.

Yelp
To the man working behind the counter the afternoon we swung in for ice cream...seriously...what's your deal? Do you even like people? If not, maybe the customer service industry isn't for you. I'll set the stage...it's a hot summer day and my husband and I were out for a nice afternoon stroll. Me, being the ice cream glutton that I am, wanted a treat. So we wandered in and started looking at the giant tubs of ice cream. The list above them mentioned a flavor of the month. The guy behind the counter slowly made his way down to where we were looking and just stood there. No greeting whatsoever. I then asked him what the flavor of the month was. With an eye roll and a large sigh, he mumbled out something that sounded like cinnamon and pretzel. I ordered the Nicollet Ave Pothole, which was absolutely fantastic. As an aside, I would definitely go back to Parkway for this ice cream, but not this location. So he starts to scoop the ice cream into the waffle cone, and the scoop all but disappears into the cone as he hands it over the counter to me. I literally had to look down into the cone to see it. And then charged me $6 for it. Let me just say, I'm definitely not a person who expects something for nothing, but I have never been to an ice cream shop (and I've been to A LOT of ice cream shops) where a single scoop of ice cream doesn't at least clear the rim of the waffle cone. What's the point of a waffle cone if you have to eat half of the cone itself before you even hit ice cream? I wanted to throw it right back in his face...but I didn't because I don't waste good ice cream. So, Parkway NE...enjoy that $6 for that tiny scoop of ice cream, because it's the last cent you'll ever get from me.

Yelp
This restaurant has only been in the neighborhood for awhile so I've only been here once. I placed an order for takeout a couple hours early. Unfortunately, it was not ready when my husband went to pick it up. They actually didn't even have the order so he had to wait until it was prepared. The pizza itself and cheesy toast was great. The sauce is smooth and thick and has a nice kick without being spicy. There was the perfect amount of house made sausage on the pizza. It's americanized pizza but that's what you want sometimes. I could see myself ordering from here again, assuming the ordering issues aren't common. TIP: They have free delivery and coupons on their website.

Yelp
Parkway Pizza is a great addition to the Audubon Neighborhood--thumbs up! My wife and I had lunch there this afternoon. The variety of pizza flavors is pretty interesting. They also have some eclectic beverage choices. I didn't know there was such a thing as gluten free beer. If you want some, they have it. The artichoke dip appetizer rocked! The portions were generous, and the dip & bread were both flavorful. We split two lunch entrees. First, we tried the hot hoagie--spicy Italian. It was fantastic! Second, we sampled a 16" carnivore, thin crust pizza. The pizza was very good! And we had plenty of extra to take home. Service was super friendly, efficient, and Johnny-on-the-spot. These guys deliver too--alright! We were the only ones there at 1:00 in the afternoon. I sure hope people come in to try them. Since it was slow, we had fun talking to the owner and one of the cooks about NE Minneapolis. For some reason, restaurants in this area have been hit-or-miss. I hope these guys do well. -Daddy Maxx Retro

Yelp
Great pizza, skip the wings. The wings are tiny and tend to be over cooked. The sauce has a good flavor and have a comfortable level of heat, but they miss the mark in every other aspect. Also, don't let them sit in the foil as they stick to the packaging and you will be picking silver flakes off of them and no one likes that.

Yelp
We came in at exactly 4:57 and I quickly asked our server Sammi if we could still order happy hour beers. She very sweetly said " yes, of course!" ( happy hour is over at 5). I immediately thought " now this is great customer service!" Salad, garlic cheese bread, and pasta were excellent! Have been here for pizza as well; also excellent! I just want to emphasize that customer service is so crappy at so many places and throughout our evening, Sammi was the best !!! Very happy this place is in my NE. Neighborhood.

Kendall R.

Yelp
Longtime Parkway Pizza customer. Usual order is a supreme pizza which is always good. I decided to try a sub from the menu but was very disappointed. Once I unwrapped the sub, the first thing I see is burnt bread all around and I ate half with sadness thinking to myself why I didn't I just go to Marino's Deli.

Paul P.

Yelp
I am a traditional pizza snob. Give me meat and veggies on a crisp crust from a brick oven. This is the spot. Cracker crust, plenty of toppings, great service and priced right. Even have lots of options for Vegans. In the top 5 of my pizza places in the state. Maybe even #1.
google avatar

Yelp
Parkway has gotten better with time, I will give them that. I used to live nearby and this place used to be a last minute dinner option. They have free delivery in Northeast, which you can't beat. I literally lived blocks from them and ordered delivery. Laziness at it's finest. Food here is mediocre. Their pizza has gotten better but nothing special...it fulfills your late night pizza needs. I've tried their wings as a take-out option and the skin was not crispy, but not sure if that was due to the fact that it was take out. I tried one of their pasta entrees and it had a layer of cheese about 1/2 inch thick on top before I got to the noodles. Not a big fan. Plus: Free delivery Minus: Mediocre food

Yelp
I feel like updating my review. This place has seriously awesome pizza! I have been a fan ever since I lived next to the Longfellow location. Best part it is thin (ish) crust so it appeases fans of regular and thin crust. The sauce..... wow! Very flavorful! My regular is their 3 topping jumbo special and do sausage (they arent lying when they say the best in MSP), pepperoni with light mozz and add goat cheese. Try their goat cheese, it is fantastic. We also get their pesto cheese bread which is fantastic! Overall this place is just downright great! I take anyone that comes from other parts of the city here from out of town and can say that I have never heard a complaint. I have only had one hoagie which was also good and never pasta so cant comment on that. Also their owner was fast to comment on an issue I had in a very respectful manor. They also take cards at the door which is awesome for forgetful people like myself.

Yelp
This is a great pizza joint that I think is finally here to stay as Johnson street residents should know that there has been many turn over at this location for several years. It was packed on Friday night when I went in there for takeout. They are running their business well. I like their pizza and the online order for pickup was easy to follow. No delays when I got there. The only thing I wasn't happy about my recent experience was that their toppings were rather scarce, or it was mainly all in the middle of the pizza compared to my first trip to this place. My Canadian bacon was difficult to find among the molten of cheese on it! I think the last time I ordered a whole and this time I ordered half and half. Also, I decided to try their wings. Well, I love how tender the meat was and the sauce was delicious but if you look at my photos, those were not wings!!!!!! They were drummies!!!! Not even a mix of both but all drummies! I was like /@"&$(;:)$&. No one messes with my wings!! SO I think it was misrepresentation on their menu and I am not sure if I will be back.

Teri L.

Yelp
Wow! I just ordered a large, thin-crust sausage and cheese pizza from the NE location, and it was awesome! The sauce is a flavorful delight; the crust perfectly baked to the edges; the sausage robust but not 'hot,' and the cheese evenly melted and scrumptious! I ordered it delivered and what excellent, professional, and courteous service! I highly recommend Parkway Pizza and will be a repeat customer! Thank you so much!

Roma R.

Yelp
Consistently awesome food, service and quality! How have I never written a review for Parkway Pizza before? They always deliver on time. The salads are large, the pasta is always hot, and their pizza is amazing! I really don't like deep dish pizza, so their thin crust is perfect for me. Also I've been ordering from them pretty consistently for the last year and a half several times a month and they have never screwed up an order! I can't say that about any other pizza place I have ever ordered from! I have only ever done delivery so I can't say anything for the actual location.

Yelp
The MPLS/St. Paul area is full of chain pizza shops, high end pizza shops like Black Sheep, Pig Ate My pizza, Pizza Luce etc...but is lacking in the good mom and pop and bar type pizza that's both good and reasonably priced. (Go to Pittsburgh, NYC, Chicago to find these places) It was great to discover Parkway Pizza. 5 Star Service, Pizza was AWESOME! You can tell management and staff care about the establishment and the people coming to them for business. Prices are right, portion sizes are large. Crust is just right-not to thick, not too thin. Toppings are abundant. This is my new go to place for pizza when I don't feel like over paying for over hyped pizza that is truly only marginal and long waits that are typical in the MSP Pizza world.

Yelp
Again...the menu items here are good. Haven't had a bad meal yet. But here's a short timeline: Last year, when requesting a kids menu for a four-year-old, I was told they didn't have them. After including this fact a review, they responded by saying they do carry kids menus and that there was a mixup. Understandable. Last night while dining there, I notice the kids menu right on the table in front of my now five-year-old. I smile. Problem: it isn't a kids menu. It looks like a kids menu printed on a single sheet of paper with a few items directly from the regular menu, at regular menu prices. I frown. Suggestion: If you decide to open a PIZZA restaurant in a neighborhood loaded with families with kids, and choose NOT to offer a kids menu, it's a bit weird. Presenting customers with a FAKE kids menu: DELIBERATELY DECEPTIVE? c'mon guys!

Yelp
Really wish we had known that the 10" pizza crusts are not homemade. They tasted horrible like cardboard; like that freezer crust you get at Target. The pizzas looked fun and imaginative, but were not very flavorful. Both the Minnehaha Greek and the Pico de Gallo could've used some pizzaz. Larger pizza looks good and homemade; judging by other pictures of the pizza. Just steer clear of the 10" personal pizzas.

Yelp
Really glad Parkway opened in my neighborhood! The location has been a bit of a revolving door, and it's been a long time since we had good pizza. I ordered a custom pie to take out. I was told it would take 45 minutes, which was a little startling. I showed up after about 40 minutes and the pie was still warm but I think it had been sitting a while. A little annoying but no big deal. The pizza itself is delicious, and I'd rate it near the top for pizza available in the Twin Cities at the moment. I would give the pizza itself at 4 1/2 stars, but am rounding down due to my weird service experience. I will definitely be back, and would not hesitate to recommend Parkway!

Yelp
Really good food! Timely delivery and great customer service! I had a Chicken Caeser salad and my co-workers had a personal pizza and a hoagie, and all of it was delicious! Highly recommend and will continue to enjoy thier food while at work.

Yelp
Initially I was a fan. Though either that was just the new car (pizza) smell or their quality has gone down, because the last 3 times I've had it delivered it was sub par. Soggy mess. Yes, there is lots of cheese and that is what makes it edible. Too much sauce and too little oven time. Seems to be straddling the line between a thin crust minnesotan square cut pizza and a gourmet pie but not really exceeding at either. A little less sauce (and dare I say maybe a little less cheese?) and a few more minutes in the oven would make these pizzas stand out. Food aside, the service both in house and delivery has been terrific.

Yelp
Parkway is far and away the best pizza joint in my neighborhood. They have good prices and they have fun happy hour/events regularly. What I love most about Parkway is their vegan options. Now that they have added a whole vegan menu, I will definitely be a regular! Keep up the great work Parkway!
