The Best Restaurants In and Around Lakeview | Eater New Orleans

"This longtime watering hole in the heart of Lakeview on Harrison is a neighborhood favorite, with a super long bar, karaoke, and frequent promos like $3 bloody marys and day drinking specials. Although they don’t have a kitchen, feel free to bring in eats from Reginelli’s Pizzeria or Lakeview Burgers next door. Get ready, this place is lively." - Beth D’Addono

So, I was invited here to celebrate a birthday with a couple of coworkers. It was really just some coworkers hanging out to decompress and talk to each other, which we don't always get to do at work. The bar don't serve food, but there was a pop-up seafood boil truck that pulled up outside that you could buy from and eat in the bar. It was a to-go plate that consisted of 1 lobster, corn on the cob, potato, and a pound of boiled shrimp for $22. We all shared the plates so I only got to try the shrimp. The texture was good and the flavor was ok. I have had better boiled shrimp, but it was decent enough to eat. As far as the bar service, it was pretty busy. When I initially arrived and for the first hour, there was only one bartender, a hard working young lady that went from one end of the bar to the next. There was at least three or four other people who kept coming in and out of the back, but never assisting her with service. It took about 10 minutes before she noticed me to serve me a drink. Eventually, a second lady showed up and served the other end of the bar. I felt bad for the first young lady that I left her a bigger tip than I was going to originally give. For a bar that advertises being the longest bar in the parish you would think they would have enough bartenders to serve during the busiest time on a Friday! When it comes to the drinks, I originally ordered an amaretto and pineapple and she was going for the bottom shelf bottom, I told her I wanted Disarono. She informed me that it was $5 more, but that's what I wanted and she gave it to me. Lesson here, know what you want and pay attention to what you are being given or you may get something you don't like. I was willing to pay since I don't go out drinking like that. One time won't hurt, right? The last thing I want to mention was the atmosphere. The music was very loud in the place and my throat was hurting because I had to talk loud to even the person next to me. I think, they should have had it a little lower. I would feel different if people were dancing. I will probably not visit this place again. There were too many strikes against it that I could think of several other bars that do it better. I didn't even bother to take pictures while there.

Went to try and celebrate a family Members birthday. Had to leave after only one Coors Banquet to pick someone up from the airport; wake up today to see my card charged for $20 for ONE beer. With the godawful atmosphere and the creepy patrons this establishment allows, this was the disrespectful icing on the cake. Wish this place never got rebuilt sometimes.

Sophie was amazing. She was super fast with service and super sweet! 10/10 recommend visiting

I come here just about every Wednesday for girls night and outside of the great drink specials, Sophie is always so friendly and fun! I never have to wait too long for a drink and she gives great suggestions for fun stuff to do in the city. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Sophie is the best!!! So accommodating and nice. So easy to get a drink!

My boyfriend and I are weekly patrons of Parlays. It’s kinda like Cheers “where everyone knows your name”. We always have a great time and have made friends that have turned into family! We always go for the LSU and Saints games and the atmosphere is always so lively! Allison, Sophie, Kelsey and Brittney are great bartenders and know what I need before I even ask! They pay attention and are very attentive! This is the best bar in lakeview and at night the bar is always poppin’! Great music and the bartenders handle the crowd with complete control and are always level headed. Everyone here is great and I don’t want to go anywhere else! This is OUR BAR!!! 😍

Google
I’ve been coming to Parlays frequently for a few years, one of the highlights is seeing/talking to Sophie! Not only does Sophie make the best margaritas, but she is the best person to interact with and is always in the best mood! The drinks are great, but Sophie makes the evening memorable!

I've been coming here for well over a decade, usually for happy hour. I've seen a shift in attitude and clientele over the past few years so stopped going as a regular stop. Though I made the mistake by coming to watch the 2nd half of the LSU Arkansas game last Sat. I went with my wife and adult daughter. My wife wanted me to go in first to get a seat so she could use the restroom. I entered and it was about half full, I figured I'd get a beer first since the bar was not full so I started for the bar (mind you I'm now well into the bar nearly getting to the corner of the actual BAR. This is where I am rudely stopped, literally with an extended arm to stop my progress and the person angrily tells me I have to have an ID!!! this guy is MAD! "oh ok, my bad" I replied. My wife and daughters now catching up to me, I turn and tell them they need to have an ID because I was sure my wife didn't bring hers. I had forgotten that they started carding here at night, which I want to make clear is a GOOD thing! I'm not complaining that I got carded. I get my ID out to show him, but he shoves it away and said "sir...ladies first" (as to lecture me that I didn't let the girls go first?? I have no idea. Ok...I laugh... Eventually he cards us (my wife had hers ) and I get my wrist band but he continues to stare me down as he puts it on, I took it as an attempt to escalate....for what I have no idea! eventually I get my wrist band and I very nicely say "THANK YOU VERRY MUCH SIR" which appeared to make him more grumpy,. The whole interaction was bizarre No problem finding a seat in the back. But took sometime to get my drinks. Bar tenders looked pretty grumpy as well and the people at the bar don't like you trying to walk up to order drinks , they're like the snobs at a Mardi Gras parade who think they own the turf they are sitting at (how are people who aren't at the bar supposed to get a drink. Maybe they should have a service station at the end of the bar to get a drink like how Parkview Tavern has it. For the most part the patrons had attitudes as well. "wow this place has changed" I think to myself. All in all a really rotten time in a place that used to be a friendly neighborhood bar. Again I want to make clear I have no problem with them carding and having some form of security. But the person carding was all the way in the bar and appeared to be one of the costumers where people were sitting. Yet it was my fault I didn't know I should have had my card ready for him. And to be treated like this (I'm 53 and obviously not trying to avoid being carded) at Parleys is ridiculous. This place is losing a lot of their regulars. I suppose the newer college aged crowd makes more money. good for them. I won't be coming back.

Yelp
The ambiance is genuine and cool. The customer service is phenomenal and I don't know if they have food but the drinks are excellent.

Yelp
After tasting the freshest half shelled oysters all around New Orleans, my husband and I were on the hunt for some affordable oysters and stumbled across this gem!!! Happy hour oysters for $8/dozen from 3-7 PM? Yes, please! We arrived right at 3 PM and devoured 4 dozens among the two of us. My husband claims that this was the best part of his trip to New Orleans. We will definitely be back when we are in town again!

Yelp
I haven't been to Parlays in years, but I just came back and checked it out since I'm visiting, and it's way better than it used to be! It's still a neighborhood bar, the prices are low, they have super friendly bartenders. The beer selection and liquor selection is fine for a little dive bar.

Trenton S.

Yelp
Allison is the best bartender in nola, bingo on monday's is electric, sent from god!!!!
google avatar

Whitney K.

Yelp
Friendly bartenders, a bar that looks a country mile long, juke box, pool tables... what more could you want for a Saturday night out? Old town vibes with new town flavor. Lighting is funky and cool. Outdoor area to hang out. Funny tshirts for sell worn by the crew. Just go! You can thank me later!
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
Be prepared to pay a surprise 4% Processing Fee if you use a debit/credit card at Parlay's. They obviously pass their inability to negotiate their credit card fees onto their paying customers. We won't be back. The funniest visit here was in 2020 when the door staff would require anyone walking in to wear a mask but the same door guy was not wearing one. Laughable!

Yelp
Burned down last night. However Yelp says this is too short for a review so I'm writing some extra stuff. My sympathies to the owners.

Maria R.

Yelp
blonde with long hair bartender is the best!!! wish I knew her name but she makes the best drinks!!

Baylee M.

Yelp
Bald guy with glasses (I think he's the shit) The bartenders are super nice. Super friendly vibe. 5 stars.

Yelp
Great bar with great prices! Plus a wide selection of drinks. Oysters are good & hospitality is great. Love making a pit stop here whenever I'm in Lakeview.

Yelp
Something so nostalgic about Parlay's, even after the reopening. We always end our night here after having dinner across the street. Love it! Always a good time!

Yelp
I hadn't been to Parlay's in years, but my Lakeview drinking companions needed cigarettes. Why go to a bar for smokes when there are convenience stores? No clue, but somehow we ended up at Parlay's. Having not been there for years, I was unsure what to expect. The Parlay's of today seemed eerily similar to the place I remembered from the late 90's. This very narrow and long bar was packed to the hilt with people. There were lots of what appeared to be dudes on the prowl, and single ladies lining the bar. While not my scene, if it is yours, you will probably enjoy this bar. The employees were friendly and somewhat efficient despite the very large crowd on a Saturday. This bar does bring back many memories, not all of which are good. Would the bad memories keep me away? Probably not, so next time I am in a drinking mood in Lakeview, I may have to spend more time remembering why I never really liked going there.

Yelp
DJ Dylan always brings the Also juul friendly But seriously DJ Dylan is on the come up. Always got awesome tunes. Bootychedda out

Ashton L.

Yelp
Not sure who hates their life more, Bill Cosby, or the workers at this bar. Each request was greeted with an eye roll, not once did I receive a "you're welcome" or anything of the sorts. Very frustrating.
google avatar

Helen M.

Yelp
this spot has awesome happy hour written all over. it was a bit hard to find initially, but i must say once i found it i was glad i went. there was great prices on the beer and cocktails for happy hour. i can see why this spot gets crowded so fast too. they play some tunes and it's really dive bar-ish!!!!!! i also like that this spot is located around food spots so even though they only sell drinks you can always walk to wherever you're in the mood for and come back!!!i will be back!!!

Bob R.

Yelp
DON'T !!!! Do not go to this bar. RIPOFF! Awful bartenders- rude and just don't like customers, evidently! So many other better places to go. Ugh!!

Erica L.

Yelp
I feel bad doing this because I've worked restaurant, and I know it sucks. . I had called ahead and asked if I could use apple pay bc I didnt have a card on me and was told it wasn't a problem. When I actually tried to the bartender refused because she "didn't know how" and when i tried to explain it to her how to run it she just said "um i'm really busy" and walked away lol. I had to basically beg her to try and run my card.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great. A little cheesy at times with all the people who frequent regularly, but they are tolerable. They have a great bar selection of beer and liquors and my favorite aspect is them being next to Lakeview Seafood. You can order from both spots and enjoy a nice night out under the stars. With an occasional drunk to entertain you.
google avatar

Deirdre T.

Yelp
Nice Lakeview hangout bar. Nice patio seating outdoors. The drinks were affordable. Great happy hour specials. The bar tenders are fast. Not a very very diverse crowd so I sat outside with my friend to avoid the stares. I like that the music isn't so loud that you have to scream to have a good conversation.
google avatar

Edmund M.

Yelp
This is a good spot in Lakeview. The bartenders are very friendly and professional. Afternoons tends to be a local crowd but later the young people show up and it has energy. Friday's are great because they have crawfish! Don't really have a complaint. Just a really good neighborhood spot.
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
I give Parlay's an A-OK for effort. Since the last time I went there, they had built out the back room adding a good bit of more space. Funny enough, the bottle-necking STILL occurs in the front room by the bar. I played the new skee ball, though the balls don't feel regulation (insert pun here) and the glass seems to be pretty low. I suck at skee ball, so that doesn't help the cause either. I enjoy a good ol' ladies night, all you can drink for $5 on Wednesdays, but no bar that I go to competes with how smoky my clothes, hair and purse smell after going to Parlay's. :/ I will still go to Parlay's on a rogue Wednesday night, but it would make my day if it were non-smoking or they invested in some smoke eaters.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
Ok so you got to just appreciate Parlay's for what it is...a smokey, loud, cramped bar filled with drunk fools who are eager to get in your personal space. The end. Ok so, ya I hate the smoke....and ya the crowd tends to air a bit on the obnoxious side....but I got to give it to them....they have drink specials every day of the week. That counts for something right?? I have a feeling that it doesn't matter what anyone actually RATES Parlay's on Yelp because they continually have a pretty loyal fan base that will patron the joint on a regular basis. I can only assume this to be so since I was the ONLY stranger in the bar. Literally, everyone knew each other's names and knew the bartenders but me. I was like the new kid who walked into the crowded lunch room on her first day of school and realized she had no friends. But that's OKAY LADIES because more than likely you will encounter some unsolicited advancements from men slightly older than your father. You might as well just roll with it if your going to go the Parlay's route....ya know....when in Rome and all that crap....
google avatar

Cody K.

Yelp
Parlay's is what it always has been: that young neighborhood bar where it's great to meet new people and have a good time. The pool tables are the average price at 75¢. There's also ski ball and Golden Tee golf game to keep you occupied. Alcohol and beer prices are all the typical going rate. Wednesday and Thursdays are the best days to go with ladies night and karaoke. The only real qualm to have with this place is the bar stool arrangement on weekends. It's nearly impossible to walk through and/or order a drink with the amount of chairs crammed into the bar. It's the type of place to don't bother trying to close your tab. Save yourself the 10 minutes of waiting and accept the 20% auto gratuity.

Massoud D.

Yelp
Best bar in New Orleans. Newly renovated with New Orleans spirit. friendly bartenders, Happy atmosphere.
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Stopped into Parlays with some friends for drinks. It was a very young crowd that seems to be popular with the ladies. Parlays gets better the later you go and the beer is always cold with some specials. The DJ is not that great and the music too loud to hold a conversation at times. Overall a good neighborhood bar especially if you are looking to meet new people.
google avatar

Damien H.

Yelp
Andygator and Strawberry Canebreak on tap = Awesome!! And amazing booze not named beer
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
This is a long narrow space with a bar that runs nearly the full length and then it opens up to a small rectangle in the back for pool and the bathrooms. I used to frequent this bar much more frequently after rugby 7's practice on Scout Island in City Park in past Summers. This is the only bar where I've had the experience of a female walking up to me and my friend in our dead sexy short rugby shorts and sticking her hands down our pants and grabbing our male parts!!! I still make my way here every few months or so and it always has a nice crowd having good times. They have some really cheesy and bad karaoke that is entertaining to watch just for the sheer horror of it. The service is generally efficient and the drinks are decently priced. Make sure to check out the wooden Indian and say hello to him for me.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
DJ Dylan kills it! Best DJ in New Orleans! Always plays the best music. Everyone go check him out!
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
The bartender Allie is selective with the patrons' she chooses to smile, laugh, or simply engage. I choose to make excuses for people who come across as rude Like ... maybe it's a bad day, maybe she's shy, maybe she isn't from here ... I couldn't wait to leave because I got stuck there in the rain today.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Great daily drink specials. For Sunday football it's 3 dollar bloody Mary's. Plenty of TVs is watch the game, and two pool tables in the back. Definitely a cool spot to watch some sports.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Went last Saturday evening for a few drinks before dinner. Bad service coupled with weak drinks equals a no return for me. Bartender should've paid more attention to her patrons than her friends, and $9 for one of her doubles is highway robbery.
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
Great sports bar to watch a game. LSU you get the sound, in sure the same for Saints. Otherwise the country playlist delighted while drinking whiskey and enjoying the crowded company rooting your team on. Specials were lacking but I got what I wanted at the bar with good service.
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
Not a terrible bar. I only go here because some friends of mine live about 2 minutes from the place. Okay crowd, but it gets super packed with young people who are just there to get ripped. Ridiculously smokey and since I am being drawn more and more to places that lack smoke completely, this is a turn off. They do have a few little bar games here that are pretty fun. Like Morgan mentioned, the skee ball is one of the selling points. All in all not a bad place if you are in the area, but not worth the trip if you aren't.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Not a bad place. Different drink specials every night of the week. They have a small kitchen with great debris fries. During LSU and Saints football games, they offer free food and it gets packed. Typically something like pulled pork or some type of pasta. Pool tables only charge .75 per game too. The best night to go would have to be Wednesday nights. Ladies and gentlemen get in for free or ladies can pay $5 for a cup. The cup gets you bottomless well liquor drinks, house wines, and draft beers. The prices are quite reasonable for everyone else. The only issue I have with this place is that they place a small deposit amount on your account so they can give you back your card. It takes a few days for the amount to be credited back to your account. I'd definitely go with cash to this place.
google avatar

Yelp
So, Parlay's doesn't serve food, but I come here for pizza. Why? Booze + the Reginelli's next door = awesome. Also, there are not many bars in lakeview, so if you want food you're generally out of luck. Fortunately the Reginelli's next door is accustomed to delivering to Parlay's. The place is a smoking bar, so if you're cool with that it's all good, but otherwise it's still not a "smoky bar". I regularly meet business acquaintances here to get them drunk, and find out what they're really all about. The place has a parking lot across the street which is pretty awesome, because otherwise it would be a pain in the ass (even for lakeview territory.) The pizza (which they don't serve) is amazing and again, they deliver straight to the bar! You can get drinks and know your cheese-filled dough, complete with anchovies and bell peppers, will be arriving soon to keep your buzz from turning in to belligerent drunkenness. The music selection is generally good, but maybe that's because I'm a fan of the 90's. Every time I've visited this place there has been some of my favorite 90s music on the jukebox. The place seems to be pretty popular for business-minded individuals. Every time I've come here I've run in to at least one other local Entrepreneurs who wants to talk about their businesses over some drinks. We also have happy hour for a referral group I am in here sometimes on Friday's. The wait staff is attentive and quick with orders. Even when the place is packed, the staff is very good about attending to your pizza-fueled needs for stronger booze. I give Parlay's four stars, but maybe it would only be three if not for their blood brother Reginelli's. I may just be partial to getting pizza with my booze (I am,) but there is something spectacular about combining the two.

Aren B.

Yelp
Pretty decent Lakeview bar. However it can get pretty crowded on kickball nights. Which isn't that big of a deal except that the building is kinda narrow. Drink prices are fair and the staff has always been nice to me.
google avatar

Brittany N.

Yelp
Small neighborhood bar with daily drink specials and ....CRAWFISH Fridays! For $6 you can enjoy a plate of crawfish, corn, and potatoes right out of the pot. (That is...if you can figure out the ticket system thing. I ended up having to wait over 2 hours for the crawfish b/c I "apparently" missed the first batch, but we had nothing better to do than enjoy some great cold beers while waiting!) *People do smoke here, but since they had the doors open it was well ventilated.
google avatar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Very cool! Very friendly crowd of locals and really nice staff. Nice change from the Bourbon street scene. Good selection of beer on tap.
google avatar

Cyn P.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years. Not five stars because I'm not behind the bar any more but Orlando, James and Michael made me feel like I never left!!!

Kelly C.

Yelp
The new girl Danielle who works during the day is the coolest, I like her vibe, great service. Put her on more shifts please.

Chris C.

Yelp
This use to be my neighborhood whole in the wall dive bar. Haven't been in a while since it so tiny and jammed full of people from outside the neighborhood. I will say the bartenders never disappoint and the beer is ice cold.
google avatar

Lindsey V.

Yelp
Much better since this place is now smoke free! Great selection of beer and daily specials!
google avatar

Jackie D.

Yelp
Meh. Weird setup - the bar goes straight down the building from front to back and is pretty narrow so not a whole lot of room for movement if it's busy or if you wanna get your twerk on. A good location for people that live in that area, but not worth the drive to Lakeview for everyone else as it's ordinary at best.
google avatar

Ronnie T.

Yelp
Fun place to hang out during Saints games. Drink prices are reasonable and they have food to eat for free. Also a good spot to meet friends and play pool or darts. Age groups vary so no one feels out of place.
google avatar

Thomas T.

Yelp
Love Love Love Parlays!!! This place is filled with "regulars" everyone knows eCh other and the bartenders know what you drink. It's a GREAT place! It gets really busy on the weekends, and there's free snacks for LSU and Saints games. Ladies Night every Wednesday, Karaoke every Thursday, and a different drink special every night! If you're in Lakeview, or if you're looking for a late night spot, make sure you check out Parlays!!! #GetParlaid!!!

Eddie S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. There is also a late night restaurant next door for when you get the munchies .
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Went here two nights in a row because they had decent drink specials ($3 bloody mary's and margaritas on Sundays) and we were staying nearby. The room stank like vomit and excrement and the service was pretty bad. Go elsewhere unless you don't have a choice.
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
Loud crowd an so-so service. Some great bartenders and a couple that suck. Loud, drunk, young, white guys all trying to impress the same fat girl.
google avatar

Mallory E.

Yelp
Not really my favorite bar. I've only gone because I was forced to go or there was an event here. One time there was water all over the floor and some of the bartenders were acting very inappropriate - Coyote Ugly style.
google avatar

Zachary A.

Yelp
Rowdy tavern with lots of college types and khaki-clad women seekers. Good staff, but sometimes the crowd can be a bit harrowing.
