How Travelers Turn Food Souvenirs Into a Vacation-Inspired Dinner Party | Eater
"A Balkan specialty grocery in Queens that travelers use to source authentic ingredients and souvenirs for home-cooked regional meals. Staff who are from the region can offer practical advice—one salesperson from Romania discussed stuffed cabbage and recommended a preferred brand of ajvar—making it a helpful stop for assembling dishes like borek, ajvar, and other pantry items tied to Balkan cooking traditions." - Devra Ferst
"Balkan & Mediterranean grocery with imported goods and hot dishes. Refillable olive oils and vinegars and plenty of foods you can bag up and pay by the pound. Great spot to stock up on your basics." - Young Jerks
Lot of items is overpriced up to 15-20 percent than in other stores … and on top of that they are cheap to give customers plastic bag for buying items… you need to buy bag or they ofer you some small plastig bag that you can’t put 2 lemon inside …. Big turn off

Can’t give more than 3 stars because of some of the home made dishes that seem to be expensive and a fraud.. sorry but that’s a fact.. don’t buy piftie here. It’s not made as it’s supposed to.. they throw gelatin packs in it with boiled meat.. that’s not how you make that dish… also the cabanoși aren’t fresh. You can see the fresh in the display but you get the dried out old ones.

You absolutely must get the homemade hummus from here. See if you can come early enough for the fresh, fluffy pitas too--they go away fast but if you can snag them they're delish.
I tend to stick to the frozen or shelf stable stuff. Produce and bakery have some freshness issues and the staff doesn't seem to want you here.

Do not be misled by the name! This is a great GROCERY store for all those East of Germany! Very good feta, rye and pita breads, European mustards, etc. even pelmeni. Very happy to have found this place
