I visited Parts and Service Bar and Grill last night, with a couple friends. A new motorcycle themed social spot that promises to show televised motorcycle races? Of course I'd come all the way from Hillsboro to come check it out!
Being the end of January, 2021, the pandemic response is still in effect. So no inside seating. But the interior decor is pleasing, and I look forward to visiting when inside seating is one again possible. For now, there's a couple of pop-up covers over four four-person tables out on the extended sidewalk space. There's radiant heaters to take some of the chill off - but the pop-up isn't quite big enough to cover the four tables. So...if it's raining (as it was last night), then half the tables have one side that gets rained on.
The staff I met and the owner, Brandon, were friendly. Veronica, the bartender, poured and made our drinks. There's only four taps, and they are rotated. Last night there were three beers and a hard cider. I decided to have the dry cider. It was good. I wish I caught the name of the maker. I'll just have to go back. There's also bottled domestic beers, wine, and...Parts and Service's own craft cocktails. More on that later. The other staff person I met was Sage, the pitmaster. What an appropriate name!
For food, I ordered the queso & chips - with optional ground chorizo added. I also ordered the spare ribs. The queso was of generous quantity, with plenty of chorizo. It was good. The chips, however, were a bit disappointing. While they had good flavor, they were fragile and mostly broken. I'd recommend looking for a corn chip that is a little more durable and still has good flavor. I wouldn't serve the chips I was given. The pork spareribs were tender and tasty, but extremely over spiced with ground black pepper. I spoke to Sage about it, and he agreed. He told me that they had to make do with what they got locally, but he has 75 lbs of spice mix coming from Austin. I look forward to trying the spareribs again.
The cocktails were excellent! I only had one, the Royal Enfield, but it was a great bourbon drink, served with a single big rock (just the way i like it). A friend had the Suzuki Hayabusa, and said it was very good also. And the third friend had the Triumph. It was good, but not as good as the Royal Enfield - which was our table's favorite. The cocktail prices are reasonable (for Portland), as well. See photo of the drink menu for cocktail descriptions.
I know I pointed out some flaws - but it was opening weekend. I'm sure it will get better, and I look forward to checking back!
