Passyunk Avenue Kensington - Review - Kensington - London - The Infatuation

"This Kensington spot is the fifth Passyunk Avenue to open in the city. We’re fans of the Fitzrovia and Stratford locations of this Philadelphia-inspired dive bar, and their life-size cutouts of Danny DeVito, classic Philly cheesesteaks, and buffalo wings. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sinéad Cranna

Passyunk Avenue in Kensington offers an authentic taste of Philadelphia right in the heart of London. I visited with friends and was impressed by their range of American comfort food, attentive service, and lively atmosphere. We started with the Philly Quesadilla, filled with Prime Steak, sautéed onions, and chillies, served with Pico de Gallo and Sour Cream on the side. The cheese pulled perfectly with every bite. The steak was tender, and the hint of chilli gave it a satisfying kick without overpowering the flavour. It was a strong start to our meal. Next, we ordered a mix of wings. The 6 Buffalo Wings, tossed in their house Buffalo Sauce, were excellent. They had that authentic American-style tang and spice, served with celery and Ranch dip, which complemented them perfectly. We also tried 6 Old Bay Wings, which were naked and tossed in Old Bay spices. These had a distinctive seasoning and were equally tasty, offering a nice contrast to the Buffalo ones. My friend went for the SmashYUNK Burger. It came with two all-beef patties, American cheese, sauerkraut, onions, and Russian dressing. He decided to add an extra patty, and it turned out to be a great decision. The burger was stacked, juicy, and well-balanced in flavour, with the sauerkraut adding a pleasant tang. He rated it highly. I went for the Classic Cheesesteak, which is their signature dish and what they are best known for. It is served on a custom hoagie roll, filled with Prime Steak, onions, and their homemade cheddar WIZ cheese sauce. The first one that arrived was unfortunately too salty, but the staff handled it well and replaced it quickly without any fuss. The second one was just right, packed with flavour and perfectly balanced. The steak was tender, and the cheese sauce tied everything together. You could tell why this is their headline item. The service throughout our meal was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well looked after. They checked in regularly without being intrusive, and their handling of the cheesesteak issue showed great professionalism. Passyunk Avenue has a relaxed and welcoming vibe, with décor that gives off a true American bar feel. It’s casual but full of energy, ideal for a meal with friends or a relaxed evening out. The portions are generous, and the food lives up to its promise of bringing regional American classics to London. It’s worth noting that all the Steak and Chicken served here are Halal, which makes it an easy choice for many diners who want to enjoy authentic Philly flavours without compromise. Overall, Passyunk Avenue Kensington delivers on flavour, authenticity, and service. The Quesadilla and Buffalo Wings stood out, and once corrected, the Cheesesteak lived up to its reputation. It’s a place that takes its food seriously but keeps the experience fun and friendly. If you’re looking for genuine Philly-style eats or some of the best wings in London, this spot is worth visiting. I’ll definitely be returning.

What an amazing vibe! The food is a solid 10/10, and the staff’s energy and friendliness are just as perfect. Honestly, what’s not to love? We enjoyed it so much that we went back, and we’ll definitely be back again! The cheesesteak sandwich is an absolute must-try, and the buffalo wings were the best we’ve ever had. The only dish that didn’t quite hit the mark for us was the aubergine, but everything else more than made up for it.

Went in at happy hour, good atmosphere especially for a Cubs fan (even though I wore a dodgers cap that day, what can I say it was raining 🤪) really good Old Fashioned cocktails (Eagle Rare) and it was wing Wednesday! So how could we not try them, a little overcooked but the seasoning more than made up for it (Buffalo/Dry Rub). Barman was really nice and helpful too, will definitely go back

I visited for lunch on a Friday. The decor was very much American sports bar, with memorabilia (and $1 bills) plastered all over the wall and a baseball game playing on multiple TV screens. Between me and my wife we ordered the buffalo wings and a classic cheesesteak with some tater tots. The cheesesteak is massive and definitely better suited for sharing unless you’re particularly famished. It was quite nice though, with tender and well seasoned beef pairing well with the onions and cheese (“Wiz”) sauce. The other items were similarly enjoyable. Our very friendly server was American and the food was delivered quickly. It should be noted that we were the only people in there at the time. The bill for our lunch came to £59 of which £15 was spent on drinks. Overall a very enjoyable and filling lunch for a reasonable price. I liked the vibe of the place, it felt like we had stepped back into the US for an hour or so. The lack of other customers was a bit odd but I was told they are busier on evenings and weekends. I live locally and will definitely return. 4.5 stars.

American that lived in Philadelphia here. After living abroad for over three years, this place feels like home away from home. Food is amazing and the wait staff are attentive and just so accomodating and lovely (shoutout to Kristen and Tim you're the bomb.com). Highly highly recommend for everyone American or not, portions are great and reasonably priced, American sports on the TV and great music and vibes. If I lived in London this would be my go to bar.

Took my 10 year old and some adult friends to watch the Eagles Game this past Sunday and we all had a great time. The food was great (it’s consistently solid) and the service again, was wonderful. It’s a friendly American sports bar vibe. Our server was from Rhode Island and was always nearby if the kids needed extra napkins or the adults needed another libation. In a city full of chain restaurants always trying to “sell a brand”; Passyunk Ave is a delicious dose of authenticity and a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Have not yet tried it but word is they do a killer breakfast sandwich.
