Past Time Club

Was in town for a bachelorette party and this bar made it extra awesome, especially for putting up with our “stroke or tap” game. But serious question, if there is a bush and you only shave one side, it is now two face. Which side is the ugly side: bald or hairy? Shaylyn (sp?) and Mike were awesome bar tenders! Tell Steve we said hi! Maybe ask him the question, would love his input! Stay cool! 🤘

After a bit of a false start to our evening elsewhere, The Pastime Club ended up being exactly what we needed. We stopped in while waiting for a table nearby and were immediately welcomed by Jeff, who set the tone for the rest of the night. Relaxed, friendly, and genuinely present. No rush, no attitude, just solid hospitality. The space itself has that classic Truckee character. Lively but not chaotic. Easy to settle into. The kind of place where you can actually exhale, have a conversation, and reset your evening. Jeff made us feel like locals passing through, not tourists killing time, and that matters. Sometimes a great drink and the right person behind the bar can completely change the direction of a night, and this was one of those times. I’d absolutely stop back in again, whether waiting on a table or just looking for a good place to start or end the evening in Truckee.

We were walking down the street, wanting to find a bar for a fun night out. We heard a hip hop song through the doors and a friendly bouncer interacted with us and charmed us in as we walked passed it. We sat down and the vibes were just right. A hometown bar with fun murals and knickknacks. We sat down and were surprised to hear R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, and Hyphy music. The bouncer turned bartender was a true highlight of the bar and he made us feel oh so welcomed! We ended up staying through a few lull moments and busy moments. We thought our night was winding down, then a DJ set up and the bar was PACKED! The DJ played to the crowd wonderfully and made the vibes immaculate, EVERYONE was dancing. Don’t leave without getting taking a Shotski with your friends!

I was told this was a dog friendly bar, so I brought my 6mo lab in so I could get a few drinks and socialize her. We ordered drinks and when my mom went to the bathroom, she let out a quiet bark. There were very few people in the bar, one of them being an off shift bartender named Jeff. Jeff was super rude and off-putting, saying things like “you shouldn’t bring your dog into a bar” and refusing to let the other bartender give her a treat to calm her nerves. He was clearly in a mood and drinking didn’t seem to help him. Being drunk at his place of work and scaring off paying customers on a slow night is not a great look for him, or the bar that employs him. I’m very conscious that my dog is not a service animal, and I would never bring her into places that were not specifically pet friendly. Had I known this bar (more so this off shift bartender) was not pet friendly, I would’ve never brought her in. A really terrible experience for me and my mother who drove 4+ hours to visit my sister in Truckee. Please have the owner update their pet policy if only perfectly trained dogs (aka service animals) are allowed in. And to Jeff, she IS a GOOD dog whose still learning to navigate the world. I’m really sorry you felt like you needed some sort of control in your life as a bartender at your big age, I hope that weird power trip made you feel better. Next time skip the drink after work and be miserable at home, the paying customers deserve to have a good experience despite your personal issues.

Chill place to go out and have fun. Came here during the labor day weekend. Best time and the bar tender was super cool and friendly.

Friendly locals bar. Great microbrew selection. Jukebox. Pool table and shuffleboard. Dog friendly. We love stopping through for a libation pitstop, returning from regular sojourns to and from Reno.

Dive bar ALERT. This is a GREAT dive bar. Lots of character, pool table, shuffleboard, generous pours, friendly bartenders.

Open Mic on Sunday nights was canceled years ago. Too bad because it was really fun and they have a fine sound system. Current phone number listing of (530)582-9219 no longer works. I'm not sure they're still in business, so check first before planning an outing there.

Best dive bar in the area!! Bartender was amazing, she made us feel at home!! and they have shuffle board!!

Long over due review.. Watching the bartender touch his hair then touch our garnishes was horrific especially because he looked and smelt like a homeless off the street. Apparently he knows nothing about food safety, yes it's a bar but it applies. He said his name was Tony, not sure if he still works there but just FYI hair should always be pulled back if you can't keep it groomed, cut it. I understand that I shouldn't expect much from a dive/"club" but there should still be some professionalism and standards.

Horrific place! Terrible service, unfriendly staff and just an overall terrible experience. There is one bouncer who has a beard and thinks he is on duck dynasty, avoid him at all costs. He has zero business working in the restaurant/bar industry and is just an overall bad person. Do not go here.

This place has great customer service. They also are very knowledgeable with nearby venues! Jeff was awesome and we definitely recommend this place!!!

My daughter dragged me into this dive bar, because they had live music on a Saturday evening. I was kinda skeptical about what the crowd would be like. My girl said, "Mom, the owner is from Los Gatos, and is really nice" and he gave her a free T-shirt. I liked it there, it's a long bar and small but they have the band squeezed in the front corner by the door. I found the crowd to be mixed and fun, but this was just one particular night. Be prepared to stand if it's crowded, spots at the bar are $$ real estate. Fun.

On vacation we stopped by for a bit on Halloween night loved the music, people were friendly but the female bartender dressed as chucky was having a bad night I guess was extremely rude. We had a great time other than that

Grabbed a drink. Place was mostly empty but within 5 mins 20 people came in. Bar maid was quick and didn't get flushered. Dive bar. Will go again

Went here on a Saturday night with a few buddies, we stayed for a beer which is more time than we should have spent in this place. Went in planning to play some pool but the place wasn't exactly welcoming to people from out of town. Once we left and got out the door someone sitting at the bar promptly said to the bouncer "I can't believe you let those guys in here" to which he said "they just walked right in". To be clear no one was "guarding" the door when we got there. Don't waste your time or money here and go to the tourist club.

If you love a good afterparty dive bar with pool and games... you will love this place! We were on a ski trip and came here two nights in the a row. No craft cocktails but basic well drinks are well priced and it gets scenery at night for sure.

Not a bad bar. It's nicely tucked away from the downtown strip. The bartender was kind of on the colder side and brought us our check after one round, it made us feel like she didn't want us there. We decided to play buck hunter in the back and got a few more rounds and she warmed up. I get that people from the Bay Area are annoying but we're just southerners having a good time and enjoying truckee. We loved the beer and decor, maybe a little less judgment on the tourists would be nice...

Very friendly bar tenders, who always remember when you come back. Great pricing for the area and every night is a different experience. Depending on the bartender with kelly or Keith, it can be new age up beat to old school and more. Sunday's are open mic night and they welcome people from far and wide but have some locals who are really great! Come support the local business and have a fun time!

So...it's mid-May, and we've decided Reno would be a great place for a bachelor party. Or rather, the bachelor has. So, being mid-may, we grab our golf clubs, board shorts, and drinking shoes and head east up the hill. Long story short, coming home, epic hangover in heads, we get trapped on 80 east due to an unforseen snowstorm. 80 is shut the F down. We don't move for what seems an eternity. Facebook updates us on the other wagons in our modern day Donner party and we elect to fall back to Truckee and wait it out. So we walk in and the bartender is helpful, compassionate, and even lets us order pizza from the new pizza place down the street and have it delivered. Awesome. Soon, nearly the entire bachelor party is hanging their heads over pizza and cold beers at the bar. The hangover didn't recede, but things could have been worse. Thanks Pastime club for the hospitality!

I heard the bartender Nutter is not a real Ginger, dyes his hair red, and is not really from Boston. He's from someplace like Quincy, which sucks. Will somebody please break Tom Brady's leg. Go Sox!

A gift that keeps on giving. No, not in that way - stories is what I'm talking about. Went in with my wife - she ordered a blended drink. Owner told her the first thing they did was rip the blenders out of the wall. Thats what I call a great start to an evening! The owner is a quality guy who ALWAYS looks out for the best interests of the patrons. Go, drink, enjoy. Leave the bad attitude at the door.

I LOVE this place! For the past 7yrs or so I've been a regular at the Sunday night Open Mic where I perform playing guitar and singing. GREAT sound system for all performers. The Open Mic is always hosted by someone who is both nice and an accomplished musician. Super nice people most of whom are less than half my age (I'm 75) always make me feel welcome. Did I mention that I LOVE this place?

This is about as good of a dance party you'll find anywhere in the lovely village of Truckee, California. After a long day of eating ribs at the Nugget Rib Cook Off in Sparks, Nevada, the natural next step was to find a hyphey dance floor to shake a tail feather for a few hours, right? Well, not so much... bopping around after eating my weight in ribs was an adventure to say the least, but that doesn't mean I wasn't having a blast! (At this time, I'd like to take a moment to thank my sponsor, Pepto Bismol, for making this night/review happen without something very, very embarrassing happening in public.) The hottest DJ in all of Truckee was in the house spinning top 40 jams with the ferociousness of a manatee in heat. From Lil' John to Usher to Justin Timberlake... the man behind the laptop was bringing the heat and left little room to catch your breath for even 0:30 seconds between songs in the thin air of Northern California. I do use the term "DJ" lightly, as he was literally sitting behind a Mac, clicking on another song once the previous song ended. Don't think he'll be giving Cascade a run for his money anytime soon, but hey - it is what it is. If you're not in to the dance party, apparently they have live music during the week, as well as a shuffleboard table in the corner for the gamer types. Pair those entertaining pieces with stiff, cheap cocktails... and you have yourself a pretty fun way to spend an evening in a small town on the California/Nevada border.

Great little spot for live music. Was there last weekend to see DJ R-O live (www.djr-o.com) and it rocked. I don't live in area, but every time I go I have a great time. Be sure to check out Keith's Shuffle puck table and order some 'Sharks Shots' (in honor of the SJ Sharks). I even ran into 4 Olympic medalists and the owner of Squaw Valley -- apparently it's the locals spot too.

Super like this place - i dropped bye to see what the deal was and how much of a dive bar it was and it's not bad - they have a couple HDTV and their friendly as well as fair with prices. But when you're in truckee expect to pay more....

okay I admit that I like shitty dive bars. I feel at home in them. they comfort me in times of need. the pastime club is no exception to this rule. it has a nice long bar to belly up to, insane shots, bottles of cheap american domestic beer made from rice, and a brass pole at one end which by the looks of it gets used frequently enough by buzzed ladies with enough gusto to keep it shiny! a 70's era ironhead is mounted above the bar, giving the place that biker feel that warms my heart. live music gives this place a nice vibe to wind down dive-style after a day of snowboarding or snowmobiling or gambling in Reno or whatever.

Let's be honest, there are not a lot of places to go in Truckee to wet your whistle. But this is not a "by default" 4 star rating but an honest "I like this place" 4 star rating. It is kind of dive-ish but definitively not a dive like you find in a bigger city. The place has some natural charm and style along with fairly friendly people and a nice small town vibe. But because of the level of tourism the crowd is varied and looking for fun. Good music, nice bar service, and the drinks were not overpriced!

Great dive bar in downtown Truckee. Live Music. Decent drinks. There is a cover charge ($3). This is a bar that draws all types. I find myself people watching a whole lot here. I want to know what gets you on the long "lame" list that is posted at the end of the bar. LOTS of names on it. I assume that it is a list of people that have been 86'd, but not sure. There were an awful lot of extremely drunk people the last time I visited, but no additions to the list.....

Good times! Drop Theory brought the magic & the people were getting down. If you are in town & they are playing, get yer butt over there & dance. Cheap drinks, pool table & funkadelic locals - think Out Cold (that movie w/ Galifiniakis, a London brother & Lt. Dangle), not Misery.

Maybe we hit it on an off night (Wednesday) but I have to say I expected a lot more based on the other reviews I read here on Yelp. The service was horrible. The drinks mediocre. No food. The pluses were that they had a shuffleboard table which we didn't have a chance to play as well as the pool table which was occupied. But still nice to see in there. Also, the place was a cool, hole on the wall, type dive bar which I liked. Maybe on the weekend with a few more people in there, a decent bartender (who could actually remember our drinks and give correct change), and some music it could be fun but I'd avoid it mid week. Second chance, maybe. But I'll explore some other places first...

A Truckee local favorite! Good prices... good times. Usually have music going on. I've had a great time everytime I've gone. Yeah it's a dive... but those are my favorite types of bars. People here are always cool.

Wow. Nasty. I didn't know so many rednecks existed this far west. This place is the definition of a dive bar. I don't know if I expected a classy joint in Truckee, but the floor was gross and sticky, the bathroom door (a single) didn't lock, and the music playing was disgustingly country. On the plus side, they have free popcorn. On the minus side, the popcorn tastes like ass. Skip skip skip skip skip skip skip.

Love this dive bar. So what if it gets a little grimey in there? Every time I make it up to Tahoe for the weekend, its a must that we make time for at least one visit to Pastime. It's tradition. The whole place isn't that big, but the bar is long, and they've managed to fit in a small stage for bands, shuffle board, a pool table, and an arcade game. I've never had a bad time here whether its jam packed at 12:30 at night, or completely dead at 2:30 in the afternoon. The bartenders have always been friendly and chatty, and to my surprise I had one of the best bloody mary's ever. The jukebox also has a good mix of both newer stuff and awesome classics. What is not to like? The pours are heavy, the crowd is local, and the music is loud! After a day riding it pretty much is the cure for sore muscles. The owners tend the bar and you can always find your lost id and credit card the next day...not that I know from personal experience or anything (I blame the fact that when I am not looking the bar tender refills my drink as if I am at his party)! If you prefer upscale head a bit farther down the block to Moody's.

Went camping up at the Prosser Reservoir like a boss on my mountain bike, but forgot to bring water like a chump so I found myself in downtown Truckee on a Friday night in need of hydration. First stop was the Circle K for Fiji, and suddenly I found myself needing something a little harder. A quick Google search for local dive bars suggested that I visit the Tourist Club but I happened upon this place first and noted only three patrons present, all of them this famous California Girls. I entered to some generic hip hop soundtrack and being an ever vigilant, highly motivated individual, I set aside my reservations and bellied up to the bar, because this is Truckee, goddamnit. I ordered a PBR to slake my awful thirst, and wouldn't you know it, pardner, one of those pretty young maidens immediately asked to see the knife at my hip. I was out camping, after all. The PBR was ice cold and very delicious though I noted that they had much finer fare available on tap including offering from Deschutes Brewery (Obsidian, Mirror Pond and Fresh Squeezed if memory serves, three of my favorite brews) as well as Arrogant Bastard Ale, my very favorite, but when one has a five mile bike ride in the dark ahead of one's self, it's sometimes more prudent to stick to something a little tamer then those hardy concoctions. I threw a couple bucks into the Internet jukebox and ordered up Lakinis Juice by Live which was a mistake, that song us much better through headphones but came back strong with L'Enfant Sauvage by Gojira and then Love Hate Love by Alice in Chains. The bar keep gave a thumbs up to the Gojira, which is rare, my friends, so I cued up The Art of Dying followed by Blackwater Park from Opeth just as some trailhands sauntered in. No one complained, no one ran away and no one turned the volume down, and to a Metal aficionado like yours truly, that's the mark of a Good Bar. I'll be back again, thanks for the memories!

Cool bar right in Old Town Truckee. It's easy to pass this place up. It's popular with the locals. Met Lamont & Dino - 2 very down to earth bartenders. A group of women came in looking for "fancy" drinks and they walked out to go to Moody's. I guess The Past Time was not good enough for them. Just my kind of bar! Casual, good beer, & good people =)

The Pastime is a good bar. For those people who call it a dive bar, what is your standard for a regular bar? A ritzy fucking wine bar in Napa? This is another local hangout of Truckee, filled with the seasonal mountain people working the ski resorts (at least in the winter when I ave been there). Th shuffle board is fun, and they have a pool table.

I went there over Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed the place. I was drawn in by the live music, but it wasn't that boring bar music you can hear in anyone of the thousands and thousands of bars in the US. It was more lively and had a bit of character to it with the added instruments like the saxaphone and the tamporine with musicians moving dynamically to the beat. It was very entertaining to listen to. The place is a bit small but not to small to solicit a diverse crowd. This bar held any kind of person from the local to the spoiled hottie to the 50 year old couple trying to be young again. It actually is a rather compelling place to go. The only knock I have against the place is that it looks like so many other bars. Sure it has random props to entice a conversation and has a few signs that draw a laugh but it was all to predictable. And not in a resort town sort of way where you would expect snowboards and skiis to hang from the ceiling but rather predictable in the average-town sort of way. All that being said a good time is in store for anyone who decides to go.

Local dive bar. The bartender was super friendly. I had a few conversations with the locals. They have a pole on the bar and apparently sometimes people use it. They seem to have music and open mic nights as well.

This is the Best Bar* in Truckee! Its a just a home town bar, where both locals and visitors alike can hangout and have a drink..or two. This is not a Dive Bar! That would be the Tourist Club, which is where stinky old men, cougars, drunkards, and hobos go...to sing karaoke. If you are a Yuppie, and don't mind paying more for the same beer, you now belong at Bar of America. BofA used to be the home town bar but due to price increase and more tourists it is no longer so. They dish up some great live bands and dj sets. It is the middle of the road (literally) its a great place to start and a perfect place to end!

Was given a hard time at the door apon first entry to get in. Born and raised in this town. gone in many many times and never had a very decent experience. Won't be going in no longer from this point foward after tonight.

Terrible service. Bartenders had nasty demeanors and attitudes. They acted bothered and like they not only hated people and their jobs but also their lives in general. The bathroom has puke in it. Half the people there seemed like they were on crack. Definitely not my idea of a good time.

Love it! Stopped for a quick beer while strolling around Truckee. Came in because the music was awesome. It's dive-lite...pool tables, shuffle board, knic knacks but still clean and cool clientele. Within seconds the bartender gave us swag (beer coozies, t shirts, etc). Small but really good tap selection. The employees and (i think?) owner are all really cool. I dig it. I dont come to Truckee much...but i'll be back if I do!

If you are headed to Reno or just passing by Truckee on the freeway you have to pull off into old town and visit. Great little shops and you MUST stop and have a drink at the Pastime Club. It's atmosphere fits perfect with this area and the locals are willing to chat about living in Truckee and are very friendly. A must visit if you are ready for a drink and in the area.

My best friend, his mom, and I went to this for the first time. It was so much fun! I was one of their first performers at this bar for "Open Mic Night" and collaborated with a talented musician who happened to be there. I performed with one cover and one original song, as the guy (Trent) played guitar. Practicing was worth it, the staff were friendly, and I recommend anyone to check it out, whether you're a tourist or local. Just remember to smile and have your ID ready!

We were looking for an unpretentious bar - aka a dive bar - and we found it! The bartender was friendly. The locals were tolerant. My friends had tequila shots, I had a bottle of Bud. We found the juke box and started playing some tunes. While we were playing it, one of our former down home locals walked in the bar. He wanted to order shots for us and for him but the bartender reminded him that she couldn't let him drink shots because of "last time." I knew that he had landed in good space where people didn't just take his money but watched out for him. Nice time.

Wound up there again the Bar tender was great. We had a real conversation had a very good time. Change of heart bad timing last time. Still think the three year locals suck but at least not as bad as the t club

Ahhh the P-time. Weekends are almost always packed. Weekdays, hangin with the locals. $2 PBR's, in Truckee, unheard of. Always a great time, and usually good bands.

Definitely a local's bar. Beer selection is slanted towards cheap (6 bottled beers, 6 on draught), and they have a full liquor bar. No food.

Its a dive bar with locals (or at least I thought they were locals?). I'm not sure why they only had one Bartender on a busy night, that kind of sucked (main reason for 3 stars). It just didn't make much sense that they had 4 bouncers and one Bartender. Still love the dive bar.

I need to go back here...was already a few sheets to the wind when I was there, but the band was good...Quick and good service. Then dragged out by husband who had to drive...boo hoo.

When it is -8 degrees in Truckee you will literally hop from bar to bar all the way down the strip to keep from walking more than 50 feet in the howling wind. And that's how I ended up in every bar along the strip in Truckee. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Great dive bar. Friendly people behind the bar, in front of the bar and playing music. I'm a social guy. I like being social. And Pastime was social right back at me.
