I was in the mood for Italian, so I decided to try something new. After a quick search, I landed on Pasta Corner, which had decent reviews and a very extensive menu of pastas (lots of veg options, which made us all excited). But as soon as we arrived the empty restaurant should have been a red flag. We brushed it off, assuming it was just because they were closing soon. I wish that had been the case.
It was a family-style dinner where we ordered garlic bread, a veggie pizza, Lumache Pink Vodka Sauce, Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe, and Pappardelle Pesto Burrata. Unfortunately, the food was a massive letdown. Below average, overpriced, and definitely not worth the $30-per-pasta price tag.
The Garlic Bread was the collective favorite, which isn't saying much. It's hard to mess up bread toasted with garlic, parsley, and lots of cheese, but even then, it was under seasoned. Still, it was crispy and cheesy, which at that point felt like a win compared to the rest.
I didn't bother trying the pizza, but it looked incredibly sad--soggy and flavorless, according to the others.
The Vodka Sauce Pasta, supposedly their signature dish, was a disaster. The sauce had a strange brownish tint, lacked any creaminess or tomato flavor, and had an odd masala-like aftertaste.
The Cacio e Pepe was slightly better but still underwhelming--dry, underseasoned, and lacking the creamy cheesiness it needed.
The Pesto Burrata Pasta was the best of the mains. It was creamy, and you could taste the pesto, but it was still on the blander side and could have used more sauce. The burrata on top was stale-ish and unappetizing, which didn't help.
The food wasn't outright terrible, but it wasn't good either. For the price, it was downright disappointing. New York has too many amazing Italian restaurants for places like this to exist.
