The Best Restaurants to Try in LA’s Little Tokyo | Eater LA

"Pasta e Pasta by Allegro is a Japanese take on Italian food. Regular customers here are divided into two camps: those who swear allegiance to the mentai Japanese cream pasta and those who preach uni pasta superiority. With the bold and creamy flavors in both dishes, however, neither side is mistaken and everyone wins." - Kimberly Madrid

Even if you're not familiar with Pastas, give it a try. I love Mentai cream pasta the best but I loved Bolognese pasta too.

I’ve passed by this place so many times and finally decided to try it. I’m glad I did. I love Italian food so I was interested to see what a Japanese twist tastes like. To start off, I walked here but I can tell that parking is kind of tough. When you get there, you check in on a self- service kiosk. I was in a party of two so the wait time on a Saturday night around 7 was about 10 minutes. We sat at the bar top with an unobstructed view of the kitchen which was really nice. The wait staff are all very friendly and the speed of service is fast. But the quality of the food is amazing! The burrata itself is 10/10. I tried a red sauce and cream sauce pasta and would definitely recommend the cream sauce more. Would highly recommend.

Pasta e Pasta by Allegro is a hidden gem for Japanese-style pasta lovers! The pastas are rich, flavorful, and beautifully plated — perfect for a cozy date night. The space is on the smaller side, but it adds to the intimate, relaxed vibe. The staff were super kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. Be prepared for a wait — the line can be long, but totally worth it once you’re seated. A must-visit if you’re craving something unique and comforting!

Google
best pasta I’ve had in a hot minute. this is an italian-japanese fusion restaurant that focuses more on traditional Italian pasta but incorporating some ingredients and flavors of Japanese cuisine into their offerings. every entree comes with a small salad + bread as starter. great value for lunch. this place and marugame monzo are my two go-to restaurants in little tokyo.

This pasta place has been in business for a long long time located in this small plaza near the Japanese village. Parking can be a "b*tch" because its small so you might expect to park somewhere further away. Sunday is free for parking on the street and in their small parking lot. This place is not that big and it can get super busy and cramp up in there HOWEVER it should not affect how good their pasta is. Their ambiance and setting in it looks like youre in Italy. They have many different options and I would try something new or different everytime I come. Their bacon mushroom pasta is good, carbonara is good and 2 of their best must be mentai cream and squid ink pasta. The hype, food quality and settings are all worthy of 5 stars and beyond especially when the prices is decent comparing to other places that have skyrocketed their prices on the menu. Just the parking...good luck with that!

Google
I went there during a Saturday around 2pm and was able to get seating at the bar. I got the garlic oil aioli with tuna and my girlfriend got the mental cream pasta. Both dishes were excellent. The pasta was al dente and soaked up all the sauce. Definitely will go again to try the other dishes on the menu.

Google

Google
Enjoyed a yummy dinner for my first visit. I ordered the popular uni cream pasta. I really like fusion of flavors and the Japanese and Italian combo intrigued me. The pasta was perfectly al dente and chewy. The cream sauce was rich and flavorful. The uni flavor wasn't strong and was very subtle. I wanna try their other famous dishes like the mentai next time around. Service was prompt and friendly.

Google
I love Japanese style pasta, and if you’ve never tried it you definitely should! Lovely interesting fusion of Japanese and Italian flavors.

Yelp
Reminders to myself. Bolognese - savory, meaty sauce with earthy taste to it. Eggplants in it but has more of a mushroom/truffle taste to it Mentai Japanese cream - creamy, buttery sauce but not overly rich. Just right. Yum Noodles themselves were okay. Cooked aldente. Not personal preference for taste or texture.

Yelp
One of the only places I know of in LA that does Japanese-Italian fusion pasta, and they blow it out of the water with their simple but delicious menu. Food: 5/5. My favorites are the mentai, bacon/mushroom Japanese style pasta, and bolognese. The uni pasta is probably their most popular but I haven't tried it. If you're feeling adventurous, get the chicken gizzard appetizer for a tender, rich treat. All pasta comes with bread and salad, which are pretty average but still nice to have. Service: 3.5/5. When dining in, service is fine. They're quick to take your order and it doesn't take long for the food to come out. But they should really implement an online takeout order system. They only take orders by phone, which can be tough if it's super busy. Ambiance: 4/5. Very cozy interior, with a few 2-top tables along the wall and bar seating to the right. There are more tables that can fit larger parties in the back area.

Yelp
Food: I am usually very partial to Japanese Italian fusion pasta, and I believe this place was the epitome of their craft. Came here with my fiance and a mutual friend, all the food was exceptional and amazing! The bread came out warm and soft, crab meat gratin was so creamy and melted away in my mouth, definitely a must appetizer to start off the meal, and finally, oh my goodness, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, sauce was not too overbearing but just enough to really grasp the taste of buttery mentai. Price: gratin cost $10.80, uni pasta was $24, and my mental cream pasta was $16, which are all reasonable prices considering how good they taste Ambiance: dimly lit inside but clean, the front area is mostly a narrow bar, but there is a backyard with about 5 more tables. It's usually packed with a lot of people and may have some wait time, although we only waited about less than 30 minutes before being seated. Great place to catch up with friends or for a more casual date night, my fiance actually ran into some people he recognized from undergrad lol, small world Service: good, no issues with ordering or getting our food or having our waters refilled Parking: there is a decent sized parking lot that is associated with the restaurant and the plaza, but it was super packed. Had to go somewhere else to find parking, we got really lucky and found free street parking not too far away, but most people end up paying for nearby public lots

Yelp
Walked in on a random Tuesday night and it was packed but we luckily got the last table available so we didnt have to wait. I have been wanting to try this place for so long now! We ordered the crab cheese gratin, the uni pasta, and the mentai pasta. We also got served side salad and bread. Side salad and bread were amazing, the bread is crispy on the outside and super soft inside. Our food came out quickly as well. The uni was good, but it needed more cream and more uni pieces as I was scraping to find more flavor elsewhere. Its kind of a plain pasta as a whole since it doesnt come with anything else but I liked how the pasta was cooked perfectly. The mentai pasta had so much more of a flavor profile and came with seaweed, mushrooms, etc. The flavor was very umami and the pasta was cooked perfectly here too! Our least favorite dish was the appetizer, there was 0 pieces of crab, too cheesy and had a weird burned aftertaste after every bite. It must be our preference because it wasnt our thing and we had a hard time finishing it. I would come here again to try other things on the menu. Portions are okay. They look alot bigger in pictures but they got those illusion plates. Solid spot for a yummy pasta! Friendly and quick service~

Yelp
Fast, friendly service seated quickly no waiting. Each entrée come with salad and bread. We got the Tarocco spaghetti which has Karo and squid, garlic butter sauce and also a squid ink with tomato sauce pasta. Food was delicious i'd like the salad dressing. and there's a private parking lot. I forgot to ask if they validate parking.

Yelp
As a pasta lover, this place is worth coming to. Me and my girlfriend ordered creamy crab meat gratin, mentaiko pasta, and uni pasta. The creamy crab meat gratin was delicious, It live up to the expectations of it being creamy. The uni pasta was very delicious also. It was packing with sea urchin flavor and was very creamy. For mentaiko, it was very very flavorful and packing a punch! Service here was so friendly and nice. The waitress and cooks all say hi to you and made sure you had a wonderful eating experience here. Ambiance was like eating at a small Japanese cafe in Japan. I love the vibes that they brought.

Yelp
Pasta e pasta is popping and for good reason. For starters, everyone loves Japanese Italian fusion. For starters, we opted for a crab meat gratin which was spectacular. Nothing was spared, and the bread was used to soak up any leftover sauce. Crab meat went pretty hard with the gratin so yeah, would recommend. I got the Uni pasta which phew, you taste the uni but the sauce coats the pasta so well too. Did I mention the pasta itself has impeccable texture? Yeah, so perfect pasta, light but delicious sauce, and uni all combines to make my dear taste buds dance in joy. My girlfriend always wants mentai pasta so guess what she got? Mentai pasta. But well worth it cause same thing: perfect pasta, amazing mentai cream sauce that isn't hefty or heavy, and, well, just perfect balancing of flavors. Anyway, what more needs to be said? This is delicious pasta in Little Tokyo where it's excessively crowded but this is worth the experience if you haven't been before.

Yelp
Pasta e pasta has been sitting in my bookmarks for a while, and I am so glad I finally made the trip! I have been raving about this place ever since and have been dying to go back. We came here for dinner on a Sunday and arrived earlier to avoid the wait. Not to be dramatic, but the mentai cream pasta here is truly life-changing. It is definitely the star of the show here and is not to be missed. The sauce is creamy and briny from the mentaiko (without being too fishy) and the spaghetti for all their dishes is cooked to a perfect al dente. Such an elegant yet comforting plate of pasta. We also ordered the Japanese-style bacon and mushroom pasta to try a non-cream based pasta dish. This was also very good and tasted just like you'd expect. They serve complimentary bread and salad with a delicious salad dressing. I recommend saving some of the bread to mop up the pasta sauce later. The interior is cozy and inviting, and the service here is great. There is a parking in the long lot right out front but you may need to get lucky with finding a spot.

Yelp
We got here a little after 5pm and were seated immediately for two. It is very cute and cozy inside. We got the bacon and mushroom Japanese style pasta (top) and I don't remember what the other one was (something with mushrooms and the sauce was creamy) BUT THESE WERE BOTH PHENOMENAL. I usually am not a fan of mushrooms and its taste, but I crave these all the time. They both had its own distinct flavor and it was sooo yummy. I had this earlier this month so I cannot be detailed but I am for sure coming back.

Yelp
Been here twice and both times have delivered! We had a 100 minute wait per Yelp waitlist, so we went to Angel city right next door and got a drink which was not a bad way to kill time! After that we were seated and ordered 4 pasta dishes which was plenty for 4 people. The ambiance is simple and clean. Free bread and salad are included which was excellent. We got the bolognese, Japanese mentaiko, uni, and pesto. All were hits and very delicious, each one of us had a different favorite, so I really feel like it comes down to preference. We had a hair in our pasta but the staff quickly replaced the dish within 10 minutes which was great. Will be back and highly recommend!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get uni and mentaiko pasta! I think it's the best in all of LA! That's saying a lot from this uni snob. I've tried their other items on their menu but these 2 types of pastas are their standouts. The parking lot is tight but there are parking spots down the right corner that people often overlook. For large parties there is space in the back of the restaurant for 9 pple but your party has to all be present to be seated. Service was prompt and they didn't mess up any of our orders. There are restrooms in the back but could be cleaned better. I think the patrons mess it up but a constant observation of the situation could be managed better by the restaurant as it was unsightly when I entered. Bathrooms are usually the first place that inspectors look at.

Yelp
What I ordered: 6/10 - Crab Gratin - $12.80 - cream/cheese heavy! - did not expect it to have penne pasta - intense crab flavor, but no evident crab lumps ** 9/10: Mentai Cream Japanese Style - $22 - very creamy and umami - tons of shimeji and baby bella mushrooms - powerful blend of mushroom and mentaiko flavor ** 8/10: Arrabiata - $16 - perfect amount of spice, but even better with additional picante oil - light smokiness from the bacon and hint of olive brine - wish it was a bit more tomato-y! 7.5/10: Tarako Spaghetti - $20 - like the mentai, but lighter with more roe flavor and squid pieces - pretty much just tastes like spaghetti tossed in cod roe - not very saucy PASTA e PASTA has been on my bucket list for the past few years now. I finally got to try it and can confirm that the hype is well deserved. The wait was not bad for 6pm on a Friday night- only 20 minutes for a party of three. Parking is $6 in the plaza, cash only! The inside is super cozy and the staff are welcoming. We were seated at the bar, which had a clear view of the kitchen. Our food came pretty quickly after ordering. The Mentai pasta is truly one of the best I have ever had. Although I could easily demolish a plate by myself, it was also nice to share because the cream sauce can be a little heavy. All of our pasta was cooked and seasoned well. I would highly recommend trying if you haven't already! Food: 8/10 Service: 10/10 Total: 9/10

Yelp
They recently made it onto Yelp's Most Popular Pasta dish for their uni pasta, so I knew I had to come here. Their uni pasta was a star, but my personal favorite had to be the mentai pasta. It was so good, creamy, and filled with umami flavor. We came here on a weekday at 1PM so it wasn't too busy, but I imagine it gets busier during the weekends. Parking in the plaza is cash only, so be sure to bring cash or find street parking.

Yelp
If you're craving pasta and in the Little Tokyo area, you'll want to make a stop at Pasta e Pasta by Allegro. I made a visit on a Friday about an hour before their first closing. When I took a look at the parking lot, it said cash only. I decided to park right across in the other lot for $10. After heading inside, I was able to get seated right away. I opted to get seated at bar and was surprised that it was spacious and cozy. For food, I ordered the Mentai Japanese Cream. It took about 13 minutes for the order to come out. In the meantime, the staff did bring a house salad and bread with butter. The salad was sour and wasn't something I was interested in finishing. For the bread, it was warm and toasted. For the Mentai pasta, the portion was huge and it was creamy. I really loved the mushroom and seaweed; I think it elevates the dish! It was definitely worth the wait.

Yelp
Food 5/5: the past is perfectly seasoned, not too buttery, not too salty, not too thick. Everything was perfectly splendid is all I can say. Service 2/5: did not get water filled much, had to ask even if the restaurant wasn't busy Ambiance 3/5: tiny yet mighty place I guess

Yelp
Love pasta e pasta! I've heard great things about this spot for years and finally made it out to try it. We were able to find free street parking (Sunday) a block away instead of paying for the lot. Luckily we were a party of 2 and the wait time was only 10 mins. I think parties of 3+ waited 30 mins+! The mentai cream is an absolute must!! Add some piccante oil for more heat! Service was nice. The food was so good that we got one to-go but of course it tastes better on the spot. Will be back very soon!
google avatar

Jesus H.

Yelp
My fiancé and I have been coming here for years and we absolutely love this place! It's such a hidden gem in Little Tokyo. There are no reservations here so it's first come first serve. The place isn't too big so there's limited seating, but fortunately I've never had to wait more than 15-20 minutes. Everything we've tried here is phenomenal but one dish we always come back to is the Carbonara. It's the perfect combination of Japanese -Italian, but the same can be said about most of the dishes here. I highly recommend checking this place out and showing some love to this local gem. The inside feels reminiscent of restaurants in Japan, so if you're missing Japan I think this is a place you should check out.

Yelp
Very good pastas ! My friends and I tried three of their pastas. The uni & bolognese which are their top sellers and also their mentai pasta. All three pasta were cooked perfectly. Not too hard and not too soft. The flavors of each one was unique. The portions are pretty big in my opinion . I came on a Sunday afternoon once they opened so there was no wait.

Yelp
***Check in Yelp: 10% off your order*** First time trying this and I'm so glad I did. This place has the most savory creamy pasta I've ever tasted. I asked the waiter which is the most popular items. He recommended: Uni Pasta, Mentai Cream Japanese Style and others. He said his favorite is the Mentai. So we got the Uni Pasta and Mentai Cream. You get salad and bread with butter with every dish. Omg!!! When I say the Mentai is the best and the most umami pasta I've ever tasted.... It was soo sooo sooo good!!! It was better than the most popular Uni Pasta, I felt like. The cream of the Mentai, the little fish eggs that is mixed with the cream, the flavor, the texture.... I wanted to lick the whole plate clean!! The flavor balances everything and it's very umami strong. After tasting Mentai, the Uni Pasta was ok. The Uni pasta is still good and flavorful but it doesn't have the flavor punch that Mentai had. The noodles and cream sauce is still good. Restroom: only 1 in the restaurant Small seating areas with tables very close together. Parking is $10 flat fee. CASH only. Service: different waiters bring food and refill water constantly. Next time I'll see if I can validate it and how much they validate, since didn't know they validated parking. Con: when you pay with credit card, the person looks and stares at you intently pressuring you to pay and tip. I heard multiple stories on Yelp saying the same thing.

Yelp
Came by on a week night dinner after work. Everything was delicious and super quick. We enjoyed all the pastas we got but my favourite was the tarako spaghetti. Restaurant is cozy and intimate. Would be a nice casual date night spot or catch up dinner. Service was super quick too.
google avatar

Jorena L.

Yelp
I recommend this place to all my friends. It's a cute little Japanese Italian fusion that's super popular so make sure to join the yelp waitlist. They start you off with free bread and salad! The mentai cream Japanese style pasta was perfection. The umami rich sauce is an explosion of flavor and packed full of mushrooms. I also love the sprinkle of seaweed to add some texture. The noodles are thin but not overcooked. I recommend drizzling some picante oil when you're halfway through to add some spice and change up the flavor. This is one of the most unique pasta flavor profiles I've had and I can't wait to eat it again.
google avatar

Yelp
Pasta e pasta by Allegro had been on my list for way too long. I finally checked it out and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. We stopped in on a late Sunday evening and sat at the bar. Their service was excellent and so was the food. I am not an uni person so I did not order that, but I may try next time. We had the bolognese which was different from a traditional Italian bolognese of course. It was good and had a mild sweetness to it, but I probably wouldn't order this again, but what blew me out of the water was the number 15 mentai Japanese cream spaghetti made with a Japanese cream style sauce, cod roe and mushrooms. This dish was absolute perfection in every bite and I cannot wait to come back and have this again. Each entrée comes with bread and salad which was super yummy. We were too full for appetizers and dessert but I cannot wait to come back and try more food!

Yelp
Yummy yummy pasta here at pasta e pasta!! Everything we ordered was so delicious. Came here on a Sunday afternoon about 20 minutes after opening and the parking lot was empty and the front of the restaurant had plenty of seats. We were greeted right away by our friendly server. We ordered the cheesy crab meat gratin (9.5/10), uni pasta (9.5/10), and the mentaiko pasta (10/10). Everything was so flavorful, creamy and the pasta was perfectly Al dente. Would 100% come back here because of how everything was so delicious and the friendly service. The ambiance of the place is chill with plenty of artwork and wine to look out with nice calming music. Overall, I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Just visiting from out of town and this was our 2nd choice based on Yelp reviews and ratings for a place to eat for dinner with friends who are pescatarians. I must say that I was rather disappointed. Perhaps it is because all the reviewers are raving about the uni or mentai pastas and we did not order those. We ordered Vegetarian spaghetti, mushroom and spinach spaghetti in cream sauce, bolognese with eggplant. My 16 year old daughter had the mushroom in spinach cream sauce and she said halfway through the meal that she had flavor fatigue. The bolognese was interesting, unlike any I've had and not in a good way. I think the flavor was rather boring and mediocre. The vegetarian spaghetti in olive oil only had flavor from the small pieces of vegetables and it wasn't that great. The server indicated that the mushroom and spinach was the same sauce as the mentai. Again, not sure if it's just we didn't order this restaurant's specialties but I definitely won't return.

Yelp
I had an incredible dining experience at Pasta e Pasta by Allegro in Little Tokyo, and the Uni Pasta and Mentai Japanese Cream Pasta are absolute standouts. The Uni Pasta (Allegro Special) is a rich indulgence. The creamy uni sauce is luxurious without being overpowering, and the fresh sea urchin on top adds an extra burst of briny goodness. It's perfectly balanced with subtle hints of anchovies and garlic, making every bite heavenly. Equally impressive was the Mentai Japanese Cream Pasta, featuring a delicate, umami-packed cream sauce with cod roe. The dish also includes mushrooms, adding an earthy touch that complements the briny roe beautifully. Both dishes are accompanied by a refreshing house salad and warm bread, making for a complete and satisfying meal. The portions are generous, and the service is attentive and friendly, which adds to the cozy, communal atmosphere. Whether you're craving Italian with a Japanese twist or a creamy seafood pasta, this place hits the mark. Highly recommend trying both dishes for a delightful fusion experience!

Yelp
Went in a party of 7 and luckily got seated quickly but it's not a super big restaurant so I would be mindful of time if you plan on going here. Definitely a cute smaller place. Every pasta comes with a salad and bread, and I wasn't able to finish my carbonara because I was too full. It was good but definitely a bit heavy which is expected got carbonara. My friend got the mentai Japanese cream though which I really liked and would probably get if I go back here.
google avatar

Lyane P.

Yelp
I ordered the Japanese Mentai and my friend ordered the Tomato Cream Sauce with Shrimp and Spinach. The Mentai pasta is superb! The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and teeming with flavor. My friend loved her dish too. I was so happy that each entree comes with a salad. Service was efficient. The restaurant is pretty small, so the wait on a Thursday evening was about half an hour. Parking in the private lot is $6 paid in advance (cash only). This place is awesome and I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Tuss R.

Yelp
Listennnnnn the hype is real. This is one of the best fusion pastas I've had in a long time. Love the Japanese flavors, so so good and indulgent. Staff are so so nice. Will definitely be back soon.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Wow... I was a little hesitant at first because they use a thinner pasta and I prefer thicker ones but the Mentai pasta was amazing. The sauce was just spot on and could've eaten another plate of it. I also want to try the uni pasta but i also want to have the mentai pasta again. We hadn't really planned to come here but I'm so glad we did. It's not a very large restaurant so we had a bit of a wait but the food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. The tables are a little packed in and probably not great for large parties.
google avatar

Kevin N.

Yelp
Came here on a sat night and the wait was about 40 mins. Waiting to be seated and smelling how good the food was from the outside made us all the hungrier. This place does a tasty fusion on Japanese and Italian food and was worth the wait. Menu has your typical Italian pasta dishes but also a section for Japanese inspired variations as well. Really loved the interior as well, super warm and cozy vibes. Upon being seated they give you bread and a salad which was nice and refreshing. Side note: they have this hot oil on the side that you can put on your pasta, super good if you love adding hot sauce to making your pastas spicy! Things ordered: Mentaiko (5/5): super rich and creamy, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and added mushrooms gave a nice bite on top on the mentaiko eggs Bolognese (5/5): sauce was complex and had a nice robust flavor. Had a strong tomato flavor to it as well

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Little Tokyo for Japanese Italian food. They specialize in pastas that have a Japanese flare to them! The service is great, servers are always kind and helpful.

Yelp
Pasta e Pasta by Allegro is located at Honda Plaza strip mall in Little Tōkyō, DTLA. Long counter bar as well as tables and a larger back room with larger tables. Pleasant enough ambiance.  Lot of the food leans toward more traditional sounding Italian....Bolognese, Puttanesca, Arrabiata, Nero di Seppia, etc. However, I was more intrigued by Paste (plural of pasta) where Japanese ingredients are incorporated to create a more Giapponese-Italiana fusion style.  Spaghetti pasta here was perfectly al dente. No mushy, Chef Boyardi canned noodles here!   0) Yeasty warm roll & a cool, refreshing, crispy green salad with Umami emphasized oil & vinegar herb dressing as an entrée to the meal ahead.  1) Uni Pasta: Creamy, thick, rich sauce that incorporates Uni/sea urchin for a sweet sea minerality and light organ meat gaminess. Garnished with shredded Green Shiso/Japanese basil leaves, a turn of the black pepper mill, and 3 small, whole Uni. Kind of a variation of an Alfredo sauce.   2) Mentai Japanese Cream: Mentaiko is lightly sweetened, red chile spiced cod roe. It is blended into a cream sauce. The cream sauce has a light fishy funky taste, and the pleasing, earthy, humus, woodsy perfume of the button mushrooms pervades the entire pasta for an incredible surf & turf combination.  Garnished with a chiffonade of Nori/black Japanese seaweed paper & scattering of roasted white sesame seeds. My favorite of the two main dishes.  1-2a) Did their Iced Earl Grey tea since I had recently indulged in multiple Sakè (sah keh) tastings by Tippsey Sakè at the nearby Japanese American Community & Cultural Center so that wine was not an option.  Tea had the typical taste of citrusy, soapy, medicinal Bergamot, but was more diluted in flavour than the hot tea version to refresh the palate.  Good, perfunctory service, no chit chat. Food came out relatively fast. Good place to satisfy your pasta carb cravings for a good price. 4 stars

Yelp
Pasta e Pasta charges $10 for parking, which was inconvenient. The staff was nice, but the service was very slow. The restaurant itself is clean and well-decorated. I tried the carbonara and the uni pasta, but both dishes were disappointing in flavor, despite the uni being surprisingly fresh.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Parking cost $10. The pasta orders included salad and bread. I tried the carbonara and uni pasta, and I preferred the uni pasta. It was good, but not worth a special trip to LA. The service was slow, and they didn't provide bags for takeout only paper boxes, which absorbed all the sauce, making the pasta less enjoyable after reheating. Overall, it was average and nothing spectacular. There were not many seats inside.
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
The pasta was really great and very delicious. They have excellent authentic flavor. The overall quality level here was still very, very great. The vibe was romantic and pretty decent. The wine selection was amazing. Prompt service and very tasty offerings make this well-worth. The pasta was so good and nice flavor. The noodles was great and top-notch ingredients. Nice seating outside and inside.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for an Italian dining experience that's a bit off the beaten path, Pasta E Pasta is worth the visit. This charming spot has a unique menu that stands out from your typical Italian fare, showcasing some inventive takes on classic dishes. However, be prepared to put yourself on a waitlist, as it's a popular place and the seating is quite limited. The interior is cozy and intimate, which makes it perfect for a romantic dinner or a special night out. Despite its small size, the staff is incredibly attentive and ensures you're well taken care of throughout your meal. One of the standout features of Pasta E Pasta is their picante oil - it's simply delicious and adds a delightful kick to any dish you choose. I also highly recommend trying the veggie spaghetti with cream sauce. The combination is surprisingly delicious and well-executed. The only downside is that it can be a bit pricey, but considering the atmosphere and quality of the food, it's worth the splurge. If you're looking for a unique and intimate dining experience, Pasta E Pasta is definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
This place always has a wait so I recommend getting there right when they open or earlier the better! This is such a unique spot where you can get Japanese/Italian fusion. When you walk inside, it feels like a fancier Italian restaurant, but all the workers speak Japanese. They serve you warm bread and you can add olive oil. The best combination is bread, olive oil, balsamic, and a sprinkle of cheese. They also serve you a house salad; the dressing is nice and light, and a great palate cleanser. The pasta I got was the mentai cream pasta which had cod roe, mushrooms, and dried seaweed on top. The noodles were al dente, the mushrooms were soft and soaked up all the cream, and the seaweed added a nice saltiness/umami flavor. This is definitely a unique spot to try different kinds of pasta. The one thing I liked was the pasta was very light and I didn't feel heavy after eating it. They give you big portions, and definitely worth the money. I also tried the uni pasta, and they give you a good amount of uni in the dish. Someone who doesn't eat a lot of uni, the flavor is subtle and not too overpowering. The uni surprisingly went really well with the cream and pasta. If you are trying to find an asian fusion restaurant, I would check this one out!

Yelp
I tried the Pasta e Pasta in Cerritos so finally decided to visit the one that was closer to me. Gotta say, I enjoyed this location more. The pasta tasted better here, and it's a larger location so more space to accommodate people. Their pasta here is so delicious and well-done. The big winners for us were the uni pasta and the bacon eggplant pasta. And they're generous servings as well that will leave you happy and satisfied. Not to mention, their service is efficient. Parking can be difficult in this part of LA, but they have a private lot they share with some other businesses. Despite it being around 6pm, we were able to get a spot with no problem. Always a plus! Definitely will be returning to Pasta e Pasta. Recommend you stop by and give them a try.

Yelp
Food 10 out of 10! Small place with excellent service. Limited parking. Adjacent to the arts district. Clean. Will definitely be coming back. I recommend!!

Yelp
There are not a lot of restaurants with Japanese Italian fusion cuisine, so I love that this place offers it. All of their pasta dishes come with a house salad and warm bread & butter. The salad and bread were served immediately, while the pastas took 30 minutes from ordering to get served. Mentai Japanese Cream: Delicious! Very creamy and flavorful. The combination of cod roe and mushrooms worked perfectly together. It had just the right balance of everything. I would order this over and over again. Uni Pasta: This is an Allegro Special and a house favorite. It was good, but I think it would have been even better if it had a creamier sauce. The sauce is supposed to be rich and creamy. Instead, it was quite thin and runny. The uni was fresh though and tasted full of umami.

Yelp
One of my favorite pasta places. Been coming here for years and they've always remained consistent. I love pesto sauce so I always ordered Genovese; mentai japanese cream is another crowd favorite. You can tell they make the sauce in-house. Service is fast and they start you with a side salad and bread.

Yelp
Everything here is great but my friends and I all love the Mentai the most. It's a creamy mushroom pasta dish with seaweed flakes on top and the flavors are just lovely. I find myself craving this place often. The staff is really nice as well, everyone that works there is always very friendly and kind.

Yelp
I asked a good friend to come with me to try this place for the first time and we were quite happy with the experience. As suggested from other reviews, we ordered the Squid Ink Pasta with chunks of squid with a very distinct flavor that's hard to describe but delicious. We also ordered the famous Creamy Uni Pasta which was also very delicious but I may want a little more Uni on mine. The service was fast and efficient but very friendly as well. Overall a very good experience. The place itself is a small restaurant but cozy and clean. I'm glad we came early because it started packing up as we left. We will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu, especially the Beef Ragu Spaghetti.

Yelp
After so many raving reviews by others to come visit here I'd say we were quite disappointed with the food. It truly was not as flavorful as we hoped it to be. The pasta itself wasn't really the best quality either and for a place that serves only pasta we would assume they'd make their own pasta but it was giving more like cheap grocery store pasta with sauce. Service was good but it wasn't anything too out of the ordinary for LA. Parking was $6 in the paid lot.

Yelp
Rating: 9.5/10 Yum yum yum!!!!! Probably one of the best, if not the best, pasta places I've ever had the pleasure of dining at! Bf and I got here around 5:30PM on a Sunday and waited about 10-15 minutes before being seated. It was pretty busy inside but not overly crowded. I've heard so much about this place and it's been in my bookmarks in Yelp for a long time, so I thought it was about time to come and try it! We were seated at a table near the bar. Lighting is dim but romantic, and they offered us complimentary bread + butter and salad before our pastas came. Here's what we ordered: 1) Mentai Cream Pasta: 9.5/10. Holy moly, seriously one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had!!! Now, I've had mentai udon before in other restaurants, which is really good, but pasta is honestly more my taste. Portion is generous, enough for one hungry person (we were pretty full when we finished dining, which is rare for us at Italian pasta restaurants since we both normally eat a lot). When I took the first bite, the flavor didn't hit me right away but after like two seconds, I got a really delicious mushroom umami-forward taste that was perfectly salty and slightly sweet, and oh so creamy. The pasta was amazingly al dente, and the thin noodle shape was a perfect vehicle for the sauce since the sauce coated every strand. It wasn't overly saucy but also not dry, just perfect. Delicious for start to finish, and we even used the bread to scoop up the leftover sauce. Highly highly recommend, I preferred this to the uni pasta. 2) Uni Pasta: 9.5/10 (BF's rating). I'm not the biggest fan of uni but I can appreciate the delicious seafood umami richness it brings to this pasta dish. The uni pasta was less sweet and slightly less creamy than the mentai pasta, slightly more salty and reminded me of a more traditional pasta dish. Pasta was perfectly al dente again, not too saucy and not too dry. Really solid and BF said he preferred this pasta over the mentai (he loves uni!!!). Overall, we would definitely come back again!!! The portions were generous, price was reasonable and not insanely expensive, and the food was just so dreamily delicious. PASTA e PASTA will be a staple in our LA go-to restaurants list, and we recommend you to come try as well!

Yelp
I get the hype!! Everything about this restaurant was amazing! The service was great. Every server was kind and attentive. The inside of the restaurant was very cozy, perfect for a date night. And all the pasta was cooked so well. My favorite pasta of the night was definitely the mentaiko but I honestly enjoyed every bite I had. I was also pleasantly surprised at how big the portion sizes were and that the meal came with bread and a salad!

Yelp
I heard they are all the rave so I decided to try them out since I love uni pasta! Big mistake :( Parking in LA is ass so we don't need to review that. I came around their second opening which was a little after 5pm but before 6pm. The place wasn't too crowded as I got seated right away but they are a pretty small and cozy place. The wait for the food was still long and I felt a little forgotten because they sat me at the corner. Food came out and to me, the Burrata was great and the uni pasta was kinda mid compared to other places I've tried. Once I finished, I tried to flag this waitress for the check. She came back and her look and attitude made it seemed like I inconvenienced her for the check. Anyway, shortly after, I got sick from the food. I knew it was because of this place because this was the only food I had all day.

Yelp
Eaten on 8/6/24: Def in the top two pasta places in LA for me - we ordered the bolognese and the mentai pasta. The piccante oil at the table is great! Such a pleasant spice that doesn't alter the flavor of the pastas. I liked the Hunger Games styled, dense seed bread they included with the salad. The mentai is creamy and delicate in flavor, highly recommend putting a bit of the piccante oil in there to amp up the flavors. Although portions were pretty big for two people, I fear we finished both pastas and there was no a crumb of pasta left over. Ambience is cozy and warm lighting, service was quick and the staff were helpful. Parking can be tricky in this area as the lot was cash only so we parked at the lot where SmokeTokes is located - the flat rate is $10 and they accept credit card. There's also metered street parking a few blocks over.

Yelp
Delicious, delicious thin pasta generously coated in flavorful sauces. My friend and I ordered the uni cream pasta and the squid ink. I preferred the squid ink more because you get the squid flavor really well and I just love tomato based pastas in general more. Portions were perfect and had me full. I was a little disappointed by the uni cream, because the uni is beyond subtle minus the small piece they put on top. It's a great cream pasta but if you told me there was uni on it, I wouldn't have known. Regardless, i would still come back to try other pastas!
