I walked in looking for a small cake. I wasn’t able to order with time for there delicious carrot cake that me and my family love so much, so I picked one of the options available and I got cajeta con nuez. Such a delicious cake! So moisty and full of flavor! The chocolate bread you can taste the cacao which I love! Such great quality and beautiful design. Another cake I love is orange mandarin, so citrusy. I really recommend this place if you are looking for a good cake. From something small to something big. This is my go to!

I have been a loyal Custumer for many years I continue to make the long trip just to get the cakes and cookies but I must say it’s been a few years that I notice the slack the customer service is horrible I just had the worse experience I notice they had cute cookie trays so without even taking a look I just grab one tray I also purchased other cookies besides the tray as I’m getting in my car which I was parked right in front of the store I notice it was only one kind of cookie it was not the mix tray they always have I decided to go back and see if they can exchanged it for the mix one the young girl told me she was not able to cause I had walked out of the store for safety reasons I proceed to tell her that I took maybe a minute to realized it was only one single kind of cookie and they refused to let me speak to a manager I wouldn’t mind the tray but the cookie looks like my 2 year old made them they are hard it is very sad that over a tray of cookie today they lost a loyal Custumer I decided to throw the tray away because I will be embarrassed to even think in giving that tray to anyone

**Long Overdue Review!** I’ve been a loyal customer of Pastel for years, and just like so many others, I keep coming back—and for good reason. * If you want **intricately designed cakes that also taste amazing**, this is the place. * I absolutely love their **Red Velvet cake**—it's one of my favorites. * The **Cajeta con nuez** is another top pick. They are *definitely* not stingy with the pecans! I was able to order cakes for my twins’ quinceañera, and I have to say: **they were everything I expected and more!** All of our guests raved about the cake—we didn’t have a single slice left to take home. * Delivery was spot-on! The cakes arrived *intact* after a 1.5-hour drive, and they were delivered **on time**. If you're looking for **quality, beautiful, and delicious cakes**, Pastel is the place to go. I’ve been a customer for a long time and the quality still the same. The whipped cream delicious the cake super moist, and the decoration is always on point. The service is great and the girls in front super nice and helpful.

So I placed my order Thursday the 15th to pick up my cake the 18th. We went over what I wanted what I liked. The lady told me they closed at 4pm Sunday so I needed to be there to pick up the cake before that time. So I gave her a time for her to have in mind. 12pm. I sent them the pictures of my cake. The lady gave me a receipt and I asked her if I needed it for pickup she said I just needed my first name and last name. I left a $50 deposit and was going to pay another $52 on the pickup day. That Sunday I came to get my cake. I say my name and they pull out my cake. I was not happy with the cake what so ever. My main issue was the cheetah print. It was royal blue, purple, and baby blue with black and white boarders and red writing. The cake didn’t match at all. It did not look like the inspiration photo what so ever. On top of everything wrong with the cake they gave me the bows that were meant to be on the cake in a bag. I thought they would’ve had it on the cake. So I told the girl I didn’t like the cake. She brought out her manager and the manager told me “I was suppose to come at 12pm. I came at 2pm so whatever the edible image printed out as and however long it stayed in the fridge it was out of their control of the change in the color”. So the fridge changed the edible image color ?? So I told her why didn’t you just email me if the image didn’t work, we could’ve just had the nice boarder and I would’ve took the cake but this is a $100 cake and I didn’t even get what I asked for. She kept going back and forth with me. Everything seemed like the blame was put on me. I was trying to get a refund and that was another issue. They pulled their receipt out and asked me to take out my original payment method which I did. I guess the numbers on my card didn’t match whatever number was on the receipt. I showed them my bank statement and I said this says -$50 from pastels. So if my payments don’t match how did this get taken out. I showed them my wallet on my iPhone and the time, day, place and amount was shown for them to see I was telling them the truth. The card was my original payment method. It was like I was talking to a wall. The lady would not give me my refund. She told me to go get my receipt so they know for sure. I was not going out of my way. So after going back and forth for an hour now she said let’s test the card and see if it works. It worked. The refund went through. They wanted my I.D to scan and my signature. The younger lady put on the side of my signature $50. So when I got home the next day I emailed them the receipt. I didn’t make the mistakes here. I’ve been a long time customer. My mom buys cakes from them. My sister. I have recommended people to them and to be treated so poorly with attitude from the younger female (Ashley) and such unprofessionalism from the manager. You would think they would just give me the cake for the $50 deposit that I already paid but no. A bunch of excuses and blame. I have ordered many cakes from them, most have came out wonderful, some my directions weren’t followed, but this time was unacceptable. I was not paying $100 for something I didn’t want.

Last time I'll order from this place!! This is the third time I have to ask them to fix my cakes. How can you give a cake where you can see the line of the picture? If you ask for something simple just because they always make things so complicated. Very unprofessional and ruth!!

I am so disappointed because I have ordered cake from this place many times before. I had placed the order with them and showed them a picture of how I wanted the cake and The colors were not what I wanted. they offered to fix the cake but when I picked it up, it still looked the same. The staff does not communicate amongst each other, which causes confusion. Unprofessional and incompetent people are left as receptionist

Amazing cake, it was cajeta con nuez. Is not that sweet. Very tasty, highly recommended. 3 yrs later I came back to order my baby’s mango tres leches cake and it was delicious

Terrible customer service, don't call over the phone because they will put you on hold forever, call three times within 10 minutes apart and they still put me on hold, waited over five minutes each time on the line and they don't bother to take your call. Not recommended.

Cakes and desserts are excellent! They are very helpful and friendly in person and on the phone! The place has a few seats to eat and free wifi! Highly recommend!

Hardest piece of bread I ever taste. If you guys don't baked it the day your costumer order it, why bother to ask: for what time do you like your rosca?.

This is our go to place for all cakes, their cake are really good and they pretty much do all designs, their chocolate chip cookies are also really good I always get a pound every time I place an order for a cake the only negative I have about this place is they don't have a website where you can conveniently place an order or see what types of flavors they offer.

If I could give Pastel Cakes and More no stars I would. This establishment doesn't demonstrate professionalism with their customers. I ordered a 10 inch tres leches cake (which was $110) and when we cut into it Saturday night it was dry. On Google it states that the bakery is closed on Sunday so I did not take 3/4 of the cake that was not eaten back to the bakery. I saved the cake in the box and emailed them which their reply was that they only take cakes back within 24 hours and I suggested they update their hours on Google. They are not willing to refund me or at least give me the cake I ordered. They offered $35 or 25% off my next order. I will not be buying anything from this bakery in the future and I will warn all my friends and colleagues of the terrible customer service.

I got a lot of whipped cream!! The small pieces of cake were good but even though the whip cream wasn't sweet it was way too much and overpowering. I felt like I over paid for all the whip cream! Yikes!

Will no longer be buying cakes from Pastel. Second time at this bakery and the customer service is the worst. The girl at the counter has the worst attitude and doesn't need to be helping customers. I asked for simple HBD writing on a cake and her response, we don't specialize in writing! Really !!! Just didn't want to assist me and just sell me a plain cake. The owner is so nice and accommodating but need to hire better help. Won't be going back!!

I paid 63 for a six inch cake with a tiny edible image on the side of the cake. When I first saw it I thought it was a joke. It wasn't that was the cake they thought was presentable for my one year old

Heard so much about this place from 1 of my co-workers, that I finally decided to go. Customer service was average, cake was ok, nice flavor, very fresh but I will not come back way to expensive. Not worth the drive or price

Order your tres leche cake here! The delicate frosting is a perfect touch to the sweetness of the cake. Add strawberries and it's a dream. A small cake goes such a long way since it's a tall cake.

I've been buying cake from them for almost a year now. The service is good, cakes are not expensive and they are delicious!

If you want your cake to come out PERFECT!!!! YOU MUST come in and place the order in person. Ordering over the phone is difficult for them to understand what exactly you want and they do not specify if you make a minor change on the cake, they as well make changes without letting you know. At arriving home with the cake I realized a few things were made wrong. So I called the bakery and spoke with a lady she was very argumentative, not apologetic at all. At the end she said we can't do anything for you but you can come in and we can try and fix the problem. Her not considering that while hosting a bday party your day is busy. I went in and spoke to the same lady, I'm assuming because she was very argumentative and not apologetic at all. At the end the cake went from not being how I ordered it to worse!!! She was supposed to add slight coconut to the upper side of the cake, instead it looks like she threw tons of coconut not considering the border of the cake, it's just a mess! One of her worst comments was, "We have different tastes".....well I'm paying yous to make it to my taste not yours!!!! The customer service is horrible and not considerate at all.

I was looking for a last minute cake for my brothers birthday. Looked up the highest rated location and they did not disappoint. Small location, very friendly, very helpful. My only complaint. I got a marble cake with strawberries and there was hardly any inside the cake. The few strawberries i found were cut into mini baby pieces. However, the cake looked great, tasted great and they helped me out in a Jam. Will definitely be back with

They have the most delicious, moist and yummy cakes. My favorite one is Nuez con cajeta, but you got a try all their different kinds. They are all yummy.! The customer services is great! They are so friendly. I Definitely recommend them, this is best bakery in Chicago. Thank you Pastel Cakes and more for make my family events more special!!

This is my favorite place to get my cakes, but unfortunately there are a little bit of misunderstanding. Firstly they wanted me to get a 12inch cake to fit one of the design which was $95 or the other alternative was to send an image which was an additional $15. Unfortunately life got in the way and I didn't have time to send the picture "on time". I sent the picture on Monday but since they are closed I would've thought they would check emails on Tuesday morning. The email had my name and the date of the cake. Well I went to pick up the cake to noticed there wasn't any picture on it. So we had to go with the simple happy birthday on the cake. I asked the guy if he they didn't see emails and he said that the managers are the only ones to see it. Due to the personal life of the managers they weren't able to see the email.

This review is based on custom cakes alone. I've been getting my son's bday cakes from this establishment for the last 8 years. I'm very picky and dislike Cakes that are just sugar icing and bread. We always order the cajeta con Nuez cake for my son but we've also had the pineapple/coconut cake and let me tell you omg! Moist and flavorful. I've never been disappointed. My family looks forward to this cake as we do not eat sweets a lot. If you want a moist flavorful cake this is the place.

I'm a sucker for deals. It's so easy to justify buying something when it's coming to you at a discounted price. So when Yelp informed me that Pastel had a BOGO deal on slices of cake, I detoured to the bakery in the blink of an eye. Walking into the empty store, I was confused as to why there wasn't a long line of sweet-tooth deal seekers like me, yet I was delighted knowing there was plenty of cake inside the glass case for me to choose from. The woman behind the counter kindly explained the flavor of each of the six cakes. With my BOGO deal, I selected the cookies 'n cream and the caramel-pecan, both of which looked equally tall, rectangular, decorated, and appetizing. I happily skipped out of the store, eager to taste my purchases. I took three bites of each cake, finishing neither of them, not because they were over-the-top sweet and indulgent, but rather because my taste buds categorized the cake slices as "just okay". The top and middle layers of frosting were whipped, and while generously spread and contained small surprises in the middle layer (actual caramel on the caramel-pecan, plenty of crumbled chocolate cookies on the cookies 'n cream), I wasn't the biggest fan of the fluffy texture combined with those add-in's. I wished I was indulging in a smooth, thick buttercream frosting. The cake itself had the consistency and taste of a standard cake one would purchase at a grocery store's bakery. Although it's not a knock against Pastel, it didn't elevate my thoughts about the cake either. In short, I learned the hard way that not every 5-star deal guarantees you a 5-star quality.

Reading my future in the frosting? I'm thinking I may have to find a way to embrace the "boo box" experience. Five star all around until the box. (Pic) Presentation should be carried through. No frosting upon the top just as you don't want cheese slathered all over the top of a pizza box. It seems pretty straightforward to me. It kills me to do four because this shop is otherwise perfect. The cakes are all that!!! They ARE just like flavored air. Incredibly light and fresh and moist. There's also giant cookies and sime other goodies. The service is heavenly sweet without even expecting a tip. (She was shocked, actually). (And that shocked me back ;) The place is simple. A table, couches, and a short counter at a window where the view of the street is blocked off from inside. The coffee is steaming hot but was weak. I'd do an espresso next time. I happened to ask a couple people for directions and I got to work on my Spanish on the first occasion. The second time, an older gentleman with a weathered face simply shouted "POLISH!" at me. I think I thanked him in Russian!

Finally! A nice spot to have a latte and pastries. It's nicely decorated and the menu somewhat limited, but considering the demographics, don't expect this place to have lots of traffic throughout the day or weekends...but it's a start in the right direction. I purchased a hot chocolate and a latte for the wifey, which were very good. My only concern is the freshness of there pastries. The red velvet cupcake I bought was hard and tasteless and was charged full price!! It must have been a few days old...they should warn customers of this and provide discounts for aged goods. Will give them another try soon.

Pastel! is a very modern yet warm and inviting bakery/café... tried their cakes twice, once for a baby shower, and another I got a mutli-flavor/layer cake for a birthday and both times it was a big hit with the guests. I had forgotten to place a custom order cake beforehand and did it on the same day and they rushed to complete it within hours! So big thumbs up on the service as well as taste! ... oh yes, might I mention they also have FREE Wi-Fi and comfy furniture if you decide to come in and have their delicious baked goods and a cup of coffee while you're in the neighborhood... it's just a block or two from the Pulaski Orange Line, perfect place to stop by before/after/during the commute to warm up and have a treat!

Never have a problem with placing an order nor are the pastries EVER disappointing. The pineapple coconut cake is an absolute family favorite. I've gotten family members ordering from here now after having them fall in love with the cakes. Recently tried the chocolate mousse with raspberry filling, I'm not going to lie and say I was hesitant since I'm not too big a fan on chocolate cake, but the mousse was perfect. Wasn't too sweet, the bread inside was soft and raspberry filling did not disappoint one bit. Have been coming here for years now and don't plan on ever stopping.

OMG! ordered my own birthday cake. Took the drawing that I wanted on it, coconut flavored whipped cream and pineapple filling and WOW! it was so cute, adorable. I loved it! And the cake its self. FINGER LICKING GOOD! Thank you Pastel! for making my birthday a special one.

WHOA! Finally decided to stop by once I saw that they had fresh fruit and yogurt in cups! All it took was facebook and I said I would be there after work. So I ordered a banana and apple parfait and a berries parfait. Not bad, since I am writing this a few days after the fact, and I have already stopped by another time after. I do have ONE thing that I was bothered by. Well, the first time I went I was told the cupcakes would be $1.25 but of course I was able to get a taste of one, which was okay (although not the caliber of the Cupcakes for Courage or the Flirty Cupcakes I am accustomed to), but why should they be, the others are over $3.25 and $3.75 respectively, but still $1.25 a cupcake here is really not bad. Now the next day I returned and bought two more parfaits and a few other things such as lemon meringue tart and the other a fruit tart that I used my YELP check-in to get for FREE! Also ordered 4 cupcakes but this time I was told that the cupcakes are $1.50. Now correct me if I am wrong, wasn't I just told the day before they were $1.25? THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT I WAS PERTURBED BY, but I could still live with the $1.50 per cupcake, as I really was impressed with the place and want to YELP them out to get more exposure. I like the fact that they do offer free WI FI and a comfortable "lounge" area with really nice furniture and art. I was pleasantly surprised that the place really makes you feel at home. The fact that you can just come and order a coffee and dessert is awesome, and West Lawn needed this. Now the clincher is I was just informed that they have been around since 2008, but hello I am just finally coming in? Damian, shame on you. Check them out and don't forget to use your YELP check in since they do freebies and you all know that as ELITE YELPer's, free is always good. Hmmmm, do I detect a YELP hang out here soon. After braised goat at nearby Zaragoza, we came here for sweets on the road. We had a 10 hour train ride ahead of us so we figured a little of everything would do! The cookies were amazing, especially the Mexican wedding ones! But I share the sentiment of others when I say that the caramel pecan tart was absolutely to die for!!! The thick creamy caramel inside had a great smoky flavor, literally cooked to a perfect consistency. The crust was flaky yet smooth. And the ganache on top, a little drop of heaven! Chicago is not my ideal vacation spot but I can't wait to come back here for Zaragoza and Pastel! Thank you for giving me something wonderful to remember!

Love this family owned operation!!!! Actually...hmm..yes I do believe this is my favorite bakery in Chicago. I almost don't want to post a review for fear that too many people would crowd this hot spot but I like the staff so much I might as well spread the word. Like I said this is a family owned operation so majority of the people I saw entering the shop were friends and relatives of the workers. The set up is calm (there's a couch and only a couple of tables as well as a bar along the window for individual seaters) They also offer free unlimited wifi. There is one hour of free parking available but if you sit near the window you can watch your car...I've actually never seen a meter maid. I don't know why this place isn't more popular when nearly every single piece of cake I've tried has been moist, fresh, unique and delicious. I'm not embarrassed to admit that after my first visit I returned and brought my friends for 3 consecutive days in a row. So yes so far I've gone to this location 4 times in 1 week and have sampled every cookie on display (only in the counter- there are larger ones in the cabinet I haven't hit yet) and most of the cakes. Here is my descriptive verdict. Cakes: Best seller: Coconut Pineapple cake. I thought this cake was delicious and the fruits complimented each other wonderfully. If you only plan on coming once...try this cake cause I think it was thee best I've tasted so far and I highly doubt you will be disappointed. Strawberry Cream with Strawberries: Is a close second. One of the friends I took preferred this cake over the coconut so if you are not much of a coconut/pineapple fan then def. order the strawberry. Raspberry Chocolate: Was pretty rich but still moist and decadent. If you have a strong sweet tooth I recommend this treat. Oreo Cookies n Cream: Was probably my least favorite. Only because it tasted pretty typical. Nothing too unique about this order yet still tasty. Caramel cream and Pecan: I loved the Pecan pieces! Overall a satisfactory slice of sugar. =) I have yet to try the orange or the cheesecake. Perhaps on my next visit...now onto the cookies! Cookies: Best Seller: Pecan Bars...and for good reason. Everyone I've allowed to taste these treats agrees that these are the best they have. Perfect coffee cookies. Mexican wedding cake: Also delicious and my second favorite. Crumbly, moist, yummy. Orange cookies: A very nice hint of orange. Do recommend. Macaroons: Wonderfully bite sized. They have a crispy and fairly hard exterior but the inside is so moist and delicious. Definitely one of my favorites here. Chocolate Chip/Pecan cookies: I thought these were pretty good but a little harder to chew than I prefer. My friends noted that this was not their favorite but I liked them just fine. Lemon Balls: Pretty good but I would pass. Mocha cookies: I'm not a huge fan of coffee flavored goodies but my friend is and she very much enjoyed. Pastitas (Shortbread cookie with raspberry or apricot center): They were okay but I wouldn't reorder. Cinnamon sugar cookies: Pretty good but again not my favorite. The prices here are very reasonable as well. A little over $2 for a slice of cake (Yelp offers a buy one get one free!...hence my indulgence) and the cookies are 0.35 cents each- or about $4 for 1/2lb...cheap! Their coffees are about $2 as well so for as little as $6 I can walk away with a very content palette. Without a doubt, a 5 star 4 visit experience =)

Well I was enjoying this place because my niece had a cake from there last month,Carmel and pecans it was so delicious I never had a cake like this before.So this is the third time we had this cake but so sad to say I was enjoying it till I came across a long strand of black hair in my slice and it wasn't mine. I haven't called the place because it was close,smh like now what this was very disappointed

Been going here for years but i will be taking my money somewhere else. Made two order for Father's day and both were just horrible.. We had a tres leches which they had to fix cause apparently it got damaged on top of that is was the worst most dried cake i have had. Then i had a cajeta and nuez that was good but it was damage as will. Then they put this blue whipped cream that stain our hands horribly. Fyi start fixing your problems before you keep losing loyal customers.

I love this place. We get all of our birthday cakes here and every time we serve it we get compliments on the great find. I love a good whipped cream frosting and this is clearly their specialty. The basic strawberries and cream is always a safe bet but we usually call ahead to customize the filling with strawberries and mandarin. We ordered my sister's bridal shower cake here as well. Excellent execution of the requested design and delicious as always.

The cakes are moist and delicious!! From an employee she told me their cakes are made fresh every single day. This is one of my most favorite cake shop in the city and feeds approximately 8-10 people. And tastes great the next day! Unlike other cakes I've purchased from other bakeries. The cost of the cake is $35 a reasonable price for their great quality.

I would've given it a 5 star if it wasn't because of their customer service. Sometimes it's okay or sometimes the people are just moody. But the fresas con crema cake is sooo good and keeps me coming back!

Came here after my yummy meal at Birrieria Zaragoza. Place is clean and pretty big. A little dark though. Wasn't a very big selection. I ended up with Pineapple/Coconut Cake (for my sis) - 50% off with Yelp check in. I had one bite and though it was good. Very light and fresh. Caramel Pecan Cake - Opted for this since I couldn't find the caramel pecan tart everyone was talking about (realized it's the cajeta tart after going on their website). It was good, but really could only taste the pecans. Carrot Cake - I'm not a big carrot cake fan, but I thought this was good. My guy got a coffee and said it was good. Would definitely be back to try the cajeta tart, opera and some cookies.

Looking for a sweet treat and stumbled across this place! Delicious! The cheesecake was absolutely perfect! Also got the lemon balls cookies which were the perfect size and texture. Will definitely be going there again before going home

My sister ordered a cake for my daughter's graduation. 2 tier red velvet and Oreo not only was the cake beautiful it also taste great. The fondant was not too sweet just perfect. Red velvet with cream cheese filling was so tasty. Oreo flavor was just as good.. couldn't be more pleased.

Omg the red velvet cake is amazing. You can purchase a slice for $3. Very moist. Also coconut pineapple.

This has become my new favorite cake shop. They have very nice and reasonably priced cakes. My favorite cake is the mandarin flavored cake! Also their small cheese cakes are very good. I order cakes from here every time I have a birthday party for a family member or myself. I love it!

We've been getting our cakes here for almost all birthday occasions lately. These cakes are delicious, moist , and light. Presentation is all very nice. However, it doesn't have the best costumer service. The lady's working there both had straight faces and it was just a strange/awkward vibe, I've never experienced that before when buying a cake. Also be aware that they do not offer a tiny sample of cake when wanting to place a cake order. You have to pay almost $4 for each of the individual cakes they sell to see which one you like. Overall their cakes are delicious and I will be returning because of that!

Three milk cake was yummy and looked cute. HOWEVER: Customer service was so dry. The girls were not all friendly. More like "what do you want" and "here you go - leave." Not even a fake smile. Also, they have a sign that reads they are open until 8 pm. But, when I asked over the phone what time they closed - I was told 7 pm, so I rushed over. Too bad... they have a great product. But as much as they charge (its not a cheap bakery) I expect more customer service to make me want to come back. Not worth the 45 minute drive.

Post-goat at Zaragoza we wanted dessert. (especially me who hadn't been 'wowed' and was still looking for something to satisfy my tyrant of a stomach) We climbed in the car, thinking hard, pulling out the phone in order not to think too hard. Drove around the block. Parked again. One of us had come up with Pastel! - two doors away from Kid Kingdom. I have to say: I had my doubts. Cakes and more.....I always wonder what the 'more' in question is. I guess it's supposed to be enticing, slightly intriguing...to me it almost sounds scary and vaguely threatening. One can put anything in 'more'. But as soon as I pushed the door they all vanished: the place was nice, open, with a lovely sitting area and man, everything I laid my eyes on looked yummy. We were greeted by a sampling of butter cookies, especially displayed for us on a three-tier cake stand; my favorite were the Mexican wedding cookies, the bolitas de coco and the barritas de nuez (pecan bars).........that's a welcome alright. We ended up sharing these three slices: - pineapple/coconut, our overwhelming favorite (even with two big chocolate lovers at the table): fresh, light, flavorful, a real winner - the opera - the vanilla cheesecake Very reasonable prices, a great small local business that I was happy to support. Way to go, Pastel! (and more)

I'm hoping it tastes as good as it looks. When the cake is cut and a a piece is in front of me, I take that first bite.... and I am in heaven. Light and delicious frosting- moist and flavorful cake filled with pineapple... I can't seem to stop stuffing my face with cake! I look over at my husband and he has already inhaled his piece and is looking longingly at the cake table wondering if he can go for second piece. I must find out where one gets this perfect cake. I ask the groom's sister to please tell me where she ordered it from and she says: Pastel! It's on Pulaski and 47th. um. what? this place is like 3 minutes from my home and I never noticed it? Blasphemy! We stopped by today and let me tell you- we were impressed. Comfy couches to lounge on. Great coffee selection. Yummy cakes and cookies. They even have a sandwich menu (we will be stopping by another day to give those a try) If you are expecting the usual southside bakery you will be disappointed in the selection- it's a small counter. But remember, this is not a bakery. It's more like a cake store/coffee house. today we purchased: Caramel pecan tart- delicious! Slice of Pineapple cake with coconut frosting- just like we remembered from the wedding :) a slice of chocolate cake with coffee flavoring-another perfect cake. We also ordered 1/2 pound of cookies, but since we do have SOME self control- those remain untouched and will be consumed during the week. So- if you need a sugar fix- Pastel is the place to go :)

Ordered my baby shower cake ... Pineapple Coconut filling. It was amazingly delicious and with the cutest decor! Definitely ordering more cakes for future parties! Great customer service...they matched the cake design I wanted perfectly!

First of all, the cakes are really good here. The cakes always taste fresh and the whip cream frosting is always airy and light. All the cake combinations are delicious! The cookies aren't that great but try them out it might just be a me thing. Personally I think they need more sugar and a different chocolate chip cookie recipe. BUT costumer service is something waaay different. I came in to order a cake but it was harder than it had to be. I was being a little complicated at first but decided to scrap the original design to make it easier for everyone. Unfortunately easy, still wasn't easy. I was given to many excuses such as "it's too expensive" "it's to much work" and etc. All I wanted was a sign made out of fondant or drawn out with what ever they use to put names on the cake. Instead they printed a picture on fondant and slapped it on and it looked off from the cake color. It was two different shades of black. When I went to go pick up the cake one of the people from the back came to the front and just gave me a death stare. All I did was smile and home girl made me feel unwelcome.

I recently had my engagement party and bought my cake from here. I loved that not only was the cake beautifully decorated but they did not overcharge and were willing to work with me on my budget. Everyone at the party took pictures of my cake and asked where I bought it. I love this bakery and they truly make the tastiest cakes ever. These cakes not only look professional every time I buy from them, but always leave everyone wanting more.

This is a nice place located near the airport. They had great customer service. There was a photo book in the front so you can view their many designed cakes. I got the cookies and cream and the coconut pineapple. The cake had a whipped icing and you could taste that it wasn't fresh. It tasted like it had been sitting in the freezer. I must say the cake slices are good portions and the designs are elegant. Taste is where they lost the stars.... Whipped icing can't be frozen. :-(

Some moons back, I got in on the Groupon love action and was prothe option of a nine inch cake or 18 cupcakes. Being ever the Groupon procrastinator, I used it roughly sixty seconds before it expired. My oldest daughter turned five in March, and given her love for bakeries in general, I uncharacteristically decided to chance it and order her birthday cake from Pastel!. She chose a chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling, topped with whipped cream (sounds delish, right?!). Well, let's put it this way. The whole thing was devoured in a single night. Granted, we had a handful or two of people over to celebrate, but everyone who so much as looked at the cake went wild over it. I did not hear a single derogatory remark about the beautiful cake from Pastel!. Aesthetically, it was very elegant but fun (and large--come on, she's only five...the bigger the better!) and the inside was sheer heaven. Melt-in-your mouth chocolate cake (not overly sweet, not at all crumbly), the mousse was as light as air, and the whipped topping was authentic without the slightest hint of artificial, well, anything. Would I go back? Of course. They're not crazy expensive (although you'll pay more than you for a cake made from Jewel, per se), but you get what you pay for. If you pay for a mouthful of deliciousness from Pastel!, let me tell you...you'll find it to be money well spent. :)

My best friend and her husband ordered their wedding cake from here and it was amazing. We scheduled a tasting and it was so difficult to decide on the cake they were all so amazingly delicious. The cake was ready on time and it looked perfect. A picture of it is now on display in the front window (blue cake w/ silver ribbon) It's also a little cafe I've had their veggie panini very good as well. And their cookies are addictive. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a cafe, place for lunch, or specialty cakes.

We used Pastel! for a recent anniversary celebration at a non-profit organization. We wanted a custom cake that would serve between 40 and 50 people. Maria, the owner, was the person who helped us. All I can say is WOW! The cake we chose was superb with great flavor and moistness. The design was executed based on our emailing a jpeg over to them. The actual execution of the design was very good. When served, we received numerous compliments and inquiries on where we purchased the cake. Additionally, the customer service was outstanding. Maria was great -- informative, patient, and professional. The cake was ready as promised and at the right temperature. They even helped me out to the car. Pastel!'s prices are lower than most Chicago bakeries and represent great value. We had more than enough cake for the price. This is an undiscovered gem in Chicagoland that needs everyone's patronage. I, for sure, would go back to them again for any celebration treats. You won't be disappointed.

Still the best option in the neighborhood. The coffee is the best deal around, I love a double capucino and a box of mixed cookies. I highly recommend coming in for a little something sweet after gorging yourself right down the street at Birrieria Zaragozas.

Wow! What a great bakery! At the recommendation of young man at nearby Birrieria Zaragoza, my wife and I ventured into Pastel!...Cakes and More. While we were planning on just ordering some cookies, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offered a Yelp! Check-in offer of 50% a piece of cake. We chose a slice of the Cookies and Cream cake and a half pound of assorted cookies. Now the cookies were delicious, but the cake was ridiculously good! The Cookies and Cream cake had the perfect balance of cake to frosting. The frosting was light yet creamy and contained small pieces of oreo cookie. Overall, a brilliant experience at Pastel!
