The 11 Best Bakeries In Mexico City

"Pasteleria Suiza has been a neighborhood institution since 1942, and not much has changed since. It can get slammed around holidays like Día de Muertos or Día de Reyes, when people line up out the door for pan de muerto or rosca de reyes. Head here for a classic concha, oreja, or polvorón, but don’t plan on staying long—everything’s takeout and they don’t sell coffee, but you can get some at La Balance next door." - guillaume guevara

Incredible stuff! Huge selection of small and big cakes, baked items, and chocolates. They also sell cups. The prices are reasonable. The fruit cream cake is packed with fruit and the cream is not oversweetened with sugar. Box is 10 pesos extra.

We saw all the gorgeous treats in the window when we walked by yesterday and knew we wanted to stop by today. So many tasty treats to choose from, so we walked all around the bakery twice before making our choices. Everything looked so good. We chose a heart-shaped oatmeal cookie, which was close to a British biscuit, a bit dry, but very tasty. It would be perfect dipped in a cup of tea or coffee. We also selected a brownie, which was like a small loaf, sprinkled with confectionery sugar. It was quite fudgy and tasty, but they use coffee in the batter, in case that matters to you. We also chose an empanada and will enjoy it tomorrow. It's quite large. All four items were only 118 pesos, or only $6.63 for all three items. The quiche looked good, so we'll be back to get one for dinner one night soon. Highly recommend. 4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Best cake in town. Th proces reflect that you are getting the best. It is usually very busy and hard to get parking.

Google
Very tasty bakery with helpful staff. Lots of selections and they will make items if you want to special order. When you enter, grab a large metal tray and some tongs (at the entrance) and select what you want. You then take them to the counter by the door where they give you a ticket with your total and will begin wrapping your things. Take the ticket to the next counter and pay and then take the receipt to pick up your items. Enjoy!

Got this as a gift from my husband 🥰 Love the Brazo de nata con fresa 😋🍓 everything from the cream filling to the sponge cake was delicious (albeit on the sweet side) P.S. finished the whole cake by myself in 3 days 😅🤣 a guilty pleasure

Google
Amazing place with dicious sweet treats ! We also ordered here the Lomo a la ciruela for Christmas and it was delicious. It is normally pretty busy and sometimes can be slow at the cashier & to bring you some of the preorders. Extremely recomemded!

Google
This place gets a 4 for its legit old school erythinnn. Blast from the past. Not sure about how everything tastes but it all looks tasty. Was too busy for us to even grab something but loved the vibe and all the colors.

My all time favorite bakery around the area. A lot of options and smiling faces. Never disappointed. Strongly recommended.

Yelp
This place was a dream! Had no idea it's one of the oldest bakeries in Mexico, and has been there since 1942. I had one of the best pastries, I've ever had here. It's located in Condesa, and is tucked away. When you walk in, you have to grab a tray/tongs and go about picking the pastries that you would like to buy. They have such a wide variety from empanadas, to buns, to cakes and even refrigerated sweets. The pastry we had that was out of the world: Mousse de guayaba con queso. It's in the refrigerated section, and wow - the texture melted in your mouth, and with the flavors of guava, cheese and truly was a treat!

Yelp
A large variety of traditional sweets and very tasty. Very fresh. Whenever I am in town, I will go to pick a fluffy cake. This is a must visit bakery in Roma Norte.

Yelp
BIG fan of this place. They have the cutest tarts and very reasonable prices! I tried a rose shaped mousse/cracker pastry, and a fig/cream pastry. The rose one, while pretty, was actually quite gelatinous outside so I wasn't a huge fan of that bit but the mousse inside was great. The whole fig tart was delicious! If I had been in Mexico for longer I would've tried some of the other fruit tarts too for sure. It's easy to pay as well, you just bring your tray to the ladies at the packing counter by the entrance and they give you a receipt which you take to the register in the back counter where they ring you up. Then you just pick up your packaged pastries on the way out. Super cute place, will definitely come back next time I'm in Mexico to try other treats!

Yelp
Old school pastry, with tons of tradition The pastry is ok. Not great, but ok (there's better nearby). But you come here for the tradition, the carefully wrapped bundles of bread products, the lines outside, and the affection that the folks have for what they do. So yeah, worth coming here at least once...

Yelp
Bad experience for the second time at the Polanco branch of this business. The staff is very rude. And after months of unbelievable good service at restaurants all over the city. I think this place in particular has a staffing problem. We are the customers and keeping you in business. Try being nice.

Yelp
Loved their berry tart, meringue with cream, and breads. Their lemon pie was a tad too sour for me but everything else was so good. You bring your choices up to the counter where they pack it beautifully for you in paper and hand you a slip - you then go to the cashier to pay. They take card!

Yelp
What a great bakery, chock full of tasty treats. The lay out of the pastries is so beautiful. We bought some cookies and they were awesome. The was probably the least friendliest place of our time in MX.

Yelp
What a DREAM. We came here twice during our short three day weekend in Mexico City. From the cream filled concha and the empanadas (the mole one is seriously amazing) to their special pastries in the fridge - I'm so in love with this bakery. I only wish we were able to try more, but my boyfriend's pretty lactose intolerant; that cream filled concha is literally 75% cream, 25% concha. But did I love it? Hell yeah I did. We picked up a mango pastry from the fridge on our last, super hot day. It tasted like ice cream with not too sweet mango jelly and was insanely satisfying. Grab a plate and place your pastries on. When you're ready, place that on the counter where the nice ladies are - they'll give you a price and a little ticket to give to the cashier at the register. While you pay, they'll have already packed up your goodies :) No seating, but it's perfectly positioned next to the park.

Yelp
The place has really good pastries. I tried the concha and the little strawberry cake. The photos on app dont do it justice. I will go back for more, plus they have chocolate that is amazing.

Yelp
They don't take Amex. And Can't seem to muster enough customer service to see more than Amex No. Note to the management: if your workers are so tired of telling people "no Amex" maybe you should consider the benefits of accepting it.

Yelp
Delicious top to bottom, wide variety of choices. Love the cream based pastries. Will def be back

Yelp
We had super low expectations For this place because despite the good reviews When we looked at the pastries in person They looked kind of dry We were so wrong The leche cream cake they're famous for is so soft and moist And we got the one with strawberry And it was real fruit (not like the fake US stuff) We also got the chocolate cigar which had a great Crunchy texture and just sweet enough chocolate :)

Yelp
Items Selected: Bacalao Empanada Parque de Elote Panque Plotono Pastel de Zanaharia Cubilete de Queso Beso Dona de Azucar Chocolate Walnut Cookie Sprinkle Cookie Concha Sandwich Chocolate Egg Opened in 1942 when Chef Jaime Bassegoda escaped to Mexico from the Spanish Civil War, Pasteleria Suiza is still doing business in the same space that originally housed it, the Swiss naming reportedly taken because of its owner's fascination with the nation's technique and focus on craftsmanship. Seated at central to Condesa, the sizable Park España stretching out across the street, it was after a long day of eating and seeing the sights of historic Mexico City that the large building sporting red and white crosses played host for breakfast, an 8:15am arrival finding shelves just being stocked by two bakers while an elderly man and younger woman tidied up the Chocolates and items on the counter. Now under new ownership from its original iteration, but still featuring fine European Pastries alongside traditional favorites from Mexico, it was after some deliberation and wandering around the tightly packed shop that selections were slowly made from various racks, the full-sized Cakes and a variety of Chocolates all enticing and well priced, though only a cute Easter Chick atop a gold box was purchased, the two Eggs inside featuring Dark Chocolate with a good break and bitter notes that were hollowed out to contain a few small Candy pellets. Again surprised by the affordability of baked goods in Mexico City, the ten Pastries and aforementioned Chocolate ringing in at just 242 pesos, it was to the park that goods were taken along with several napkins and plastic utensils for indulgence, the warm Bacalao Empanada featuring reduced Codfish Stew that unfortunately tasted little like Fish and more like the spice mixture plus Potatoes and Peas, the 'Parque de Elote' another savory choice that tasted a lot like Creamed Corn baked soft and fluffy without a bit of Sugar added to the mix. Happy to see a Beso with Jam as opposed to the buttery Frosting which ruined one at Ideal, that Crisco-slick white paste unfortunately found at the center of an inedible Concha Sandwich instead, another odd bite was found within Powder Sugar dusted "Panque Plotono," expectations of a Cream Pie shattered by a Crust actually contained Banana Bread - not especially a bad thing, but perhaps unnecessary as neither layer was necessary or complimentary to the other. Finding Suiza's modestly spiced Carrot Cake underwhelming after the outright deliciousness of that at Bo Patisseria and therefore discarding most of it, far more intrigue roused by a 'Cubilete' de Queso that is essentially a molded Quick Bread sold at various shops with a significant degree of variability from place to place, the version offered by Pasteleria Suiza is more Cake-like than those found at Da Silva or Eno with a flavor not so different from traditional Cheese Flan, but in this case punctuated by small Blueberries that had mostly fallen to the base. Finding Mexican Cookies predictably dry, though both the Shortbread beneath Sprinkles and Walnut Studded Cocoa were well flavored, those looking for Suiza's best are encouraged to arrive early as the selection of Donuts goes quickly, a businesswoman that morning nearly clearing the shelf of what would turn out to be much like a Beignet, the still-warm pocket rolled in granulated Sugar stuffed at its core with sweet eggy Custard.

Yelp
A local friend brought me here saying they have the best Dia De Muertos desserts in the city (maybe Mexico?) I don't know what they are called but they are filled with cream. This place rocks!!!! You place all the pastries you want on a silver platter and drop them off and are given a receipt. After paying you picked up your pastries wrapped in an adorable package. I am going back one more time before leaving CDMX..

Yelp
Stopped in for Day do the Dead goodies and had some of the best treats I have ever had. The shop is super cute with lots of options including some amazing candies and pastries. The fruit pies were amazing and definitely stole the show but their cream puffs were also incredible. This is one of the most famous pastry shops in CDMX and so far as I can tell - for good reason. A target for each visit to the city for me :)

Yelp
The baked goods where tasty. We had conchas, strawberry cake, a tart, and an orange good. All of them were very worth the walk to get and purchase. We will be going here again before we leave this city.

Yelp
Place smells as good as it tastes. Got an empanada and some baked apple square pastry. Incredible.

Yelp
Delicious pastries and more. We grabbed a few and ate them on the way to the park. Flaky and tasty, not too sweet. A great first experience of Mexican pastelerias for us.

Yelp
I went back to this place three times hoping to figure out how it got such high reviews. I never figured that out. The desserts and pastries are excessively sweet and lacking in flavor. The texture can be gritty or slimy. For how many pesos (and calories!) you'll pay, you can definitely find better.
