Our 14 Favorite Restaurants In Liberty City - Miami - The Infatuation

"This soul food breakfast and lunch spot actually opens at midnight for those looking for late-night pancakes with a side of hookah. But it’s a great breakfast option too, and the small diner-esque dining room is a lot more laidback when the sun has risen. Pastime’s menu is huge, but the breakfast classics are our favorite. You can’t go wrong with the pancakes, sausage, or any of the waffle combinations. If you’re not in a breakfast mood, try the fried catfish sandwich. " - India Amos, Ryan Pfeffer, Virginia Otazo

First time eating here so the locals knew I was a new face lol. All the lady host are friendly and fineee. Now back to the food I ordered the grilled grouper with grits and eggs with a sweet pineapple punch. The grouper was well seasoned. The picture of the plate below is the aftermath.

We are from out of town and this place came recommended by a local. You’re greeted with a warm smile and great music. I ordered the catfish and grits with cheese and it was delish! Truly. We’ll be back when in Miami.

I used to always eat here in my younger years, so it’s nice to see that the place is still standing and the food is still good. Came here for my dad’s birthday on Thursday and our waitress, Tee Tee, made sure that he had a great time. The food was good and we were both happy that we decided to dine here.

This is my second time patronizing this restaurant. The food is on point. I enjoyed it. It was conveniently located on my commute. You can access by bus or train or drive there. I would recommend to order ahead to cut down on time. If you want an authentic black experience I definitely recommend this spot. Near or far it's worth the trip. I will add more pictures and reviews as I work myself into being a regular. 😉

As much as I knew about this place, I never knew that it was open overnight. A friend brought me there and I enjoyed everything. From the atmosphere to the good and efficient service we got. Also, the food that we ordered was prepared fresh and hot. I ordered the 10 wings and fries while my friend had some breakfast food. The wings were kinda puny but I enjoyed them nonetheless. Now that I know that, I'll DEFINITELY be back.

Well I asked for a country omelet but that wasn't the correct name. Instead of clarifying the correct name they just gave me a ham omelet. So I was supposed to say western omelet so I could have onions and peppers. I also said no grits since I'm on a diet...full of grits once I got it. I had this omelet the day before but a friend of mine ordered it for me..it was soo good thats why I went the next day..ordered on phone 20 minutes before I got there..when I arrived they said not ready because not enough ham. So I had to wait 10 minutes longer so they can add bacon that I substituted. Could've got 5 stars but them grits all over my omelet and extra time waiting wasn't kosher. UPDATE The grilled tilapia was good.

Yelp
food is amazing it's a nice little spot with good music only problem is they always allow themselves to get overrun with orders and when they get too busy they don't want your money anymore they stop picking up the phone so you end up waiting for over an hour for food. efficiency is holding this place back . food is good enough to support a bigger location and more then 1 person taking orders. it's not her fault what are they doing with the money?

Yelp
Such a neighborhood gem! Formally known as MLK restaurant (now at a new location), Pastime serves great breakfast. We tried: Steak, eggs & Waffles Georgia sausage, eggs & French toast In the past I have tried: Chicken and waffles Lemonade On this particular day, they didn't have lemonade which was actually pretty sad. They have the best lemonade I have ever tasted lol true, authentic, "black lemonade." The waffles were perfectly soft with a nice sprinkle of powdered sugar. My favorite thing about this restaurant are the prices and location. It's conveniently located and promises a great breakfast for any budget. I will definitely return.

Yelp
The food was garbage the porkchop was very old and dark, you guys charge to much for a nasty, thin end cut porkchop. The home fries was dry and not season, I would never again. I need a refund.

Yelp
Food amazing eat here every time I'm on break working my over nights but late night probably not the best time to if you expecting them to have great attitudes but the food makes up for it

Yelp
If you all are familiar with MLK, this restaurant is located where MLK used to be located. From what I gathered, MLK owners weren't doing what they were supposed to and the owners of the building took it back. Or something along those lines. Food wise the food seems to be the same. I had the fried Tilapia breakfast which included grits and eggs. My son had pancakes with bacon and eggs and our other guest had the same. They both enjoyed their breakfast. Our other guest said the pancakes were ok. I thoroughly enjoyed my fish. I forgot to tell them to fry it hard but it was still good and flavorful. Didn't taste bland at all. One thing I noticed is that toast isn't included with the breakfasts, which I like. Idk if you have to ask for it specifically or if it comes with certain breakfasts. Customer service was great. That is one change that I can certainly appreciate from the previous owners. Service was quick as well. Overall we enjoyed our breakfast and would certainly come back.

Yelp
This place has been here for years and years. The servers are usually friendly and I leave satisfied whether taking orders to go or dining in . There was only one instance where there were egg shells in my fried eggs. I'm sure if I didn't order to go I would've been able to return it with no problem. However, I live about 30 minutes away. It is worth the drive . It reminds me of my child hood meals. I would say be really specific when you order so it can come out just the way you like it !!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised! Walked in on my way to the MLK building because I hadn't had breakfast yet, and it's the only place serving breakfast in walking distance. Open at 6am and they have a wide variety of seafood breakfast. I had the special Zesty beef sandwich. Portion was good! The sandwich was overflowing with beef. I feel like I got my money's worth. The onions and bell peppers were cooked to perfection. My only gripe about the sandwich is that it was overflowing with A1 steak sauce. Maybe if it only had a little bit, it would be perfect. The fries were battered lightly and fried perfectly! I could see them putting cajun seasoning on them and being one of the better fry joints out there. Nice homey atmosphere and very welcoming staff. Music is a little loud for my personal taste but that's just me being picky.

Yelp
I am very impressed by the service and the food. Both of good quality and the wait time is little to none. This salmon croquett breakfast is to die for. Great Job!! Keep it up!!!

Yelp
My partner is from Miami and knows all the little or big spots. I don't know how long they been around but seems like for a very long time. It is not in the best location, however if you live nearby just check it out. The food reminds you of a homecook meal. We dined in and I had the beef sausage, which was a huge portion size comes with grits and eggs. Yummy!! The staff works on a self of urgency, while keeping their cool. Definitely gonna tell my partner to bring me a plate next time he swings by!

Yelp
I came here for breakfast around 9am it was pretty packed! A local recommended to me and I'm always excited to support black owned business but the waitresses weren't ass accommodating as I would've expected. The place was JAM PACKED with older black gentlemen only. I was like literally the only girl customer in there and you'd think the girls would've been a little nicer or prompt with my order request for all drums and extra well done waffle... tuh. Oh well; it got the job done none the less...

Yelp
I loved the liver. The grits were salty. The cook came out tasted the grits off off my plate and said to the waitress, "they said the grits are salty but there are not". She offered to take the grits back I told her don't worry about, but she insisted. The cook scraped the grits off my plate at the table into a bowl of grits she brought out. She left the liver on the table. The waitress came back and got the liver, which Iwas already eating. I told the waitress that I ordered smothered liver, fried eggs, and cheddar cheese on my grits. The waitress returned with the liver and grits, they were still salty. I asked for the check. When the waitress returned I informed her that the grits were still salty and I didn't eat them. The cook again was pretty much confrontational to the point that I said Maam don't worry about it I just wont come back. I was pretty much over it when she scrapped those grits off my plate in my face to go put water in them to make them less salty. Moving forward I'll smother my own liver.

Yelp
I've been going to Past Time for years but I'm noticing how slack they have gotten. The servers are always pleasant but the cook is another thing. I always order a grill chicken omelette with cheese, spinach, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes. This time I only had 3 small pieces of chicken and uncooked vegetables Inside of my omelette. I was highly disappointed! I threw away half of my food. I was craving for it too. Anyway, I won't be back for a while.

Yelp
My husband and I just stopped in for a quick breakfast on Saturday morning. He had the fried catfish, grits and eggs and I had a chicken omlet with onion and peppers. My omlet was amazing! My husband's breakfast was on point too! Chloe took good care of us. It is worth a try!
