Where to Find Birthday Freebies in Portland

"Pastini fans may remember when this Oregon-based Italian chain offered a full-on entree for birthday visitors; while those days are gone, customers can still get a free dessert after a birthday meal, be it a slab of tiramisu or a scoop of gelato. The restaurant’s chocolate tartufo — chocolate cake with a chocolate truffle center — may be the move, in terms of sheer decadence. Pastini operates locations throughout Portland, as well as cities like Eugene and Bend." - Janelle Lassalle

I’m in town for a work meeting and I walked up from the DoubleTree for a quick lunch and I was not disappointed. Elise was my server and was delightful. The food was fresh and amazing. Highly recommend, even if the road crews are in the way.

Google
First time coming here, I love the small quaint feeling of the restaurant, staff was super friendly and efficient, the food was amazing, I could eat a few plates of the bruschetta with the ricotta spread (deserves a chefs kiss). The prices on the dishes make this place super affordable for a family, especially in this economy. I would recommend Pastini’s to anyone looking for some good Italian food that’s actually Italian and prepared with a love for cooking!!

Google
Food was delicious!!! The garlic bread with herb butter is absolute gas! It was too good to be true. The kitchen took a while to get the entrees out, but it was a Friday night and a full house so the wait was understandable. Shout out to Miranda for her lovely customer service, she was great!!

After a much longer drive down from Seattle than originally expected, I was in need of a good meal. I saw the ratings for Pastini were good and decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did, as it had a wide variety of different options available. In the end, I opted for the Bolognese with a side of Parmesan garlic bread. The food was excellent! However, the parking lot right next to the restaurant is a little confusing on how to pay with the app. If possible, I’d recommend parking on the street. Despite this, I was able to use the pay-by-phone option without issue.

Google
What a delightful little gem. The service here was great and the food was even better. It’s a cute small location and only street parking available which could be difficult but definitely worth checking out. I was very surprised going in and wasn’t really sure what to expect but I left satisfied and full.❤️👍Check it out next time you’re looking for some good pasta. 🍝

Google
Mmmm! The pasta here is incredible. I had the braised short rib ravioli with a butter marinara sauce. The Parmesan bread was so good that we ordered double. The service for our group of 6 was great. It’s a great neighborhood restaurant but not lots of parking.

Yelp
Food was tasty. We had the bruschetta, and I ordered a special pasta, which was rigatoni and porchetta, with a sage cream sauce. The porchetta was a little too salty for me, but overall it was good. I had a strawberry balsamic soda, and the table shared several desserts. The cookie with gelato was the best, we thought, and the ice cream that came with the chocolate tartufo was better than the cake itself. The tiramisu was fresh, though not the best I've had. Overall, worth going, would go back. Ambiance is noisy, good for groups, not the sort of place I'd want to go for a quiet date. Service was polite and attentive enough.

Yelp
We frequent Pastini quite often and enjoy the food very much. The service is always spot on, so I would recommend them very much.

Yelp
This local staple has it all: Ambiance, consistently good food, friendly staff. My personal favorite location is NE Broadway, but I have been happy to visit the other locations with similar positive experiences. The pasta is fresh, the selection of wines is excellent, and on occasion, I'll order a well-crafted Old Fashioned. Importantly, when I ask for my favorite preferences, the wait staff is always happy to help out, making the experience friendly, welcoming, and the place to go for my Italian cravings. Thanks Pastini!

Yelp
The food was awful. The " Bolognese." Was tasteless large chunks of ground beef. The only thing I had that was OK was a cocktail.
google avatar

Kris S.

Yelp
Oh em gee. I honestly felt like I was back in Florence for a minute at my fav pasta hole in the wall. The tagliatelle was perfectly cooked. The shrimp was amazingly seasoned. The lemonade was refreshing (even more so with the shot of vodka added lmao). Overall, 10/10 better recommend!

Yelp
We ate at Pastini's again last night - always a delightful experience! Every time we visit Portland, we make it a priority to have dinner there. The food is amazing topped only by the wonderful staff. The pasta dishes are delicious, the salads are fresh and tasty, the desserts are decedent, and the house wine is great! (Be sure and get a bottle of wine to go for 1/2 price) Dennis was our server and he made our experience with our 2 yr old granddaughter over-the-top! We love this place!

Yelp
Monday night around 6 we had an online order for pick up that we placed hours in advance to catch our movie. The restaurant was getting swarmed just about every 45 seconds the door got opened by a door dasher, a mobile order, or someone wanting to be put on the waiting list. We stood in the crowd for 10 minutes watching the poor hostess get anxiety stress tested non stop. She was a younger girl with brown hair and she probably doesn't get paid enough to deal with what transpiring inside this mini pastini. I was 100% positive my girlfriends order was just sitting on the table so I walked over to grab it and the server with black hair gave me his sassy side. Anyways we ended up finally getting the order and snuck it inside the theater so we could eat it.

Yelp
We ordered takeout and it was delicious! It was so good that we barely got pictures as we dug in so quickly. We plan on coming in for a sit down dinner soon. Definitely recommend giving them a try.

Yelp
The service at Pastini was great. The food was good, but could've been better. Wine selection was also very good. We had starters, dinner, and dessert as a large party. Very comfortable for large parties and families.

Yelp
Inconsistent meals and definitely overpriced for non-authentic (mom & pop) pasta. I only do lunch special now for the reasonable price. Last visit I ordered the cheese lasagna and it came out burnt/black on the edges. I'll admit I came in towards the end (half hour prior to end) of lunch service so not being too harsh in criticism . The previous time I ordered this same dish though, the lasagna was only warm, not hot. Not enough time under the warmer. I used to love to come here more when prices were more reasonable and meals consistent. Other locations don't seem to have this issue.

Yelp
Always reliable- well done pasta options- decent wines My home base on Broadway always has good service and feels very neighborhoody

Yelp
I ordered from Pastini's GrubHub North East Broadway. I ordered the shrimp scampi which turned out to be a bowl of overcooked shrimp in oil and a bunch of fake garlic. Pre-chopped garlic in water I don't know why restaurants are doing this but that garlic is disgusting and they put a lot of it on their, way too much. I don't know if they think it's going to make it taste better or what, it doesn't. my partner had a Cobb salad, which was not that great either the ciabatta bread that came with the shrimp also tasted like it was on the verge of being moldy it had a funny taste. I do not want to pay for this poor quality food, zero presentation.Sad. Portland is no longer the food Mecca It was trying to be a few years ago. Start with fresh herbs and garlic if you use real garlic, you won't have to use as much. There wasn't even fresh parsley on the scampi. What tha?

Yelp
I ordered to go and was able to do so online. I was also able to pay for it which made it pretty easy and quick to pick up. This is located in an area where there is street parking. I ordered the papardelle with Bolognese and an order of garlic bread. The past does come with a couple small pieces of bread too. My food was ready when I got there and brought to me quickly. It was pretty busy in there. The dish was as very good! The garlic bread was just the right amount. Not too strong but still tasty! I enjoyed this!!

Yelp
I went to the place downtown and man I am blown away the service was really great. Went in almost to closing to see if they would maybe be mad or bothered about us eating so close to closing but nope they are awesome and I tell you they were actually happy because we ate quick and enjoyed every second of it. And incase you guys were wondering what I ordered. I ordered chicken fettuccine with the spicy shrimp sauce and believe me you guys will definitely have seconds and more than likely always order it. I tipped well because they deserved every dollar and I gave thanks to the cooks because they gave me something to look forward to every time I go back. I am from Seattle and this pasta dish they should make a permanent entrée because trust me it will sell quick! Thank you for everyone reading my review and everyone who will order what I ordered. Next time I go. I will take pictures of the dish to show you what I ordered.

Yelp
The food was absolutely Excellent!! We just got back from Italy and I'll tell you what... the food here was better than Rome!!! Peggy our server was so fabulous and friendly she made us feel right at home and even let my husband taste 2 wines because he was indecisive, before pouring La Quercia Montepulciano and it was Great!!

Yelp
Few months back I posted an honest review about the food. I was disappointed because I have supported this restaurant since it opened many many years ago. I received a gift card and was asked to return and give them another chance. I am so happy to report they have totally redeemed themselves! The service and food was amazzzzzzzing!!! I got my favorite waiter who has been there since I first started supporting and his service was top notch as always!! The food was yummy to my tummy! I hate the leftovers for two days lol!! Thank you for listening to your customers and as promised I have updated my review. Its back on my top 5 favorite italian restaurants in PDX

Yelp
I ate here multiple times in a row after trying it. I've never been a big pasta fan (especially because of a gluten intolerance but I braced myself for a possible stomach ache. I stopped going due to that but nonetheless. worth it. haha

Yelp
I will try to be nice and sweet about my review ... I just want to say this was my first time eating at pastini, I seen they had semi good reviews. I wanted to check it out myself, as arriving they had a wait so I expected them to be very good ! I ordered a drink , a lemon drop . It was very tasty , definitely a good mix of liquor and sweenter added. I then continued to order my food , I order a salad for the appetizer. I order the Bistro salad , it was excellent. I wanted a side of bread with it . They were completely out of bread around 7pm ....... I finished my salad , I then ordered the braised short rib ravioli.......... Let me just say that was the most tasteless, undercooked , unseasoned , watery pasta I ever had in my life ... it was so disgusting, I didn't even know what to do with it . I felt like I was being pranked ... when I say it was so disgusting . I don't understand how they have any review about flavor. It was like they poured faucet water in it, then added the ravioli with the meat. I felt so bad because the young girl who was my server knew I didn't like it. She felt so so so bad . The service though is 10/10 , the young girl who was my server was so so sweet . I left her a good tip even though my food was horrible. I just want to say yall need to stop leaving good reviews on here. If the food isn't really good , don't get on this app like it some wonderful pasta . The reviews definitely baffle me to the fullest ! I'm a food person and I wouldn't lie and say a place is nasty when it's not .. But pastini is gross . Please take my advice and go elsewhere. Portland has really good authentic pasta places , but this place isn't one of them .
google avatar

Yelp
You may not be able to see all the wonderful pasta we enjoyed but it was amazing. Pastini is a classic Italian restaurant featuring some of the best pasta in PDX. Have you ever been to a place where everything on the menu was to die for and you can't choose just one? We'll....that's this place. Suffice to say we all settled on the lasagna and boy was it good. It had the perfect balance between cheese and sauce. It was hot right out of the oven. It was my wife's birthday. What a way to celebrate her day.

Yelp
Came here for dinner for 1 during a conference. Had the butternut squash ravioli with brown butter sauce and roasted hazelnuts. The addition of sage leaves was unexpectedly pleasant. I will try this at home! Peach bellini was well done. Friendly service and cute atmosphere. Reasonable prices for Italian dining.
google avatar

Yelp
Was craving sushi, but ended up here. Such a cute little spot with lots of restaurants around. We started off with the parmesan bread, which was pretty fire. I got the Linguini Pesto Pollo which had chicken. I loved it & finished it all. My boyfriend got the Five Cheese Lasgana with Meat Sauce which he also devoured it. I recommend this place if you're craving Italian! Indoor vibe is super cute too.
google avatar

Natalia F.

Yelp
Wonderful wine selection and an overwhelmingly beautiful pasta selection! Things from meat pastas, chicken pastas to vegetarian/vegan options. My colleague had the pasta carbonara with the parmesan cream sauce and it was out of this world! I had the gorgonzola tortellini which were perfectly seasoned, proportioned and cooked. GREAT PLACE to go!

Carolyn F.

Yelp
Food was excellent but service was terrible! First time we have ever had a problem here. We were first customers in and last served. However the manager made it right by giving us coupons for free entrees the next visit.
google avatar

Christine N.

Yelp
Came in for Mother's Day and we were seated after about twenty minutes, which was pretty good considering everyone is super busy around this time. Ordered the spicy shrimp fettuccine, and it was absolutely delicious, although nowhere close to spicy. Overall, food was delicious, and service was pretty okay. The only complaint was that it was hot outside when we went and they did not have very good air conditioning :/

Maleena B.

Yelp
The Best food I've Ever eaten. The sauces are spot on. The service was attentive and informative. The atmosphere was beautiful. I'd give the place 6 stars if possible. Thank you so much for making the evening out of this World in every way!!

Yelp
When it comes to what kind of kitchen with Ümit tonight. Would very rarely come first in my mind but my husband loves it so when I saw this place where we drove by and it said freshly made pasta I always thought we should try it. and I am glad we did the pasta is really good and the bite of the small restaurant that's good as well the crew takes good care of you and explain the menu when needed I decided what dish I want and left to the bathroom so my hubby ordered it for me but there was a misunderstanding and he ordered the wrong one for me and when the food came I was a little bit surprised, the waiter noticed that and came back a couple seconds later he ask me if ieverything is right and I said yes everything is right what you have done, but we ordered the wrong food Guess what, they took away the wrongly ordered food, took it off the chedk and sent out the food that I wanted it in the first place - this is great customer service and I appreciated that Both items where very tasty. Chicken Piccata and Shrimp Scampi so I will recommend this place for all pasta lover and since I am not one of them also to all other humans that love good food :)

Lucero M.

Yelp
Peaceful environment, great and quick service. Got the baked ziti and it tasted fresh and delicious.

T S. F.

Yelp
Ravioli was not house made, sauce was not coordinated to ravioli, garlic bread was marginal. Pretty sad because pasta is one of the easiest foods to make... Why would you buy it from a vendor? Severely disappointed... Haven't they ever watched 'Kitchen Nightmares'. Make the food... Don't dish out Sysco... Or worse. Never again. (I can get Buitoni at the grocery store and it's better).
google avatar

Yelp
*que me drooling before I even got here* The minute I saw the menu, I knew I wanted to go here. We went for lunch, but didn't even get the lunch options! It is a great deal though - for $11, you get a pasta and a soup or salad. The inside seemed like a chain, not super cozy or warm like an Italian restaurant should be, but we still enjoyed it. My husband and I both got a main entree of pasta with a Caesar salad. Both the salad and the pasta came with a slice of ciabatta bread, so we didn't need to order any bread! The side salad was a great size, especially for the price. As far as pasta goes, I got the cavatappi primavera with the Parmesan cream sauce. Great size and portion, with 2 pieces of bread. This meal was *chefs kiss*. I feel like restaurants say your pasta gets veggies and then gives you 1 pea, but this had so many veggies!! The amount of sauce was perfect too and it was not too creamy, which I was very glad about. I am not sure what exact pasta my husband got, but it had light sauce with basil and sausage and he loved it! Perfect spot to try in Portland. If we lived here, this would be a favorite!

Yelp
My friend was craving Italian for her makeup bday, so we ended up at Pastini. It was my first time. I would give it 5 stars for service. Despite being very business, Dennis C. was friendly and took time to answer our questions about the menu. Dennis was super knowledgeable about all of the items. We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy a really lovely, leisurely dinner. The food was closer to 3 stars though. The value and portion sizes were good, but both of us felt our pastas were a little bland and ended up asking for extra cheese and red pepper flakes. Decent casual Italian bite overall even if perhaps more seasoning was needed.

Yelp
My friend and I met up during lunch to celebrate her birthday today. Our server Ari went out of her way to make our time together special, including comforting me when I spilled an entire glass of iced tea in my lap. I felt like a complete numbskull and she totally brushed it off and helped us move to a different table. It was very graceful and charming of her, thank you Ari! I ordered Linguini Piccata, a tasty dish with roasted chicken, capers and Parmesan. It doesn't get any better than that! Our food was served lightening fast, and Ari checked in with us multiple times. (We didn't rule out the possibility of me spilling another glass of tea in my lap) Thanks for making our afternoon break special, Pastini. The birthday club is a nice reward - free lunch on your birthday is a great way to celebrate!
google avatar

Chance H.

Yelp
Service was fine, everyone was nice. But make no mistake, this place is basically an Olive Garden. Everything was sub mediocre - watery, bland, flavorless. I've been more impressed by microwaveable pastas.
google avatar

Jodie E.

Yelp
I've always loved this place but the service is good and the food is always tasty and hot. It's a comfy place to chat with friends and they have a few outside tables as well.
google avatar

Randy B.

Yelp
Portland is not my favorite city when it comes to traffic, but there are great places to eat. Pastini just happens to be one of them. I had a dish with shrimp and Alfredo sauce. I didn't know anyone still made it like they do. There were plenty of shrimp in it. The flavor was great. I had to get a carton to take what I couldn't finish back home with me. The place was packed. It is much larger than I expected. It's very cozy inside. They do have some tables on the sidewalk which we chose. Our waitress was excellent. Unfortunately, I can't remember her name. Thanks to the restaurant and staff for making our short stay in Portland better.
google avatar

Caroline R.

Yelp
Have eaten in this restaurant many times and food was great. This time however Ordered salad through Grubhub and it was awful. Clearly wrote for no cheese 3 times and salad came with cheese. Seemed prepackaged. It was like getting a grocery store prepackaged salad.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
Yummy. Good service. Mac is a little too dry and sauce too watery. Bread was soft. Very aesthetic. Clean.
google avatar

Khadija S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood. Service, lacking. Pasta, good. Went there for an early dinner and the place was decently full. I was seated right away but it took at least 10 minutes before someone offered water or took my order. This being said, staff was hustling and bustling around me serving other tables but didn't acknowledge me. I got the fettuccini Alfredo, no protein. The pastas come with two small pieces of (focaccia?) bread. I ordered some garlic bread with it ($2.95). The garlic bread was super salty and inedible. The fettuccini Alfredo was cheesy and gooey and just what I wanted to eat that day. I don't think I'll try this location again though. For me it was the service that was a big turn off. I'd like to be acknowledged even if for water.
google avatar

Nyla M.

Yelp
Dependable comfort food (if a bit overpriced). I've been here three times with things consistent enough to warrant a review. Service is always friendly. The place is usually crowded but I haven't had to wait more than five minutes ever. They have a daily special. I recommend getting that, whatever it may be. This time it was lemony prawns over spaghetti. Decent enough prawns, nice summery sauce with a delicate flavor, al dente pasta. The Chicken Piccata is usually reliable. Chicken bites are a touch over cooked but the flavor overall is nice, particularly if you ask for, then add, a bit of Parmesan. The meatballs, which you can order a la carte, seem to appeal to hungry men. I find them devoid of flavor. Skip them. This is the second time I tried, and found lacking, the Caprese salad. I mean, it is the day before August-unripe store bought cheap tomatoes don't cut it. Both times I had the same experience. They charge enough to give us sweet, flavorful heirlooms. Get your Caprese on elsewhere and opt for the spinach salad instead. It's fresh and clean. They have a nice little wine selection and if you get there before 5:30, the prices are quite reasonable. I saw lots of tables happily chowing down on the side of garlic toast but I get enough carbs with the pasta. If you want a decent enough, slightly Italian, pasta fix where you can show up in your gym clothes (yes, obnoxious "personal trainer" at the next table, I am talking about you) you will be happy here. It's a low key, friendly place and that counts for something.

Yelp
The best, hands-down, Italian in town. This restaurant has only improved since Covid! I go about 2-3 times per month and have tried most items on the menu. The food is clean, you're provided with generous servings, they don't over over-charge, and the food is deliciously prepared and well-flavored/spiced. If you enjoy a little "spirit" with your meal, I highly recommend the blood orange margarita (NE Broadway location), the Manhattan and their house red wine. The service is great and my experience is primarily with the NE Broadway location. The tiramisu is amazing (they've improved their recipe). I make this favorite desert of mine from scratch and their recipe gives me a run for my money! I've included photos from my recent visits to this great little place! Bon apetit!

Yelp
This is undoubtedly a top notch Italian restaurant. It really makes me sad that I don't live there! I was in Portland for three days only- I ate at Pastini on the first night, loved it so much that I went back on the third day!! Since it was my first time in Oregon I was going to explore different options but their carbonara was simply irresistible. It was a Friday night and Sunday night, and both times we had the same server. She was very courteous, professional and attentive. Food took less than 10 minutes if I'm not mistaken. I usually try carbonara whenever I go to a new Italian restaurant. Pastini's carbonara is my taste because it has rather strong garlic flavor and it comes with tasty thick cut bacon. Everything is great. As I am writing this review, I wish I could go back ! My friend liked his baked ziti too.
google avatar

Liz F.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! Quality service and quality food. I hopped in here with a few friends while visiting town, craving some pasta before a big run I had a few days later. I ordered the Linguini Piccata, which has roasted chicken, capers and Parmesan. It was the perfect balance of meat to sauce to pasta. I would definitely come back here!
google avatar

Bec L.

Yelp
After eating here twice, I can say that this is one of the very best Italian eateries. We ordered caesar salads and several pasta dishes. All of the food was presented well; fresh and delicious! The wine is priced reasonably, the service has been top notch. We will be back, for sure.
google avatar

Drew C.

Yelp
Had to leave the Broadway location...was seated, but NO INTERACTION with the wait staff. Waited 25 minutes in a booth, and never was contacted by the staff. Great atmosphere, no service. I would not recommend dining in their store front. I have eaten here before, and had a good experience. Not this time. Probably won't dine here again. Maybe the Spaghetti Factory next time....
google avatar

Sierra T.

Yelp
We loved the downtown Portland location so we decided to try this one next. The food had amazing flavor but some of the pasta in the chicken Alfredo was still hard and uncooked, much to my spouse's dismay. Only the top was hot like it had sat in a warmer for a while. Dessert (tiramisu) was delicious and so was the braised beef tortellini. Service was fast. All-in-all may come again but not order the fettuccini.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Looks like no one is working there today. Walked in and stood there for a few minutes, while staff just stared around. It was definitely not short staffed either. I saw about 6+ people walking around or just standing in the back without acknowledging those who enter. Will definitely not be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been eating at this location for 21 years. I worked next-door when they first opened. I have never reviewed it before now. I order 2 dishes here. (I have had everything on the menu) The SPAGHETTI CON GAMBERETTI and Meat ball and pasta bake lunch special. They have now raised their lunch prices to $12.75 for a small entree and small salad with 2 Pieces of bread. The con gamberertti is now over $20.00. I am not sure why they are charging so much. They do not use organic food items, I don't even think the shrimp they use in the Gamberetti are wild. The ambience of the Restaurant is... there is no ambience. It is loud and small. I will continue to eat here because I am a creature of habit. Honestly there are no good Italian restaurants in the inner city core. It is nice to have something with tasty food even if I think it is over priced.

Yelp
Tasty, affordable, and great at cooking pasta al dente. The Carbonara was very good. The peas were fresh and toothsome, and the park to pasta ratio was bang on. Friendly wait staff and a nice clean setting to boot.
