Dependable comfort food (if a bit overpriced). I've been here three times with things consistent enough to warrant a review.
Service is always friendly. The place is usually crowded but I haven't had to wait more than five minutes ever. They have a daily special. I recommend getting that, whatever it may be. This time it was lemony prawns over spaghetti. Decent enough prawns, nice summery sauce with a delicate flavor, al dente pasta.
The Chicken Piccata is usually reliable. Chicken bites are a touch over cooked but the flavor overall is nice, particularly if you ask for, then add, a bit of Parmesan.
The meatballs, which you can order a la carte, seem to appeal to hungry men. I find them devoid of flavor. Skip them.
This is the second time I tried, and found lacking, the Caprese salad. I mean, it is the day before August-unripe store bought cheap tomatoes don't cut it. Both times I had the same experience. They charge enough to give us sweet, flavorful heirlooms. Get your Caprese on elsewhere and opt for the spinach salad instead. It's fresh and clean.
They have a nice little wine selection and if you get there before 5:30, the prices are quite reasonable.
I saw lots of tables happily chowing down on the side of garlic toast but I get enough carbs with the pasta.
If you want a decent enough, slightly Italian, pasta fix where you can show up in your gym clothes (yes, obnoxious "personal trainer" at the next table, I am talking about you) you will be happy here. It's a low key, friendly place and that counts for something.
