NYC Grocery Delivery: International Staples Are Harder to Find During Coronavirus | Eater NY

"The largest Indian grocery chain in the United States with about 50 stores, Patel Brothers briefly closed for 10 days and only recently reopened; one location in East Windsor temporarily stopped curbside pickup after receiving more than 700 orders in a single day (it normally handles about 80), and the chain is struggling with staff shortages that limit its ability to hire and train during the crisis." - Charu Suri

Google
Patel Brothers in East Windsor for quality and fresh groceries, is a good place to go to. Green vegetables are available galore and they are reasonably priced. It’s a Supermarket to fit every Budget. Apart from groceries which you need for your day to day snacks and meals, variety of other products are available and well stocked. However they have been constantly increasing their prices at regular intervals. Though there are other Supermarket options available, regular customers prefer going to Patel Brothers probably due loyalty issue, but end up paying much more than other options. I will give an example of one item, which is readymade Dosa Batter, which was $9.99 for a party size 2 weeks ago, today it cost me $11.99 !! What is the rationale ? This is absolutely disappointing for fixed income people especially seniors and retirees. And there is considerable increase on other grocery items too. The authorities concerned should look into this issue which is causing lot of concern amongst people for whom every dollar counts

Google
Patel Brothers in East Windsor is an excellent Indian grocery store. They stack merchandise in an organized manner. Good display. And their food counter is also very good. Specially, the takeout and eaten facility in that store is great and the service is also excellent. There are sugarcane juices is the best they make in front of the customer on order. They add some line and make it so delicious. Also, they have the dish called Pani Puri, which is very famous there and the person serving is also customer friendly and efficient. But prices are slightly high when compared to the Indian grocery shops in Edison, New Jersey. I definitely recommend this grocery store.

Google
Our go to store for groceries. Blessed to live in the vicinity making stocking supplies an ease. Besides the wide selection of groceries, specifically Indian groceries, the live food section serving wide selection of chapatis, veg curries is a great addition. The revamped store with bright lighting and continous great music playing in the background make shopping here a pleasurable experince. My only suggestion to the store is to ensure transparency in pricing and continue relentless efforts to build trust with the community you serve. Think Costco 😀. Best wishes always.

Today we ordered tandoori Maggie togo for my kids. We order this regularly. We are very much shocked to see too much food colour this time and flavour was worst.I can see only onions, all ingredients are missing.. we thrown that in thrash instead of feeding my kids… Today they looted my money with nonsense food.Attached photo of Maggie with excess food colour…

Coming from Michigan and getting an opportunity to visit such a big store gave us a feeling of going to grocery stores in Dubai where we used to get a lot of Indian stuffs easily. This place offers everything an Indian family needs. They have fresh food items, fresh snacks, fresh vegetables, all type of snacks, rice, flour, frozen items, sweets and what not. The hall of the fame at this place is live chat counter and is a must try. Highly recommended to at least go and try live chat.

Google
I have many Indian groceries around my house but by default I come here every time. They offer a wide variety of produce at a reasonable price and it’s always fresh and does not rot in the fridge after a few days. I can literally find everything I need here - all seasonal items and knick-knacks for festivities. Since it’s located in a strip mall I also save time by combining a few errands together.

Yelp
Whenever I am around Princeton I make sure to stop by at the Patel Brothers to stock up on some Indian pantry items. Compared to other Indian groceries this place is large and relatively clean. It gets very crowded on weekends so keep that in mind. They have all sorts of produce, and some even packaged chopped and sliced vegetables for convenience. They also have nice bakery section where they are constantly cranking out fresh rotis; they also have all sorts of savory sides as samosa, kati, and other yummy food. Around the produce section they also have store prepared various curries and they are decently priced. I would say the downside of this market is the space is not well organized especially around the bakery section; and the cashiers tend to be grumpy Oh, also, unlike smaller Indian markets this place does not sell atta flour, basmati, and other flour and rice in smaller bags. I am used to getting basmati in a 5lb bag, but here I bought a 10 lb bag

Yelp
Recent experience: cashier was rude and doesn't understand the concept of customer service. She Walked away without telling me then when I complained she laughed. Didnt bother complaining to her supervisor because management doesn't seem to care as long as the store makes money. Not surprised that other reviews mention rude and untruthful staff. Another market will be opening next door to them and take some of their business. Maybe then they will learn.

Yelp
Nice store with all Asian grocery needs . As with other stores, they have a roti store and they also sold other stuff like samosa , pav bun , pav veg kheema etc . We got some dabeli pav and it didn't taste good . Wasn't fresh I think . I hope they don't sell old stuff ! Otherwise , the vegetable market and other grocery stuff was good . Billing was quick and service was ok . Overall a good shop for south jersey neighborhoods .

Yelp
Patel Brothers has become my go to for all my vegetables and fruit needs.... I have yet to see any out of date, dry, rotten or anything other than first quality produce in my weekly visits. Their bakery department has every Indian snack imaginable with a version of their Pizza being offered for pre order. Dry goods and chutneys are top notch and the frozen section is comprehensive. Patel Brothers is a gem....

Yelp
Bought cooked veg-biryani from them today. Found piece of plastic in their food. Never ever going to buy cooked food from them.

Yelp
With my ever growing desire to find fantastic cook books, I recently added a few Indian cookbooks and upon looking at my spice collection.. I was seriously lacking, in everything!! I didn't have any of the items needed in the recipe book to try and make dinner. I told Tammy we "Grab a jacket, were heading to Patel Brothers". It isn't a far drive from home, but as we walked in, neither of us knew where to even begin. So I called my girlfriend Poonam and Tammy called her girlfriend Suma and then we split up, each talking on the phone with our friends gathering important "intel" of the items our friends buy as staples in their homes. From vegetables, yogurt and spices to sauces, seasonings and dry items. But then we hit the ice creme and frozen items section and WE wanted everything!!!! We rolled up to the checkout counter with two carts full of delicious essentials. The staff is so friendly and I truly enjoyed talking to a couple of the customers who offered to help me when I couldn't tell which brands I needed. I absolutely love this market, it's clean and well stocked, the prices are very reasonable and with everything I bought, I was quite proud of the dinner I made that night Patel Brothers is definitely my go to market to help me out with learning recipes in my sweet little cookbook.

Yelp
Patel Brothers has plants, vegetables and fruits that I have never seen. EVER! so that means I am now in a scavenger hunt to identify what these fruits, veggies and herbs are and in the hunt for a treasure map-- I think gastronomists call it a "recipe." Can't wait to come back and make Fusion Colombian -Asian - Indian food.

Yelp
Top quality food and specialty items you can get no where else. The new bakery design is gorgeous and the fresh baked goods are even better!

Yelp
It's usually a good place to buy Indian groceries, but the review is just for their Roti's. The regular wheat Roti's had hair in it. The jowar and bajra roti had fungus on it in the inside Roti's the same day we got it. Unfortunately we don't live near the area to go back and return. Please be aware that their Roti's are not same day fresh. Inspect the Roti's thoroughly at the store before you buy them.

Yelp
check your bill they try to overprice when catch them they become extremely rude. Very unfriendly cashiers

Bhawna S.

Yelp
Pls check cashew quality. They sold cashew with web. It has holes with tiny worms.. Need to discard it immediately. When I called them they told they can't return it.

Yelp
Patel Brothers serves the large Indian-American community in the area. They carry their own brand on some items, "Swad", which means tasty. I wasn't able to find a specific brand of Tamarind Chutney, so I bought the Swad brand. My preferred brand definitely much better; the Swad brand not so tasty in this item. I had to go to the other Indian store in town, which does carry that brand. Other than that... Their fruits and vegetables have always been fresh and the store very clean. You can find all kinds of indian spices, nuts, lentils, and basmati rices. The quantities are large, and prices are comparable on some items but others are a bit more expensive. They also carry a large frozen food section, with all kinds of Indian food options for those that may want to take a short cut to Indian cooking.

Deepa S.

Yelp
Overall Patel Brothers is my best grocery store for produce and lentils. The business about Roti and Pav and some subzis and snacks is probably not suitable for them. Their staff who makes these don't speak English or some of them don't even speak the native language. This is fine but when you ask them if stuff is 'Fresh' they always say 'YES'. This is for everything in Roti and snack section. They seem to lie. I got a few weeks back Khaman and pav. Khaman tasted stale and they were very old. I ended up getting food poisoning from it. Pav went bad with fungus the next day. The lady said they are fresh. Patel Brothers is loosing their trust. They need to keep their greediness away and keep what they always did before is keep their quality the best and prices reasonable.

Yelp
While it's not my type of grocery store, I could definitely see how this place has all the hype. Definitely a big array of spices, very fresh fruit and vegetables, and lots of great breads. I love how they even cook in the store, and have great food for you to eat there. That being said, it is a little bit big for me, and the store can get packed. Actually, extremely packed! All the aisles, there were tons of people, so this place definitely is popular! They should definitely limit how many people come in the store at a time, but otherwise a very nice food store!

Yelp
I like this place. It is nice to see no meat. I have no idea what at least half of the stuff is, and forget asking, you will be leaving america for awhile. I get a kick out of the fruits and vegetables, it's unique for me. I wish they would put a label or recipe in English here and there. They don't need my business since they are perfect for the locals. You can't beat the weekend specials.

Yelp
The onions we bought last time were perfect to look at but were incredibly flat! The store is good for quantity but just ok for quality. I'd make sure to not buy vegetables there that I'd find at a regular grocery store or Wegmans.

Yelp
Been a regular here as I love to buy fresh Roti (flat bread) or stuffed paratha such as potato, paneer (cheese) or Methi. During my visit last week, I purchased Kati roll and puran poli, both made on premises. I love the fact that the place is kept clean and up to my hygiene standards when they make the fresh bread. Produce is always fresh as well.

Yelp
This place is nestled in between a hair cut place and tj maxx. I believe it used to be a wegmans. It's quite large inside as usual. I do have to say I've been in many indian grocery stores in my time. This one is set up nicely and everything is very easy to find even for us Americans who have no knowledge of set ups. Their produce is beautifully fresh but prices are close to normal grocery stores, so theirs no competitiveness there. Their frozen foods and dairy are higher in price than I've seen. I did find everything I needed with the greatest of ease and no one sneered and made faces for me being there. I didn't go thru every aisle didn't have time for that maybe next trip. I did take a quick glance on aisles and they seem to have a wide variety of just about everything you need to cook. From spices to cookware and even quick frozen dinners, snacks and desserts. A huge selection of frozen breads from Naan to puri. I would definitely go back if I needed something quick for a meal or recipe.

Yelp
Cheap fresh produce, clean bathroom, friendly and efficient staff, a lot of Indian produce, a short walk from a Target and TJMaxx, etc.

John S.

Yelp
I'm a volunteer at the Rise Food Pantry in Hightstown. Patel Brothers donates good, fresh produce every week for our clients. The store is clean and organized and the staff are all very friendly. Thanks for the support! When you are in the area, try them out.

Yelp
Very nice all time favorite Indian store. I was surprised to see a full rack of Patanjali products. This is a very well organized store and very clean. Vegetables are fresh and all other items are stocked well. They have a new chat corner too. There were already 5 people waiting in line for chat, so did not try. Will try next time!

Yelp
Not everything was labelled properly when we went, but way bigger and has a huge offering compared to Indian grocers in Toronto. Offers so many variations of products I did not know existed!

K N.

Yelp
They have a big variety of things, but refuse to go inside because the cooking smell is horrible and they have no air or vent to air the place down, I have no idea how they even got a permit to even cook in the store, the smoke is everywhere, I went in for 5 minutes and came out smelling and full of smoke in my face, it's very hazarding in case of fire, not very smart to cook without air vent, will not be going back!!!!!!!!

Vahi C.

Yelp
Great place to buy Indian groceries. They carry a lot of brands and products that I was not aware of that even existed in India.

Neha M.

Yelp

Yelp
on 12/28/16 I had a very bad experience with the cashier at Patel Brothers. I went to talk to cashier looking for manager. I needed to make a simple exchange on a rotten papaya that my husband bought by mistake. I asked the other cashier for the manager or owner and nobody would admit who they were. all of a sudden the first cashier says "are you calling me a liar. she actually started to yell at me an all I wanted was to exchange a lousy piece of food, which never should have been put out in the first place. unfortunately my husband was not aware of the bad quality of food that was put out on the shelf. my suggestion would be to put out fresh food to enjoy and throw out spoiled garbage and maybe spend a little money on your customers. I have been a repeat customer and deserve more respect from the cashier. Because I spend a lot of money in this store. the cashiers need more manners and respect to customers.
