I’ve been going to this store since 1987, back then ıt was a dash in, dash out visit. There was a string of attacks on men of Indian descent, some brutal, some deadly, in this area (NJ/NY/PA); fear breeds ignorance of the unknown; and shopping was fearful at that time. But, Patel’s Cash & Carry stayed thorough ıt all, and the dash in and dash out became a 30+ year trip of slowly browsing to standing, to talking, to getting what I needed to cook my husband’s foods from Ethiopia, since a lot of what he ate resembled Indian cuisine. Although the times have changed, and the store has grown in size, color, light, presentation, employees, product availability, (we no longer see the owner, who would greet/help us even on crowed weekends), the ambience is the same. And I still go in for the lentils, spices, ginger and garlic paste, and treats that now line the shelves and cold sections that weren’t there decades ago. So, to all those Indian men, of Indian ancestry, especially the Patels, thanks for staying, even when it didn’t seem worth it, for you were instrumental in the happiness of my family, and me, as a Black American, at our dinner table. You helped me raise my sons to be men, for your products allowed me the opportunity to cook the foods that define their unique heritage here in America. Sorry, I normally don’t write this long, but it has to be said.

Everything is fun and games till you need to use the restroom. It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in 2 years. What’s worse? They store supplies in there. Absolutely wild. Questioning if I will continue to purchase with them going forward.

I've shopped at various big Indian grocery stores over the years (including other Patel bros locations which are pretty good) and I would 100% say by far the worst store that I've been to. The lack of so many items from other brands (they only sell mostly items from Gujarati companies which make low-quality products - SWAD and Deep) combined with the total lack of space make the shopping experience disastrous. Not to mention the constant cutting of lines as well. There are 2 other better stores in the same vicinity - Aapka Bazaar and Apna Bazaar which deserve way more crowd than this place. Next time when you want to purchase Indian items, look these 2 places up instead of coming here. However, the green veggies are fresh and good here. So I would just buy those and skip the rest.

I like going here because I find items that I don't find anywhere else. But Pay close attention to billing. If you miss a beat they will overcharge for things or bill two items instead of one. I got charged at least 15% over for the total. Some items were billed higher than what they were advertised at. The total amount is not big enough that I will go back and fight about it. But in current economic environment this is robbery. I will think about going there next time.

Patel Brothers is a well-known grocery store chain that specializes in Indian, Pakistani, and other South Asian food products. The store was founded in 1974 in Chicago, Illinois, and has since expanded to over 60 locations across the United States. Selection: One of the biggest draws of Patel Brothers is its wide selection of products. The store carries a large variety of spices, grains, flours, snacks, sweets, and other items that are not commonly found in mainstream grocery stores. They also have a good selection of fresh produce, including many hard-to-find fruits and vegetables. Quality: Overall, the quality of the products at Patel Brothers is quite good. They have a large selection of premium brands and many of the products are imported directly from South Asia. However, as with any grocery store, there are occasional quality issues with some of the products. Price: Prices at Patel Brothers are generally reasonable, especially considering the quality and selection of products. Some items may be slightly more expensive than at mainstream grocery stores, but this is often due to the fact that they are imported from overseas. Service: Patel Brothers has generally good customer service. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, especially when it comes to finding specific products or making recommendations. However, the stores can sometimes be crowded and the checkout lines can be long. Overall, Patel Brothers is a great option for anyone looking for South Asian food products. With its wide selection, good quality, and reasonable prices, it's a go-to destination for many people.

Vegetables selections are not extensive and the prices are not cheap comparing to other neighborhood stores. But the store is clean and the AC is adequate. No complaints there. But I wish they sell more meats like chicken, beef or lamb meat.

Google
Patel Brothers on India Street in Jersey City is a go-to spot for Indian groceries. The store is usually busy and a bit crowded, but you’ll find a wide selection of fresh produce, snacks, frozen foods, and every spice you could want. Prices are reasonable, especially for bulk items, and the variety is great for exploring new flavors. Some shoppers wish the aisles were larger, but the convenience and range make it a favorite for stocking up on essentials

Google
Patel Brothers in Jersey City is a tough place to shop. It’s always extremely crowded and the layout is so congested that it’s hard to move around, especially with a cart. The fresh produce section is usually underwhelming — limited selection and not always in the best condition. We’ve also come across expired items on the shelves more than once, which is really disappointing. That said, they do carry some hard-to-find Indian ingredients and snacks that are tough to get elsewhere, which is probably why people keep going back. But overall, the shopping experience could be much better with better organization, cleaner aisles, and more attention to product quality.

Yelp
This is a well-stocked grocery store with a good selection of fresh produce, frozen goods, snacks and a ton of spices. I usually stock up on my spices (I.e. cumin, coriander, bay leaves, turmeric powder and dried chili) in bulk here. The spices are definitely cheaper than Western grocery stores. I also get their frozen paneer, Indian snacks, fresh veggies that are hard to find in regular grocery stores like okra, curry leaves, small eggplants. They have walls of Indian snacks, from sweet to spicy to savory - the selection is so vast I can't decide! They also recently moved next door to a newer and bigger space, which is nice.

Yelp
When you are in downtown Manhattan you are equidistant from Jackson Heights and Jersey City, two clusters of Indian grocery stores. I went here for the first time, and was disappointed. The place was a dump. The shelves looked disorganized, the flooring was ripped out, and there were no customer service people in sight, just a couple of workers stocking the shelves. The assortment is limited relative to the larger locations although that was not an issue for me. What was however a deal breaker was that the handles of the bag they charged me for snapped on my way back home. Going here only reinforced my Indian grocery shopping (read "snack shopping") approach -- stick to the stores in midtown Manhattan. Visit Jackson Heights for shopping in bulk (which I never do). Patel Brothers is a venerable Indian supermarket chain, and this must be their smallest and ugliest location. The only reason I would go here is if I lived within a mile of the store. But the thought of returning to the store or living in the area both give me the shivers.

Yelp
They sell you stuff that has gone bad months ago, for example I bought this and had to toss it in garbage cause it was aweful

Anik T.

Yelp
The place is updated from next door and looks more decent. However, I am inclined to write a review on the people that work there. There is a girl at the very last counter(Sunday June 9th around 445pm) who is a Telugu speaking person. She is very rude and picks and legit throws away stuff showing no respect to customers. After payment she threw away the receipt without even turning around. I don't care if she is a student and trying to make a well being. If you don't like to work whatever it is you are doing, just don't work. Nobody is forcing you to work. Don't treat customers like crap and ruin any business.

Yelp
I love the huge variety of veggies here. Even in India, I don't get these many at the same spot. I wish they had a bigger snack section and better green tea varieties. I love this place and can't stop going there every two weeks, but there's a lot of room for improvement. Also, most of the cashiers are so gruff they are only if you speak Gujarati, what's up with that?

Yelp
Consistently fresher produce than the other grocery stores in the area. Large variety of fresh and prepackaged products catering to the Indian taste. Cleaner and better managed than most of the others around. The prices may be a tad bit higher, but well worth it in my opinion for the ease of navigation, wide aisles, relatively clean, well stocked store with helpful employees.

Yelp
I think it's ok to buy groceries here but watch out for sweets and other refrigerated items as they might be bad and they will still sell it. What upset me was when we came to return this item, the lady at the counter was giving a hard time... until we open the sweet box and then once other customers noticed the mold .. she refunded it. Learn customer service guys, the item cost $2.99 lol!

Yelp
This one my go to spot whenever I'm in Jackson height. They carry all kind of different vegetables, lentils of great varieties, even a choice of pickle it carries, not to mention all snack which I used to enjoy,I miss this place so much during quarantine period. As soon as this lifted, I will be here to shop veggie, snack and all the dry item. Thank you so much Patel brother, grocery shopping made it easier because of you.

Yelp
I really like Patel Brothers. Initially it was not that good but after they renovated and cleaned up the place its been awesome. I appreciate that now they give a proper bill. Groceries are good quality and wide selection.

Yelp
I have never been in an Indian grocery store. I think we should ALL expand our horizons. This was a leaning experience if I've ever had one. I ran in for things I didn't expect this place to have, pineapples and honey. Don't ask... Walking around the store, looking around, I noticed the prices, everything seemed to be priced in bulk. Seeing 20lb bags of rice for $10-15 was shocking. Considering i was in Jersey helped, but even at a larger store, these prices were phenomenal. The employees were very nice and helped me find what I needed. There is no store uniform, you have to be careful and notice how people walk though the store to figure out if they work there. I got lucky!!! The cashier was pleasant enough and I was out in minutes. I wanna go back.

Yelp
Small store, but sells everything. Its slightly crammed, but you'll find everything you need. Some of the veggies were slightly rotten and were replaced when requested. I've been to their store in Charlotte, NC and it's much bigger and better in terms of quality of produce. Nevertheless, a one stop shop for all Indian groceries.

Yelp
I go here all the time. One of the best thing about this store is that they except credit cards with no minimum, which some indian stores don't.

Yelp
I have been going to Patel brothers for more than 9 years and I know the owner very well. He is a very helpful and very customer friendly. The store is little bit clumsy but you get all Indian grocery you can imagine. Now that they have modern pos system, you know what you are paying for. I prefer Patel brothers over other grocery stores.

Yelp
I shop here frequently for large bags of dried legumes ($7.99/7 lbs) such as chick peas, lentils, kidney beans, etc. This store is full of ethnic Indian foods, fresh produce, and large packages of rice, grains, and beans. As with most Indian groceries, there is no meat department but you can purchase dairy products in the refrigerator and freezer. No take-out, no deli counter, but this is what Indians call a supermarket.

Taiba A.

Yelp
This is a grocery store offering mainly Indian fruits/veggies, masalas, frozen items, lentils, grains and other items. Every time I go here, I can't seem to walk in an aisle without running into others or their employees stocking groceries. Aisles are narrow and at any given time their employees are stocking items in the middle of each. You can count on getting most desi vegetables here - bhindi (okra), green chillies, arvi (tarot root), parval, etc. And they carry all types of lentils, Indian whole wheat brands and Basmati rice brands. The frozen food aisle seems pretty good too. But they don't carry any meat - except some premade frozen entrees containing chicken, such as frozen chicken samosas. Check-out counters have been fast. Overall, it's not a customized experience nor one to make you feel special. If you want some desi vegetarian groceries and don't mind the crowded narrow aisles, this is for you.

Yelp
Lina D. is a fake Yelp reviewer?! DO NOT follow her! This Patel Bros. is okay! I seen less crowded, cleaner, and a better experience overall at other establishments. The price to weight ratio is excellent! The only problem I had was when one of the cashiers and Hispanic workers took me to the back room. I just wanted to buy milk, but I got more than I asked for. As I was guided to the back room. The 2 employees closed and locked the door. Then they barricaded it, so I couldn't escape. Soon, the Hispanic worker began to grope me and started taking off my clothes. Soon, the cashier (woman) began to undress herself and went down on her knees. As she gave me a pleasurable time! I didn't expect that at all. The Hispanic worker then began to join the woman. After I had released my fluids, the Hispanic worker went to the storage room and bought back a hammer and toaster. At that point, both workers jumped me, they stole my money, ID, and other belonging. I was chloroformed by them. I soon realized, that they had assaulted me when I was out. I saw bruising and swelling on my genitals. I made the assumption that they destroyed my dick with the hammer so it can fit in the toaster. I regret every going there. My doctor said I won't be able to reproduce. My dick has shrunk from 8in. to 5 3/8in. I didn't want to sue for several reasons that cannot be shared. If I were you I HIGHLY ADVISE you not to ask for milk, otherwise you'll be in danger.
