While visiting Montreal, we came across town to get Patisserie Armenia's Lahmajoun. I'm Armenian and Lahmajoun is one of my favorite foods but it's hard to find unless you're in an area with a sizable Armenian population. This Lahmajoun was so delicious, with perfect spices and an impossibly light crust.
We also got Choreg, which is like Armenian brioche but with a unique flavor from ground nigella and mahlab seeds that gives it a delicate almond, vanilla, or cherry flavor that's a bit hard to place. The Choreg was light, fluffy and flavorful and apparently they are known across the region for it.
Owner and baker Harut was warm and welcoming to his family-owned business that's been handed down through the generations. It must be well-known because there was a steady stream of locals who came in to buy Lahmajoun.
The setting is small and no frills, which is fine because here's what to do: call ahead to make sure they have what you want, then pickup a couple dozen Lahmajoun to take home and serve for lunch or dinner with salad. And get a loaf of fluffy Choreg and have it with your morning coffee.
