The Essential Montreal Croissants | Eater Montreal

"As more of a wholesale location, Bel Air may overwhelm patrons with their sheer selection, but when it comes to the croissants, it’s hard to argue with their mounds of soft, flaky pastries. At $12 for a dozen, it’s worth the trip in weight." - Heather Vandenengel

I am extremely disappointed. I preordered a cake that was supposed to be for 5 people, but it was ridiculously small, barely enough for 2, maybe 3 at best. I used to come here very often when I was younger and would still buy cakes from them growing up. This was 30$ and for the same price I could have gotten something bigger from their ready-made ones that are honestly kind of the same effort. Sadly I could not get a refund and could not even exchange even if I tried as they did not have any good ready-made cakes I could use instead. This experience was a total letdown. I expected much better from a place that claims to sell quality desserts. As you can see in the picture it was definitely not the same quality as the picture on the website. I know the cake moved in the box, that’s not the point. If you’re going to advertise cakes as serving 5 people, please be honest about the real size. This couldn’t feed 5 people. Maybe 5 bites, but definitely not 5 people.

I honestly don’t even know where to start. I ordered a cake for five people from this pâtisserie, expecting something decent, elegant, and proportionate to the price and reputation they claim to have. What I received was, without exaggeration, one of the smallest and most disappointing cakes I’ve ever seen. It looked more like a dessert sample than a cake meant for several people. The size was ridiculous it could barely serve two modest slices, let alone five. I actually had to cut it into paper-thin pieces just so everyone could get a taste, and even then, it felt embarrassing to put something so small on the table. For the amount of money I paid, I expected at least a proper family-sized cake, not something that looked like it was made for display. The worst part is how cheap it all felt. The box, the presentation, even the taste everything screamed “budget corner bakery,” not a professional pâtisserie. I truly regret trusting them with my order, especially for an occasion where I wanted to impress my guests. Instead, it became a topic of laughter and disbelief. To anyone considering ordering here: don’t waste your time or money. There are plenty of other bakeries that respect their customers and actually deliver what they promise. I won’t be coming back, and I’ll make sure everyone I know hears about this disappointing experience.

Honestly, this place should win an award for “smallest cake ever sold at full price.” I ordered a cake for five people and got something so tiny it could barely feed one hungry person. When I opened the box, I actually laughed it looked like a sample, not a real cake. For what they charge, it’s ridiculous. The presentation felt cheap, the portion was embarrassing, and the whole experience was a joke. If you enjoy overpaying for mini desserts, this is your spot. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and order anywhere else.

The worst cake ever. The base of cake was overcooked and dry, the cream was tooo sweet that you could feel the crystals of sugar. Sorry for the bad review.

Went here cause I have a doctor appointment not far away from this pastry shop. So I took a cheese croissant for breakfast. And surprisingly, it was delicious. When I had it, it was still hot. It was really good. The pastry shop made some old school French pastries. If you are looking for some traditional French pastries, this place is for you.

Best baguette in Montreal! Homemade products are so delicious and earthy and you just know it's made with love!

Ive never been this disappointed in a cake in my life. 50$ for this thing. It was so disgusting, we couldn’t even eat it for the birthday. There was so much liquid, the cake looked like a soup. The video you see is about half of the total liquid that was dumped on the cake. The amount of rhum in there was sickening, taking a straight shot would taste less of rhum than this cake. Do people even follow a recipe?

I heard about this pastry shop and made a special trip. I would not mind if I had a place like this near my home because it looks like pastries and bread are made in-house and the staff seems to be very involved in the operation. Sometimes you want a pastry filled with cream. But I doubt I’ll make another special trip here. Pastries looked ok, but a bit too simple for my taste.

Yelp
Lovely place to go and both the staff and the boss are really sweet I did an internship with them back while in high school in 2010 with the program for students who have difficulty at school and/or TDHD and I've been welcomed with open arms and it was awesome working there plus their bakeries are home made from scratch. That's simply an awesome place to go and I personally recommend the Fromagine that is my favorite ;)

Yelp
This is a cute little bakery far too east for regular visits but just down the street from my father's ophthalmologist. I'll usually go with him to his appointments so we discovered this spot a few visits ago. I looked it up and since there seemed to be good reviews we decided to stop in. Since then, we've picked up whole cakes, pies, pastries, breads, and sandwiches (not all at once, mind you). They excel at the classical patisseries and cakes - the chocolate pistachio cake was absolutely incredible! Everything was relatively good though, and I love a cheeky almond croissant plump with thick almond filling for breakfast. Definitely make a visit if you're in the area - maybe even if you're not!

Yelp
A coworker recommended this French bakery to me months ago and now I'm hooked on their few selections of sweets. Although it's way out of my daily commute, I always drive here not thinking twice about the distance. I come here particularly for their baba au rums. In my books, they take the crown for making the best of the best babas. I'm so thankful they're far from where I live because honestly I can eat at least one of those every day. The other sweets I'm hooked on are the eclairs, the mille feuilles, rum balls and madeleines. I prefer their eclairs with the cream filling but family disagrees saying the custard is better. Yours to find out. I was told their breads and cakes are amazing too but haven't tried yet. For sure the time will come for these and their other wide selection choices. I highly recommend you try this place, truly a gem and been around for 65 years for a good reason or two. Enjoy!

Yelp
Walking into the bakery you are overwhelmed with the amount of baked goods displayed. They have a variety of goodies for your sweet tooth like cookies, Italian and French pastries, cakes, breads and croissants. They also have charcuterie on sale for your deli needs. I walked out of there with a few Tortiere (meat pie) they're made in house and there delicious, the shell is light and flaky and the filling is delicious and not over powering. I'm looking forward to my next visit very soon!
