The 15 Best Desserts In LA

"This dessert shop in a Lomita strip mall specializes in French pastries made with Japanese twists, and we've yet to encounter one that hasn't left us wobbly in the knees. True to the shop's name, the delicate pastries packed into their single display case usually involve various whipped mousses, creams, and custards, often layered with seasonal fruits and lighter-than-air sponge cake. Whole cakes and cheesecakes are available, but we love that most of Chantilly's treats are individually sized, including their signature black sesame cream puff that regulars order by the dozen. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking is kind of awkward to get into. The pecan pie bites are fantastic. They're not sweet at all compared to typical ones, which are always too sweet. They were a little dry, though. The chocolate tart was excellent - nice crispy ball thing on top, and not too sweet. The fruit tart was okay - nothing special. Overall, a little expensive, but nice as a gift or treat.

Google
This is one of my favorite pastry’s in LA. It has very beautiful deserts and bakeries. I have been here more than 5 times and their service is so nice and patient. Highly recommend Rochelle and grapefruit gelee (if you like the very original taste of grapefruit ).

Google
One of those places that you want to gatekeep but also want them to have a thriving business. Their pastries are made with the highest quality and served with the highest care. Everyone comes for the wonderful black sesame choux à la crème and it is worth the visit. Be warned they do run out very quickly due to the small batches they make and the popularity of it; the limited batches made confirms the effort that is put into each. I would say the black sesame eclair is a wonderful alternative or even preferred if you like everything about the choux pastry version but also chocolate. The little cakes are beautiful and delicious as well.

Wisteria Village

Google
This is a magnificent slice of a Japanese Patisserie, born from the French art of pastry making with a Japanese twist. You will find many of these types of pastry stores in Japan so consider us lucky to have a quality store like this in LA. The pastries and cookies, however, are no match for the level of service and respect the workers of this store have for their patrons and product alike. Meticulous attention to detail and the whole experience of enjoying their pastries. Keep up the great work Chantilly!!

I don't know why it took me so long to try this incredible Japanese bakery, but so glad we did! Tucked in a small shopping center in Lomita, they are open for takeout only. They pride themselves on the freshness of their fare, even to the point to ask each customer whether they will be driving more than 30 minutes, and offering to put the order on ice. The cream puffs are made fresh to order in three delicious flavors: vanilla Chantilly cream, chocolate, and black sesame (amazing!). The choux pastry is light and crisp. Making a matcha version seems like a natural variation, and I'll have to ask about that next time I'm in. We also tried the chestnut coffee roll cake, the matcha layer cake, the chocolate ganache tart, and white chocolate-dipped matcha sables. All of which I would purchase again! They have excellent flavor with just the right amount of sweetness. You really can't go wrong, and next time I'm asked to bring dessert to a group dinner, I'm stopping at Chantilly first!

All the cakes are mouthwatering. They are not so sweet. You will not feel overwhelmed by sugar. There are two problems with this store: the first one is they do not accept card payments below 10 dollar; the second one, cakes finish early. Chantilly cheese cake is my favorite.

Nancy Hsu

Google
Our all time favorite pastry shop in LA since it opened about 13 years ago. Consistent quality and taste. I fell in love with Chantilly when I tasted the fruit tart and strawberry shortcake 12 years ago. The strawberry slices on top of the cake and between the layers are always fresh (whereas other shops' are overripe or spoiled, even in high end restaurants). The whip cream and custard used in the cakes were always fresh, light and not too sweet, just enough to highlight the freshness of the key ingredients. Their cream puffs (Sesame cream) are the excellent. Make sure you try the seasonal cakes. Kids who don't like grapefruit will love the grapefruit jelly offered only in summer.

Google
This place is absolutely amazing. The most delicious desserts, and pastries I’ve ever had especially the black sesame ones.

Seenu N.

Yelp
One of the best bakeries for chocolate chip and orange cookies. The texture, sweetness and size of the cookies is just perfect. Also, the walnut tarts are a must try! I wish they had pricing available for bigger cookie and tart packages!!

Yelp
This is the best Japanese patisserie in the South Bay, possibly in all of LA! And certainly one of the best dessert shops I've come across here in LA. Every single item is top notch! You just can't go wrong. If I had to pick my all time favorites, I'd say it's the cream puffs (black sesame!) and the Mont Blanc that are my absolute favorites. Their cookies are also phenomenal and I particularly love the Florentines. If you've never tried this place, GO!!!

Yelp
I love the pastries at this French Japanese pastry shop located in a small simple plaza in Lomita. I have been here so many times over the years and I've tried many of their items and none have been a miss. I really enjoy their sesame creme puff but anything they offer is delicious. Is it pricey? Yes Are the portions small? Yes. This is a Japanese bakery. They are not going to serve jumbo sizes Is it with it? Absolutely I know there is a No Photos sign so I hope i don't get banned lol

Yelp
Dessert delights and only in the South Bay. A quaint place with very few seats for a quick intimate tasteful snack adventure. Serving only some few delicious tidbits which some are readily unavailable due to high demand. Staff are pleasantly helpful over their counter. Parking space is a challenge to find unless you have a disability placard.

Yelp
Wonderful place with rare treats and kind, efficient staff. I wish it was clearer how to order ahead for the holidays.

Yelp
Come here for the black sesame cream puff! In a strip mall, parking is limited but their black sesame cream puff is to die for. The flavor of black sesame is strong and the cream puff was crisp. I would have bought more to bring home if I had brought my cooler. This place should definitely be on your list of places to visit. I also tried the chocolate cream puff but the black sesame is much more memorable.

Yelp
Best strawberry vanilla cake ever. It was moist, not too sweet, and plenty of strawberries. We purchased ten different desserts and everything was delicious. Wonderfully milky cheesecakes. Chocolate cake that had balanced flavors and a light crumb. Raspberry mousse had the tartness you'd expect paired with chocolate to tone it out. A must try if you're in the area.

Yelp
Must visit this bakery/ cafe. Fun experience ordering different pasteries to share. Recommend bringing your LA visiting friends.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place out for awhile based on the beautiful pictures over Yelp and finally got the chance! Albeit, we did get a bunch of pastries to-go so they weren't perfectly fresh but they were eaten a couple hours later. They package the baked goods very well with ice and instructions to eat them soon after which I really appreciated. We got an assortment of things but the favorites were the the Le Matcha and Mousse Mango. The le matcha was fluffy and herbal, almost cloud like. I was very exited for the black sesame cream puff, however it definitely wasn't as fresh to go. Ours was soggy and one of my least favorite- but I can't hold that against them! I will just have to go back to try one fresh. I also didn't love the Mont Blanc which had an almost gritty texture. All the desserts here were not too sweet which I think many people appreciate and all very light and delicate. Would definitely recommend for an older group as opposed to kids who usually want more sweet desserts.

Yelp
Before SomiSomi made black sesame a trendy flavor on IG, there were the black sesame cream puffs from Patisserie Chantilly, made famous by a shout-out from Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold. Before that, black sesame wasn't considered a cool dessert flavor. How could it be cool when black sesame was a favorite dessert flavor from my parents' generation. (I truly appreciate these traditional desserts now, but when I was a kid, I just wanted to be like my American friends and eat cake, pie, and ice cream for dessert.) The French-inspired Japanese pastries here all look amazing, and unlike American desserts, they are light, delicate, and not too sweet. But what stands out the most is how earnestly the clerk tried to convince me to purchase little dry ice packs to keep the cream puffs at the perfect temperature. Fortunately, the ice packs are quite affordable, one 36 cent ice pack for every 30 minutes of driving. I must not look too convinced because she even pulled out a one-page document on the science behind it. It wasn't that I didn't believe her, the cream puffs and cake slices all looked so good I wasn't sure they would last 10 minutes in the car. But as soon as she pulled out that one-page document, I straightened up and paid attention as if I were in a final exam review session. The instincts from all my years of test-taking suddenly kicked in...if a professor takes the time to draw a complex diagram on the board, it is important and will probably be on the test. In the end, all that extra effort to make sure I understood the importance of temperature meant they cared about the product and, most importantly, the customer's enjoyment. It felt like my mother reminding me to wear a jacket before I went out, and now that I am on my own in this cold world, I really appreciate my mother's reminders. Likewise, when I bite into the black sesame cream puff with its perfect combination of light, airy, and crunchy textures, even the next day, I truly appreciate their artistry and attention to detail.

Yelp
Highly recommend this bakery. It's so good. The pastries are so light and not so sweet, which I love. The decorations are beautiful. The service is wonderful. The lady was so sweet to offer little ice pack as she asked if I was traveling far, so the pantries could keep cool. Come check this place out and support small businesses.

Yelp
This was one of my oldest bookmarks (added sometime in 2013), and I finally removed it this year now that I made a visit! You can find this French-Japanese inspired bakery in a plaza on the corner of Lomita Boulevard and Pennsylvania Ave. Parking is a little tight if you're driving an SUV, and spots are limited. They are open Tuesday to Saturday 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. I came mid-afternoon, and they were unfortunately already out of their famous cream puffs. But they still had a decent amount of cakes and cookies left. Chantilly Fromage - Cheesecake with a honey graham cracker crust. It's not spongy like the cakes at Uncle Tetsu, and it's not as dense compared to the ones over at The Cheesecake Factory. The texture was light, creamy, and almost fluffy. Also not as sweet. Well made, but I personally prefer a thicker crust. I could also do without the blueberry on top because it didn't taste fresh. Chocolate Amour - Swiss chocolate cream and chocolate chiffon multi-layered cake. Didn't like the fruits on this one as well. But the cake itself was enjoyable; also on the light side, yet still decadent. Lemon Madeleines - Shell-shaped cookies with a texture that's similar to a cake. Pairs really well with a cup of coffee or tea! Very buttery, zesty, and crumbly. Will have to come back to try their choux aux sésames. Hopefully it won't take me another ten years to make another visit!

Yelp
More like 4.5 out of 5 but I'm going to go ahead and round up to 5 because good patisseries are extremely rare finds. Patisserie Chantilly has been on my bookmark list forever and a couple of recent impromptu trips to South Bay allowed me to try a variety of offerings. It's in a tiny parking lot in Lomita. Coming through the side entrance of the parking lot on Pennsylvania Avenue is a little bit easier for those with larger cars as there are more spots and better access rather than parking in the busy front of the establishment. It's also best to arrive early so you have a bigger selection of pastries to choose from (I came close to closing on my first visit and only Mont Blancs were available). All the desserts are delightful, aesthetically pleasing and creative in approach, especially those mixing in asian flavors such as black sesame. So far I have tried: Mont Blanc 5/5 This dessert is a chestnut swirl enveloping a chantilly cream and a chestnut. It's quite decadent, without being too sweet and is a delight to eat especially if you're a lover of chestnuts. Choux aux Sesame 4/5 I love black sesame - and I was pretty psyched to try this dessert. While a strong effort - I like other reviewers would prefer a stronger tasting black sesame flavor rather than a lighter tasting black sesame flavor. The consistency of the choux, the lightness of the sesame cream studded with whole black sesames provided a nice contrast. Mont Fraise 4.5/5 This was strawberry mousse, enveloping strawberries and cream over a tart. It was a bit difficult to cut into the tart and the strawberry mousse and cream when eaten alone is underwhelming, but amazing when eaten together with the tart. Presentation wise it's extremely adorable. Othello 5/5 This is a layered cake combination of white and dark chocolates with sesame. This will be a hit with any lover of chocolate as the chocolate was rich and decadent without being overly sweet. The sesame is lightly flavored here in the darkest layers of the cake and elevates the chocolate flavor ever so slightly. Kir Royale 5/5 Out of all the desserts we tried, this had the strongest flavor of the bunch with a fruity cassis layer over a champagne mouse layer. It was a delightfully tart but not overly so - almost like a fruity mimosa in desert form. It was interesting to see how the mousse was able to capture the slight bite of champagne. Maple Madeleines 3/5 The flavor of these were on point albeit somewhat grainy texture wise? Out of all the desserts I tried this was the only let down. Coffee drinks are on point here as well and accompany the desserts well. Medium bodied - not acidic and strong. The desserts here are rather spendy, but the flavors, variety and execution of desserts are definitely a great experience and will wow many for special occasions or celebrations. If you're looking for a place to grab some eye catching and refined desserts, give Patisserie Chantilly a try!

Yelp
I was invited to a dinner party and wanted to bring something local and memorable! Came across this bakery because of the reviews and bought 1 of every pastry left. Pleased to say we were not disappointed! I loved their raspberry cheesecake, pecan pie, & their coffee cake mouse! You're paying premium prices, but the pastries are great! I Also bought their hot Cocoa, which was a small cup for $5, but again, the taste was really good. Overall, this is a solid dessert spot in south bay!

Yelp
My wife was gifted with a couple pastries. COFFEE CAKE: -- tastes of booze soaked cake like Grand Marnier maybe -- chestnuts soaked in booze? -- nice whipped cream -- I love coffee anything BERRY CAKE w/CHOCOLATE CRUST: -- Not something I would order (not a cake dude, more into pies or cheesecake) but this tastes nice and I like berries All in all, pretty nice. But just not a cake dude so could not get fully into them.

Yelp
Delicious well put together dessserts and very tasty as well. Un presuming location with fabulous desserts. Great staff as well.

Yelp
French Japanese bakeries are simply the business. They were delicious back then, they're still delicious now. Sure, these portion controlled cakes and cream puffs might cost a pretty penny, but every bite is pure bliss. Not everything is overly sweet which I appreciate. But maybe let's just go down the list: Cream puffs: try them, sesame, chocolate, cream, try them all! It's nice and flakey and light enough to boot. Cheesecake: the regular one is a fluffy and sweet, no nonsense japanese cheesecake. That's all there is to it. The blueberry variation has a nice sweet and tart blueberry flavor throughout which I enjoyed more. Their other pastries and cakes are all worth a try and I definitely need to come back here more often but their hours aren't always ideal, they open a little late and close a little early, but that makes the trip all the more meaningful right?
google avatar

Aileen H.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 10 stars! It's French desserts combined with Japanese attention to detail. Together, their creations are elegant, modern, beautiful, innovative and delicious. Their cakes are so delicate and fine. I had the Mont Blanc (chestnut mousse cake) , Le Matcha (green tea cake) , Othello (mocha black sesame cake )and Chantilly Fromage (cheese cake). All of them were delicious and not overly sweet. The Othello is a blend of black and white chocolate cake with the slightest hint of black sesame. The balance of flavors is superb. Their cakes are not rich, heavy and they don't leave you with a sick, stuffed feeling afterwards. Instead, the experience feels fine and luxurious. Their desserts make me what to savor every spoonful and the entire dessert eating journey is elevated. I love, love, love this place ! The seating inside is limited. They do sell coffee. The store is located in an unassuming small shopping plaza.
google avatar

Lorraine R.

Yelp
You can close your eyes and point to anything in their pastry case and you'll always get something delicious. The quality in their bakes are always consistent, as with their attention to detail even when packaging up your pastries. My absolute favorite is their seasonal pommier, but I will always come back for their classics: sesame choux pastry, mont blanc, gateau marron. ilu patisserie chantilly
google avatar

Logan N.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this bakery. I can keep eating because it's not too sweet. Today I picked up the Mother Day's special and I hope they keep it on the menu. It's like a Mont Blanc but not. The cream is spiked with alcohol and has pieces of chest nuts. Then there's a layer of an eggy chestnut paste that I just love.
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
Omg I was recommended to come try this shop if I was ever in the South Bay and it did not dissapoint. This is a Japanese bakery that has delicious and not too sweet treats. I bought as much as I can and they were all great in their own way. I'm actually a lil dissapointed that I couldn't try their cream puff because it was all sold out by the time I got there. I'll get them another time.
google avatar

Dayla C.

Yelp
Delicious pastry shop! We've tried many different cakes and cookies. Nothing is overly sweet. A favorite place to pick up treats for a dinner part or birthday.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
This is by far my favorite dessert place in the area. In the summertime, they have the most fraise which is basically a strawberry cloud with a crisp tart. The fruit tart, chocolate tart, Le matcha are probably our favorites though I don't think you can go wrong at Patisserie Chantilly. Items tend to run out by the early to mid afternoon, so aim to come earlier if you have specific items you want to try.
google avatar

Cindy Y.

Yelp
Yum! I knew this place was a local favorite esp in the Japanese community and I finally came to try it out. I got the sesame othello cake and it tasted super fresh and a nice amount of cream. Pricing is not bad for the quality you get a slice would range from $4-$8. They imitate the Japanese service style where they ask you how long your ride back home is so they can put ice packs in.
google avatar

Louis L.

Yelp
Came here to get some nice japanese desserts and pastries. Ordered their Mont Blanc, followed by their famous Zen cheesecake, and also their fresh baked Florentins. The girl who helped us (the mixed young girl) was very friendly and she also helped us to carefully pack the ice packs inside the box so our cakes will stay fresh during our drive home. The flavor of the cakes, the sweetness, and the texture were outstanding. Just the right amount of sweetness and you can actually taste the freshness of the chestnuts from the Mont Blanc, and the texture of the cheesecake from the Zen. Can't go wrong with any other pastries from here. Definitely be back.
google avatar

La La L.

Yelp
yummy but you will definitely pay for it. the service is super friendly. i came here on christmas and they still served us well! the location is super convenient, tons of parking. however, there's no seating area so it's definitely a to-go spot.
google avatar

Ha N.

Yelp
Had this place bookmarked for years. Finally in the area to try the famous cream puffs. Since my drive is about an hour, they recommend purchasing some ice packs. A few more cents but did keep the desserts nice and cold. Sesame cream puffs are really good. Not that sweet and I love how nutty the sesame cream is and how crunchy the puff shells still are. Good portion too! Mont Blanc is a little too sweet for me. Strawberry sponge cake is good, soft, moist and delightful. All in all a good bakery. A little on the pricy side.
google avatar

Yumi K.

Yelp
The quality and beautiful craftsmanship of each cake is worth the money. We are fan of grapefruit jelly cup and hoping they will make it available year round.
google avatar

Kathryn T.

Yelp
There are bakeries and then there's Chantilly. Head and shoulders above anything in the South Bay, possibly Los Angeles. Their cakes and pasteries are an incredible mix of Japanese and French inspired creations. The service is like no other you will get other than in Japan. Always a literal treat to go. Beyond 5 stars!

Eliana Z.

Yelp
Hands-down, the best pastries I've ever had everything here is delicious. Nothing will disappoint. My top favorites are the chocolate tart and the black sesame cake
google avatar

Ted A.

Yelp
TL;DR: Black Sesame Cream Puff. Chantilly is a nice little Japanese bakery located in a strip mall. It can be hard to enter the entrance on Lomita Blvd, so you can turn north onto Pennsylvania and enter the lot from the back. They have a wide selection of cakes and dessert items which look great and taste better. It's a tiny place, so there is sometimes a line, but the staff are very helpful and friendly. They occasionally sell out of things, so go earlier in the day if you have your heart set on a particular thing. My favorite item is the cream puff. You can get a few different flavors, but the best option by far is the black sesame. Something about the combination of sweet cream and earthy flavor of sesame works really well. Each one is $3.75, but don't judge the price until you've tried it!
google avatar

Victor M.

Yelp
With all the positive reviews, I had to try Pâtisserie Chantilly to satisfy my constant sweet tooth. I wanted to try their cream puffs (choux) which appear to be their specialty pastry with different flavor cream options, but they were sold out and were in the process of making more. I didn't want to wait 20-30 minutes so I settled for a slice of strawberry gâteau and Mont Blanc. Both looked moist and absolutely lovely. The strawberry gâteau was the best of the two. It took on the sweetness from the strawberry jam and cream to give it a very pleasant taste. Unfortunately, I personally did not like the Mont Blanc. It is a nicely decorated chestnut chantilly cream (mousse) in a chestnut swirl, but it was not as flavorful as I would have liked. I also thought both were a bit overpriced at $4.75-$5.00 each. They do provide a nice looking box and ice pack (option) if you weren't able to put it in the refrigerator within an hour or so. If you were having a tea service and wanted to serve dainty less sweet desserts, these would probably fit the bill nicely. If you are looking for a hearty tasty dessert, this place may fall short of your expectations. I would consider Viktor Benês which may be much sweeter, but they are much larger in size. Hopefully their specialty choux pastries are much better.

A M.

Yelp
This is now the place I get my birthday and Christmas cakes and the occasional sweets. I am in love with their chocolate tarts. They are a bit pricey but that hasn't stopped me yet. I just can't stop. It's so good. They run out of cakes quickly sometimes cause there are people out there that ask for almost three whole inventory and from my experience, you can't ask them to hold the individual small cakes. So you should go there few hours before they close. When you order, if there's a certain cake you're looking for I would ask and sometimes there might be more just waiting to be placed behind the glass! The clerks are very nice here usually but it feels a bit understaffed sometimes, so I would eat at home.

Yelp
I accidentally stumble upon this cute little shop year ago before pandemic and the desserts here blew my mind! I've been coming here for many years now and am a big fan of their dessert even post pandemic. Some of my favorites here are: Othello, a unique and distinct black sesame flavor, light, flavorful and oh so delicate is one of my favorite. Kir royale is delightful with fruity champagne you can taste. Passion fruit mousse is so refreshing with a tang. Rouge raspberry mousse has enough sweet and tartness and pair well with the dark chocolate mousse. My partner loves the Chocolate Amour that is wonderful for a chocolate lover! Be sure to get the unique Choux aux Black Sesame as well. Their black sesame puffs were written up and well acknowledge in so many food articles. And it truly is one of the most amazing black sesame puff. If you think Beard papa puff is da bomb, you don't know what you're missing until you had one of these here at Patisserie Chantilly! The only down side is the cafe no longer allow indoor dining post pandemic. I was so bummed to find out they remove the dining services. It is now a pure take-out only store. Though, this is still one of my favorite little gem whenever I'm in town that I trek to. I just wish they would allow indoor dining again soon. It's currently turning me away from sitting down and enjoying their wonderful dessert with a cup of mocha at the cafe. PLEASE reconsider bringing back the indoor dining as I really enjoy taking family and friends here.

Yelp
I was a bit disappointed with most of the sweets I tried from Patisserie Chantlilly. This bakery is simple, clean, and cute. I love the simple decor and their beautiful desserts. They all taste good, but not good enough for the price. I really liked that the cakes were not overly sweet, but there was no wow factor to justify $5-6 a piece. I took off a star because I don't think it's worth it. However, I do believe that their cakes are good not great. I do recommend the Choux Aux Sesames ($3.50), which is a black sesame cream puff. The puff has a lovely flavor and crispy edges while not being overly sweet. Again, on the pricier side, but it was a generous sized puff. I will be back if I'm in the area because I missed trying some cakes that were highly recommended by a fellow Yelp friend - Zen, Gateau Fraise, and Grapefruit Gelee.

Yelp
LOCATION: This bakery is located in a small strip mall, and you can easily spot out the bakery with its bright green logo PARKING: free, small lot (note: there's usually a small line outside during weekends) WHAT WE ORDERED: (1) Black Sesame Cream Puffs ($3.75 ea; $18.75 for 6): Known for their black sesame concoctions, Patisserie Chantilly bakes their pâte a choux (cream puff shells) with love and sesame. Black sesame cream is freshly piped after each order. Overall, the cream puff offers the perfect texture, with its fluffy shell and robust sesame filling. While the prices are steeper than other bakeries, I find that the quality is higher. Their black sesame filling boasts a strong sesame flavor, which is uncommon in the many times that I've eaten black-sesame desserts elsewhere. MAIN TAKEAWAY: I was flabbergasted that I didn't discover this place sooner! If you're a black sesame fanatic like me, you'll definitely enjoy their sweet offerings. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Joanne S.

Yelp
Super nice employees! It was my first time here and they recommended their cream puffs and strawberry cakes! I got the sesame and custard which were both good, but sesame stole the show! They recommended me to get an ice pack with the desserts which was an additional 25 cents! If you want to order ahead you can do it the day before. They don't take same day reservations. I can here on a weekday late afternoon and they had everything available!
google avatar

Irene W.

Yelp
Made a last-minute stop to pick up an assortment of pastries for a gathering and thank goodness I came early. Turns out, their whole cakes require advance notice and there was a ton of people coming in to pick up their orders so better to reserve a week in advance for major holidays. Parking: tiny plaza parking but the spots in front of the shop fill and empty quickly as customers come in and out constantly. Service: overall great service. I definitely see how some people are annoyed because they're ignored but it seems like the vibe here is to speak up and signal to them that you're ready to order instead of waiting for them to check on you. Food: got the mont blanc, sesame cheesecake(!!), othello, le matcha. gateau fraise and some other goodies I forgot the names of and forgot to take a picture! Guess that means I gotta go again soon hehe. Anyways, all the items were a hit, the sesame cheesecake doesn't look super appetizing at first but hearing it was made with sesame made everyone's ears perk up. The mont blanc had a great chestnut flavor come through and wasn't too sweet even though there's a lot of cream inside. Will definitely need to try their black sesame cream puff next! This place is worth a 30-40 minute drive, especially if you're trying to impress haha the pastries are delicate but leave a lasting impression. Try to come with some patience as they are quite busy but the pastries are worth it.

Yelp
I've been a customer of this cute little shop for many years. I tend to like the Japanese bakeries and Vietnamese bakeries out of all the French-Asian bakeries (they are the OGs after all). Chantilly is the best of the Japanese bakeries with Nagomi being second. It's a small shop so most customers buy take out. You'll need to call a few days ahead for cake orders.

Yelp
Presentation is everything in the bakery world. When you're a French inspired bakery, even more so. Think fancy afternoon tea cakes with a lift of the pinkie finger. Location: In a small shopping strip mall on Lomita Blvd with a private parking lot, but it is small. What I Got: The black sesame cream puff appealed to me the most. There really was a black sesame taste to it, although I would have preferred a stronger taste to it. Maybe it's just me. Anyways, i was kind of disappointed in the fact that even though the cream puff wasn't immediately apparent in the bakery case and I had to ask for it. the puff pastry hold the cream was hard. As in a rock because it's been sitting out most of the day. Hmmm...Not what I was expecting. The cream filling was awesome otherwise. Even though the pricing was a bit higher than I was comfortable with, I thought at least the shell would be softer, but nope. Summary: I have to say that the shop was cute looking and the offerings in the bakery case were beautifully laid out and perfect looking. As i said, presentation is everything, however, the offerings were on the small side and pricey for what you get. Service was personable and social distancing was observed along with the offering of hand sanitizer exhibited. However, the cream puff just didn't meet my expectations as I was expecting a softer shell pastry and I got something else instead. Oh, well.... would I come back? Maybe, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Someday, I guess...Happy eating.

Yelp
Went to their shop as they are one of the top rated pastry in my area as i was looking for a birthday cake. Unfortunately they don't sell the whole cake as it needs to be preordered. I ended up buying the sliced cakes which is quite ok.

Yelp
Tried the Gateau Fraise $4.75, Tarte aux Fruits $4.75, and Pecan Pies ($8.25 for 6 mini's). All were lovely, fresh and delicious. The prices are a bit high, but everything was fresh and delicious. Recommend going early, as they will sell out closer to closing. Great about respecting the Covid restrictions. And the ladies here are very polite and welcoming.

Yelp
My friend and I came within the last hour so the cream puffs were all sold out unfortunately. Luckily there were still other desserts left. She got the marron gateau and i got the mont blanc. You can always tell when a dessert place is good when you feel satisfied after one dessert. Had I not practiced some self restraint, I would have had leftovers. Both items were very delicious and sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet in an American sense. We also ordered some things to go and the lady working in the front was so nice and sweet. She offered to put our items in the fridge while we ate to which we declined so instead she gave us little mini ice packs to keep our desserts chilled The space is very small but I think it would be a very cute place to get dessert with another friend or partner. Overall it was a nice quaint experience and I would stop by again if I was ever in town.

Yelp
4/24/21 Back again! Love love love this place! I don't think I'll ever get sick of this place ever. Ever! Ordered too many cake slices as usual and cookies too! - Mont Fraise (Seasonal) - Zen - Kir Royale - Othello - Chateau Chantilly (New Fave!) - Butter Sable - Cocoa Sable @sarahskyisthelimit

Yelp
The desserts here are incredible. They are what the cakes in Asian bakeries like 85 Degrees and Paris Baguette aspire to be when they grow up. Most sponge cakes are dry from these kinds of bakeries, but the cake here was perfectly moist and soaked with amazing flavors like brandy or Grand Marnier. The Othello was my favorite cake - black sesame and chocolate are ideal flavor friends the same way peanut butter complements chocolate. The cream and black sesame cream puff had the perfect crunch from the craquelin topping, with a generous amounts of fluffy pastry. My only regret is not ordering one of everything because everything was delicious!

Yelp
Best cream puffs in LA. You can pick vanilla, black sesame or chocolate; my advice is to eat them fresh and as soon as you can for the best texture. Their cakes are delicious too! I love le matcha, tart aux fruits and choux au chocolat. They only allow 3 customers at a time inside and socially distanced. Line moves quickly and the staff is very friendly. Just a heads up- this place is popular so they can sometimes run out by the afternoon. You can call 24h in advance to place an order to pick up the following day.

Yelp
This place is good not great. We ordered the strawberry cake, chocolate tart, and fruit tart. 3 small pastries at over $5 apiece makes me expect greatness. The strawberry cake didn't have much flavor. The fruit tart had a good amount of fruit on it and had a good crust. The chocolate tart was the best item-- it was rich and very good. However, for the taste and size, I would say they were overpriced. The ladies behind the counter were helpful and the shop was cleaned.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite cake shop in South Bay~ Although price of one cake is $5 each, the quality is top knotch. BF and I came here around 03:45 PM, came at the perfect timing since they only had 3 types of cake selections left! Highly recommend coming here early or ordering online ahead of time for more cake selections. We got the Blanc Amor and Zen. The Blanc Amor was one of the best Japanese cakes I've ever had, the sponge was so light with not too sweet white chocolate cream and fruity orange marmalade. Zen was also amazing, with not too rich cheesecake base with deep black sesame flavor. This is my go-to spot for Japanese cakes, would love to try the cream puffs here since I've heard alot of good things about them~

Yelp
Needed to pick up some dessert for a small gathering and this spot came up while in Torrance. A small place with pick up only when I visited. When you walk in you're greeted with a case full of assorted pastries, tarts & cakes. First time here so I had a couple of questions and let my server know what size box (they ask) as I was going to get about 8 pieces. I selected the Tarte Chocolat for starters and was taking some seconds to decide on the next selection. While I'm contemplating, another customer walks in and is acknowledged and then my server leaves me and my box and goes to grab a bag (apparently his order) and proceeds to take his payment. No "excuse me", apology, etc," for me -just leaves me standing there and starts with another customer-It was a "What just happened?!"moment....guess there's a first time for everything as this was a first! Luckily another lady took over (again no apology and continued as if nothing happened) & finished my order and recovered a bit by offering an ice pack given it was a very hot day and these are delicate pastries. (I bought an ice pack). She also suggested the Chou Au Sesame which is one of the most popular and unique pastries. Clear these are meticulously created goods that demand a higher price and are well worth it. You can see the Artisans in the back through the swinging door windows moving quickly and working it. Our favorites were the Tarte Chocolat and Gateaux fraise (perfect strawberry summer cake!) Chocolat Amour was also a chocolate lover's delight. Chantilly Fromage (Cheesecake) was very good. The Choux Sesame and Montblanc were definitely unique and some to try but weren't our favorites. The service experience just might make you feel like you're in the Twilight Zone or part of a Seinfeld episode. That said, solid Patisserie offering unique and carefully crafted desserts.
