16 Top Restaurants for Affordable Latin American Food in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Che Churro is the ideal place for a break from the cold. This little Argentine spot offers excellent churros and hot chocolate, as well as Argentine and Colombian empanadas. Products are sold individually or by the dozen — try the plain churros dusted in cinnamon sugar, or get loco with dulce de leche or chocolate." - Dahlia Snaiderman

Google
This is one of my top three spot for churros! Everything was good, we always order a dozen. My only complaint this time is that the guava churros weren’t as fresh as the dulce de leche and the custard ones.

Google
Super authentic Latin shop! I was looking for some legit Churros for Cinco de Mayo and came across Che Churro. They have all kinds of groceries items to make your own goodies at home but I was happy to order up some delicious Churros and Empanadas! They were all so good!! We ordered 12 chirros, 3 or each flavourful I also ordered the chicken and cranberry and beef and onion empanadas, soo good!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some legit Spanish goodies! Great stuff, super helpful and super yummy food!!

I would go out of my way simply to have a bite of these churros!!!! I’ve tried a few churros but this place sells the BEST ones. SO satisfyingly crunchy on the outside while the dough on the inside is soft and bouncy. My go-to flavour is the dulce de leche one; so creamy and caramelly! Please pay them a visit, you won’t regret the churros!

The churros were absolutely fantastic!!! We grabbed the dulce de leche, lemon, and nutella, and all were tremendous. The service was also lovely; we were greeted very warmly and treated great. Will absolutely return here next chance I get!

I wobbled into Patisserie Che Churro needing some sugar, carbohydrates, caffeine, and warmth. A kind and patient Argentinian genteman was there whose genuine good manners and welcoming kindness cheered me instantly. (Plus, he had Mafalda on his apron!) Another patron was there who encouraged me to try their tamales, which are not like Mexican tamales, so of course I needed to buy three. I had planned to scurry away with an empanada but remained to munch it with a short coffee and listen to some other clients discussing their futures. When i finally paid and left, I walked out with a warm belly, three tamales, and a box of Spanish polvorones. I could not recommend this shop more; i hope he remains in business for many years to come. Thank you Patisserie Che Churro!

Google
The best Churros in Montreal! Very nice friendly staff Few small tables and chairs to sit and have a couple of fresh, golden churros and cafe.

As someone that is born and raised in Argentina, I’m well trained to know what truly authentic taste of Argentinian food tastes like. Sadly, Chechuro missed the mark on quality and authentic taste. I ordered a few items via Uber Eats, to proudly celebrate the winning of Argentina in the Copa America. I had ordered two empanadas(1 of chicken and 1 of ham & cheese) The chicken empanada was superb! Tasty, well seasoned, not spicy and lovely texture. The ham and cheese one was a total failure. The ham was incredibly salty, had an artificial smoke aftertaste and there were no traces of cheese to be found. None! Simply an only an overwhelming amount of ham. I had also requested for some chimichurri, that was missing in my order. Last but not least.. The chocolate alfajor was terrible. Far from being fresh, tasty and not at all authentic. It had a very noticeable stale and old taste with a very dry and mealy texture. I’m still looking for any traces of dulce de leche as any traditional Argentinian alfajor should have. I’m debating whether to give them a second chance as 2 out of the 3 items were very unpalatable and unpleasant. I’ll give it some thought.

Google
This place definitely ranks in my top lost for churros. What i like about this place is the dough is thin and it's a little more crispy than other places. Mainly the filling is all the way through. Every bite you get an even filling which is consistent and pleasant. Bad side is you have to eat it pretty much on the spot. If you wait for an hour it tastes very different. Even though it's filled on the spot it isn't fried then and there. So depending on when you show up you could get some that have been fried earlier. It's more cold and that part isn't the freshest but it's definitely good if you eat it live. If you're planning on buying 6 or 12 and having it later in the day or at worst the next day, forget about it you're in for a surprise. What makes this place worth it is the price. It is absolutely affordable so it's worth the drive. If it was more fresh I would definitely give this place 5 stars. As for the empanadas, the chicken is amazing!!!! It's chunks of chicken and it's filled and tasty. The beef is ground beef and is nothing special TBH. So go for the chicken empanadas and have your churros on the spot and you won't be disappointed. As for the rest, well you have my review.

Yelp
This place is as authentic as it gets. Churros made to perfection, crispy on the outside! Don't bother asking how they get the filling (chocolate or dulce leche) how ever they do it, it's awesome. Service was very pleasant and friendly. I hesitated to try the new salty flavored churros. Didn't regret it one bit they were both amazing. The salsa flavor or the Parmesan were both equally good.

Yelp
This review isn't so much for the food than the customer service. My 12 year son wanted to purchase churros with his own money. He only had his debit card on him, he asked for two churros and the man (short balding) behind the counter insisted on the $5.00 Interac minimum....I informed him the minimum purchase goes against local regulations, he then replied he also had the right not to serve us....I was shocked. We lived in NDG for 6 years and always frequented this shop, the lady who usually works the cash was always friendly and patient. Needless to say my son walked out empty handed thanks to the man behind the counter. I vowed never to patronize this business again.

Yelp
These guys have the best churros in town. They are amazing and the staff is very friendly Good price too 12 filled churros for 16.50$ you cant go wrong with that. They also have more latin food like many different empanadas like beef, spicy beef, corn, tuna and many many more.

Yelp
Finally got to try this place today!! They serve crunchy churros which is odd since I'm used to soft churros but it was delicious -- mostly because of the amazing dulce de leche in them also delicious are their empanadas. Got 2 empanadas to share with a coke for $6 something which is pretty decent. Tried the spinach & ricotta (yum) and the beef. Very yummy. If you're in the area, it's a must!

Yelp
The best churros in town. Bonus: come during a week day when the owner is there and experience authentic maté. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Didn't get to snap a photo of the churros or empanadas because I got too eager to stuff them in my mouth! I find the churros pleasantly sweet--not overwhelming. I highly recommend the nutella and dulce de leche filling. I kind of wish the churros were warmer when I ate them, but overall I still find them very satisfying.

Yelp
Great variety of churros and empanadas. I have nothing bad to say about the quality of their food. You can also find various products that you wouldn't find elsewhere, like sauces and candies. Their paletas are also something everyone should try at least once! The problem is that they have so many great flavours, it's hard to decide which one to choose. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Need churros? Seriously, just go here. They are that good. Perfectly crispy on the outside, amazingly soft on the inside.

Yelp
Quick shop to go if your craving something sweet, been finding some Churro places here in Montreal, this was the first shop that I found and I'm not disappointed! The places and the people working seem so cheering !!!!! I highly recommend

Yelp
Churros were the bad boys I came here for and from which Che Churro gets their name. These fried choux based pastries can be considered latin version of a doughnut; a fritter that's rolled in sugar and cinnamon then traditionally filled with dulce de leche and eaten hot. The warm gooey filling is a great contrast to the crispy crunch of the churro, whose ridges act as built in sugar and cinnamon holders. At a buck a piece - plain - I don't know how anyone would be able to stop at one... or two, for 15 churros in one sitting.

Yelp
Been enjoying their churros now for YEARS! My friend tends to pick up 2 dozens from them every time she comes over. One is the standard type, the other is filled with dolce di lecce and it's FANTASTIC people. I can't comment on the wait times, the price tag or what not... just the goods and believe me when I say.... the goods are sublime. ALL HAIL THE KINGS AND QUEENS OF CHURROS!

Javier L.

Yelp
I love the empanadas, churros, tamales... the service. I just hope they expand so other people can have the same opportunity to discover the best empanadas of MTL

Yelp
What can I say ? They make a solid churro, its everything you want a churro to be and more :) nice, crispy and golden on the outside and you can get it plain or filled (I like the dulce de leche filled one the best)! I've also had their empanadas which are also very well made and you can choose from a variety of different tasty fillings some more traditional and some with a bit of a twist but nothing too crazy , just fresh simple Ingredients that are well prepared. The service is friendly and their prices are very affordable. Although there is some seating inside, The location is small and not necessarily somewhere I would go for a sit down meal or snack , it's more of a take out sort of place. That being said , I can safely say this place has one of the best churros in the city and their empanadas are on point as well.

Yelp
Thanks Che Churro for fixing my Churro need the other morning. There is nothing to compare with a freshly made (aka FRIED) churro - WITH - and this is the important part... tasty thick HOT CHOCOLATE. I first tried this dish in Madrid about 30 years ago and it remains one of my favorite treats. In Madrid it's a breakfast treat - but I can eat them anytime. I think this is the ONLY place that offers them in Montreal - and although it's a bit off the beaten track (tourist wise at least) it's worth the trek. The chocolate was creamy thick - the perfect consistency. Not too sweet as the churros are dusted in sugar do some of the sweet lifting. The churros were perfectly fried - crispy on the outside and almost creamy on the inside. The best delivery vehicle on the planet for thick hot chocolate. Even in summer - this was a special treat. Plus the store has products from throughout Latin America if you're looking for purple corn from Peru etc... The product line is focused more on South America than Central America. Go and enjoy!

Yelp
Really good! The churros are delicious and quite decently priced. Also tried the Spanish hot chocolate which was really nice on a cold day. The churros were fried freshly upon ordering and the man who served us was so very pleasant and helpful. Although the place is quite small (three or four tables, I believe), I definitely recommend it; even if it's just to get something to go!

Yelp
super cute little shop, with delicious churros and amazing coffee. The empanda menu was quite extensive.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place.I had just had some delicious Churros last month and really wanted one.I came late so this may be why the Churros i received were dried out and a little hard to chew. I ordered the filled ones and the filling made it edible and the flavor delicious.I will come back earlier to catch the fresher batch.

Yelp
Customer service was amazing! The Churros were phenomenal! The empanadas were delicious. Happy I finally tried this place.

Yelp
Stopped on my long drive back to the USA and boy was I in for a surprise. These little crispy sticks are so much fun. They stayed crisp all day. Very well priced and the girl at the shop was super sweet and accommodating.

Yelp
I go there for their churros, they are indeed AMAZZINGG !!! They also have a variety of Latin American products at reasonable prices.

Heather W.

Yelp
Churros ???? No they are not a weird breed of dog... they are deep fried sticks of goodness rolled in sugar and cinnamon. Made a detour to try these... never had them before. Found them tasty enough but rather harder/crisper than expected. We tried plain, stuffed with dolce de Leche and Nutella. The neat thing is that they add the filling on order so the pastries don't get soggy. What is not to like? I suspect that while they were made that morning that they would have been amazing if they were still warm. As it was they were tasty enough at room temp. Brought home 6 different empanadas to try for dinner. The flavors were nice overall but a little too salty on one of the chicken ones for my taste and I didn't particularly love the spinach one... but then again it was made with spinach so we got what we paid for on that and shouldn't really complain... hahaha. Our fave was the nicely balanced cranberry chicken - an unexpected surprise in an Argentinian joint... The man at the cash (owner?) was very personable and helpful and patient with my Spanish attempt... Would give a 3.75 stars but am happy to round up to 4. Reasonable value for the price and fun to try something new (for me). I cannot honestly say it was the best I have ever had empanada wise... but it was good for the price point and friendly service. Will be back to try for a warm Churros and some of the other flavors of empanadas...

Yelp
Best churro in town and in North America! I'm Argentinian and know what a good churro is Niam niam, crispy, fluffy, not greasy and filled with dulce de leche I totally recommended And it's served by Ariel the owner that makes share everybody is well served, great service!!

Yelp
Great churros, fresh and tastes crunchy. Very friendly service. Perfect for on the go, they offer the fillings, which I didn't try yet.

Jake O.

Yelp
Excellent place to buy a churro. I recommend the savory one, parmagian. The place also has a small assortment of Latin foods such as tortillas and sauces. Friendly staff as well.

Bass C.

Yelp
Went to this place because of the reviews but really was't impressed... the churro was cold and my stomach was crying after that. Thank god i didn't throw up..

Steph K.

Yelp
Best churros I've had!!! Went the other day with my family, we made the trip there from the West--Island because we had heard about this place, and we were NOT disappointed! The owner is super nice and inviting as well! Will definitely return!
