You can never go wrong with a good ol' traditional Chinese bakery! This lovely little Chinatown spot features a wide selection of Chinese breads and pastries, all displayed in little self-serve cases. I dropped by around 6 PM, so I was expecting the selection to be pretty sparse and/or stale, but I was quite impressed by (1) the quality and freshness of the remaining bread, (2) the number of options still available, and (3) the number of people who managed to cram into this tiny space. The evening seems to be prime Chinese bakery hour, and it looked like folks were stocking up on desserts for the night and/or breakfast for the next morning. And I can't blame them - the buns all looked absolutely gorgeous. I ended up grabbing a green tea and red bean bun. The bread was super soft and moist, and it was the most beautiful forest green colour. I can't say that I could really taste the green tea, so I imagine most of it was just in the appearance. There was a good amount of red bean filling, and I appreciated that it was subtly sweet...all-around, it was the perfect late afternoon / early afternoon snack after a long day of exploring Montreal.

Went for a quick bite on Boxing day. Very little choices as items still being cooked. Selected a Coconut custard bun and a Sesame Ball. Review is on Sesame Ball. The pastry could have been cooked a minute or two longer as the filling was still slightly cold inside. I have had better elsewhere.

Google
Compared to the Chinese bakeries from Vancouver (even at $0.75-$1) more per piece, this is by far the best buns I've ever had (these buns are to the left hand side of the store). There's an abundant filling in every bun and they all taste delicious!! Will definitely need to make another stop before moving on to Quebec City. 5/5 Now, moving on to the right hand side of the store where they sell bubble tea, my daughter ordered a fresh mango and melon slushy, and it was more melon than anything and it didn't stay slushy. It was pure juice after 5 mins. This was a disappointment. 2/5 stars

Google
Excellent Chinese baked goods that are creative and fun along with the authentic taste. Sad that the number of Chinese Bakeries are going down - but at least this one remains! Love how it incorporates French, Japanese favors in some pastries. Service is okay, but with food this good, it tends to be overlooked. No real location to sit, so it's takeout only.

Google
Nice little pastries to try out in Chinatown. I'm usually not really into these kind of dessert, but those here are really good. There are different kind of pastries to try, either hot or cold, and it really depends on your current taste. For instance, egg tarts are good. They used to have more choice, but it looks like they cut down a bit on what they do. I would recommend, but only if you pass by. It's not worth a detour for.

Google
Amazing selection of baked goods. Everything is fresh, served still warm, fluffy and flavourful. I loved the sugar donut and the chocolate filled « bread » the most

J Chavada

Google
Great pastries definitely try the three donuts and the almond croissant the matcha donut is not the best

Google
Great selection of baked goods, love their desserts, especially the coconut tarts and mochi…very tasty. The bakery is clean.

Yelp
I wanted to buy everything!!! This place is a treasure and the pastries are delectable.

Yelp
A highlight of our meals in Montreal. The egg tart was amazing - buttery, flaky crust with a flavorful egg filling that reminds me of those in Hong Kong. The buns all look so amazing (and huge!) the dumplings and steamed buns on the other side of the bakery were also good. Service is what you'd expect at a takeout place. Not a lot of place to sit and eat though.

Yelp
A nice inexpensive quick lunch in Chinatown if you're looking for Baos. They have a large selection. The baos are nice and soft. Its also great for afternoon snack.
google avatar

John Y.

Yelp
This was the other pastry place we tried in Montreal Chinatown. We got the same items from the 2 places to try. This place has pastries that appear larger. They also have way less selection than Coco, depending on the time of day you show up. In the late afternoons, Harmonie has a limited selection. Although the food here looks larger and fresher, it appears to be by appearance only. The food did not sit well with my wife, as she had to go to the bathroom throughout the day. The cream in the coconut cream bun is "waxy" if that makes any sense. We want to like this place more than Coco (as they had poor service), but could not rate it higher due to the wife getting sick after eating the food. Perhaps if we went earlier in the day, the food may be fresher?

Yelp
Chinese bakery and bubble tea place in Chinatown. My almond bubble tea was harsh. My cream bun was pleasant. It was not ecstasy producing ... But there is no need to ask for my money back. Eating here will not produce the tortures of the damned. But somewhere in Montreal, there is better bubble tea and better late afternoon snacks.

Yelp
When ever we visit Chinatown, it's a must to take home some Hong Kong style buns. We like to visit harmony bakery because of the variety they have. I always have to limit myself from buying too much because everything is so good. I recommend the hot dog buns, egg tarts, BBQ pork bun, curry pastry and the green onion buns. In my opinion these are the classics that you need to order. What we also liked to order from harmony was the fresh mochis and other sweet desserts! There is no sit down in here so you do have to take it out but there are some seats right outside if you want to sit. Service is also very fast and efficient. I recommend you bringing your own reusable bag for your goodies.

Yelp
Every single year I make the 7 hour drive and ALWAYS stop off here! Great prices, fresh items and large variety of yummies! You can't go wrong when you come here! Even the bubble tea is delicious. Can't wait to come back next year Their mochi is for-sure a much try! Next door attached to them is another spot they own and you can get anime/animal themed buns! Also a must try!
google avatar

Kaelyn F.

Yelp
I went here three years ago and have craved it ever since! Finally went again today and it's still as good as I remember! My go to selection includes the pork bun, hot dog in the bun, and the Chinese donut and custard filled donut! It's so cheap but absolutely delicious! It's a must stop when I come to Montreal now
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious! Grab a tray with a liner and tongs and select all your treats. Everything looks and tastes great.

Yelp
I love this place and if I wasn't from Toronto where the pricing is almost half that of this place I'd give it 5 stars. The smells that waft from this place are mesmerizing...it is a shame they don't open til 10 am on weekdays. They have a gold variety of savoury and sweet milk breads stuffed with the usual suspects of hot dog, bacon, bbq pork, custards and what not, but they also do matcha green tea steamed bread and cookies. They also supply pocky sticks and shrimp chips and some bottled Taiwanese and Chinese drinks , and have a bubble tea menu to boot. On a busy corner in China town this place always seems to be buzzing and next door there is a great place that does steamed buns with sweet and savoury filling along with Taiwanese rice and noodle bowls for under $10. I always stop by to get my Chinese bakery fix settled.

Yelp
Busy bakery located in the pedestrian area of Chinatown....Rue de la Gaucheterie. It's located next to a bao bao place, so both are pretty busy with people stopping by for a snack or sweet treat. I saw many things that I wanted, but for CAD$2.50 I got a huge almond cookie. It was really nice, as I bit into it, I could taste the vanilla and the almond...very prominently. Many other customers got egg tarts, croissants, cakes, mochis, etc. Overall a nice bakery with lots of variety. They have a section that sells specialty and birthday cakes as well as frozen drink like bubble tea and slushes.

Yelp
I was looking for a bakery in the downtown area of MTL where I was staying and I found Pâtisserie Harmonie right by my hotel. I ended up going two days in a row. Everything was fresh and delish. I would suggest getting the pork buns, coconut buns and scallion bacon roll. Yum!
google avatar

Lorraine K.

Yelp
Cute little bakery with a lot of different fresh options. I got the steamed cake. Delicately sweet and not too filling.
google avatar

Michelle D.

Yelp
Got the red bean brown sugar (bear) and custard (hello kitty) baos and they were actually pretty good. The filling and the actual bao is definitely on the sweeter side. When we came in the evening, their show case was quite empty so if you do come, I recommend going earlier for more options!
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
All the baked goods are delicious. My favorite was the Chinese donuts - they were extremely moist, fluffy, soft, and the sprinkle of sugar tops it off perfectly. The bakery is filled with a variety of goods and is very clean. The staff are friendly and the line goes pretty quick. I'm definitely going back here every time I'm in Montreal.
google avatar

Karen F.

Yelp
Came here years ago and got cute & tasty buns, so wanted to check them out again. Unfortunately, while the buns got bigger, the filling ratio didn't. Still mostly cute though.
google avatar

Meg A.

Yelp
A delight for the taste buds and the wallet, this landmark bakery in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown is a must-visit for snacks to eat right away on Rue De La Gauchetière and to bring home. Not pictured is my baked (not steamed) barbecue pork bun, which was airy, delicious, sweet, and savory. A little more meat to dough ratio would be lovely, but for the cost ($3) I'll just know to order two next time. It now takes credit and debit cards, which hasn't always been the case. Friendly and efficient service.
google avatar

Jan W.

Yelp
Bbq pork bun was very flavorful and fresh. We did not really care for the green tea red bean bun as much
google avatar

Kellie R.

Yelp
I love this pastry's shop location. It's right next door to Bao Bao Dim Sum. It feels like they're together but I'm unsure. This pastry shop has a nice collection of goodies and they're reasonably priced, too. Everything is prepackaged so you can grab and go. Do try their green tea cake! It's delicious!
google avatar

Fanny C.

Yelp
The pastries are so cute, yummy and cheap here!! I'm from NY and I love going to the chinatown in Manhattan so I have high expectations when it comes to Chinese bakeries. This place exceeded those expectations. The portions are huge here. My favorite was the chicken teriyaki fried bun. The outside was like a salty sweet donut bread and the inside was a curry-like chicken filling. It was amazing. The egg tarts are great too. Apple tart was buttery, flaky and perfectly sweet and sour. Probably my favorite bakery of the trip. Would def recommend for visitors going to Montreal's chinatown.
google avatar

Albert C.

Yelp
After trying the pineapple bun at nearby Coco Patisserie, I wanted to try the pineapple bun here as well. It was a good pineapple bun! The place was packed with customers so it appears many people agree with me.
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
Hong Kong style bakery in Montreal's Chinatown has a wide variety of both sweet and savory options. The coconut bun with cream was excellent, as was the red bean paste bun. The savory buns (BBQ pork and Curry beef) were a little sweet for my wife and me, but still happy we stopped in!
google avatar

Brad S.

Yelp
Curry beef bun. Delicious! Sweet! Fresh! Warm! Affordable! The shop is clean and well laid out. Right in the middle of Chinatown this is a very budget friendly place to eat and be happy with your experience! Definitely worth trying, it's beefy & flavourful!! I'll be back.
google avatar

Linh L.

Yelp
We arrived soon after the bakery opened and were so excited to see the fresh baked goods! The egg tarts (9/6$ CAD) were perfect -- flaky crust, smooth and shiny sweet custard). We also got the BBQ buns, hot dog bun, and sweet cream bun. All of these were great! Our entire purchase was only 18$ CAD which is super affordable for the quality and taste. I would definitely swing by here if you have the chance.
google avatar

Kemi A.

Yelp
I've been here many times when I visit the city because everything is fresh and tastes great! I'm obsessed with the sweet crust bun.

Diana L.

Yelp
It's connected to bao bao dim sum. The breads weren't ready when they first opened at 10. I got a biscuit that was dry and the egg tart tasted very eggy. Not sure if that's a good thing. Service and lines moved fast though
google avatar

Yelp
Ok if you look at the appearance and not the flavour for all the food, I will give it a five stars review! I mean look at them! It's so cute! It is for both Harmonies (left store) and bao bao dum sum (right store). For Harmonies: The first time I went there I got the 日式綠茶蜂蜜蛋糕 (green tea honey cake) and the 白色砵仔糕 (tradition Cantonese style red bean pudding in bowl shaped). I ate the 砵仔糕 the same night and it were average or below average (aka not tempting me to buy more even though I am a 砵仔糕die hard fan). The cake is good though small. I went back the next da to get taro bun. The taro bun which I eat the next day were awesome! I went on the third day to get some more but too bad it sold out. So I got a bunch more stuff. The grape bread braid is not that great. No bread flavour. White big white chocolate cookies are great and just like Mrs Fields, though I little on the sweet side. The small buttery cookie squares with nuts are sooo good that I wished I've bought more! For Bao Bao dim sum: The same night I bought the 雞旦仔 (egg waffle Cantonese style) from bao bao dim sum. My recommendations is, spend that money on anything but that. It ends up in my trash (I hate to waste food but it were that bad!) I noticed they share some common food items like pineapple cake there. Possibly same owner or co-partnership?

Yelp
Amazing place. This is a must when stopping by Chinatown . I'm originally from NY and love Chinese bakery shops. After moving to Maryland, Chinese bakery shops like this is nonexistent. I was SO excited when I saw this bakery . It was Sunday and it was empty but it might have been because of the rain . Better for me, since I was able to slowly look around and checkout was fast . I got the shredded pork ... so good. The bread was so soft and the shredded pork was just the right amount . It melted in my mouth . I also got the egg tart as well . Haven't tried that yet (snuck it through airport security somehow) and it's sitting in my fridge . I also got the sweet crust bun .... Omg so good ! My fiancé doesn't like sweets much but he ate this whole thing (pretty mad I didn't get a second one) . My favorite was the honey cake . It was so simple, yet one of the best honey cakes I've had . This is a must try . I even took this through airport security and ate it the next day and it was still so delicious . Anyways - my only regret is that I didn't get MORE .

Yelp
Loved it. We stayed in the neighborhood for three days and found reasons to stop in and try new pastries every day. We would definitely recommend it.

Yelp
Reviews of Patisserie Harmonie and Bao Bao Dim Sum seem to be mixed together. I'm not sure if it's the same owner, but the places are side by side (Harmonie being at 85 de la Gauchetiere and Bao Bao being at 83 de la Gauchetiere). Harmonie has the brioche-like buns, croissants, tarts, etc., while Bao Bao has the cartoon steamed buns, bubble tea, and dim sum. This review is for Harmonie. I've reviewed Bao Bao under its own listing. Hailing from Toronto, where in Chinatown there are tons of Chinese bakeries, I feel that Harmonie is just average. Prices are higher than in Toronto and the taste is not as good, in my opinion. The mochi balls here are $1.50, the same in Toronto are $1 and some of the ones in Toronto are even filled with real fruit, not just peanuts and coconut. They sell tarts that they call "Portuguese egg tarts" but the crust is all wrong. The crust is more like a pie crust instead of the flaky phyllo-like crust typical of pasteis de nata. Even T&T Supermarket has better Portuguese custard tarts. It's usually really busy and crowded in there, because even though the prices are higher than I'm used to in Toronto, they are still cheap eats. Prices are comparable to those in Ottawa (where I live now), where it's even slimmer pickings for Chinese Bakeries :(
google avatar

Kathrina R.

Yelp
One of my fave bakery's to get those fresh buns on the go! Good selection, fresh and clean location.

Melissa V.

Yelp
Right in Chinatown. So delicious. Had the red bean bun, sweet raisin bread, and a tart. I could have bought and eaten so much more! Everything is fresh and looks delicious. Definitely recommend for a sweet or savory treat!
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
Omg. Cute! I took a few steamed buns of different flavors to-go. I LOVE the texture of steamed buns. The first one I tried was the green tea frog shaped one. It was delicious. I didn't try one of each but I think they were all really good. I'm sad that where I live we don't have a shop like this.
google avatar

Helene C.

Yelp
There isn't many places for mochi in Montreal, but this is where I go whenever I feel like having some. They have coffee, green tea flavored mochis... My 1st choice is the black sesame. Another favorite are the matcha and taro paste filled puffs. I tried making some at home but I still prefer the texture of their puffs.
google avatar

Krys P.

Yelp
Montreal's Chinatown is not big compared to other cities, but this bakery easily rivals if not wins many others in bigger Chinatowns. I admit when I saw pictures of those insanely cute buns in the shape of Hello Kitty, Keroppi and more (a mystery why they haven't received any letter from lawyers yet), I made it a point to stop by on my trip. I was blown away that besides these buns they have a lot more to offer. So many varieties, so many interesting flavors, everything tempts me. They also have many pastries in bags to go, so definitely take some on the road.
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
The cuteness factor is very high here. At this bakery, you'll find your inner child screaming in joy. This is simply because they decorate their sweet steamed buns as iconic characters: - Custard bun: Hello Kitty - Green tea bun with red bean filling: Kero the Frog - Sweet potato bun: Miffy - Sesame bun: Panda - Taro bun: Porcupine - Red Bean with Brown Sugar: Bear - etc. It's definitely thrilling to be able to rip apart your favourite mascot character's head while eating the buns. I was a little disappointed with the filling to bun ratio though. There was not enough filling to avoid a feeling of dryness, but hey, it's novel either way. The fillings are definitely sweet and creamy and the buns are soft, so the only issue is the filling to bun ratio. Otherwise, the buns would have been perfect. I would recommend you to give this bakery a try if you're in Montreal's Chinatown. Try to go during non-peak hours though. There can be quite a line up, especially since it's located so close to a convention centre!
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Experienced a delicious sugar donut. Super fresh and tasty. Selection of baked goods and treats is wild and may induce excessive drooling. It is understaffed so I had to wait over 5 minutes to pay in a long line-up. The other cash wasn't staffed and could have been easily fixed. Super crowded, hire staff! Would definitely visit again.
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
First things, first...get a tray and a pair of tongs then peruse the shelves for what bread or pastry jumps out to you. Stack 'em as high as your tray can handle and head over to the counter so they can box it up for you nice and good. Make sure you have cash...it's cash only! What did I get? Well, for starters, I went with their PORK FLOSS, then I saw they had a SPICY ONE so I also got that, next was their HOTDOG BREAD, and I thought I already had too much but we saw the EGG TARTS, and finally on our way to the register we came across the CUSTARD FILLED-BREAD. Bottom line, if you love fresh baked buttery pastries, walking in here is like going inside a candy store. Most of the items cost about $1-$2 so don't get carried away. Remember, "a moment on your lips, a lifetime on your hips"! My favorites? Honestly, it's the SPICY PORK FLOSS that really left a mark on my palate. It's shredded dried pork drizzled on a buttery bun. No filling but the topping is more than enough to make this pastry burst with savory flavors. Not to mention, it's pretty filling! The spicy level wasn't as high as I hoped it would be but then again, I like spicy food. For me it's mild so maybe for others it's spicy enough. The PORK FLOSS that's shaped almost like a square is another fave. Not spicy but the pork is drizzled on some mayo on top of the bread. That added fat just sealed the deal for me. I didn't get to try the egg tarts and custard bread since my friend ate them all. I hear they were good! The hotdog bread on the other hand was nothing to write home about. Make sure to come in the morning to get the "freshest" pastries and bread. They also have quite a selection of bubble milk teas that looked really good. Now, I regret not trying any.
google avatar

Nicole O.

Yelp
Stopped in for a sweet treat after our dumpling lunch. There were many people in line. Grab a tray and some tongs, pick out what you want, go pay. We got a couple of their sugar donuts. They were quite tasty and big enough that the three of us could share two.

Yelp
Patisserie Harmonie was a lifesaver for us during our stay in Montreal. This Asian bakery is located in Montreal's tiny Chinatown, and it was very close to our hotel. Made it very convenient to visit here just about anytime we wanted to. Here is a rundown on what we tried here. Hong Kong Egg Tarts are yummy! Crust is light and flaky. Definitely, some of the best egg tarts that I have ever eaten! (5 stars) Portuguese Egg Tarts were good. Crust was a bit too burnt for my liking. (3.75 stars) Fried Chinese Beignet donut. Yummy goodness! (4 stars) Shredded Pork Bun. My wife liked this goodie a lot! (4 stars) Banana Rice cake (mochi). Not bad at all. (3.5 stars) Sweet Crusted Brioche had No Filling! Still delicious, though. (4 stars) Mango and Peanut Mochi is really good. The texture goes crazy in your mouth. The filling is generous. Cannot taste the mango mochi though. It is overpowered by the peanut and coconut filling. (4.25 stars) Bbq Pork bun is hot and good tasting. (4 stars) These were not all the food that we ate here during our 5 night stay. Just some tidbits of information. There was more that we wanted to try, but our metabolisms would not allow. Depending on what time of the day you go, this bakery can get very busy and crowded. The crew does a good job of keeping the line moving. They also do a fine job of keeping the shop clean and organized. I wish that Patisserie Harmonie was in my hometown. Oh well... Chances of returning here our 100% during our next trip to Montreal!

Yelp
Right in the heart of Chinatown is this place, which focuses on taking the Chinese bakery to the next level. What drew us to this place was their playful take on the bao, which made the kids go nuts. The bakers here shape their steamed baos into cute animal shapes and have more modern takes like green tea and red bean shaped like a little frog face. There is substance behind the style however as the buns looked as good as they tasted. The green tea dough was infused with just the right amount of powder which made it fragrant and not overpowering. The red bean filling was excellent and the baos were steamed to perfection. Portions are large so don't get greedy. A must if you're in the area and you love baos.

Kat J.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place when we were walking through Chinatown. We weren't particularly hungry, but saw the cutest buns on display and decided to check out the place. First of all, this place deserves three stars purely on the freaking adorable ways they make the different buns. They had various shapes, including rabbits, bears, chicks, Hello Kitty and even porcupines. I loved the different colors and shapes, so unique!! They also had a display of a giant peach split open with little peaches inside. Unfortunately all of the cute buns had sweet fillings and I was in the mood for something savory. I settled on the pork and pickled vegetable bao, as well as the BBQ pork bao. Both were plain looking, just like a regular bao. I liked the fluffy and light skin of the buns, but the filing was too little and tasted average. I wonder if sweet/cute buns were better. I still ended up giving the place four stars because the originality of its creations and the great tasting skins of the baos. Wish there was a place like this in NY, the cute baos would make a great hostess gift or gift for children.
google avatar

Min T.

Yelp
Got the taro porcupine bun. It was super super cute!!!! The bun was pretty good, fluffy, with a sweet filling. I would like more fillings in my bun though please!!
google avatar

Cyndy K.

Yelp
Cyndy's Bottom Line: A nice food stop to eat a quick snack of bao buns and pastries. Let's be real - I stopped in to see the cute Hello Kitty buns. I ordered the "Combo A" which comes with a bun of your choice, 2 dim sum, spring roll and chow mein. This is what I ate: BBQ pork bun - bun was steamed perfectly and soft. Good amount of pork filling and tasty. Shrimp dumpling - wrapper was under cooked. Shrimp filling ok. Pork shumai - a bland tasting shumai - I added shiracha for flavor. Chow mein noodles were tasty, yummy. Spring roll - under fried.
google avatar

Vijay S.

Yelp
Good spot for bubble tea and hello kitty sponge cake/ baos. They have lots of other flavors including spicy/curry flavors. Got the mango bubble tea along with the sweet custard bun. The bun was soft and fluffy and pretty cheap. Cash only place.
google avatar

Francis T.

Yelp
While walking around, one of my daughters wanted to do a quick stop here to get a pastry and a bubble tea drink. The good: Very cute products. Lots of choices. Lots of different Chinese products. Bubble tea was really good. Different kind of pastries. Also have cakes. The bad: Place really small, and really busy. Hard to move around. Service at cash is poor and a line up is expected. Use this place only if you are looking to live a different experience. You will have trouble to browse in the choices as there is so much people.

Yelp
Such a nice, clean, and delicious little bakery in Montreal's Chinatown! It was crowded even on a Thursday afternoon! The Hong Kong style milk tea (got it without sugar) is absolutely amazing!! Grabbed a bunch of bakery items that looked appealing. Just to name some - the green tea cake with red bean paste inside, Japanese steam cake, matcha cream cake, and almond cookies are so good!! Prices are reasonable for the quality and portions! Definitely recommend if you are looking for some light fluffy delicious snacks in Montreal!
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
Awesome place It's a serve yourself place which is great you just take a tray go around and pick what you want from plastic container. Desserts, lunch, bubble tea and plenty of buns! I tried two different kinds one had bbq and one was curry. Never had them before but it had me come back for a second time with another friend.
google avatar

Justine S.

Yelp
The pastries are so good and so cheap. It's impossible to dislike. I spend most of my time downtown so I go to Coco bun which is the same chain. My favourites are the relish and hotdog buns, meat patties, spinach pastries, and cheese buns. The staff is always so lovely. The place is always packed and they get everything done pretty fast.
