14 Top Montreal Bakeries for Italian Zeppole - Eater Montreal

"Open since 1988, and with a second location at the Jean-Talon Market, Patisserie St-Martin is a staple for Italian sweets in — and out — of the city. Come spring, it’s slinging zeppole in pistachio, limoncello, and Nutella flavours." - Valerie Silva

The food is amazing, but the customer service is honestly zero. I waited on the line for 10 minutes on hold, but after a while of being forgotten, I hung up and called back. This time, the person answered and served me right away without putting me on hold again. Then, I made a one-hour trip just to pick up a cake. Before leaving, I specifically asked if they had the cake I wanted and if it would be enough for 10 people. The person reassured me, told me not to worry. But when I arrived, the cake was tiny—definitely not enough for 10 people. It’s super disappointing. Great food, but the experience and customer care really ruined it.

I ordered the Ossobuco to my work they send it cold and gross. Very strange white spaghetti noodles. Tasted like fridge. Are you Italians or Sri Lankans what is this bullshit . Very disappointed no love here treated me as a customer like a dog by sending this.

Received very rude service from a man. Time and time after purchasing cold cuts here, we ask that the cold cuts are cut thin. They do it on purpose to cut them thick so we spend more money and they profit. One time I asked for prosciutto 20 slices thin, they wanted me to pay 34$ (more than a 1.50$ a slice) compared to the next day, I went elsewhere and I paid 18$, for the same amount and same brand and it was half the price! No matter who I get served by, they blame it on their “slicer machine” - which is false. I have worked with these cold cut slicers myself, you are able to make it as thin as possible. They forcefully make all cold cuts extremely thick and they don’t listen to customers requests, nor when we asked to see it, they give us attitude and throw the cold cuts or smash them away with their hands, saying “you don’t want it, don’t take it” when I NEVER refused to take it, I simply was expressing I asked for my cold cuts thin. Terrible service - it’s unfortunate myself and others collectively with the same issues as discussed, will be taking our business elsewhere for the lack of listening to customers, forcefully making us pay double the price for their profit and and poor customer service.

The place is clean. The staff is fully professional, very polite, helpful, and friendly, plus they speak English. The products are delicious. I don’t have much to compare the prices to, though. I got a cannoli and an eclair. I loved the cannoli, and the eclair was nice too. Just make sure to get the cannoli fresh so it's crispy. Keep that in mind. They don't use animal gelatin, but it's still good to ask about each product. Thank you to the staff – you’re doing a great job!

The best pastry in the world. Very busy, but there are many employees to help things move along quickly. Been going there for many many years. You will not regret it. High quality great price.

Ordered a cheese cake 48h in advance for a bday. Quick and courteous service. For a pretty big 6 person cake, it cost 35$ which I found reasonable. It wasn't the best I've had but it still was very good. They also were able to personalise the cake.

Google
Oh, this place is something else! We were there after some instagram posts, but their food is from another planet! Way better than the pictures. We are in love with their nutella soft bread (maybe it is a strudel) and with their pizza! Definitely coming back. I also suggest you make a picnic in the rocks across the street. The neighbor really loved us being there.

Yelp
I love this pastry shop, it's my go to place when I'm craving sweets. The staff is always so nice They have everything Italian. Cakes, pastries, cookies, sandwiches, salads, pizza, bread, coffee and they also have Italian products where you could buy(cheese, pasta, pasta sauce, cold cuts, pantone ect). My favorites here are the cannolis, the lobster tale and also the sandwiches. I also love the cafe cream and the ice limoncello. This place is perfect to grab something in the morning but also good for lunch time and dinner. They also have a small eating area where ppl can eat the food that they order. Definitely a must try place for everyone.

Yelp
Something changed, Patisserie St Martin used to make delicious cakes. Their classic Chocolate Bûche de Noël used to be one of our favorites. But last year, the chocolate bûche was dry. For Valentine, I had their cupcakes: chocolate, vanilla. The chocolate cupcake was dry. The bottom of the cake was sticking on the cupcake paper. They seem to have changed recipe of their chocolate cakes. The vanilla cupcake was better, although not soft, nor moist. The frosting tasted like shortening rather than buttercream.

Yelp
The intoxicating aroma of quality baked goods at @patisseriestmartin overwhelms you immidiately and you can't help the urge to try everything possible they have to offer - and what a selection indeed! From fresh pizza to delicious sandwiches to pastries and cookies and cakes ; you should not have any trouble satisfying your cravings here. Speaking of lack of self control... We purchased and tried every single cookie and none of them dissapointed. It was almost more than we could handle. Almost.

Yelp

Yelp
I love Patisserie St-Martin! They have a large assortment of things you can buy such as freshly baked bread, deli meats, cheeses, pasta, etc. They have a lovely section of pastries for all kinds of events and I'm sure you can order one for your event. You can get a sandwich made and even eat it outside. Fantastic. My only qualm is that the staff is unable to smile, throughout the years I have come here, they all collectively looked pissed off. Sometimes they also tend to keep pastries on show that aren't fresh and on 1-2 occasions wasn't very good....

Yelp
Love coming here for the zeppole, all the Italian bake goods are authentic. Also I'll grab a panini or lunch special which are always a good choice. The owners are also very nice and friendly.

Yelp
My family has been coming here for over 20 years. They make the most incredible cakes. Whatever design you bring them, they will conquer. Memorable: diet pepsi can, ocean cake + boat, super-sized Pocahontas poster. Not just the desserts, the salads and meats are glorious. We always leave with 5x the number of items we walked in for.

Yelp
I love this place. They have it all! Pastries, Cakes, Pizzas, Sandwiches, cold cuts, bread... and its all fresh! You must try the lobster tails. they are purely amazing. The Pizza is to die for! You got to try the "Arugula Pizza" its no where close to bitter. Ask them about the catering service, you won't believe what they have on the menu. It is all to die for. Don't forget if you need a quick lunch, you can come here and they will make you a sandwich or a hot meal. I am here quite often, just to get Pizza. Forget about Pizza Hut. This pizza is fresh and its really good.

Yelp
What can I say about this bakery besides I'LL TAKE ONE OF EACH. It's really how this place makes you feel! You want it all because it's already prepared and it smells so good! Pizza, breads, pastries, desserts... All top notch. I've been coming here for years and it's one of Laval's best offerings. During the holidays, I had to pick up some desserts for various family dinners, and instead of getting pricier pastries for such a large group, I decided to get some lemon cookies and biscottis instead. These guys are sold by the weight so I thought about 2 dozen of each should suffice for the amount of people and still be pretty affordable. I was wrong on the affordable part. 18 biscotti and 24 lemon puff cookies cost approx. $60. Was I taken aback? Sure. Angry? A little. But gosh darn - they were the best F'n lemon glazed puff cookies I've ever had. They were like little sweet clouds of heaven that had to have been freshly baked and glazed. So there you have it. Sure, certain items can be pricey but it's worth it.

Yelp
Pastries are ok but not GREAT like some reviews I have seen here. horrible sandwiches especially there Italian sausage sandwich very dry and had a sour taste to it which I know this is not the way it should taste. They ask you if you want it warm ...but give it to you still cold only the bread gets warm lol. Will be buying all my sandwiches down the road at Villagio, way better!

Yelp
I work near this Patisserie and after reading the Yelp reviews, I decided to give it a try to get a quick sandwich during my lunch break. As of the writing of this review, I have been to the Pâtisserie about 4-5 times in total. The first time I went I got a grilled chicken and veggies sandwich that was incredible. I went back and got another sandwich a week later and at the same time I bought a pasta salad, a baguette, a chicken pot pie and a tomato and cheese pizza. I was disappointed by the sandwich the second time, the interior was cold and it didn't really taste great either. The pasta salad was bland and not really creamy as I hoped. The baguette was delicious and so was the pizza but the biggest disappointment was the chicken pot pie. I should have known when there was a frozen food sticker on the box that it wouldn't be great and it was quite bad. The pastry wasn't flaky and the filling was bad. I've went back a few more times and bought a sandwich but it's always never warm enough. The insides are cold and the bread is crispy. The ingredients themselves are great but there isn't enough toppings and as such the sandwiches are dry. I'm giving it 3 stars because overall it's very good but far from perfect.

Yelp
My family went to the bakery to get a cake for Father's Day. I asked for a lighter cake, the clerk recommended the short cake with strawberries. It was delicious and light! The store carries seasonal products such as Natas Pastries, Zeppoles, specialties such as grilled hazelnut cake, mimosa cake. I suggest joining their Facebook page for the latest news.

Yelp
Their custom cakes are moist and delicious but its NOT WORTH IT. I have ordered may cakes through them and the last 3 were a nightmare; two of the cakes were not decorated how they should have been i.e pink flowers for a boys cake and the black colour missing from the icing printer so.. red was pink...there was no black outline or lettering and snoopy was just a white blob..it was a disaster but the third cake was the worst. For a 40th birthday I ordered a plain cake because i wanted to decorate it myself (i didn't trust they with the decorating) and the second we got it home, we watched it buckle and lean over and fall apart! whilst there was supports in the cake, it was just plopped on the board and the two tiers were not secured together. We had scrape the cake off the bench, pull what was left a part (including peeling off the fondant and trying to salvage it) and on top of the $120 we paid for the cake, i had to spend another $80 in an attempt to fix it. As for returning or notifying them, its not worth it being treated like a burden - the first time they ruined a cake they simply shrugged their shoulders and i was waved off....like i said...not worth it.

Yelp
Sooooo good! I usually leave with too much stuff because everything is just amazing and it's impossible to choose. They have a good selection of cold salads and pizzas and bread. I usually get my birthday cake from there and it never disappoints!
