"Patrick McGovern’s isn’t an official Irish pub — much of the menu is American pub fare. But the 1888 red brick building, in the heart of St. Paul’s historic Seven Corners area, helps qualify the restaurant for this list. Once home to a whole host of 20th-century watering holes, the pub has steadily grown its footprint over the years, evolving from a gritty old saloon to its current form, complete with a three-tier patio. Irish menu highlights include beef and potato stew, fish and chips, and Irish Mac, made with a Guinness white cheddar and cream cheese sauce." - Eater Staff, Stacy Brooks

"McGovern’s is a neighborhood bar with a stunner of a patio underneath a retractible roof and this year it’s been expanded into the back of the restaurant as well. It is an oasis that just happens to serve chicken fingers." - Joy Summers

Stopped into Patrick McGovern's after work for a quick bite. We sat in the patio area which features a waterfall and many TVs outside. Great relaxing environment. The service was good and timely. I had a Reuben and potato salad. The Reuben was large and very tasty. The potato salad was nothing special and about average taste.

I have been coming here since 1990, frequently until 2012 when I moved out of state, now just occasionally. I ate here twice this week. I got the Irish stew, it was delicious, and peppery as it should be. Tonight I got what I get 99.8% of the time, the hot turkey sandwich. It is the best hot turkey sandwich anywhere, real roasted turkey, no turkey roll or deli turkey passed off as roasted turkey. Service was fast both nights. This is their quiet time of year, very few customers when I was there.

Comfortable pub and restaurant, occupying several buildings, divided into separate rooms. The "atruim" is especially nice with ceiling panels that open. Conveniently located on 7th Street a short couple blocks from Xcel Energy Center (arena), home of the Minnesota Wild NHL hockey club.

Basic Irish pub chic, not even trying to break the mold here, but the place is clean and well-staffed. We came in for dinner, a bachelor party of approximately 18 guys. It was still really so we weren't unruly. We were seated quickly and Emily, our killer server, got us drinks and food insanely fast and accurately. Just what we needed. Basic bar food, sandwiches and the like, nothing special. Except the sweet potato fries, which were incredible. Even sweet potato haters like myself were blown away by them. Nice sightlines in the back of the house where our table was to the many tvs playing the games, payment was a breeze, and Emily, once again, was a great facilitator to us, funny and even shared local tips for our evening.

A very nice little pub. Prices were reasonable and the staff was great. The food was pretty good. I had the fish and the flavor was really good but it was a little dry and the sweet potato fries were cooked a little to long. Did try some of the Turkey Dumpling soup and that was very good.

Was downtown barhopping during the Wild PLAYOFF game on Saturday and stopped into McGoverns for a period. They have great TVs and perfect patio to watch a playoff hockey game except, no sound on the TVs? It was clear every single person in that bar was there to watch the Wild game and they didn't have the sound on? Again, it was a HOME PLAYOFF game. Seems like Tom Reid's is the only bar down there that turns the sound on the TVs during the game and its probably why that place is always so packed and every other bar is dead. Great vibes otherwise - this is just a easy way to enhance game day on West 7th in my opinion.

Came here on a hot day, but the breeze on the patio next to this beautiful waterfall is divine. I love this spot - damn near perfect. Will be coming back with friends.
