Guide: How to Spend 24 Food-Filled Hours in Guerneville Like a Local - Eater SF

"Being the first in the door at Pat's International isn't just a perfect way to start your day; it'll help you beat the line that inevitably forms around 10 a.m. The coffee is quintessential diner coffee, which is to say, it'll get the job done. It's worth holding out for a full breakfast moment later in the morning, but the cinnamon sugar doughnuts made to order are not to be missed. The breakfast sandwich is a solid choice if you're looking for something more substantial." - Garrett Schlichte

We were on the way to visit Armstrong Forest and stopped in here for lunch. We chose Pat’s based on the amazing reviews and it didn’t disappoint. The menu is interesting and after seeing it, we understand the name of the diner. They have an ecelectic mix of nationalities highlighted on their menu. The items we chose, the Salmon BLT and their “KFC” (Korean Fried Chicken) Sandwich were pretty good. Their donut is amazing! The sauce and slaw on the KFC sandwich were incredible, flavors overall were great, but the chicken was just a little too thin. The fries that came with it was incredible! Save room for dessert and get that donut – WOW! The venue isn’t much to look at, except for the large map of the Russian River on the wall – which is really cool. Otherwise, it’s just a very dimly lit diner style restaurant that seems to have been last updated in the 70’s filled with picnic tables inside. But, it’s comfy enough to enjoy their amazing food, so stop in!

Hippie bowl with temphe was really yummy! It was a bit expensive ($23) for just a medium-sized portion. Did not appreciate eating my vegan meal while being stared at by dead animals on the wall, but I get that it's their style. I would encourage the owner to rethink. The server was really nice, too! 👍

Food: 3.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Overall: One of the few places in town to go get breakfast. The extended review... Food: Country Breakfast - 3.5/5 - It comes with a good amount of accompaniments for a decent price. Taste was standard fare and my stomach was happy. Doughnut - 3.5/5 - A standard cinnamon sugar donut. How can you go wrong? Service: 3.5/5 - Standard service. Ambiance: 4/5 - It's definitely a different ambiance on the inside but definitely mimics the ambiance of the area.

I used to go here just for the Korean Fried Chicken (it is SO GOOD). This weekend I went with some friends at 10:45am - just a smidge too early for the lunch menu. We all almost waited the 15 minutes to get the chicken. BUT - we were hungry so we all ordered omelettes. Guess what .. they were SO GOOD. Fluffy and flavorful. I got cheese peppers and ham. Cooked to perfection. Clearly high quality ham being used - and the peppers and ham were clearly cooked/grilled before being added - just as they should be! Will be back for more omelettes (and chicken of course)!

Food was fast and friendly. We came for breakfast and were in and out in about 40 minutes. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Drink list is extensive with wines, mixed drink, coffee, and juices. The food was okay for the price, but I feel like the menu has more potential than the flavors we got on the plate. Nothing really stood out aside from the sausage gravy, but they have very hearty portion sizes.

I recommend Pat's to everyone. The food is deeply delicious. Their menu options cover the full gambit from free-range beef to fully vegan, with everything in between. They are renowned for how good their burgers are. As a vegan, I loved the Hippie Bowl -satisfying mixture of barley, greens, and other vegetables with the Best sauce. Vegan choices of protein included grilled or fried tofu and tempeh, and their own "Korean Fried Tofu." For your omnivore friends, they can also add chicken, salmon, and several other choices. Breakfast is served 9-3, plus lunch dishes after 11. Breakfast is high in traditional favorites including egg and dairy, but they also have a tofu scramble I really look forward to trying. They make donuts -not vegan or healthy - cooked when you order them! The setting is pleasant, other than the deer heads on the wall which they keep for historical reasons. The staff is really nice and on top of things.

The restaurant was instantly cozy. We were seated in a booth and addressed very quickly. The music was mellow and it added to the cozy feel. My husband had the burger and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were very good! We also ordered doughnuts which were made to order and they were delicious. It reminded me of my grandmother used to make when I was little and my husband said they were a “memory from childhood”. We highly recommend. I took a few pictures, but I always as an afterthought lol - it was just that good.

Google
The food at Pats is both comforting and delicious. Super nice server, piping hot tea on a cool day, and a great menu with options to customize and add on. Perfect for me (omnivore) and my wife (vegan) to both have a great meal.

Yelp
Everyone said the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) was the bomb. They didn't lie. It was delicious. Great amount of slaw, sauce, chicken, and the brioche bun was so tasty - the whole thing was delcious. Good thing, because it's $14 for just the sandwich (no sides included) so you'd expect it to be pretty amazing. It was. The Ham Benedict was really good if you like savory cheese, which we do. The Mornay sauce is a bechamel with gruyere and that was the overwhelming taste of the dish. I was surprised that the ham was in cubes instead of slices like I'm used to seeing on a benedict. The hash browns that came with it were good, I was curious about them because some yelpers had horrible things to say about them, but I felt like they were pretty standard diner style hash browns. We did get the cinnamon sugar donut which feels special because it's warm and was a nice combo of sourdough zing and sweet sugar. Our server was friendly and efficient and took good care of us, checking in at all the right times and making sure we had everything we needed. Felt good to support a local business that's been around forever and has good vibes. The textured wood walls, geometric ceiliing tiles, and old school countertop were welcoming and gave a very cozy vibe. We don't fish much, but looking at the huge painting of the Russian River and all its fishing holes made us wish we did.

Yelp
First time stopping in and very glad I did. Immediately upon arrival I was greeted with a friendly hello and smile from staff & seated promptly. The restaurant had a very welcoming atmosphere and made me feel at home. I loved the ceiling design and the wall decor. Coffee and Chai Latte was superb and the menu had a variety of options to choose from. I had clear view of the kitchen from my seating spot and watched the cook staff make our food and most importantly I saw the cook line staff smiling and enjoying themselves while working. This was a a wonderful site to see. Food portions were good for the price and tasted great. Thank you for the fabulous service and meal!

Yelp
I've visited Pats a few times now and I've always had a great time. The food comes out pretty quickly and it's always delicious! I recommend the Eggs Benedict or Biscuits and Gravy. Their decor is a lovely rustic cabin vibe with wood and animal accents. The staff are always friendly and the place is always clean! Menu is a bit small but there's something for everyone. Definitely a great place to visit if you're looking for diner food in town!

Yelp
We stopped by Pat's for lunch during our quick visit to Guerneville. We were seated quickly and the servers were pretty friendly. I had the seasonal sauté with Korean fried tempeh. The food was quite tasty but the overall package was meh. The dish main consisted of some greens and mushrooms tossed together. The tempeh was well seasoned. All in all it was nothing special and could easily be made at home. $22 was quite steep for this dish.

Yelp
OMG I want to eat the KFC sandwich every day of my life. Saucy, crispy, hot chicken with crunchy fresh veggies and a soft flavorful bun, the perfect combo. I will dream of this sandwich. I don't think we said a word during this meal, we were too busy eating. My husband had a regular burger which he really liked too but that's not what this review is about.

Alex C.

Yelp
Place was too busy. Understaffed. Service was rude. It's unfortunate Guerneville does not have more breakfast places.

Yelp
Incredible food in a beautiful area with great customer service. Highly recommend you stop by so many great breakfast options the hardest part was choosing what to eat. Easy parking & great shopping all on the same block. Will try more next time we're in the area.

Yelp
Visit whenever I am in Guerneville and I am so glad that they maintain their delicious food and friendly service and atmosphere. We are kind of addicted to to the Kale Caesar, KFC sandwich and the KFTifu sandwich. We have tried other things that are equally delicious but this seems to be our go to for a delicious lunch.

Yelp
Food was outstanding! Service was outstanding Ambiance was really cool If you don't eat here, you are truly missing out. Came across this place just by walking around downtown They serve breakfast and lunch and both are amazing KFC do not pass up Mac and cheese wow Patty melt wow Pat's burger wow

Wanita K.

Yelp
Wow, the kfc sandwich was so good! The flavors and the chicken were all so yummy‼ we also order the steak fries and add the cheese, and I'm in awe of all these good flavors. Definitely need to try some more stuff on the menu next time

Yelp
Aside from one customer who already had his food, me and my friend were they only people in the restaurant and sat at the counter last Friday (05/09). However, it still took about a half hour to get our food. One was bacon and eggs, the other sausage and eggs. Both with hashbrowns. Nothing too involved, yet it took far longer than it should have. The food had no flavor and the biscuit tasted day old. While we ate, the server (Terrance) checked on the guy at the end of the counter. On his way back, he coughed a phlegmy cough into his hand. But rather than wash his hands at the sink located mid counter, he shoved his hand into his pocket and rubbed it off there as he passed said sink. Grossed out, we paid our check and left.

Yelp
I loved my time at Pat's International. Great food and service with a cute, comforting ambiance. I ordered the KFC Sandwich, Fried Pickles, and Doughnuts. Everything I ordered was delicious. The KFC Sandwich had a very interesting flavor combination of sweet and tangy. The fried chicken had a sweet flavor. The batter was very crispy and the chicken was very soft. I loved the combination with the radish and cole slaw. It added a nice texture. Also, I think the burger bun was one of the best burger buns I've had. The fried pickles were also amazing with a unique pickle aioli. And wow, don't get me started on the doughnuts. They were fresh out of the oven and were perfectly soft and crispy. I hope to come back to try more on the menu, especially Pat's Burger (hyped up by my friend).

Yelp
Ravenous after going on two hikes, our group was drawn to Pat's International because all-day breakfast sounded like just what we needed. Plus, Pat's was able to accommodate our large group of about a dozen people, and we were seated shortly upon arrival. Our servers were friendly and efficient - we placed our orders and received our food relatively quickly, despite the size of our group and sheer volume of food we ordered. I opted for the hippie bowl, which was a cauldron of farro and roasted root vegetables and drizzled with sesame dressing. The meal was very satisfying and flavorful, and I felt very healthy while eating it. My friends ordered breakfast sandwiches, which were served on fresh biscuits and looked amazing. I also saw freshly made doughnuts on the menu, so I noted that as something that I will need to try on my next visit. Pat's International is located a short drive from Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, so it is the perfect place to grab brunch / lunch after a hike.

Yelp
We enjoyed sitting outside, and loved the Huevos rancheros, so yummy and healthy. Thank you for the prompt service and the relaxing lunch outside in the sun.

Yelp
Monday, wfh at the hotel, not sure what to eat. In 90 degree heat I found this cool vibed diner, and the KFC sandwich caught my attention. Got it to go with fries and OMG. Sooooo good. Husband and I cannot believe how delicious it tastes. Tangy, juicy, perfectly toasted buns + perfectly dressed Cole slaw + perfectly fried chicken, with a side of potato wedges. Opened the vermentino I got from Ryme Cellars and had me a delicious lunch back in the air conditioned room. Might need a nap now. Happy as can be.

Justine V.

Yelp
Such a cute little restaurant! Very warm and welcoming. Has that classic old school charm. We came here after a hike and were not disappointed! Staff was very friendly and food came out quick. They have plenty of vegan options which is always a plus! We will be back!

Yelp
What a fun spot. The gentleman that hosted us and was our server was very friendly, the food came out quickly, and everything was very tasty!

Yelp
We have loved Pats for years. Today we had out of town family here at our river house. We ordered 7 KFC sandwiches and sides and on burger. 5 of the sandwiches basically had chicken skin... no meat. Embarrassing and very disappointing. We did not take the time to drive back and tell them.

Yelp
FUXS GIVEN = 5.0 ******************* Food = 5 Chicken fried steak is one of my diner go-tos and this is the best one I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and tender. UX = 5 The interior design of this place is great and the vibe was fun. Service = 5 Perfect service.

Yelp
Classic diner vibes with a surprisingly hip menu! We loved the tofu grain bowl and the service was amazing in spite it being a busy lunch.

Yelp
We stumbled upon Pat's International after finding out that Big Bottom Market (next door) was out of biscuits and to be frank, I'm quite thankful we missed out on biscuits for the day. We sat outside as we had our pup with us - from my recollection there are only two tables outside. Service was prompt and friendly, but the best thing was the food! I ordered a mac and cheese topped with korean fried chicken while my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak. The korean fried chicken was perfectly crisp and had a good level of sweetness to it without being cloyingly so. The crisp was in good contrast to the gooey mac and cheese below which was also very tasty and was seasoned just right for me. The chicken fried steak was also delicious and smothered in a hearty gravy that was creamy but not too heavy! The meat was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The only thing I would change are the hash browns which could have been a bit crispier. Overall, a very tasty meal if you're in town!
google avatar

Nikol P.

Yelp
Always enjoy breakfast here. Nice place to eat outside with your pups although the inside is a little outdated, but it brings character to this little town. we love so much. The Mexican spice mocha is delicious along with the heuvos rancheros and everything else on the menu, including all lunch items are fantastic.
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
Would love to review the food, but after sitting at the counter for 10 minutes without even a "we will be right with you" and looking at how dirty the place was we decided to walk out. They seem to not like tourist, although they are located on the main strip for people passing through.

Yelp
Soo..... when im sitting there eating my food and can clearly hear myself enjoying every mouthful, i felt compelled to write this... Terrence was my server and hes a gem, to say the least... Friendly and attentive and hustled. At one point the restaurant was almost full and he was on fire while still maintaining his cool... see what i did there? On fire & cool... lol Anyway, do yourself a favor and get in there... Tell them I sent you.... Cuz im that important.. i didnt include any pics because i didnt think i would be doing this review... i do it very rarely...

Yelp
BROOO! This food is AMAZING! Nothing comes from a can the flavors are just on point the customer service is amazing I had breakfast here that was sooo good I decided to try their chicken to go !! NONE OF IT DISAPPOINTED!! Good job Pat's!

Yelp
We are in two for a couple of days and searching for dinner at 8. Many places were very busy but Pat's International wasn't, despite its cool menu, great interior, and spaciousness it was essentially empty. I talked to the server and we got served right away, the food was really amazing. We had the Korean Fried Chicken and the vegan fried chicken. Fried cheese and the kale salad along with local beers. The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was truly amazing and I highly recommend it. Also the photo opportunities, so many!

Mark S.

Yelp
Food service was poor gave me the wrong check and the food portion's were very small I left there still hungry 50$ later

Yelp
As I currently await my Vegetarian Korean Sandwich the Mexican Latte that wafted into my nose with the serene server was absolutely welcoming me to come and already bring my review to fruition! It's wonderfully spiced w aroma and allows the very nose and tongue to experience the depths in these flavors. It's not heavy like lattes that I've experienced w Oat Milk so I Very Highly Recommend ! tbc - Korean reviewing the veg korean sammy ;) Douglas and Adriana were absolutely a pleasure to interact w after I finished my whole meal! I would suggest getting the Sammy w a side salad as I experienced the perfect balance of sweetness and savory in the sandwhich. There is a beauty in the ways the sauce would soak in the brioche bun without completely melting the consistency into mush! I mentioned to Adriana that the salad would be better w just a lighter amount of dressing [and as someone who loves them raw veggies - very preferential] but for the beauty in the balance of the meal!! I will construct the best critics for the joyful consumption of cuisine for the comfort of the physical body [this physical body!!]! Thank you Pat's!! it's been a pleasureee **didn't even take a pic of the sammy cus I was also very immersed lmaoo #funeatz
google avatar

Yelp
Hip modern diner with great decor, a thoughtful menu, and a mean oat milk latte! I had the tofu scramble and it was simple in flavor, would have loved a bit more pizazz but it was fresh, light and satisfying. My partner the chicken fried steak and said it was the best he'd ever had. Really nice staff, great service and a lovely ambiance. Would definitely recommend and return, especially to try their lunch menu!
google avatar

Siva M.

Yelp
we stopped at this place on our way up to portland from SF and i was so pleasantly surprised! i got the farro bowl with korean bbq flavored tempeh and it was amazing - just what i needed for a flavorful light lunch during a drive. my partner got a breakfast and the biscuits were thin and fluffy - just amazing.

Yelp
I grew up in a small town that didn't have a notable restaurant scene until the very late 2010's, so my initial reaction to the pool table carpet and few tables outside Pat's International was: "this will probably be fine." But when I looked at the menu on the window, there were things like tempeh and Korean fried chicken. It was unexpected for Guerneville and Big Bottom Market was out of baskets, so we thought, why not? We ordered the Cocka-Doodle-Moo and Macaroni and Cheese with Korean Fried Chicken and it all tasted wonderful. The chicken-fried steak was fried very well when I was expecting it to be dried out, and the toast came pre-buttered without it being soggy with fat. I had a great time eating it, and the gravy on top was so good I'd probably revisit just for that. But I think the most surprising star of our meal was the macaroni and cheese. So many places have a baked version of macaroni and cheese to the point where I'm very used to flavorful but dry dishes but this was not that! Everything was saucy and cheesy and of course adding a piece of Korean fried chicken will immediately improve any dish. We had a nice time, and under the surface, Pat's is something special and surprising.

Jon K.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my huevos rancheros and the customer service was excellent but I have to admit, the hash browns were pretty bad. They were more white and brown than golden brown and they tasted old or stale if that makes sense.
google avatar

Reynaldo C.

Yelp
The staff Dave & Terrance are just amazing and friendly. The food is great! My favorite is the green pozole yum burgers and wedge fries .the taste is always consistent.
google avatar

Carlos C.

Yelp
Being a New Yorker, I feel that it is hard to impress me with pizza, so I'll just say it was ok. I really enjoyed the ambiance most of all. Dinners were up dancing and having a fantastic time. The live band was jamming, and their was a pair of golden girls singing and being in sync with dance moves! They were playing classics that everyone was singing along to. Great place !

Eric A.

Yelp
The food is not good enough to make up for the horrendous rude service. There's a reason this place is half empty during brunch on a busy holiday weekend. Meanwhile, a block away, people are waiting in line to eat at the River Inn Grill. Locals don't eat here.
google avatar

rebecca c.

Yelp
Never been disappointed with this place. We've been here many times over the year when we are visiting from SF. It was first recommended to us by our hotel (Stavrand) when I asked for yummy but healthy-ish food. She told us not to be put off my their interesting appearance because the food was delicious. She was correct on all accounts. It looks like a Stranger Things vibe diner with weird lighting but the food was so VERY GOOD and surprisingly affordable! TBH I wasn't expecting much but I loved it. We got a bunch of dishes, spring salad with poached strawberries, steak fries, seared trout and pot roast. The trout was fresh and the skin was crispy. Pot roast was juicy and tender. The winner was the steak fries. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. SOOO YUMMY! Definitely give this place a try. You won't be disappointed! We come here every time we visit Guerneville.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Perfect little spot it downtown Guerneville. We had a group of six and were welcomed in and served by David, who was kind and attentive. Food was spot on!
google avatar

Ken A.

Yelp
This place has potential but it needs about a $20k interior remodel. The artificial turf and two deer heads don't cut it. There were a lot of flies - yucky. Food was just ok - the KFC sandwich had a little two much sauce. The Salmon BLT was just ok. I like to see creativity in a chef, there was none here. The best thing was the Berry drink. The young man who helped us was very nice, the young woman not so nice. I will be skipping this one from now on.
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
How do they only have 4 stars ?!?! This place is amazing. Not your regular Sonoma County menu at all. The Korean fried chicken is a game changer. Made to order donut, yes PLEASE. Fried pickles delish. Vanilla cole slaw was out of this world. People super friendly Coming back over and over. 30 minutes from home, no problem.
google avatar

Elise S.

Yelp
I stopped by Pat's on my way out of Guerneville and was pleasantly surprised by the number of things on the menu I was tempted to order. There was something for everyone in my party--your standard American breakfast plate for my uncle, a hardy grain bowl for my LA aunt, and a stir fry for my vegan wife. I ordered the Hippie Bowl with fried tofu and it was delicious, although I did find myself adding a little bit of hot sauce and wishing it was less salty. Pat's does feel a little bit pricey, but given how tasty this place is I would return.

Anne P.

Yelp
We drove up to the Russian River area yesterday and stopped for lunch in Guerneville because our daughter and SIL had stayed and eaten there recently (Dawn Ranch, Pat's International) and loved it. Pat's is on Main St and looks like someone's 1950s rec room (knotty pine and deer heads). There's a counter, booths, and tables. It was pretty empty while we were there, but the people who did come in were definitely locals and regulars. Friendly service by the one server there. The vibe was very low key and chill which was a welcome break from this week's parade of intense election emotions. They serve breakfast all day and lunch after 11:00. What can you say about a place where you can order an excellent freshly made cinnamon sugar donut as an appetizer???! I don't care for donuts normally but fresh and hot? It's a whole different ball game. I had the (jack and cheddar) cheese omelette with spinach and mushrooms with locally made seeded sourdough toast, no potatoes. My husband had the burger with a side of wedge cut fries. Both were expertly cooked and unbelievably good! I'm already planning on what I'm going to order next time - posole, Korean fried chicken - too many possibilities. Wonderful place. I could have hung around all afternoon. Maybe we'll move to Guerneville so we can eat at Pat's more often.

Teak F.

Yelp
i love pats! when we first moved here the staff was so awesome we became friends with some of them! They dont have strictly vegan options but a few vegetarian/plant based and dont mind dietary restrictions... usually i get the same delicious tofu scramble and potatoes, however unfortunately lately the chefs have several times served me country potatoes that taste like bacon, so I've stopped going because bacon actually makes me sick... just thinking about it I'm grossed out! If you're not as picky as me though, it's a great spot with great customer service, my mom loves their variety of egg breakfasts and pancakes, and even some veggie dishes too! Just beware if you're strictly vegan or just very anti meat/dairy things are indeed cross contaminated in the kitchen. I hope they choose to include more vegan friendly eats eventually but i love them all the same for being such a big part of making me feel at home in my new town!!!

Yelp
We came in for breakfast and everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was very good. Our waiter even noticed I was tipping my coffee cup up a lot and came right over to give me more coffee. He was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the entire experience.

Yelp
We loved Pat's! Food was really good and the staff was nice...interior was strange, like kinda hard to describe, but like a 70's Montana hunting lodge cafeteria But we'd go again

Yelp
6/6/23-12:00-Had breakfast here. Average food for a fair price. Nothing too special and nothing too wrong with it.
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
Well the place is cute. Has a classic diner feel with some modern touches. It's also along the main drag and is open for lunch unlike a lot of other places. Service is also friendly. However, we need to talk about that KFC sandwich. Ok, vanilla slaw sounds weird but I thought I would give it a whirl. Turns out it is worse than I imagined it could be. The vanilla was SO strong and it did nothing to balance the flavors in the sandwich. The sauce on the chicken was already pretty sweet. That sandwich needed acid and heat to balance it, not more sweetness. If it was a vinegar based slaw with some jalapeño in it, it would have been much better. Also, my chicken was absolutely hammered. Extremely dry and overcooked. The breading was crispy at least. I am not saying I wouldn't go back to try some other things but this dish is an absolute miss from conception to execution.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
Everything is weird during COVID right?...so take this 3 star with a grain of salt. They wanted to push the menu to your phone with a QR code, but neither my friend or I could get it to work..Then they just brought over a large menu and held it for us. We split the fried chicken sandwich and the mac and cheese. They were fine, nothing to write home about. The macaroni and cheese ingredients were not incorporated together, sorta like they threw macaroni and some cheese sauce into a bowl and microwaved it .(which really is probably how most places do it, so I don't have an issue, but at least stir it together is all I am saying.) They lose one star for a filthy stained toilet (at least I hope it was stained, b/c if it was dirty, then I am completely grossed out).
