19 LA Bars and Restaurants Tequila Enthusiasts Will Love | Eater

"Bordering the Fashion District, this downtown hotspot is a combination of dance music, spirits (its nickname is the “House of Agave”), and tacos. Show up earlier in the night during happy hour for an El Chamuco (a take on the classic El Diablo with ginger beer and crème de cassis) and watch the space fill up as night falls and the DJs start to spin. Somewhere between a bar with a dance floor and a club with quality drinks, Pattern Bar is a favored place to dance on a sweaty summer night." - Robert Spuhler

The music was nice, and the audience seemed pleased. It was a bit quiet for a Friday at midnight. My drink was good, but the bartender was quite grumpy. Overall, it was an okay experience, but nothing exceptional.

Google
Nothing fancy but it's small for like at least 50-60 people. Bartender is unfriendly. Older man with grey beard. Have some personality buddy. Drinks are good. My friend Deejayed here recently. Not too shabby.

Google
Awesome spot to get drinks and listen to music. They always have great DJs playing on weekends and week nights - the times I’ve been there have been pretty decent trance/techno/tech house dance music. It is clean! Bathrooms are clean! Drinks taste good, and are not super overpriced. You can also order some food for around $8 - tacos and nachos etc. People here have a friendly upbeat vibe

Google
I come to this vibrant spot for the nonstop electronic dance music that fills the air from morning until night. The pulsating beats and electrifying melodies create an exhilarating atmosphere. On some nights, I’m transported back in time with the nostalgic sounds of old-school DJs spinning tracks, bringing a unique energy to downtown LA. The blend of modern and classic vibes makes each visit a memorable experience.

Google
I went for the drag brunch and it was a blast! The performers were so talented and playfully interacted with the patrons. The food was excellent and the drinks were so delicious. The service was amazing. I can’t wait until their next drag brunch

One of the best EDM bars in the city!

Google
Great bar in dtla. Very classy and good music. I think they have some of the best cocktails in L.A. Recommend the McQueen and their banana beer is a must try!

Google
Always a great vibe here, and love that they have a DJ every night.

Yelp
Pattern Bar has good music, good food, and the nicest staff! Tortillas from tacos had a slight crispy texture that made their tacos exceed my expectations. Pattern Bar is a good time!

Lynn A.

Yelp
No food, looked like the bar had nothing in it. 2 people there. Promotes all this food and happy hour, there was none.

Yelp
We tried to go to the R&B Brunch. They were charging $70 for brunch and the alcohol was an additional $30 fee, but there were only 4 food choices such as avocado or French toast! If you didn't purchase the brunch, then they charged a $10 cover fee. There was no way that we were paying that amount for such simple foods in an empty bar. Save your money and walk around the corner to Zinque for delicious food and drinks.

Yelp
this place continues to be a chill place for a drink to end the long week. service continues to be good. kind of nice they decorated for the holiday :D

Yelp
I attended the Drag Brunch hosted by Pixie Dot yesterday and it was an amazing experience. The show was so entertaining. The performers were beautiful and so talented. I hope they continue to feature drag brunches in the future. I'll be there! The venue is wonderful - lovely set up, extremely friendly and helpful staff, and delicious food. They have a fantastic margarita drink menu too. I had a strawberry infused margarita with spicy salt and it was the best margarita I have ever tasted.

Yelp
After discussing the evening with my date. I don't understand why he paid $50.00 for reservations. No hostess to greet us, no table reserved, the bartender saw the RED tickets. But still charged us for drinks. What was the purpose for those ted tickets? The Christmas theme drinks were awful. They kept getting my dates food order wrong he had to settle for his tacos. My bacon wrapped tacos were good. The D.J. Played Christmas trivia music with games. That was cute. But not my thing. Do I recommend it? No. Not for $50.00. Just go to any bar. There all decorated for the holidays.

Yelp
My friends and I came here on Cinco de Mayo. They had a dj and fun decor so we thought it would be the perfect spot for tacos. The dj was really good and very nice but he stopped playing after about 30mins of us arriving because he had another gig. He was so nice that he stayed a little longer because we were so sad about it! Do not go for the food. The chips were really stale. The guacamole had no taste and the taco meat was dry. I did love my espresso martini. It was delicious! I had to get a new topping because it had bits of paper all over it. The guy replaced it with his bare hands so I just took it off at the table. It would be more sanitary if they used a different method.

Yelp
Great place to come for drinks. Came for a drag show they hosted and had a great time

Tiffany J.

Yelp
Horrible! A friend and I wentt there because there was a sign for happy hour outside for $3 tacos $3 beer and $3 margaritas. We go inside there's no chef, they had no tacos are any other food at all. They mentioned there was an event the day before and the chef wasn't in, I'm thinking shouldn't you all have a chef at all times. Also the gentleman charged us $14 for margaritas and told his $3 was only for regular margaritas well the signs didn't specify that. It was just a hot mess. False sign advertisement to get folks inside. Stupid and deceitful. Plus it was so dead we were the only two people inside on a Wednesday around 5pm.

Yelp
Came here for a friends birthday and had a great time! The music was Latin themed on this Friday night, made me feel like I was back in Puerto Vallarta! We got there around 830 and there was no line, but there was a line to get in later in the night. Good music all night and decent priced drinks! About $10 for well drinks, good prices for LA in my opinion. don't go out much in dtla anymore but I would come back to pattern bar the next time I'm in the area! They also serve food, we didn't order any but they were making tacos that smelled so delicious!!

Yelp
sketchy af!..beware of the drinks here, the lemons/limes or whatever fruit they put on your drinks are full of fruit flies.....so nasty...be safe ya'll.
google avatar

Yelp
A small but mighty way station in the heart of downtown. All staff are friendly, willing to help you make sound decisions and DJ infused music can ease stress from daily grind .

Yelp
Bought a ticket from BucketListers.com to an event titled "Tinseltown: The Christmas Speakeasy in LA" at the Pattern Bar for $22. Total scam. Check out the 3 photos from the website used as advertisement, vs. the photo that was reality. We received 1 drink for the $22 which was ok. We could have walked in without the pre-purchased ticket though, so there was nothing "speakeasy" about it, and it was NOTHING like the advertised photos or experience.

Yelp
Total stumble upon situation that lead us here. While waiting for a show to start at the Orpheum, we headed to the rooftop bar at Ace but were put off by the long line. So I trusted in Yelp, as one does! And found this place which was a very fast walk. They check ids/Covid vaccine cards and inside it wasn't too packed but there were tables on the street too and lots of open windows. The line at the bar was light, the DJ was loud and playing great music! The sound sealed the deal. And then the bartender sweetened it by getting straight to us with no delay and making us delicious cocktails. We also ordered the shrimp tacos & the potato tacos which were crunchy and satiating. We were able to grab a booth and hang out. People were dancing, and it's small and intimate so everyone is front/center which makes it fun to people watch. We really enjoyed the DJ and just having an unexpected night at a bar with a club feel. Post Covid, it felt like such a treat and I'm so glad we ended up here to enjoy it! I'd definitely return.
google avatar

Smita N.

Yelp
Good nightlife vibes. Went on a weekday and there was good music and it was decently busy without being chaotic. The signature cocktails are definitely worth a try!
google avatar

Irene N.

Yelp
Stopped by for morning coffee. Great spot and so unique. Coffee was rich and luxurious. Want to go by for the nightlife they have there.
google avatar

Lucho V.

Yelp
We were having dinner across the street when we heard good music. We decided to go inside. Small place with a dark intimate setting. Perfect for a date night and drinks. The Dj was playing good house music. The drinks were well made and fairly priced. We didn't try any of their food. My only gripe is that the restrooms could use some elbow grease. Lots of dust and debri. They didn't have any toilet seat covers. I find that very important considering covid and so on. Also their windows could use some windex. Hard to see outside through the mud streaks. Will I come again? Yeah I'll give them another chance.

Yelp
Made a reservation...stood in line for 20 minutes....told by the one employee there that nobody told him about a reservation. Showed him the email confirmation, employee said he knew nothing about it...no apologies...no solutions offered...so we left.
google avatar

Bokyoung Y.

Yelp
A cute bar near fashion district! Bartenders are nice, drinks were delicious with enough alcoholic!!! I will come back to try some food and more happy hour drinks
google avatar

Dianna G.

Yelp
Bring all the girls and the dance shoes! The Pattern bar has been booking the best dis for dance music. The bouncer in the front Omar has a great attitude and the energy his gives when you first walk in is much needed to get the night started. Don't sleep on the house Mezcal (Los Javi's)!

Beth P.

Yelp
They have a link for reservations on the website. We even had email confirmation of our reservation. When we arrived they told us they do not take reservations. They only had 2 people working and we waited 15 minutes just to ask about our reservation. Very disappointing. We left and found another restaurant nearby. Horrible customer service.
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place on our way to the Ace Theatre. Happy hour is from 4-8 and a great deal for the location. We had potato tacos, crispy warm with lots of cheddar and a savory tomato based salsa. Sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and quick to take our order. Time is of essence when you are pressed with a showtime. Drinks were well crafted, old fashion and purple haze complimented the experience. It did have a club feel since they had house music bumping. I would definitely stop by again while I'm in the area.
google avatar

Kandece B.

Yelp
This bar is a swanky little establishment with fun decor, laid back aesthetic and pleasant staff. They were pretty busy before the covid incident emerged but it will prevail again. I enjoyed my conversation with the owner and his suggestion of the menu items. Ive been here a few times so my mind is collectively giving you the experience. The chicken tacos were good, the pastrami tacos did not need cheese and the chicken quesadilla could've used a dash more seasoning but all in all it was a snack for happy hour It is located on a busy corner with no parking but there are places within walking distance. It is right off the dash stop on spring street. Go visit and see what items they have added

Yelp
I love pattern bar, definitely my go to spot as an LA native. It has the best beats and the vibes are immaculate. I love how awesome the security is to Omar always make sure to keep things running smoothly and keeps us safe. As a women in LA that is so important. The best house bar in LA

Yaroslav T.

Yelp
SCAMMERS!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I walked out without closing my tab and they tacked on four extra drinks plus a ridiculously high tip. What should have been an $11 charge became a $44 charge. That's a 400% increase! They have no morals and will use any opportunity to screw you over. DO NOT TRUST!!! Not to mention the music had terrible audio quality due to bad speakers and glass walls.
google avatar

Rhys P.

Yelp
I don't write many reviews. This places deserves it. Incredible service, amazing food and drink. I shall definitely be coming back again. The Chips and Salsa were unbelievable! Never have I tasted such a fresh, flavourful combination. Wings are tasty to

Katya S.

Yelp
Best espresso martini I ever had, thumbs up to Luis the bartender. It was great! Also the chips and salsa and guacamole was delicious!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Everyone who works there seemed really nice, but I still don't think I would recommend it. Multiple people working there had no idea what the happy hour hours were, even though there was a sign posted out front. There was a DJ playing terrible music at a volume so loud that even the DJ had earplugs on, because they knew it was just too much - and it was still early, and the place was near empty! I wish everybody here well, but... I would pass on this one.
google avatar

Toby M.

Yelp
Quite possibly the dirtiest place I've ever been. There's inches of dust on the fans (hope they never use them), flies in the drink garnish (close your citrus containers), and sticky crap all over the bar. In top of this, the bartender was beyond awful unless you're a 20-something cutie... he's cute, but that ain't gonna cut it forever. Do yourself a favor and keep walking
google avatar

Shirley W.

Yelp
This was one of the last place I've been to, in the formerly known world. It was dimly lit, with soft music, a standard speakeasy bar and restaurant. Now come to think of it, we are all too spoiled with selections. There are 100 bars within a 3 mile radius, each with unique flavor and taste. I would take anyone today, because in reality, none of them is bad. I remember the days of wandering, on random streets, revolving doors, and neon lights. When is downtown going to fully reopen? Would the Pattern Bar survive the pandemic? I hope they do, because they've earned it.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
Nice staff missing menu items ( yes I know global supply chain issues but tortillas issues ) Drinks are super watery and just we'll simply put not flavorful. Maybe they'll get better and pickup steam given time but I won't be back to give them that chance. ‍

Yelp
First bar I've been to in three months! We came in here last Thursday, and saw four other groups of socially-distant people hanging out. The bartenders and servers all had masks on, and the menus were taped to the bar/wall so you don't have to handle them. On Thursday their specials were mezcal cocktails with cheeky quarantine puns. I ordered the "quarantine and chill," which was fruity and a bit refreshing. My housemate ordered whatever was above my drink on the list, and hadn't read the entire list of ingredients...which included habanero! That didn't work for her so she switched with our friend, who had just ordered a whiskey. We stayed for quite a while and only ordered one drink, and the bartenders were all pretty patient with us as we all headed to the bathrooms before leaving. This probably would have been a five star experience if the restroom wasn't so grungy! There was no toilet paper or soap! In normal times I'd be annoyed with this, but we're in a pandemic my friends. Check your restroom more regularly!

Yelp
Stumbled across this place while waiting for an event to start. The place had a great vibe from the start, and Omar made the place so welcoming from the moment he greeted us. Killer drinks, live DJ set, and a ton of seating. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been here a few times and the service is great, I would highly recommend! specifically the security Omar was very kind and inviting and he made me feel safe :)

Yelp
I come here generally for the Soul Source LA which is basically every third Sunday evening. AMBIANCE: Parking: Generally all street parking with different time limits and charges. There's also charged lot parking that can range from $5-10. Seating: Room for about 50-60 people. There's about a total of 5 tables that can seat 6 people with bar seating for about 10. Feels: You're in the downtown area but not exactly the heart of it. There are some eateries nearby the area as well. The bar itself has a classy yet vintage feel. Pretty spacious for the most part and I do dig the the DJs with the beats. Great place to hang out an vibe. FOOD: To Be Continued - I always plan on getting something but I end up dancing. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Bouncers were friendly and servers were kind. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Good vibes and great music. Good place for dancers to get down or even just watch them do their thing. The rating may be a little incomplete since I haven't really had the drinks and food but for the most part. I'm vibing it. TIPS: * They got THC drinks

Yelp
Mike rocks ! Friendly fast and just the best !! Music was great drinks on point my first time here and loved it

Chuck T.

Yelp
Was in downtown Los Angeles, looked up this place this afternoon stopped by for a couple of beers and some tacos with some friends. The DJ was going off and the place was crowded. Highly recommended, definitely coming back
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
Lets see. First of all, the place is filthy. The fixtures (fans, etc) are caked with dust, there are flies buzzing around the wide open containers of sliced citrus, and the bar is sticky. The drinks were fine. Nothing too great but not bad. The bartender, don't know his name because he isn't interested in being social, didn't ask if we needed anything nor did he ask if I would like another cocktail after finishing my first. He was interested in the young ladies who came into the bar though. The food-eh. Not worth coming back for. Please clean your bar.

Yelp
I was in the mood to try new spots for lunch and invited a work bro to check out Pattern Bar with me. It was crazy that I have never noticed this place before even though I walked pass by it all the time. It was pretty empty during lunchtime when we got there. The server was nice and the drink menu looked good. Sadly drinking during lunch was not allowed at work for us. Maybe back for happy hour? The food menu was cafe style and nothing major stood out. I went with carb on carb and ordered cheese truffle macaroni and pesto margherita flatbread pizza. Cheese and truffle macaroni was topped with bacon, parmesan, and truffle oil. I had certain taste in my head when I read the menu, but to me it was unfortunate bland and tasteless even with bacon on top. I wish more truffle oil was used because I could barely smell the truffle. It really wasn't something I cared for after I tried it. Pesto margherita flatbread had pesto base, topped with mozzarella cheese and tomato on garlic flatbread. No basil anywhere like the menu described. It didn't taste bad, but for the price I paid, it was in a weird shape about the size of my hand, so not worth it. Overall I was full, but far from satisfied. I may come back again for drinks, but food wise? Way too many other choices around.

Yelp
Omar thank you for a wonderful experience at Pattern Bar. Excellent service! I will be back for sure. Thank you!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place and fell in love with it, great food, music, and drinks! Go to the happy hour, it's awesome. An awesome intimate setting with great bartenders

Jessica V.

Yelp
First time here and it did not disappoint! Staff was so cool and friendly, front door man was a sweetheart. DJ playing great music and everyone on the dance floor were beyond fun to dance around. I've never felt so welcomed in a dance environment like that.
google avatar

Claudine V.

Yelp
Came here for a drink to to attend our friend sponsored event. Good music. Mix crowd. No cover. Last night techno / house was playing. Booth against the wall and long communal table in the back. Drinks were okay. This resto turns into bar st night I guess. We just came here for drink and to show up for an hour. Could see it getting crowded as night goes on.
google avatar

Cheyenne G.

Yelp
Came here (evening time) on a Saturday because my friend was DJing. It's a clean, cute, and small bar with a few tables. It wasn't packed when we were there, the drinks are really good, unfortunately we went somewhere after to eat to continue the night so I can't comment on the food, but based on the menu it sounded really good with a pretty good variety including Mexican street corn, ceviche, loaded nachos etc.
google avatar

Kenzie W.

Yelp
I live down the street from here and am new to the area. This review is solely for security. He is the nicest guy always. He always has something sweet to say when you get there...always wishes you well and a good night when you leave. Just want to squish him! Mind you he is like 6 ft and 280 pounds but seriously he adds to this experience. The standard for security in LA is so low they are nearly always asshats so it's refreshing to have such a nice first and last impression at a nightclub/bar establishment.
google avatar

Sayuri B.

Yelp
Amazing tacos good hospitality come here if you are on trying to have a good time and eat some good food. Tequila and mezcal are original af and the waiters are super good they treat you like family I 100% would recommend this place the tacos are bomb af and all the food is made fresh.
google avatar

Cassandra B.

Yelp
Great service, amazing food, and Omar the bouncer is SUPER sweet! Gave us recommendations on what to drink to start the night on and is very welcoming! (:
google avatar

Ted S.

Yelp
Stopped here before a show, and really glad I did. Overall drinks and appetizers were very good, and a great value. The ambience was also something I would go back for. Good spot for people watching, and very friendly, professional service. Hummus: More on the grainy side, rather that all tahini and creamy. Very nice and light. Porco Panini: My favorite thing. Quite savory and delicious. Mac N Cheese with bacon: A good mac made better with that smokey bacon. Bruschetta: Pretty standard, with a nice acid complement. Ceviche: Bay shrimp based, and not bad, but those round store chips have to go. Hendrick's Gin and Tonic: This was just really, really good. Nice and strong, crisp tonic, and the reason I didn't want to try anything else. Best gin and tonic I can recall. The other drinks were all enjoyed by my party, most opting for creative, artisinal concoctions.
google avatar

Andrea D.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, service was good the only thing was it was Halloween weekend and you'd think they be stocked on everything. Nope they substitute my liquor for something else and boy let's just say if liquor could put hair on your chest it would have that night for me.
