"The newest addition to the Durham Food Hall, Patty Boy serves up messy and delicious smash burgers, perfectly fried tots, and a fresh dose of nostalgia. There are kids’ meals (but for grownups), chicken tenders, and more dipping sauces than you can shake a stick at." - Matt Lardie

Visited March 15, 2025 Decided to try Patty Boy for the first time during lunch with my mom. It was a pretty busy Saturday at the food hall, but we were able to go right up to the counter and order . I got the fried pickle burger and my mom the deluxe veggie burger. After making our purchase we waited about 10 minutes before the order was ready. The burgers were okay but nothing to rave about. Both burgers we cooked pretty well but we both felt that the burgers were lacking in flavor. The suaces are what brought everything together. However, a good burger should be able to hold its own without the extra toppings. My burger got a little messy at the end because I had more burger and toppings than bun. Lastly, we noticed that they upcharge for everything. Upcharge for sauces, meats for the salad, or substitutions. Sometimes that can be a deterrent. Overall it was okay, but can’t say it would be my go to burger joint.

I’ve been to patty boy a couple of times and usually the burgers are pretty good. However, my last visit was a little disappointing. I placed an order for 2 burgers and when I received them, the bun was completely saturated with grease. Had to use multiple napkins to absorb the puddle of grease that was on the wrapper. There was so much that I could not finish it. I will more than likely not go back here since there are plenty of better burgers places in this area.

Such a great burger! Perfect ratio of sauce and cheese and tangy pickle. Music in the food hall was a little loud- but patty boy was excellent

Google
Excellent chicken sandwich. I had the BLT version. The burgers looked amazing, next time I’m getting a smash burger.

My kids and I really enjoyed Patty Boy. This is our new favorite burger spot. Everything from ordering and the food was very pleasant. With all the other vendors located in the same spot it can be easy to be indecisive. Let me make it easy on you, go to Patty Boy.

The Burger was actually great. Tasted way better than I expected. The burgers was well seasoned as were the tater tots. Would reccomend. It's inside the durham food hall.

Google
The Veggie Burger is made from pea protein so kudos for that (I hate the veggie mush ones). Overall my burger was delicious although the onions were really stringy and tough, making it quite an unpleasant experience every time I bite into it. All in all, it's a delicious veggie burger.

Google
Legit 5/5, way better than I was expecting! This is my first time having PattyBoy and my first impulses I was ordering was to be bummed that they don’t have fries only tater tots. These are not your school cafeteria tater tots, I got the Buffalo ranch scallions, and they were absolutely bangin! As for the burger… The bun is a great texture, and that patties were delicious, but I would recommend cooking the baking about 20% less so it is too dry and crumbly, and toasting the buns more to get that in-n-out type crisp, because I know they toasted the bun, but it didn’t seem toasted at all. Overall, was great and will recommend to others!

Yelp
The food was equally aesthetically pleasing and delicious! The price was a tad high for a veggie burger with lettuce and tomato ($18) only and no sides. The Durham food hall has a non compete so I had to get a side from another vendor. Nonetheless, I would return with an Offline credit. The BLT looked good. My friend enjoyed her burger and tots.

Yelp
Great burger, bad economics. Burger is an excellent smash burger but I just have a note on pricing. I can't recall having seen a "make it a combo" offer where the combo features are 50% of the value of the burger ($6 surcharge to make a combo out of a base $12 burger). This makes more sense when you realize that tots are $5 and a fountain soda is an outrageous $4 (i.e., $9 for a small serving of tots and a medium soda outside of the sanctity of the combo!!!). I guess I'm supposed to be grateful for this break? Oh well, this is the world we live in. The general priciness is more insulting when you realize how they nickel and dime you for everything else (saw the price of my burger change down 60 cents to reflect the fact that I removed pickles but then go back up 65 cents for my ranch with the tots [an aside on the ranch, I was told the tots come with ketchup and that I could "add" a sauce but when I "added" ranch the tots came with no ketchup {not that I wanted the ketchup, just another instance of radical cost cutting}]). Clearly they are aware of costs--so the steep combo offer is a fully conscious feature of the menu. Again: great burger, preparation with the onions is a very additive touch but the economics are just out of wack. With abusive margins on fountain soda like these I have to speculate if private equity is involved.

Yelp
After walking around for a few minutes at the Durham Food Hall, I decided on Patty Boy. The gentleman who helped me was very nice and understanding and worked with me to order the chicken tender meal. The meal originally came with three chicken tenders, slaw, tater tots, and Texas toast. Instead of the Texas toast, I got another slaw. The gentleman told me how the batter for the chicken was made in house daily, so I was so excited! This excitement ended when I saw and tasted the chicken tenders. They were super small and dry, and the batter had no flavor. I thought the saving grace would be the slaw, but this again had no flavor. Surprisingly, it was the tater tots that saved the day, but you can only eat so many. Well, I will have to pass on eating here again--I've had better chicken tenders at Chili's. Three stars for the customer service.

Yelp
Wanted a burger with only 2 toppings. They said I could get plain and add my on ketchup ( which I did not want) or I'd have to take their special blend of a bunch of different sauces. Uh, no thanks! I guess you can't have it " your way" here.

Yelp
Best burger in NC without a doubt. So very good. Fantastic all the way around. Can't miss spot

Yelp
Yesterday I enjoyed (maybe?!) the best burger of my life at this place... It was a double smash burger with bacon & blue cheese (add pickle) plus perfectly seasoned crispy tots and a Coke Zero (watching my figure). I honestly don't know how it could've have been better (well- except if I hadn't spent $25 w/ tip)

Yelp
Burgers were great, but the fried chicken was the surprise star. Not cheap, but the quality was there to justify the price. You can tell these folks do it all from scratch.
