Yelp
This was my first poke meal in Hawaii and, boy, did it set the bar high for all the other poke I was going to eat during my Hawaii trip. Another place in Kona that meets the expectations of 5-stars on Yelp.
By the time my friends and I got there, it was in the afternoon, so there weren't that many choices left. Luckily, as a salmon lover, there was some salmon left.
They have a simple ordering menu for their poke bowls.
#1 Hapaha - $15.99 - 1 scoop rice + 1 scoop poke + 2 sides
#2 Hapalua - $20.99 - 2 scoop rice + 2 scoop poke + 2 sides
Omg, every bite was so delicious and fresh. Perfectly seasoned and fish is so fresh in Hawaii. Such great quality. Back home in NJ, our poke bowls are tiny diced fish pieces or mushy pieces that are over-sauced and overpowered with so many other toppings.
And the abalone was good, so flavorful and tender. A great way to try abalone for the first time. Tastes like clam.
They had so many sides to choose from. I'll share the sides in my pictures section. You'll probably have to zoom in because of the reflections.
And, they are so nice and patient there, and, so helpful, too, as you stand there confused and overwhelmed at wanting everything.
If you like poke or want to have good poke for your very first time and you are in the area, this place is a must. And, if you don't want to have the fish, there are the many sides to try.
Ugh, I wish I lived nearby so that I could go here whenever I want. If I'm ever back in Kona, I am definitely stopping by here!
FYI:
-It is a purely "order and go" place. There are some seats outside, but limited.
-The place is small, so you probably have to wait outside if the line gets long, which we had to do.
-Oh! You can ask them for a taste.
-They ask you if you want furikake on your rice, which is kind of like the EBTB seasoning but Japanese style with a mixture of seaweed, sesame seeds, fish, fish flavored flakes, sugar, salt, and various seasonings.
-BTW, lomi lomi salmon is salted salmon, tomatoes, onions, and green onion, but seems like the majority of the dish is tomatoes.
