Why America Could Overlook Paula Deen’s Racism | Eater

"A branded franchise of family-style restaurants launched amid the proprietor’s ongoing commercial reinvention, marketed as serving classic, comfort-oriented Southern recipes tied to her public persona. The chain is part of a broader post-controversy business strategy—including a subscription streaming network, cookware and clothing lines, tours, and reissued cookbooks—that preserved significant revenue, even as critics argue the branding promotes a nostalgic, sanitized vision of Southern food that sidelines Black culinary history and authentic regional traditions." - Lauren Michele Jackson

Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen Has Butter-Sopped Plans for Nashville’s Opry Mills | Eater Nashville

"I note that the chain's first outpost opened in 2014 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee—a stone's throw from Dolly Parton's Dollywood—and that it launched a year after Deen was embroiled in scandal over a history of racism; the Family Kitchen locations are more casual and decidedly more commercial than The Lady & Sons, though a number of dishes (fried green tomatoes, biscuits, fried chicken) are similar to those at her Savannah restaurant." - Delia Jo Ramsey

Google
Was shocked to find out that everything on the menu was all you can eat. It definitely let us try more options than anticipated, but all the food was very fattening and greasy. It was wonderful at first, especially with the appetizer biscuits, but it got tough to eat fast. Definitely fun and worth it one time, don't think I'll be going back any time soon however. Fun little gift shop downstairs!

Google
I love Paula Deen! I love her recipes! I love her products. This restaurant gas it all. The food is served family style with your choices of dishes. It was fantastic. Service was impeccable. The building was spotless. The food was the best we had on the trip. Plan time to shop! You must smell every candle. They are the best candles we had ever smelled! This was the best meal of our trip!

Google
The food alone would not bring me back, but the whole experience is what makes it a repeat! Dont get wrong, the food was good, but just your average food. It is served home style which is a nice way to get a little of everything verses what's usually just brought out on your plate. Being just my husband and myself, the basic pick plan was more then enough food with leftovers to spare. Your adventure starts when you arrive and check in (if you made a reservation). In the meantime the whole entrance floor is a store featuring many Paul Deen exclusive merchandise and great props for photo opportunities. When received a text after 10 minutes letting us know to make our way to the host stand. From there you are taken upstairs to the open dinning area. The view was great!! In this location you're overlooking the island and the famous Faris wheel. Made you feel like you were in the space needle in a sorta way. Our waiter was fast, and very friendly. We found ourselves chatting with other tables and comparing what dishes we each had tried. I would recommend, was had a great time. Thank you to all the staff and hopefully next time we're in town we'll see y'all again!

Google
Excellent food, and service! We went on a busy Sunday, and waited an hour. I'm not complaining, because we passed time on the Island until they texted when our table was ready. The gift shop was very nice, and affordable. The food was incredible! We ordered the 3 meal family dinner and had enough that we couldn't finish it all. We drank blueberry and strawberry lemonade that was so refreshing. The inside was nice and clean. We had a beautiful view of the island from the big windows, while sitting on the second floor. The only complaint I have is the restrooms are downstairs, and very small! So be sure to use the bathroom before being seated, otherwise you will have to take a trip back down the escalator.

This was our second time eating here and enjoyed it just as much. It was fairly busy so I recommend making a reservation. It was a little slow once we were seated to see our server, but after that the drinks and food were quick to arrive. Food is bottomless. We got the fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, and fried fish. For our sides, we chose the creamed corn, green beans, Mac n cheese, and creamed potatoes. For me the highlights were the fried fish and green beans. Would return again!

Google
Went here by myself for dinner and it was a 30 minute wait. My waiter, Stephen, was friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the Albany, which is 2 main courses and 4 side dishes. I loved all the dishes: baked mac & cheese, meatloaf, chicken & dumplings, candied yams and poppyseed salad. I understand the theme here is family style eating but I was disappointed they don’t have to go boxes. About half the meal was wasted because I couldn’t take it to go. I also just realized I never got my broccoli casserole. 😆

Taslimm Q

Google
The fish was good the chicken was ok. The quantity of food they serve even for one person is quite a lot. Although the taste could improve a bit, the cream corn was nice and the okra the rice could change to the mac and cheese. The lemonade was quite sweet, but the caramel cake was nice though.

Connie C.

Google
Just 2 of us so we got right in, but NOTE TO LARGE PARTY: everyone in your party needs to be there to be seated. (overheard lady in front of me negotiating with the desk how many have to be there to get seated now). Menu is "family style", serving a generous per person portion, and you can get "refills" (but you can't take home your refills). Beautiful views of the fountain and amusement rides. Well staffed, quick and clean bussing of tables to get next party seated.

Yelp
Food was all country style coming. Most everything we ate was really good and you can expect some flavor in it all. Service was ok. Not impressed sauce had to ask for stuff a few times repeatedly. Ambiance was all very nice and gift shop downstairs always fun to walk through. Was going to buy a few things from gift shop but was such a slow process I put the stuff down and just left.

Yelp
Southern family style dinner The issues with this place are 1. You make a rezzy 3 days ahead of time for 5:30 & you get there at 5:25 & they say we'll let you know when table is ready, so you wait until 6:00 for the text. Then they shuffle you upstairs where you stand in the dining area (crammed in with 40 of your closest friends) for another 20 minutes B4 they seat you. 2. It's not really all you can eat when the waitress tells you that you get 3 rounds of food & you have to choose upfront which items you want with no switching as you go. Oh & the serving bowls get smaller with each round. The food They brought out 5 biscuits that tasted almost exactly like red lobster but maybe a little better- probably too much butter on them though. Fried chicken was really good Country fried steak was ok Breaded fish was ok - mushy Chicken & dumplings was not good at all no flavor & the texture was bad. The sides The poppyseed salad was good & a good size portion- we only had 1 bowl Mac n cheese was good- but too small for 5 people, I got 2 spoons fulls out of each of the 3 rounds as it shrunk each time. Mashed potatoes were good- we had 2 rounds Cream corn was the best thing we had- 3 rounds. You have no idea what anything will cost as you're ordering So 4 diff dinners & 4 sides with sweet teas & 1 beer was $200 B4 tip

Yelp
This restaurant was surprisingly DELICIOUS! We thought it was going to be some tourist trap that was overly priced for sub-par food. It wasn't. It was so good - I've told other people they need to check it out. First, our waitress was so friendly and nice. She walked us through how the menu and service worked. It was all you can eat with your choices of family-style food. It was so, so good. We had friend chicken, Mac and cheese, broccoli casserole, chicken and dumplings, and the salad. All of it was good, but I was surprised how much I liked the broccoli casserole and salad. I want to go back just writing this. It was a really fun, lively restaurant with a great view with the large window. Don't hesitate coming here thinking you're being sucked into a tourist trap - it's delicious and a good value!

Yelp
We actually went here twice on our week long trip to Pigeon Forge. Everything about this place was outstanding. The dining room was spotless, with a great view of the island. The service was outstanding, super friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We thought it would be okay, especially given some of the mixed reviews. One key tip if you prefer white meat let your server know. Our first trip we kept getting thighs and we finally asked if we could get some white meat and she said sure let me put it in for you. Second trip we asked for white meat from the start and that was all we got which was great. Another tip, make a reservation via their website. Final tip, the lunch and dinner menu is the same, it is just $5 cheaper for lunch. If you go to the Island and you like fried chicken you must eat here!

Yelp
I thought this restaurant was pretty good. We ordered 3 mains (fried chicken, fried fish, and spare ribs) and 4 sides (creamed corn, green beans, buttered white rice, and broccoli). Overall I thought the food was above average with the exception to the corn... thought it was a bit too sweet. Would def recommend the cat fish and the fried chicken. The broccoli was probably my favorite side

Yelp
We went there for dinner on Christmas eve, party of four. Wait time was reasonable, around half hour and we were seated after another 10 minutes. Our server I believe her name is Nicole, was good, explained us everything, that dinner is served everything at once and if we need additional ingrediencies she will bring what ever we are missing ,asked only for more bread and pork which she brought in a timely manner. Now problem started- that additional pork only two of us eat and both got very bad stomach cramps and as you could imagine couple of hours later both got very bad diarrhea which lasted long time, stomach is feeling still upset 3 days after, I was barely able to drive back to Chicago same day !!! I will never go back to same place, that's my personal experience, hopefully no others had something similar.

Yelp
We've been to one other Paula Deen restaurant before though I can't remember where. It's very comfortable, homey and great vibes. Anyway, great food and I love the whole family meal thing but... We got a 3 person family meal; fish, country fried steak and help me I can't remember the third haha Sides we got creamed corn, creamed potatoes, yams and broccoli casserole. The creamed corn was so sweet and delicious. The creamed potatoes could use some flavor and the yams were just okay for me. Also the broccoli casserole could've been warmed up a bit. The service was great and all nothing was wrong BUT here's the but from above haha the whole "no take home leftovers" yet you can take home a dessert... ya I don't agree with that at all. "Well it's because it's a "buffet"" ya mhm is it though? In a buffet you put as much as you can eat onto your plate and here the portions are chosen for you. THAT is NOT a buffet. So ya'll are wasting a LOT of food 'cause honestly that's a lot of food to practically be forced to eat or else it's all just thrown out. Ya y'all just throw all that food away. That is just wasteful and disrespectful to those who don't have food. In my religion we have a holiday to show respect to those who have no food by NOT being WASTEFUL of our food. So y'all should really change that and allow for left overs to be taken home. For that reason we will NOT be back. Do better Paula!

Yelp
We've been here a few times and the food is always good, but this mornings breakfast was lackluster when it came to Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles. The menu said smothered in sauce and we got chicken tenders and thin crepe like waffles. Nashville hot, where we are from, is a hot honey sauce. There was no sauce, no glaze, no spicy batter. Just chicken tenders. They were good chicken tenders, but we were sorely disappointed that the chicken was just chicken. The bacon was spicier than the plain chicken tenders. The server, as good as he was, said that's how it is supposed to be, but alas, we just dealt with it. It wasn't worth causing a fuss. The rest of the food was good. I'm a big fan of the cinnamon roll before breakfast. That was changed to buttery biscuits. Good, but could use a good ole gravy with it. That's the southern way. I'll probably stick to lunch given today's experience, but I'll also try it again to give breakfast a redeeming try. Maybe the hot honey will actually have the glaze?

Yelp
I ordered the chicken fried steak and thought they brought the wrong dish -- it was a round fried disk cut in half with a bit of salty instant gravy at the bottom of the bowl. The mac and cheese was completely flavorless, and everything tasted like under-seasoned cafeteria food. I asked if there was anything they could bring my husband (who can't eat cheese), and the only bread option -- the biscuits -- had cheese baked in. The server just shrugged and offered nothing else. Even a simple muffin or slice of bread would've been a nice gesture. Overall, bland food, no effort, and not worth the money.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
The only good part was the biscuits they brought to start the meal. Unfortunately, this doesn't fit Paula's reputation of good southern food or hospitality. We went for breakfast... from the presentation to the food, everything needs to be improved. No refills but quick to get check...

Yelp
Walking into Paula Deen's Family Kitchen at The Island in TN is like visiting a much larger (IMO much nicer), less crowded Cracker Barrel (no offense, CB fans! I love them too!) The first floor is the Paula Deen's Store, where you can find a variety of different home goods, special jarred, bottled and canned goods, as well as clothing. Take the escalator/elevator to the second floor for restaurant seating. Menu is family style; you can choose 3, 4 and 5 main entrees with a couple sides. I highly recommend the Fried Chicken, Candied Yams and Broccoli Casserole. For dessert, you can't go wrong with any option but the Banana Pudding was my favorite. Service was amazing. We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. Deandra was on top of her game with various check ins, drink refills, and making sure our food was out quickly. Five stars for stellar service and a top-notch family dinning experience.

Stacy C.

Yelp
Things move a little fast inside. If you're looking for a casual sitdown experience for dinner this provides that just had a slightly faster pace. I don't blame them. The island is extremely busy. This restaurant is extremely busy, but the food is good. The service is good and you will have a good experience overall.
google avatar

Sa-kiera H.

Yelp
I can't fully complain about the food bc of the price point. Granted I'm used to California prices but 23 bucks per person for unlimited refills of the same 4 entrees and 4 sides that you choose, plus a dessert just can't be beat. We got the fried chicken, the beef roast, the spare ribs, and the catfish. The fish wasn't anything special (but cooked well). The friend chicken didn't have seasoning but was cooked perfectly, which ended up being fine to me bc I add hot sauce to fried chicken anyway. The spare ribs were surprisingly tasty as was the pot roast (too salty but great flavor). The sides were got were the Mac and cheese, fried okra, collard greens, and the mashed potatoes. The best side dish were the collards, by far. Super good! I also enjoyed the fried okra; not greasy at all. The overall ambiance is like Cracker Barrel, ha! She sells things on the first floor and the restaurant is on the second floor. It's nicely accessible as there aren't stairs but an escalator and an elevator so everyone can make it to the restaurant. There are ramps too. Our server, Dillion, was nice and attentive. Brought me out a new coke "just in case" and I appreciated his readiness. Would I go back? Probably and only get the things I know I like. Great value for families!
google avatar

Valerie G.

Yelp
Everything is served family style! So make sure you go with people you like . The service was amazing, even with them being busy. The food was chefs kiss. We didn't have anything we didn't like. You can't take any food to go, other than the dessert that's included with the meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Ate Christmas dinner there, we woke up the next morning sick. The food wasnt in temperature. The staff was a little rude. I understand it was Christmas no one wants to work on Christmas but serving food that is not up to temperature is a hazard.
google avatar

Kailee N.

Yelp
This was a wonderful experience. The food was so yummy especially the corn dish. The food was constantly coming out so when you finished a plate they would bring more. The cheddar biscuit was also amazing. The service was lovely and really enjoyed the location of the restaurant as it was near other Things.
google avatar

Yelp
Save your money and RUN!! 64$ spent and the food reminded me of being in a nursing home. It was bland, and underwhelming. Also- they have a NO TAKEHOME leftovers policy- only for desserts you can. We got the 24.99 per person which came with 2 main dishes ( chicken fried steak, and meatloaf) and 4 sides. The only thing that was good were the biscuits they give you when you sit down. The tangy sauce on the meatloaf was good. The views were nice , restaurant clean- but I can't even believe I spent 74$ with the tip. Instant regret. If you've ever seen that scene in Vegas Vacation where they go to that cheap buffet and the guy slops the food on his plate, that's what the food reminded me of haha. Never again Paula Deen! Could've used that money to do Anakeesta!!

Christy L.

Yelp
We came here for Christmas dinner a party of eight. We all left hours later to have salmonella.. there must be a serious problem with food managing temperature, and handling. This is Not how we anticipated spending our Christmas evening and after. We will not be back, some of our party was their first time. Pretty sad experience!!
google avatar

Ty S.

Yelp
We have been here before awhile back. We did breakfast and ordered the Nashville hot chicken and waffles, apple cinnamon French toast, millionaire bacon, cheese grits, and the cheesy hash browns. Everything was delicious except the Nashville hot chicken. As you can see in my pictures it came out as just fried chicken strips. It states that it is smothered in a signature hot sauce. We asked the waiter to check to see if they forgot to add the sauce but he came back saying the cooks stated that is the way they come. Being from right outside Nashville this was not Nashville Hot Chicken. The restaurant was clean and the waiters were very polite. We will continue to come to this place but very disappointed with the chicken.
google avatar

Connie S.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the service impeccable but my big problem was the leftovers. We only ordered what we thought we could eat; nonetheless, there were still leftover and they wouldn't let us take them with us. In this day and age prices are outrageous and they were no different here. $95 for 2 ppl with tip. There wasn't a ton of food left but there was some. I just think it's very wasteful for them to prefer trashing it as opposed to giving us a couple boxes to bring it with us.
google avatar

Erwin M.

Yelp
I can't believe I got sucked into this tourist trap. The atmosphere was a little better than a Golden Corral. The food was horrible. In fact, Golden Corral has better food. The service waiter and manager were fair. After I complained about the quality of the food, she offered a 50% discount. Hence the 2 stars instead of one. Not recommended!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best tasting food I've ever experienced. Friendly service and great portions. Looking forward to experiencing Paula Deen's in the future.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food, excellent service, would definitely recommend a visit!! The chocolate and vanilla butter cakes were also very good!
google avatar

Sean L.

Yelp
We absolutely LOVED this place. The food is served "family style" a term we hadn't yet heard before. Which sounds silly now. But basically you pick items off a list, and they bring out portions in bowls that you then use a fresh utensil to scoop onto your own plate and eat with your utensils to eat. Then after that you order more. This is all you can eat and includes at a price per person rate. So eat it up!! The service is excellent and they make sure you always have food. Now the setup of the restaurant I found to be a little weird. Gift shop downstairs, dining room upstairs. Bathrooms back downstairs. (Yes there's and elevator). Now after ALL of that, don't forget you have dessert coming and please don't skip it. Even if you think you have no room left, figure it out. Thank me later.
google avatar

Chuck F.

Yelp
I have to say I was skeptical to try this place but I did. I want to say the food delivered we had the fried chicken and pork chop with collards, Mac and cheese, fried okra and mashed potatoes. Everything was very delicious and best fried chicken. This is on my list to visit again
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
The chicken and dumplings have very little chicken. The fried chicken pieces are so small! The breast, was the size of a small thigh. No ice cream available with cobbler. Free dessert is 2 bites worth, see pic. Money maker for Paula for sure.
google avatar

Alicia V.

Yelp
Waitress was great, food was SO delicious! Especially the fried chicken, creamed corn and candied yams. Yum!! We came late so seated right away.

Vineeta B.

Yelp
food was amazing! server was very friendly! we enjoyed the Mac and cheese, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, pork chop, okra, and the vanilla brownie!! everything was so filling! I wont be hungry for days!!! so worth the wait!

Yelp
Everything here is good, this was our third trip to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and our third time eating here. The Island is fun. Paula Deen's has great food, everything on her menus are good, and I love the take home your dessert for .99 cents.
google avatar

Maegan B.

Yelp
We came here while on vacation and had lunch. It was a Thursday and the wait was like 15 minutes which wasn't bad. We waited a while to get refills on food which was a little disappointing. The food was great though! The biscuits are just *chefs kiss*. We did fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, pork chops and roast. They were are really good! I cook really similar to this so it was really nice to have something cooked how I like it and not be the one cooking and cleaning lol. A few things I found a little salty but still good! We got the Mac and cheese (I was skeptical bc that's one of my specialties but it was pretty good for a restaurant), creamed corn (nobody really liked it), candied yams which were really good and broccoli casserole which was so so(I like mine better lol). The roast was good, fried chicken was really good (crispy and well seasoned), chicken and dumplings (our unexpected fav) and the pork chops (close second fav). The oeey gooey cake is always amazing (I make this too and I think hers is better). All in all, if you're in the area def go but go with a big appetite!
google avatar

Michele L.

Yelp
Wow! What can I say? Pigeon forge is so much fun. I needed to stop by Paula Deen's and it did not disappoint. First off it's clean and spacious. Got seated next to the windows and had a wonderful view of The Island. Our server, Sarah, was very sweet and there's nothing to complain about her. As a group of 3 we ordered the 3 dish package. We chose fried chicken, the ribs, and the chicken and dumplings. For our sides we picked Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and creamed corn. All were excellent. We were too stuffed to eat our dessert but they let us take that to go. We chose 2 ooey gooey butter cakes (it's probably one of my top 3 desserts ever so I knew I needed to try Paula's) and the cobbler of the day was peach. I'm sad that I didn't get a lot of the topping but it was so good. And the butter cake was epic. Very satisfied with this meal here.

Yelp
Fantastic food & service! Best meal we have had in a long time. Pot roast, fried Chicken, chicken & dumplings. Great deal on family style lunch

Jalene F.

Yelp
Had an absolute awful experience. We had to wait 20 minutes before a server even acknowledged us. Unfortunately shortly after being seated my husband became ill. Not wanting to disappoint me, I'd been so excited for this meal, he wasn't telling me how bad he was. I mentioned to my server that he wasn't feeling well and asked if I could get him meal to go. By this time, my husband was visibly ill. The server lacked compassion and said the only thing I could take home was dessert. Despite it being evident that my husband was ill, he didn't check in us. The food was sat down and I only got one bite before my husband was in emergency situation. I had to go into the kitchen and demand I be able to quickly pay my 70 bill for a meal I had one bite of before rushing my husband to the hospital. It was frustrating, scary and infuriating. Eating at a very empty restaurant with a man who was clearly in distress and still having to chase down my server has me angry as I write this review. I expected better of Paula Deen's restaurant.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
The staff was very attentive and polite. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and is well lit. As far as the food goes its not bad. My one disappointment was the "Nashville Hot" chicken and waffles. While the chicken was juicy and well cooked it was not nashville hot. Nashville hot chicken evokes the expectation of a sweet/hot sticky sauce coating the chicken. This was just regular fried chicken. No sauce or spice to be had. And the "waffles" were floppy and extremely thin.

Sadhan R.

Yelp
Bad food , my whole family get sick the day after the dinner in this disgusting place, is microwave food
google avatar

Wes A.

Yelp
So this place is not so bad , but the parking is! This nowhere the quality of Miss Deens! It's not even owned by her ! The staff is nice but some of our food came out cold! Back to the parking! It's about a half of a mile over the bridge! I was a little upset trying to make a 9:15 reservation! If it wasn't for the gracious female trolley driver, we wouldn't have made it! The food was very pedestrian! The menu is family style and confusing! The chicken fried steak was cold the first two times, but piping hot on the third time! This not a gourmet place! In fact most of the staff was on their phone! I We love our waitress! We didn't have the manager come to our table as some places do! The place was kinda vacant! Our view was good! Plenty of food!
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
We have made this a stop every time we visit the area. We can't find one thing to complain about and believe me, we are very picky. Service and quality of the food is awesome very clean and great view of the area outside.
google avatar

Taryn W.

Yelp
Not our first time at Paula's and there's a reason for that! Always a family staple! We like the family style and the 4 entree, 4 side option! We got fried chicken, pork chops, chicken and dumplings and meatloaf paired with green beans, broccoli casserole, creamy potatoes and mac and cheese. Everything was great except the broccoli casserole, total let down. Our waitress was quite slow. We split our party in 2 tables of 6 (one reservation at 545 and one at 615). Our 615 reservation had drinks, biscuits and food before our 545 had our drinks. Not sure if she was brand new or what but that was the only let down. Still worth the trip for us though! That ooey, gooey, butter cake hits every single time!
google avatar

Teresa G.

Yelp
We were able to make a reservation time of 6:45pm. We were not seated until over an hour later. There were a lot of unhappy customers waiting to be seated, being told 15 more minutes then maybe 1/2 an hour but then they started rudely saying you'll be seated when you're seated! We were wondering why there even reservations available! The food was not bad. Service was very good, felt sorry for the waiter! Kitchen was slow!

Yelp
We ordered from the lunch menu. The meatloaf was very dry. I ordered the chicken and dumplings. There was hardly any chicken and the gravy was runny, dumplings were just weird. More like a soup. It had no flavor. I had to send it back. Got fish instead. Also dry but at least palatable. The broccoli casserole was very good as well as the salad with poppyseed dressing. Not enough good to consider going back, ever. Sorry Paula. We were so excited to be there and left largely disappointed.

Yelp
Big disappointment. Food was served in very small portions, granted you could ask for more, but be prepared to wait another half hour. Country food has lots of good flavors, this food did not. Odd spices in the dumplins, didn't taste like dumplins at all. I was three other friends and none of cared for it. Service was slow and we felt like we were bothering him. On top of that, it is expensive for what you get. I could have paid half of what I paid for the meal (29.89 plus tip) and I still wouldn't have liked it. Lot's of good restaurants in Pigeon Forge, this just isn't one of them.

Yelp
This place was a 10/10. We came about 1 hour before closing and the food was fresh and delish. If you are looking for a family style restaurant then go here! We chose the 3 meats (friend chicken, fried fish, ribs) and 4 sides (mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and green beans). We also were given these cheddar biscuits that MELT in your mouth. The service was amazing! We loved our server. The entire table is buffet style, but the only rule is that you cannot take anything hope EXCEPT the dessert.

Yelp
It was a pretty slow night and there were no wait times which was nice. Straight to the table and our waiter was super nice and good at his job. Love those type of workers! Food was fast and hot. Really good food too. They kept bringing more are you ate. If you leave hungry it's your own fault. Sweet tea was made right. Hard to find really good sweet tea. It's a large place that can be loud at time but nothing crazy. Not take home food at all besides dessert if you get it to go. I had the banana pudding at it was great. I wish they did something with all the food that is wasted. They won't let you take it home but they also just throw it away. Doesn't make sense to me. Only reason why the 4 star.

Yelp
We had the best server! He packaged up our desserts because he thought we wanted them to-go, and when we told him we planned on eating them at the restaurant, he brought us new desserts! So we ate our desserts, and got to take some home for later! The food was delicious. Family style is always so filling, but it is worth it. The ooey gooey butter cake was my favorite (specifically the salted caramel). I need the recipe!!!

Yelp
Food: it appeared our food had been under heat lamps for a while before we arrived. Beef was salty. Mashed potatoes were runny. They were fully booked but under staffed. We had one waiter for a dining room of 90-100. We ended up bussing our own table so we could serve ourselves dessert.

Yelp
Come HUNGRY if you're doing the family style seating! We've been here a couple times for the family style seating, where you get to pick a few items and they'll bring more out to you. As much as you want! There's plenty to choose from but our favorite is the creamed corn, fried chicken, dumplings, and pot roast. To top it all off, getting some goey brownies for dessert. Luckily there's an escalator to get out of here and a shop to walk around in or else our bellies would burst! Even more so, where you park to walk into this mall-like area is pretty far away, so by the time you get to your car the butter is all worked off!

Yelp
The food was just ok. Couldn't ask for more because server would disappear. Service was terrible. The server had a very snippy attitude and not customer focused. Not sure what was going on with her that night but it was a real turn off.

Yelp
Listen Linda, OMG, this place is FABULISTIC !! Come hungry and bring your bib. Holy Guacamole !! The way their menu is set up is a win win for everyone involved, Earthing or Alien LOL !! Don't get me started on the Taste and flavors, Holy Bejesus !! From the catfish to the pot roast, and everything in between. AMAZEBALLS !! Found our go to here in Pigeon Forge. Our server Dedra was so welcoming and enthusiastic, she set the perfect ambiance for our meal. The restaurant is inviting and very clean. Highly Highly recommend.

Yelp
We met Paula after 15 years and she was terrific. We are sad knowing that we might never meet her again. The food at the buffet is good. The mains are hit and miss, but the Catfish is always great, as are the sides. Regarding breakfast, the chefs don't follow the recipes and leave out a lot of ingredients. Nevertheless, we met Paula Deen, and her hubby. Makes me want fried chicken. We bought her book and are making many of them. We met Paula Deen. We can't imagine a world without Paula Deen. God Bless you Paula Deen and all her supporting Staff!
