Why America Could Overlook Paula Deen’s Racism | Eater

"A branded franchise of family-style restaurants launched amid the proprietor’s ongoing commercial reinvention, marketed as serving classic, comfort-oriented Southern recipes tied to her public persona. The chain is part of a broader post-controversy business strategy—including a subscription streaming network, cookware and clothing lines, tours, and reissued cookbooks—that preserved significant revenue, even as critics argue the branding promotes a nostalgic, sanitized vision of Southern food that sidelines Black culinary history and authentic regional traditions." - Lauren Michele Jackson

Google
Unique dinning experience. You order for the table and get unlimited "refills" on each item. Delicious food; the starter garlic bread was crazy good. And don't get me started on how tasty the fried chicken was. Even the sweet tea was perfect. I recommend trying this spot out. Also, would also like to note the beautiful & clean atmosphere and welcoming staff, very mindful to those with a disability! 👍

Google
The atmosphere was lovely with elevated views of the Island square. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was meh. On par with mid range buffet quality. The biscuits were fluffy and out of this world, unfortunately the rest was disappointing. The pork chops looked steamed and soggy. The meatloaf was almost overly tender and the tomato glaze tasted like plain ketchup. Everything from greens, gravy, and okra were too salty. Great experience, but overall I would pass on eating at Paula Deen's again.

Google
This place was spectacular! The food was insane plus it was all you can eat. The whole family enjoyed it! I would recommend it if you're in the area and you want to get your belly full!

Google
Worth the visit. When you come my suggestion is come hungry. They allow you to choose your meal. Once you decide then you can have as much of those items as you like over and over. So it's an interesting experience and the food is delicious. Especially the biscuits!!

Google
Our server Laurel was fantastic! She was the highlight of our dining experience. No wait as we were seated quickly after going up stairs. We put in our choices and Laurel quickly brought us the cheese biscuits to start. The cheese biscuits were amazing but the other items, not so much. The meatloaf was ok, the pork chops and friend chicken were overly salty as was most of everything else. The sides were just side but the creamy potatoes were just as expected. It reminds me of cafeteria food but paying a premium for being a tourist town. If you are looking for great food, this place ain’t it. But the atmosphere and view is great though.

Google
Paula Deens family kitchen was nothing that bad, but pretty good. Fried chicken was just okay. Thought the chicken might of been a little bit better, but maybe that's just me. Chickens are little dinosaurs and it was dinosaurs fest on the island... maybe related. The rest of everything else was amazing. We ordered a couple of beers that our waitress forgot about. Sad. Ok Bye

Google
Every time I come to Tennessee this is a must stop for dinner. Our servers are always on point with customer service and the food is absolutely delicious and worth every dime. We enjoy shopping in the little home front store downstairs and the atmosphere and both areas is absolutely unbelievable!!

Google
We are so much food! Family style & unlimited. We got the Fried Chicken, Pot Roast, Creamed Corn, Creamed Potatoes, Mac & Cheese, and Broccoli Casserole. We loved it all. My son loved the desert, but mine is in the fridge for later. Service was excellent!

Yelp
I love this place and I went to the one in South Carolina as well. I don't know why people say it's nasty I thought it's good and better than golden coral. Golden coral was dirty and the food was horrible

Yelp
Not our first time at Paula's and there's a reason for that! Always a family staple! We like the family style and the 4 entree, 4 side option! We got fried chicken, pork chops, chicken and dumplings and meatloaf paired with green beans, broccoli casserole, creamy potatoes and mac and cheese. Everything was great except the broccoli casserole, total let down. Our waitress was quite slow. We split our party in 2 tables of 6 (one reservation at 545 and one at 615). Our 615 reservation had drinks, biscuits and food before our 545 had our drinks. Not sure if she was brand new or what but that was the only let down. Still worth the trip for us though! That ooey, gooey, butter cake hits every single time!

Yelp
We've been here a few times and the food is always good, but this mornings breakfast was lackluster when it came to Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles. The menu said smothered in sauce and we got chicken tenders and thin crepe like waffles. Nashville hot, where we are from, is a hot honey sauce. There was no sauce, no glaze, no spicy batter. Just chicken tenders. They were good chicken tenders, but we were sorely disappointed that the chicken was just chicken. The bacon was spicier than the plain chicken tenders. The server, as good as he was, said that's how it is supposed to be, but alas, we just dealt with it. It wasn't worth causing a fuss. The rest of the food was good. I'm a big fan of the cinnamon roll before breakfast. That was changed to buttery biscuits. Good, but could use a good ole gravy with it. That's the southern way. I'll probably stick to lunch given today's experience, but I'll also try it again to give breakfast a redeeming try. Maybe the hot honey will actually have the glaze?

Yelp
Save your money and RUN!! 64$ spent and the food reminded me of being in a nursing home. It was bland, and underwhelming. Also- they have a NO TAKEHOME leftovers policy- only for desserts you can. We got the 24.99 per person which came with 2 main dishes ( chicken fried steak, and meatloaf) and 4 sides. The only thing that was good were the biscuits they give you when you sit down. The tangy sauce on the meatloaf was good. The views were nice , restaurant clean- but I can't even believe I spent 74$ with the tip. Instant regret. If you've ever seen that scene in Vegas Vacation where they go to that cheap buffet and the guy slops the food on his plate, that's what the food reminded me of haha. Never again Paula Deen! Could've used that money to do Anakeesta!!

Yelp
We absolutely LOVED this place. The food is served "family style" a term we hadn't yet heard before. Which sounds silly now. But basically you pick items off a list, and they bring out portions in bowls that you then use a fresh utensil to scoop onto your own plate and eat with your utensils to eat. Then after that you order more. This is all you can eat and includes at a price per person rate. So eat it up!! The service is excellent and they make sure you always have food. Now the setup of the restaurant I found to be a little weird. Gift shop downstairs, dining room upstairs. Bathrooms back downstairs. (Yes there's and elevator). Now after ALL of that, don't forget you have dessert coming and please don't skip it. Even if you think you have no room left, figure it out. Thank me later.

Yelp
Everything is served family style! So make sure you go with people you like . The service was amazing, even with them being busy. The food was chefs kiss. We didn't have anything we didn't like. You can't take any food to go, other than the dessert that's included with the meal.

Yelp
We have been here before awhile back. We did breakfast and ordered the Nashville hot chicken and waffles, apple cinnamon French toast, millionaire bacon, cheese grits, and the cheesy hash browns. Everything was delicious except the Nashville hot chicken. As you can see in my pictures it came out as just fried chicken strips. It states that it is smothered in a signature hot sauce. We asked the waiter to check to see if they forgot to add the sauce but he came back saying the cooks stated that is the way they come. Being from right outside Nashville this was not Nashville Hot Chicken. The restaurant was clean and the waiters were very polite. We will continue to come to this place but very disappointed with the chicken.

Yelp
Walking into Paula Deen's Family Kitchen at The Island in TN is like visiting a much larger (IMO much nicer), less crowded Cracker Barrel (no offense, CB fans! I love them too!) The first floor is the Paula Deen's Store, where you can find a variety of different home goods, special jarred, bottled and canned goods, as well as clothing. Take the escalator/elevator to the second floor for restaurant seating. Menu is family style; you can choose 3, 4 and 5 main entrees with a couple sides. I highly recommend the Fried Chicken, Candied Yams and Broccoli Casserole. For dessert, you can't go wrong with any option but the Banana Pudding was my favorite. Service was amazing. We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. Deandra was on top of her game with various check ins, drink refills, and making sure our food was out quickly. Five stars for stellar service and a top-notch family dinning experience.

Yelp
I can't fully complain about the food bc of the price point. Granted I'm used to California prices but 23 bucks per person for unlimited refills of the same 4 entrees and 4 sides that you choose, plus a dessert just can't be beat. We got the fried chicken, the beef roast, the spare ribs, and the catfish. The fish wasn't anything special (but cooked well). The friend chicken didn't have seasoning but was cooked perfectly, which ended up being fine to me bc I add hot sauce to fried chicken anyway. The spare ribs were surprisingly tasty as was the pot roast (too salty but great flavor). The sides were got were the Mac and cheese, fried okra, collard greens, and the mashed potatoes. The best side dish were the collards, by far. Super good! I also enjoyed the fried okra; not greasy at all. The overall ambiance is like Cracker Barrel, ha! She sells things on the first floor and the restaurant is on the second floor. It's nicely accessible as there aren't stairs but an escalator and an elevator so everyone can make it to the restaurant. There are ramps too. Our server, Dillion, was nice and attentive. Brought me out a new coke "just in case" and I appreciated his readiness. Would I go back? Probably and only get the things I know I like. Great value for families!

Yelp
We came here while on vacation and had lunch. It was a Thursday and the wait was like 15 minutes which wasn't bad. We waited a while to get refills on food which was a little disappointing. The food was great though! The biscuits are just *chefs kiss*. We did fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, pork chops and roast. They were are really good! I cook really similar to this so it was really nice to have something cooked how I like it and not be the one cooking and cleaning lol. A few things I found a little salty but still good! We got the Mac and cheese (I was skeptical bc that's one of my specialties but it was pretty good for a restaurant), creamed corn (nobody really liked it), candied yams which were really good and broccoli casserole which was so so(I like mine better lol). The roast was good, fried chicken was really good (crispy and well seasoned), chicken and dumplings (our unexpected fav) and the pork chops (close second fav). The oeey gooey cake is always amazing (I make this too and I think hers is better). All in all, if you're in the area def go but go with a big appetite!

Yelp
I can't believe I got sucked into this tourist trap. The atmosphere was a little better than a Golden Corral. The food was horrible. In fact, Golden Corral has better food. The service waiter and manager were fair. After I complained about the quality of the food, she offered a 50% discount. Hence the 2 stars instead of one. Not recommended!!!

Yelp
We had the best server! He packaged up our desserts because he thought we wanted them to-go, and when we told him we planned on eating them at the restaurant, he brought us new desserts! So we ate our desserts, and got to take some home for later! The food was delicious. Family style is always so filling, but it is worth it. The ooey gooey butter cake was my favorite (specifically the salted caramel). I need the recipe!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I do not understand the hate for this place. Every food item we had was delicious, you would be crazy to leave hungry, and it was all so fresh. The servers truly had the best interest of the customers in mind, or so it appeared at least. The inside was cutely themed, and the gift shop makes my grandmother go broke (she loves it). I would not eat here often though, I felt as though I gained 100 pounds being there.
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
We have made this a stop every time we visit the area. We can't find one thing to complain about and believe me, we are very picky. Service and quality of the food is awesome very clean and great view of the area outside.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
The staff was very attentive and polite. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and is well lit. As far as the food goes its not bad. My one disappointment was the "Nashville Hot" chicken and waffles. While the chicken was juicy and well cooked it was not nashville hot. Nashville hot chicken evokes the expectation of a sweet/hot sticky sauce coating the chicken. This was just regular fried chicken. No sauce or spice to be had. And the "waffles" were floppy and extremely thin.

Kim B.

Yelp
I will start with the food. We have eaten at a couple of Paula Deen's restaurants. I was surprised this one was family style. Sides were not very good. But main entree items were very good. Service was not horrible but not good either. Location is cool. Set up is nice.

Yelp
This place was a 10/10. We came about 1 hour before closing and the food was fresh and delish. If you are looking for a family style restaurant then go here! We chose the 3 meats (friend chicken, fried fish, ribs) and 4 sides (mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and green beans). We also were given these cheddar biscuits that MELT in your mouth. The service was amazing! We loved our server. The entire table is buffet style, but the only rule is that you cannot take anything hope EXCEPT the dessert.
google avatar

Yelp
So this place is not so bad , but the parking is! This nowhere the quality of Miss Deens! It's not even owned by her ! The staff is nice but some of our food came out cold! Back to the parking! It's about a half of a mile over the bridge! I was a little upset trying to make a 9:15 reservation! If it wasn't for the gracious female trolley driver, we wouldn't have made it! The food was very pedestrian! The menu is family style and confusing! The chicken fried steak was cold the first two times, but piping hot on the third time! This not a gourmet place! In fact most of the staff was on their phone! I We love our waitress! We didn't have the manager come to our table as some places do! The place was kinda vacant! Our view was good! Plenty of food!

Yelp
We met Paula after 15 years and she was terrific. We are sad knowing that we might never meet her again. The food at the buffet is good. The mains are hit and miss, but the Catfish is always great, as are the sides. Regarding breakfast, the chefs don't follow the recipes and leave out a lot of ingredients. Nevertheless, we met Paula Deen, and her hubby. Makes me want fried chicken. We bought her book and are making many of them. We met Paula Deen. We can't imagine a world without Paula Deen. God Bless you Paula Deen and all her supporting Staff!

Justin K.

Yelp
Food is delicious...however... We had a reservation and they didn't honor it. Had to wait another 45mins after checking in for our reservation. Also, the serving sizes have gone down soooo much. Last time I went was their Destin, FL location (now closed) and then I left feeling so full and almost sick lol. The serving sizes now are pathetic. A "family style" of chicken and dumplings was a single small bowl (cereal bowl size)...hardly enough for one lol. It was almost comical. We left hungry. Then we got the dessert to go and the "serving" of banana pudding didn't even take up a quarter of the little container, they filled the rest in with cool whip. More cool whip than actual dessert lol. It used to be worth the money...not anymore. I'll admit their food is very tasty, but it's a tease when we leave hungry

Yelp
Wow! What can I say? Pigeon forge is so much fun. I needed to stop by Paula Deen's and it did not disappoint. First off it's clean and spacious. Got seated next to the windows and had a wonderful view of The Island. Our server, Sarah, was very sweet and there's nothing to complain about her. As a group of 3 we ordered the 3 dish package. We chose fried chicken, the ribs, and the chicken and dumplings. For our sides we picked Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and creamed corn. All were excellent. We were too stuffed to eat our dessert but they let us take that to go. We chose 2 ooey gooey butter cakes (it's probably one of my top 3 desserts ever so I knew I needed to try Paula's) and the cobbler of the day was peach. I'm sad that I didn't get a lot of the topping but it was so good. And the butter cake was epic. Very satisfied with this meal here.

Yelp
Had an absolute awful experience. We had to wait 20 minutes before a server even acknowledged us. Unfortunately shortly after being seated my husband became ill. Not wanting to disappoint me, I'd been so excited for this meal, he wasn't telling me how bad he was. I mentioned to my server that he wasn't feeling well and asked if I could get him meal to go. By this time, my husband was visibly ill. The server lacked compassion and said the only thing I could take home was dessert. Despite it being evident that my husband was ill, he didn't check in us. The food was sat down and I only got one bite before my husband was in emergency situation. I had to go into the kitchen and demand I be able to quickly pay my 70 bill for a meal I had one bite of before rushing my husband to the hospital. It was frustrating, scary and infuriating. Eating at a very empty restaurant with a man who was clearly in distress and still having to chase down my server has me angry as I write this review. I expected better of Paula Deen's restaurant.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Always yummy and lots of food. We were seated quickly and at a table with a great view of the fountain and Christmas decor. Quick and kind service. The only reason for the 4 star is because one of our ooey gooey butter cakes had egg shells in the crust.
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
The food was really good at this place. The only downfall is that you are going to have to be prepared to wait a really long time. My wife really wanted to try that place and wants to go back but due to the wait, I'm more than happy to pass.

Darren T.

Yelp
I couldn't believe that this place got under four stars so I had to come on here and show my support! I've been to this restaurant many times and every time it's been a great experience. Good service and good ambience with a great view of the plaza with the fountain. Plus Very good food. Are a few things on the menu better than others? of course, but that's with every restaurant. The fried chicken is fantastic and we get it every time. The pot roast is very good. slightly salty I agree, but not a big deal.
google avatar

Alesia B.

Yelp
First off i absolutely loved our waiter. He was hysterical, knew his menu and what he was doing! The environment is so awesome and welcoming. Come with an appetite trust meeee!! The only food i don't care for was the beans they weren't my thing. But the salad dressing I loved it so much I bought some for home!
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
It was a pretty slow night and there were no wait times which was nice. Straight to the table and our waiter was super nice and good at his job. Love those type of workers! Food was fast and hot. Really good food too. They kept bringing more are you ate. If you leave hungry it's your own fault. Sweet tea was made right. Hard to find really good sweet tea. It's a large place that can be loud at time but nothing crazy. Not take home food at all besides dessert if you get it to go. I had the banana pudding at it was great. I wish they did something with all the food that is wasted. They won't let you take it home but they also just throw it away. Doesn't make sense to me. Only reason why the 4 star.
google avatar

Yelp
Listen Linda, OMG, this place is FABULISTIC !! Come hungry and bring your bib. Holy Guacamole !! The way their menu is set up is a win win for everyone involved, Earthing or Alien LOL !! Don't get me started on the Taste and flavors, Holy Bejesus !! From the catfish to the pot roast, and everything in between. AMAZEBALLS !! Found our go to here in Pigeon Forge. Our server Dedra was so welcoming and enthusiastic, she set the perfect ambiance for our meal. The restaurant is inviting and very clean. Highly Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Come HUNGRY if you're doing the family style seating! We've been here a couple times for the family style seating, where you get to pick a few items and they'll bring more out to you. As much as you want! There's plenty to choose from but our favorite is the creamed corn, fried chicken, dumplings, and pot roast. To top it all off, getting some goey brownies for dessert. Luckily there's an escalator to get out of here and a shop to walk around in or else our bellies would burst! Even more so, where you park to walk into this mall-like area is pretty far away, so by the time you get to your car the butter is all worked off!
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
The amount of obese people I see in this restaurant just shows me that people are more interested in quantity than quality. 60 percent of the people here were at least 100 lbs overweight. They offer all you can eat family style here. If you're a couple, it's two entrées and four sides. I ordered the ribs and my husband got the chicken fried steak. Our sides were the baked beans, which were loaded with pork, not bad but very different. The green beans were extremely smoky and soggy. The ribs did say that the sauce was sweet, but this was way overboard. The mashed potatoes were good and creamy and the sweet potatoes were also very good. I just can't see asking for more of anything else that we got though. Sad state of America.
google avatar

Megan H.

Yelp
I wanted so much to leave a 5 star review but I can't. Our experience here was not great. Food took a long time, a refill of chicken might as well of not been offered. Took over 30 mins for the chicken. We were a table of 5... 4 pieces of chicken wouldn't even give each of us a piece. Coffee was cold. Service was just ok. Not at all what we expected or hoped for. The food itself was good. Chicken has a great taste.
google avatar

Sabina C.

Yelp
Come with lose pants cause you're gonna need them. Everything here was amazing! The wait was insane, almost 2.5hrs and we didn't mind since we were able to walk around. We ordered damn near everything and there wasn't anything we didn't like. The corn bread though!? My gaaaaaawd so good! Paula did her thang! Highly recommend! Great place to bring the family or a date.
google avatar

Brad R.

Yelp
Very small portion of dessert for the price. Pot roast was very salty. For the cost of a meal you would think a soda could come with it.
google avatar

Rebecca V.

Yelp
I am a sucker for ooey gooey butter cake and this place does it best. The service was quick and friendly (they squeezed me in when I told them I was just staying for a quick bute of dessert. The decor is southern style charming and so is the gift shop downstairs. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shop for some cute gifts and decor.

Yelp
We came here around 1:30PM yesterday (Sunday), it was a party of 7. We liked the set up of the restaurant and that you have a view of the Ferris wheel and other activities around the Island from our table. We had fried chicken, ribs, pork chops and pot roast (comes with a side of rice). All of our main dishes were really enjoyed by the entire party. Our sides were Mac and cheese, creamy potatoes, corn on the cob and salad. All were good too. Also ordered strawberry lemonade (enjoyed), blueberry lemonade (also good) and two peach teas (these were very sweet and had to be watered down). We ended up taking most of our delicious ooey gooey butter cakes to go because we were so full. Our biggest and only complaint was the service. Although the food came out quickly and warm, our waitress Michelle, was not friendly at all, seemed to have a problem even smiling. She kept servicing us from one corner of our long table when there was enough room for her to get to the other side. Rather than doing this, she first started by literally throwing/sliding napkins across the table so they could reach us on the other end. Then she kept asking us to pass our plates and drinks down to each other, and would sometimes slide our drinks, again across the table. Really not necessary. Then she would fill our water refills to the very edge. It was bizarre. Towards the end, not sure if she was trying to impress us, she loaded up multiple plates (that we all moved over to her preferred corner, because she was too lazy to come over to the other side), to carry back to the kitchen and she almost dropped the leftover pot roast dish on one of us. Not necessary, not impressed. The service is the reason this review is a 4 and not a 5.

Mark H.

Yelp
Worst experience ever there. We have been here numerous times and have never had bad service until today. We waited for our table ( with a reservation) and were finally told that we had been texted 20 minutes earlier, which we had not. Upon being seated, we waited another 20 minutes before our server arrived and then our food came out before our first set of drinks. We will definitely come back, but just was not impressed this time around. Every other time had been spot on. The food was still delicious as usual.

Whitney W.

Yelp
If you do anything; get the breakfast casserole & the hash brown casserole! The food, service & atmosphere were all amazing! We highly recommend the breakfast at Paula Deens!
google avatar

Harold K.

Yelp
Thought the food was amazing. If you're still hungry when you leave here, it's your own fault.

Michael E.

Yelp
Food was really good, service was ok. Catfish was great, fried chicken was ok (kfc is better). Mac and cheese great and bbq baked beans was great (there was pork in it). It's all you can eat, family style. Come hungry with time to spend, refills are slow.

Eva H.

Yelp
Their food was great! And the food came out quick! Our waiter was very nice! We will come back!
google avatar

Yelp
My server, Shellie, was absolutely terrific! She was both friendly and extremely efficient and made me feel quite welcomed. She was five star service all the way! For my meal, I chose the Pork Chops and Meatloaf as my mains. I had the Salad, Whipped Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, along with the Creamed Corn which my server recommended and she was right, it was delicious! The Pork Chops were the star of the two mains I picked. And the gravy that came with them came in absolutely clutch for the whipped potatoes! The meatloaf was a bit underwhelming to my taste so I would choose another dish should I be back in this area. The Salad and Creamed Corn were the stars of the sides I chose. The potatoes were very good too but the Mac and Cheese was underwhelming. All in all it was a very good experience. Service was top notch. The view of the mountains off in the distance and some tasty dishes made for a very enjoyable meal. Oh, and the signature warm Ooey Gooey Butter Cake was sublime. Worth the visit just for that!

Yelp
For a family style restaurant, Paula Deen's always serves fresh, hot food, and as much as you want for one price. This was my first time at the pigeon forge location and it held up to this reputation! My party of 10 went for lunch and paid $22 p/p for two meats, 4 sides and a dessert (dinner costs more for the same meal) Keep in mind that your entire party has to agree on what to get, whether it's 2 people or 20. Refills also come in smaller portions and take a bit longer to receive. You can also purchase additional sides for $2 per person. My favorite items were the biscuits and candied yams, but everything was pretty good (minus the corn on the cob, that was one I wish we skipped) Overall, Paula Deen's Family Kitchen is definitely worth a try if you want some fresh country style food.

Yelp
Come hungry! Good clean atmosphere. Friendly staff. Came on Sunday evening and seated immediately. We had the pick 2 entrees with 4 sides. We picked fried chicken and pulled pork with green beans, creamed potatoes, mac&cheese and bbq baked beans. Starting with the cheddar bread, while good. did not come out hot. This was the only negative (-1). The dinner food itself was excellent. It was a tossup between the pot roast and pulled pork. Had we known the bbq baked beans were loaded with pulled pork we would have tried the pot roast. Not taking anything away from the beans just a different flavor would have been fun to sample. Dessert we had the banana pudding and chocolate butter cake. Both tasted wonderful. The experience did not disappoint and recommend giving it a try.

Yelp
Great food and quick service! We had the pot roast (a bit salty but still good!) and catfish; sides we ordered were Mac and cheese, broccoli casserole, candied yams and baked beans. ALL were soo good!

Yelp
Very Meh. Tourist Trap. 100%. So many better places to eat than ANYTHING at The Island. Just avoid all the eateries there. I grew up watching Paula. I had expectations. Instead we got buffet style Golden Corral quality food. The concept is you choose 2, 3, or 4 meats along with sides and they keep them coming as needed. 1. We had a lovely booth up against the window to see the fountain show. This was the best part of dining here. 2. The server was so lackluster in his demeanor. He greeted us like he didnt want to be there. He followed up once, should we have needed refills, and once at dessert. 3. We didnt need refills because the food was served luke warm and no one was craving mmore. Also just not delicious. A let down. 4. Our specialty iced tea was expensive, considering its tea. And I don't believe it was eligible for free refill. 5. We looked at each other when we got the bill like this was NOT worth it. I've spoken to a former employee since then and she said the staff doesnt eat the dinner food there either. But the breakfast is better. 6. They aren't fooling be again tho. Nice try, Paula! 7. The gift shop on the first floor is cute. 8. There is an elevator in the back of the retail shop for those with mobility issues, to get upstairs to the dining room.

Yelp
The place, decoration and location are perfect but the food, OMG, if they could put sugar in your water they would. This is diabetes land, I'm pretty sure i spiked my blood sugar that morning. This is a family style restaurant where you would pick a few items from the menu and it's unlimited refills, that's if you can get there. I wish it wasn't limited to just a few items, why can't we sample it all? We had some members of the family that didn't want this or that so decision making was hard. Anyways food is just way too sugary. Scrambled eggs looked funky, complimentary orange juice tasted weird too. Overall it's a tourist trap and expensive. Not worth it.

Yelp
Our waiter Ryan gave us exceptional service. I wish there were more people like him. A person who loves his job and is good at it. The food was good as well. The only thing we had left overs and would not box up. They could only do the desserts. Overall I would recommend Paula Deen's Kitchen.

Yelp
This is pure Southern comfort food, with a huge helping of Southern hospitality. We had fried chicken, chicken-fried pork chops, and chicken and dumplings for the meats. All were excellent! We had collard greens, creamed potatoes, green beans, and baked mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was okay; everything else was great. We highly recommend eating here.

Yelp
Food is good, but way overpriced. Service is always friendly. Dessert is not the greatest and the banana pudding is mostly wafers. I wish you could get refills of different veggies each time. Love the atmosphere though, and the store is super cute and reasonably priced.
