Where to Eat Aboriginal Cuisine in Adelaide, Australia

"At Paulett Wines, located in the Clare Valley wine region about 85 miles north of Adelaide, owner Ali Paulett planted a bush garden with the guidance of Aboriginal consultants back in 2010. Today, the winery’s restaurant, Bush DeVine, continues that focus on local farming. Chef Thomas Erkelenz sources ingredients from his on-site garden and also relies on relationships with regional foragers and purveyors. I ate soba noodles made with sweet-spicy pepperberries, accented with pork cracklings and a briny succulent called karkalla, on a terrace overlooking pastures and vineyards." - Veronica M. Stoddart

I am defeated… my partner and I have very healthy appetites and ordered the 5 shared plates. But we had to concede defeat after 3. The food here is just amazing - very creative ingredient combinations that result in unusual and delicious flavours. Bbq peaches with harrisa, peppermint dukah and cilantro - wow. Took my breath away. The burnt onion yogurt binds everything together. It’s hearty and flavorful as you sink your teeth into the peaches… and yet crunchy with bits of peanut and spices. You need to try this! The tea smoked pork belly was trying a lil too hard with too many condiments and tastes together. Tho they taste wonderful separately… the pork belly is outstanding on its own. The spring onion pancake is great with the hoisin, chilli and mushroom mayo. The mushroom mayo explodes with flavour just on its own. Amazing. The fried Barramundi wings - just so beautifully well-fried. Crispy on the outside and so moist on the inside. Amazing! The dill just pops - what a great combi. Don’t eat this with a first date tho… it’s messy tho so worth it. We thought we’d takeaway the remaining 2 dishes though the team is so kind and generous to just switch it to a 3 course meal. Thank you - we really appreciate it. And yes - we would recommend everyone to come by Paulette’s. The Polish Hill Rieslings are nicely executed - all that you expect them to be. The 2024 is surprisingly nice and well priced. Try it!

Incredible experience at Bush deVine! 5 course shared tasting with wine. Absolutely yum! Perfect wine matched to the amazing courses beginning with Barramundi wings followed by pork belly, gnocchi, waygu brisket and slaw. Topped off with delectable dessert. I can’t begin to express how awesome every bite was.

A must see in the area. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Chrissy took such good care of me and all of the staff were gorgeous and friendly. The chefs were also so accommodating with my dietary preferences (vegan) and the meals were so complex and flavourful. Not to mention the wonderful view. Thank you! ❤️ Elizabeth

Had a fabulous lunch yesterday choose 5 sharing dishes absolutely delicious and interesting adventurous chef great job …staff was professional and on point. Only a little down point was we had the pairing wines to go with the meal and it would have been nice if they had show case some or one premier range wine. It would have been nice…would have been happy to pay a bit more for even one or 2 premiere wines. Other than that excellent food and service.

What an unforgettable experience at Paulett Wines in the Clare Valley! My partner and I booked in for the wine tasting with matched canapés, and it exceeded all expectations. The wines were excellent, each showcasing the region beautifully — but it was the canapés that completely blew us away. The food had a strong focus on Australian ingredients, and you could really sense the chef’s passion for native produce. Every canapé felt like a creative expression of Australia’s unique flavours — ingredients you don’t often come across in mainstream dining, which made the whole experience feel that much more special. The dessert was a standout, with one of the components featuring green ants — yes, green ants! — which were surprisingly delicious and thoughtfully used. The service was just as impressive as the food and wine. The staff were warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they were offering. They took the time to explain each wine and food pairing in a way that was both informative and relaxed, which really elevated the whole experience. Huge compliments to the chef for creating something truly original and memorable. This is one of those rare experiences that feels entirely unique to the region and is something you absolutely shouldn’t miss if you’re visiting the Clare Valley. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

On my first trip with friends to Clare Valley on a beautiful summer's day, we were lucky enough to get a table for lunch at Bush Divine Winery Restaurant. Our extraordinary dining experience easily became the highlight of our tour of the valley. With a vegan and gluten free diet to cater for in our group, the restaurant was not phased. The incredible chef magically modified every dish we ordered into delicious and stunningly presented options for each individual diner in our group. Fresh native ingredients grown in their own bush garden featured in every thoughtfully curated dish. It was amazing! The staff were exceptionally attentive and friendly and we all enjoyed the beautiful variety of refreshing wines that accompanied our dishes. You cannot leave the valley without experiencing this award winning restaurant. It is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the heart and soul of the Clare Valley.

Yelp
A very nice stop today as we were out and about to sample and purchase some wines. I'm visiting the Adelaide area from the US, and have heard of some great Clair Valley vintners. The flight I chose to taste included two selections I left with, their Grenache and that notable 109. Quite nice...and I look forward to trying them at leisure when home. The staff were very pleasant, and my son enjoyed his hot chocolate. Nice folks here, and tasty vino!

Yelp
Excellent wines, great service and an amazing view overlooking Polish Hill. Paulett's do an excellent sparkling Shiraz and their 2008 Malbec Cabernet is definitely worth a try.
