Where to Eat Aboriginal Cuisine in Adelaide, Australia

"At Paulett Wines, located in the Clare Valley wine region about 85 miles north of Adelaide, owner Ali Paulett planted a bush garden with the guidance of Aboriginal consultants back in 2010. Today, the winery’s restaurant, Bush DeVine, continues that focus on local farming. Chef Thomas Erkelenz sources ingredients from his on-site garden and also relies on relationships with regional foragers and purveyors. I ate soba noodles made with sweet-spicy pepperberries, accented with pork cracklings and a briny succulent called karkalla, on a terrace overlooking pastures and vineyards." - Veronica M. Stoddart

On my first trip with friends to Clare Valley on a beautiful summer's day, we were lucky enough to get a table for lunch at Bush Divine Winery Restaurant. Our extraordinary dining experience easily became the highlight of our tour of the valley. With a vegan and gluten free diet to cater for in our group, the restaurant was not phased. The incredible chef magically modified every dish we ordered into delicious and stunningly presented options for each individual diner in our group. Fresh native ingredients grown in their own bush garden featured in every thoughtfully curated dish. It was amazing! The staff were exceptionally attentive and friendly and we all enjoyed the beautiful variety of refreshing wines that accompanied our dishes. You cannot leave the valley without experiencing this award winning restaurant. It is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the heart and soul of the Clare Valley.

Had a fabulous lunch yesterday choose 5 sharing dishes absolutely delicious and interesting adventurous chef great job …staff was professional and on point. Only a little down point was we had the pairing wines to go with the meal and it would have been nice if they had show case some or one premier range wine. It would have been nice…would have been happy to pay a bit more for even one or 2 premiere wines. Other than that excellent food and service.

Superb. Thanks, Chrissy for such a great tasting. So friendly. We have the flight. A different one each and we got to try so many wines. All excellent. Mrs C even got to try her first green ant. Yup. Highly recommended.

Popped into Pauletts winery on the way back to our accommodation and decided to have dessert and a tasting. The wine was ok, staff extremely friendly and helpful, venue lovely and the dessert we chose was outstanding! Compliments to the chef. I come from a food background and it was faultless and delicious. Looking forward to coming back on our next trip and doing a long lunch.

What an experience! The five course degustation with paired premium wines is a must-do when visiting the Clare region. Friendly staff, comfortable furnishings and a great view. Easy to access by car or the cycle trail. Many friends had recommended and now we understand why. Thank you!

My friend and I, we had a wonderful experience at Paulette Wines. The staff is really friendly and we got a full description of wines & dishes we tasted. Great selection of white, red and sparkling beverages. All dishes are well executed, the chef did a good job.

We went to Paulett’s for lunch following a recommendation and chose the Long Lunch which is a seven course chefs choice menu. We went with our children who ordered off the kids menu. It was the first time ever I had not enjoyed a degustation. Things started well with some lovely bread and canapés. Our ceviche was next and it was quite nice but under seasoned. This was followed by their octopus dish which was fantastic and showed that they can do amazing food. All good so far. The main disappointment at this stage is that despite being at a winery we were given no information about the matched wines. Then things started derailing. The kids food came out: popcorn chicken and chips. The popcorn chicken was way overcooked and the chips were undercooked. I’m surprised they actually served the meal given you could tell just looking at it that the chicken was way overcooked. (Photo attached) The kids couldn’t eat it and we tried one and they were dry and chewy. Our chicken dish came out. The chicken was nicely cooked but the accompanying elements lacked taste. We then got served 3 items from the dessert menu. I have never had 3 desserts in a seven course meal. The cheese dish was inedible. It tasted like something was off. Despite the fact we only ate one bite each, no one asked for any feedback on the food. The next dessert was pavlova. This was really tasty but massive. This was definitely a full size dessert which seemed off for a 7 course meal. The next dessert was satisfactory. Again a full sized dessert. Overall, unless you are a massive eater and love a dessert heavy menu, I don’t recommend the long lunch. I also can’t recommend taking children after the poor $25 offer they were given. Luckily with the included bread, drink, and ice cream for the kids they weren’t too hungry. I think the most disappointing issues were that they even served the kids meal, didn’t ask for feedback when they couldn’t eat it and didn’t ask for feedback when we couldn’t eat the cheese dish. Honestly my husband and I looked at each other in horror when we tried it. On leaving as we paid we were asked how was your meal and my husband gave a very non enthusiastic “It was okay” which they didn’t ask any further about. I didn’t eat any dinner and am still not hungry for breakfast and who knows, maybe I won’t need lunch today. So I suppose it at least keeps you full.

Went for lunch and wine tasting. Absolutely superb! The service was brilliant, knowledgeable staff, friendly and engaging. Chrissy served us and looked after us throughout our time. Such a lovely person who made us feel so welcome and special. The food was absolutely beautiful using native ingredients. We will definitely be back. Thankyou for creating a memorable experience for us.

Yelp
A very nice stop today as we were out and about to sample and purchase some wines. I'm visiting the Adelaide area from the US, and have heard of some great Clair Valley vintners. The flight I chose to taste included two selections I left with, their Grenache and that notable 109. Quite nice...and I look forward to trying them at leisure when home. The staff were very pleasant, and my son enjoyed his hot chocolate. Nice folks here, and tasty vino!

Yelp
Excellent wines, great service and an amazing view overlooking Polish Hill. Paulett's do an excellent sparkling Shiraz and their 2008 Malbec Cabernet is definitely worth a try.
