If you’re looking for a place that serves mouthwatering food with a side of genuine hospitality, Paul’s Pizza Joint is it! From the moment you walk in, the warm, family-friendly atmosphere makes you feel right at home. The staff is incredibly welcoming, attentive, and quick to make sure you have everything you need. Plus, they proudly offer a military discount, which speaks volumes about their appreciation for those who serve. The food? Absolutely amazing. The pepperoni pizza is the perfect balance of crispy crust, gooey cheese, and flavorful toppings. The calzone is golden-brown perfection, stuffed with cheesy goodness and served with rich marinara sauce and even the side salad is fresh and satisfying. Whether you’re grabbing dinner with the family, hanging out with friends, or just craving some of the best pizza in town, Paul’s delivers every time. Great food, great people, great vibes.

It’s a traditional New York pizza, you pick a slice to heat it up and you’re on your way. For years, this has been one of my favorite spots. Pizza usually has a good variety and a lot of the side, especially the gelato are amazing. But the pieces are a little smaller than they used to be. And although there’s many times I’ve enjoyed this place, like all good things.. It’s coming to an end. It’s not just a higher prices or the hidden service fees. (Not marked anywhere on the menu ) Although I understand rising cost. Are two slices of pizza and the can soda are now worth 15 bucks? But the Service seems to bark at you& the quality is not exactly as good as it used to be. Although there are still some exceptional things available. Now, I’ve know That even your favorite restaurants, you can have a bad experience, Once in a great while. But what happens when you just have four or five mediocre ones… well for me…. I think you just stop going.

Google
Hidden gem. Laid back atmosphere. A good variety of food and drinks. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza, and a pepperoni and jalapeño. They were full of flavor and the sauce was amazing. The owner was very friendly and a great conversationalist. Had a great first experience will be back again!

Google
Went with my friend after Work and man that was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life. For sure some of the best here in SD. The staff was so cool and friendly. She was telling us some History of the restaurant. Cool little spot inside too. Must try if you love pizza.

Google
This is an amazing, wholesome, small business owned pizza joint! We ended up getting an 18” spinage a trois which we loved and definitely tasted super authentic! We could tell from just dining in here for an hour that this place is frequented by many regulars, most of the customers are on a first name basis with the workers/owner. Definitely felt cozy and homey which is hard to come by these days. Also they gave us an extra cheese pizza (a whole pizza) free of charge because they apparently made it lopsided originally but it was still delicious haha they even made an effort to ask if we have an oven to reheat it so they could make it slightly half cooked and we can reheat the pizza without it getting overcooked. Definitely will be back and highly recommend!

Google
They offer fantastic pizza pies and pizza by the slice. Plenty of variety. Small dining area. Tight parking. The woman taking my order has sterling personality, greeted everyone, and created a wonderful vibe. I will definitely be returning with my whole crew 🦜🏴‍☠️ Yar!!

Google
I moved to San Diego from NJ and have been looking for really good NY style pizza for a year now, this is the best freaking pizza Ive had here so far, it tastes just like how they make it on the east coast, everything was fresh and cooked perfectly, oh and my buffalo wings? My favorite wings EVER. Everyone who works there is sweet and welcoming, if you want good pizza go here

Tuna Priest

Google
A great pizza spot, slices are priced fairly and large (Think costco size) and taste great. We aren't talking downtown New York little italy, but still in my top 10. Their bbq chicken pizza has fresh garlic that really takes it up a notch. The gelato is also pretty good and they have around 8 flavors, they also having tasting spoons if you want to sample 1-2 first. Finally, the owner (or head manager, never asked) is wonderful and very friendly. She makes the atmostphere fantastic. Already gone three times, plan to go at least once more while I'm in the area

Toliver D.

Yelp
Great customer service!!! Best pizza in town! Absolutely love everything on their menu.

Christian L.

Yelp
Great pizza! I'm from Jersey, reminds me of home! If I am in the mood for some good pizza this is the spot to go to! In my opinion the best slice is buffalo chicken ranch! Owner is really kind as well! Gives military discount if you are in service.

Yelp
Ordered on door dash and was very happy with the result. I'm obsessed with garlic cheesy bread and this hit the spot. Crunchy, gooey, flavorful. Will for sure re-order. Need to try their pizza next.

Yelp
I picked up a pizza and calzone on their app in the morning for dinner pick up. About 30-45 mins after placing the order, I received a call asking if I could come earlier because they wanted to close early. I was surprised and had to scramble to get someone to cover for me so I could pick up food about 2 hours earlier. When I arrived the cook was standing outside and hadn't even made my order! No apology. I had to wait 20 mins. Food was OK, too much dough. I like supporting small businesses, but sometimes adjusting my schedule to accommodate theirs makes it difficult. I would not recommend Pauly's, especially not if you plan ahead.
google avatar

Yelp
Small pizza place in SD. I'm from NY and was curious about this one. The regular cheese slice and the margherita slice weren't very good. The chicken bacon ranch one was pretty good, but didn't come with much chicken or bacon on it. The pizza didn't come out very warm tho. There's also no bathroom to use. My search definitely continues for good pizza in this state....

Yelp
We love Pauly's! Amazing calzones and stromboli. Flavorful dough. This is our favorite local pizza spot!

Yelp
A reliable foodie friend dined here about a month ago and raved about the pizza he and his fam had devoured. Because of his update, I was more eager to eat here, and I had this joint bookmarked for about two years. Unfortunately, I had a sub-par experience. We've ordered pizza by the slice, and it was about 6:00 pm on a Monday. Perhaps the pizza is far better if made-to-order, and on weekends. Pesto pizza slice: this was a bit dry but flavorful. Herbs and garlic came through, but the amount of cheese was lacking, 7.5/10 rating. TKO and Hawaiian pizza slices: these were both dry and average tasting. The sauce was bland, while the cheese was minimal, 7/10. The atmosphere was strange, as the majority of the lights in the dining area were off and the restaurant looked closed from the parking lot. The employee that took our order was not communicative, and I had to ask if the two pizza slices that I've ordered include a canned soda, in which he only nodded to confirm. This spot is a one and done for me =(

Yelp
Good solid pizza option in the sorrento valley/miramar area. Tried the buffalo chicken. Tried the pepperoni. Was so good, went and got another slice. Cons: Parking can be a problem during lunch in this strip mall since there are other food places as well

Jackson P.

Yelp
The pizza was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. 10/10 would recommend. My favorite is the Buffalo pizza. This is what real east coast pizza should be! Crust is delicious and you can tell that dough was made fresh!! It's not rubbery and you can fold it in half.
google avatar

Matin N.

Yelp
Honestly, I'm very surprised. I paid over $60, for two, 18 inch pizzas, that were undercooked. I'm not going to go into how mediocre the taste was. It definitely wasn't worth it in my opinion and I hope they put extra time and effort into what they cook for their customers.
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
They were really nice, but I don't think I could recommend it. Nothing stuck out to me. It was thinner pizza than some other places, but I don't know. I just ate it.
google avatar

Bryant F.

Yelp
Pauly himself is awesome. He and I have traveled some of the same roads back east, and he both knows NY style pizza and ably produces it. Slices are my favorite to order. They're quick and quality, with the signature NYC foldable crust and tasty sauce. Whole pizzas are fine, but I'm having trouble justifying the price over just getting a few slices to enjoy. For anyone who's not noticed, there's a new location with expanded menu just a few doors down. I invite you to see them again soon.
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Going to NYC next month so start prepping for NY pizza blitz. The pizza here is solid, relatively "thin" but def not the NY thinness, also it was not crispy.
google avatar

Jeff I.

Yelp
Pauly's used to be my go to place for a chicken parm sandwich since it was good and close to where I live. For the past couple of sandwiches they've been serving what tastes to be canned, tasteless chicken bits instead of a breaded chicken cutlet. At a point where I'd rather take the 10 min drive to Filippi's. Sad to see how they've fallen in quality

Yelp
I Found this spot coming back from CBX. It was a little late for a Wed. night 8:30p so I can't speak to the ambiance, but the service was wonderful. Friendly staff, nice tables, chairs, and stools. Clean little place that looks like a perfect lunch spot! I ordered a Stromboli and paid. While I was waiting, I noticed a bottle of salsa in their condiment basket, low and behold STRAIGHT HABANERO SALSA molcajete style (a little chunky) it looked amazing and I just couldn't wait, I had to try it. I was immediately warned about the spicy level, but not gonna lie, I do scare some people with the level of heat I'll eat! I was told Niko hand makes this treasure on the weekends. I love Habanero salsa, It goes so well with so many foods, but I don't put that sh!t on everything, that's not what it's for! The Stromboli came looking so tempting that I really had to hold off to snap this picture! I've got to say, this is the right size, right weight, and F'n Delish! The salsa perfectly kicked it up. Really nice balanced flavors, not salty, not sweet, not heavy it was just right! I live in Costa Mesa and I most definitely will be back here when I come down this way!! Try it, it's PIZZA!

Yelp
The sauce was very sparse, bland, and lacked seasoning. The crust was even more bland, not the worst i've had but very lackluster. We ordered one meat lovers pizza and a cheese pizza. The meat quality seemed pretty crappy, the bacon was somehow fatty and tough at the same time. I hate to say it but i've had better and more flavorful pizza at Little Ceasars . I don't often leave bad reviews but it was really disappointing, maybe they were having a bad day ‍

Yelp
ah, this pizza joint has been my favorite for the past couple years. it's heavenly, tastes similar to a New York style pizza. The cheese is really good and I have several favorites on the menu. The TKO is pepperoni, meatball, bacon and is def a meat lover's fav. So good. For a while, I loved the Pauly's Walnuts (which does not have walnuts) and is always a good choice of mix with meat and veggies. I've also ventured with buffalo chicken and pesto chicken which are both delicious as well. I always order on the phone for pickup and the lady is sweet and direct. They also have great option for gluten free pizza and I highly recommend it for that when needed. It's great for friend get togethers as well as the desiring craving for pizza pizza thanks Pauly's!
google avatar

Joe Q.

Yelp
Been coming here for over 10 years and even when it changed owners at some point, the quality is still the same. I've been to New York once and tasted pizza there. I'm too old to remember, but if I had to bet the pizza at Pauly's would be a fair match. Their thin crust style and multiple topping pies give us customers a great variety. I usually opt for the 2 slice + drink combo. It's a great place for a quick lunch. Just be weary of the tight parking in the area.

Yelp
Where do I begin..? Does anyone know how properly spell Homer Simpson's drooling sound... I'll take a shot at it Mraughruaghraughraugh!! My god! It's places like this that make me fortunate for hole-in-the-wall mom and pop style restaurants. Their pizza is so good and is arguably the best I've EVER tried. Wanna know a secret, what they prepared me, WAS REHEATED! Could you imagine how good this would be fresh!? Whoa! Keep it up PAULY'S!! Definitely WILL visit again
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Update: still the best pizza in the area, service was great this visit and price is worth it for what you get!

Yelp
Pauly's is a great stop when nobody wants to cook. My BF really likes their pizzas and happily drives for pickup. We've been going there since at least 2015. Food is ready promptly, no frills interior, awful parking lot. We usually get whole pizza, etc. but they have a good variety of slices to go in the case. I've been on a Stromboli kick lately. It actually works out to 2 or 3 meals for me.

Rjjrj ..

Yelp
There are two Pauly's locations in San Diego, this one on Miramar and the other in Rancho Bernardo. Ironically we live in RB, but finally decided to try it out for the first time. You can get individual slices that they'll reheat if you want to try different types. My coworkers and I opted for a fresh pie split in halves, the Pauly Walnuts (combo...named after a Sopranos character...no actual walnuts on it) and the TKO (meat lovers). The crust was perfectly thin and had that NY crunch. The toppings were ample without bogging down the top. One of the better NY pies I've had in San Diego. We also had the antipasti salad which was very good and filling, and the cheesy garlic bread which is super garlicky for you garlic lovers out there. They have a fridge with bottled and canned sodas, beer, and water for purchase. It's a hole in the wall with small tables inside and a couple larger plastic tables outside. Service was very friendly and prompt. The only knock is that I thought the pie by itself was priced a bit higher than expected...maybe there was an extra charge for splitting the pie...I'm not sure. The parking lot is small and the spaces are tight. There are several other restaurants around so plan accordingly.

Yelp
Love this place. The offer Costco sized, thin crust pizza. Pizza is available by the slice and good lunch specials. They have a wide selection of by the slice options that are partially cooked and then finished when you order. So don't be turned off by how the pizza looks in the case. When you order, they will finish cooking it and it will be amazing! Only drawback of this place is the parking. The lot is tight and simply too small for all the business. But trust me it is worth it. I ordered from here for a holiday party and as we were talking about local pizza, 4 different people said this was their favorite pizza.

Dig D.

Yelp
Pretty good pizza slices. Various flavors, lot more white sauce pizza slices than Regents. Bacon ranch pizza is pretty good Parking Plaza has tons of parking What could be improved * tiny signs to tell you what individual pizza slice is which. Currently all the individual slices are unlabeled * pricing per slice is unadvertised. It's $4.8 per slice in Feb 2024. * No public restrooms, but they sell beer?
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered pizza with pesto and didn't get pesto. After a $60 tab, it was more than a little disappointing to get the robotic response that they remove $3:50 from the bill. No apology. Pizza was really quite average, and if 'attitude is everything', the entire experience was well less than average. What happened to customer focus?

Yelp
My hubby was craving for pizza, so he suggested delivery from this place. They were closing soon, so we just picked it up instead. We ordered the large Hawaiian with pepperoni and jalapeños. The ingredients were fresh and I liked that the pineapple came in big chunks. The dough was on the thin side, which was perfect for us. The owner was very nice and friendly as well. Great place for some yummy pizza!
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Great New York style pizza slices - thin, large, and filling. They have their own parking lot which is convenient. Ordered for pickup a couple times - when they were running late they offered to deliver it directly to my car. Customer service from Ximena was very friendly. I prefer their slices that have 3 toppings, due to the size of the pizza less is more!
google avatar

wayne k.

Yelp
this place changes names and probably owners. at this location it's no longer pauly's. these giant pizza places are more for volume than quality.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Great pizza. IMO for New York style it's too thick. When I fold it in 1/2 it's too thick. But it's still tasty. Had the meat lovers and combo style. Also the ricotta cheese and mozzarella with tomato and pesto. I can't speak to the price bc my friend treated.
google avatar

Rishi V.

Yelp
Ordered takeout on Sunday afternoon from Pauly G's Friendly staff Great pizza Many places now are greedy with paper goods and if you ask for other stuff such as cheese or red crushed peppers My wife ordered a gluten free vegan pizza and loved it. They do their best job to not cross contaminate and they said that on their online menu which we appreciate Kids got a cheese and pepperoni pizza and everyone was happy Our group loved the place and we couldn't be happier
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
Not impressive, the pictures and reviews are deceiving. I ordered an 18 inch pizza and not one slice had any flavor... they even left out some ingredients we requested. Props for the fast service but I was much better off ordering at dominoes :)
google avatar

Jr A.

Yelp
Wow just wow! Pepperoni and Hawaiian pizza were just the perfect crunch and flavor. Dough was almost a sweet taste! Just a great pizza experience. Unfortunately I did try the combo supreme pie slice. That had too much going on for me. It started falling apart midway through me eating it. The other 2 slices stayed perfect all the way through. Great experience. You'll love it! I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
First time ordering from Pauly's! Being from NY I really appreciate a great pizza. Will definitely order from Pauly's again. Fast delivery too!
google avatar

Myton L.

Yelp
Got the chicken parm sandwich and it was good. The prices of chicken was out into small size pieces which was hoping to be one big piece made into a sandwhich. Haven't tried the pizza but it looks good. Might have to check that out next time.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Our go to pizza spot for easy large pizzas to bring home to the family. Our favorites are the white chicken pesto pizza, veggie, and sausage peppers & onions. Love that they have some more unique toppings like meatballs, ricotta, artichoke hearts, etc. perfect for making your own :) In a strip mall so very easy parking!

Ben A.

Yelp
if there was a zero, I would leave it. I scheduled a door dash 4 hours in advance, and when I noticed that the order wasn't even confirmed 3 hours later, I called and they said "sorry, we're closing early and cancelling your order". So now, here I am with 7 people at my house, trying to find another place last minute to order from. Awful service and will never order from them again.
google avatar

Joey W.

Yelp
Hidden gem! We found this pizza spot on Yelp when we decided to venture out from our go to pizza spot. It's New York style pizza and one of my friends from New Jersey said this was almost as good as east coast pizza. Mikey Show (pepperoni, sausage, ricotta, jalapeño) - 16" for $22. The jalapeño and ricotta balanced each other out. I loved the kick from the jalapeño! The tomato sauce had a hint of sweetness to it which contrasted the savoriness of the pepperoni and sausage. The pizza crust was thin and sturdy - you can fold it in half and it'll still hold up. The crust was soft and chewy, it would have been perfect if it was a little crispy.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
I wished we lived closer. We'd have pizza bellies because we'd eat here more often. They sell pizza by the slice which is perfect for the people who like variety (Me). You can get 8 slices on whatever is in the case and make your own pizza mix. Heaven. My favorite is their Buffalo chicken pizza and good ole' pepperoni. And the pesto, and their white pizza... Friendly and fast service. Parking is tight but worth squeezing out of your car to get food here.
google avatar

R B.

Yelp
$4.75 for a single slice of pepperoni pizza is not reasonable. The pizza is decent, and I understand inflation is hitting everyone, but nearly $5 for one slice... Nope.
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Great pizza on our vacation! We ordered the 18" cheese and it was delicious. Hubby had anti pasta and wings. Both were great.
google avatar

Ethan M.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall pizzeria! The owners are funny, friendly, and made a great first impression. The vegan pizza was really good. Just a red pie so no vegan cheese, but flavor was really good in its own right. Great sauce and thin, crispy crust. Would love to see vegan cheese in the future. Highly recommend
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Best pizza in San Diego! Delicious and great customer service. People were so nice. It's cool to go to places like these!
google avatar

Vicky C.

Yelp
I tried Pauly's for the first time today and my husband and I tried 5 different slices - TKO, Pesty, BBQ, Christmas pie, and Pauly Walnuts. The flavor of each of the pizzas was pretty good and the toppings were plentiful. The crust under the pizza was pretty thin and maintained it's structure. It was also pretty crispy. My only complaint is that the crust not covered by the toppings is a bit too doughy for my liking. After eating 2 slices, my jaw felt tired from chewing so much. Overall though, the pizzas were good. My favorite was the TKO. The marinara sauce and the meatballs were such as delicious combo. Pesty was also a close second. I think it was one of the best pesto pizzas I've ever had. I'm sure I will come back.
google avatar

Cathee C.

Yelp
Not half bad for this side of the Mississippi! I'm a fan of New York style pizzas as thin crusts are ideal for me. Although Pauly's crusts aren't as thin as other NY pizzas, it was cooked well and had good flavor. They don't skimp on the meat. The Pauly Walnut was PACKED with toppings, which prevented the crust from being thin and crispy but still delicious. The star was the bbq chicken pizza. It didn't overflow with toppings which allowed the thin crust to shine through. Bbq chicken and bacon is a winning combo. Prices aren't bad and the full menu is on their website. Whole pies were huge and filling. I definitely look forward to trying other toppings here.

Yelp
This place is the best, most underrated pizza joint in San Diego. We found this gem on one hungry late night, close to closing. No one was around and we asked if they were still open. To our surprise, we were given such a big, warm welcome by the owner - Pauly. After we ordered, we looked to the wall to our left and see an old picture of a man masterfully tossing a giant pizza in front of some kids. Pauly says "Pizza making's a young man's game," and smiles. A look around the shop and we see that the place has history and heart. It is oddly familiar and comforting. We watch Pauly hard at work on our pizza: half Pauly's Walnuts (hilariously with no walnuts), and half Chicken Pesto. He asks us about how our day is and we chat a little while we wait for our pizza. When it was done, he gave us our warm box and sent us off with a genuine, satisfied good night. We hopped into our car and left feeling happy with the pleasant experience - and I haven't even written about the pizza yet! We come home, open the box and the pizza still warm and fresh. Now, this is not your typical California, gluten-free, cauliflower crust, artisan pizza. It is the simple, wholesome, true pizza pie. Suffice it to say that it was absolutely delicious and that we were so happy to have leftovers the next day. Since then, we have come every single time for all our pizza cravings. I don't know much about Pauly, but from the little that I know and see, he has been doing this for decades and the place is a reflection of who he is. Pauly's Pizzeria has character, heart, history, humility, care, hard work, love - and some damn good pizzas. For anybody that's reading this and thinking about coming, I would encourage you to go inside Pauly's, sit and watch the people that come through the doors and order, so you can see for yourself the love the local community has for this place and for owners Pauly, Mona and the pizza.
google avatar

Keith M.

Yelp
If you're looking for classic New York and cost pizzas Polly's is very close. Mostly to take out joint, there are two tables but not a lot of ambience
google avatar

Heidi F.

Yelp
We had an 18 inch pepperoni pie with mushroom and the Meatball Roll. The crust is perfect! Finally an east coast pie! Quality pepperoni, and fresh veggies. The sauce was robust and bright. The crust has that oh so slight chew with a crunch. The Meatball Roll- the dough still needed a little more time in the o en so I may ask for that next time we order it, but no problem for us because we just put it in the i en while we tried the Pie. The sliced meatballs, sauce, cheese, and garlic ratio we're good! no skimping on this one definitely a good choice. will definitely order again

Yelp
Having lived in nyc for 15 years, i have had my fair share of 'ny pizza' and its many variants. If this place was in nyc, it would not feel out of place. This place is legit but it wouldnt be the best in nyc...pretty good for san diego. Small and oddly shaped parking lot, so expect a wait to park.
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
When we came in the case was pretty much wiped out. The kids got slices they wanted but me and my wife ordered pies. I ordered a vegan pie. I ordered it with tomato mushroom and red peppers, they let me know they were out of mushrooms so I asked for spinach instead. my pizza came with spinach, tomatoes, olives, artichoke, green bell pepper, and red onion. I'm guessing they were out of red pepper too and just loaded on a bunch of veggies. I ended up picking off most of it. It said on the menu they make there own house vegan cheese but it tasted like daiya or vio life to me. I appreciate the vegan option but it wasn't what I ordered.
