Google
Great selection of whiskey and beer. There are several good food options in the shared building area which is great in the summer and winter. Nice, chill place to hang out and grab a drink!

Google
What a great spot to hang out. Food and drinks are fabulous. Paydirt is dark and sexy with a huge selection behind the bar. Bartenders are friendly. Sitting outside is fun when the weather is right. Choice of food is awesome. Mexican, fried chicken, pizza, pho, it’s all good. Parking is street and we were a block away but not too far.

Cyd G.

Google
We love paydirt, this is a great local bar with lots of drink options and local beers. Grab a drink, chose some food from one of the 4 local food booths, then grab a seat either inside or outside. Outside there is a large, covered patio with fire pits, plenty of seating for you and your friends. Clean restrooms, open and spacious floor plan, booths or bench tables, or belly up to the bar. This is a great establishment for locals and tourists alike, you will definitely find something you like here.

Google
A good open space to go enjoy a drink on a nice day or a rainy day as they have an indoor common area to sit in and also outside area. The selection of bourbon here is great, and there's a bit of something for everyone. I enjoyed the typical old fashioned while munching on snacks from the food in the surrounding area.

Brian C.

Google
First time here, Can't say anything for the food, I only ordered a beer The bartender didn't seem happy that I wasn't a regular, I am currently sitting in the in open patio area, and there is what looks like to be a 8-10 year old boy running around unsupervised burning sticks in the firepit, minors are cool, but isn't there a time limit? I mean it's approximately 10pm. Ita not my child, but I think management and ownership may need to inquire about this

Andrew S.

Google
Solid little spot for a drink. They have excellent scotch choices and even more excellent Japanese whiskey choices. The outdoor vibe is on point, with a moving ladder for their liquors. Definitely suggest going.

Dandy

Google
There's a new overhang and the garage doors are in working order! Also, new booths in the common area.

Google
Food = didn't have any Service = top notch , warm welcomes, and ready to support with hospitality Atmosphere = really cool vibe , nicely done interior feel, dim lighting , good dj and music , awesome bar set up. Drinks = decent spread of some draft beers and loads of specialty drinks. Would recommend a stop in. I was traveling from Detroit and gave this place my stamp of approval for vibe check! 🙌

Yelp
I love their Photo Booth! Reasonably priced. Plus you get one color strip and one black/white. Very cool!

Yelp
Affordable, divey bar to grab some drinks to wash down your boxcar pizza or other little food places all in a central location. Grab a drink then sit outside or take a few spots inside. Happy hour 3-5 pm, I just missed it by a minute or two but enjoyed a $7 cava off the menu. Lots of cocktails to choose from a if it were a little later in the night, would have gone for the whisky.

Yelp
Came out for post wedding cocktails with friends and happened upon Paydirt. There were a few customers outside, we really enjoyed how open the bar felt, and able to still have a conversation among ourselves without feeling like we were yelling over the music. We were able to get our drinks quickly, all were priced well and tasty! Next time we are in town we will definitely stop in again,
google avatar

Yelp
Nice seatings under covered area or patio. There is a bar and then there are restaurants within this building (Mexican, pizza, fried chicken) It's street parking and it can be difficult because of how this building is situated and the design of the street.

Yelp
Great cocktails, try the Fantastic Mr. Fig! Solid Old Fashioned and lots of whisky to try.

Yelp
We bring our board games and tuck our selves into a booth! Bartenders are awesome and give quick service! And they have CBD on tap which is a plus. The lighting is darker but still enough light to play board games! They also allow for us to bring food in from all the other places!
google avatar

Yelp
This bar serves great cocktails. Lots of options to choose from and friendly service. Fun food places to choose from at the same location.

Yelp
Fav dive bar that doesn't feel like a dive bar. Highly recommend. Every time a friend of mine is visiting Portland, I HAVE to take them here. Everyone always leaves happy. A huge plus is the food options in the same building. There's something for everyone. Also love that they have drag bingo once a month!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
Great drinks. Hybrid dive bar and hipster hangout, great live dj and doors flung open to the warm evening. The only complaint is parking, it's atrocious, but you are drinking so maybe take an Uber. Bar service was efficient and informative, which I appreciated!

Yelp
This bar is the perfect addition to the Zipper food park. I thought the vibe inside the bar was super cute and definitely fit the environment that I expect a whiskey-forward bar to look like. $14 cocktails are a little on the pricey side in my opinion, but I understand that with that comes with quality. My drink was pretty good, especially as someone that isn't typically into tequila I still enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this bar for a quick drink with your meal at the zipper, or if you're a whiskey drinker

Yelp
Paydirt was a great bar in the before times and continues to be one in these unprecedented times. I love the upscale food court/eatery design of the Zipper. You can choose from several great dining options and have them delivered to your table where your enjoying excellent drinks at Paydirt. Previously there was a dark and comfy bar to sit in or a spacious and both covered and uncovered area to sit outside. Now obviously it has all moved to an outdoor seating arrangement. The outdoor area is massive and comfy, allowing for socially distant drinks and eating with friends and family. They've kept my favorite item on the menu, which was the boilermaker roulette. A tall boy and shot of the bartenders choosing. A great way to try to new whiskeys without getting decision paralyses, like you do with Netflix. If you're feeling more adventurous, you can join their whiskey club, and attempt to get your name on the wall.

Yelp
Have been coming here for quite some time now, and I'll be happy to say that it is a staple in our "going out rounds." We like coming here at all hours of the day on the weekends as well as in the evenings. During the day, it is typically a little less crowded but it's so nice because they have both indoor and outdoor seating. In the evening times, it can get crowded sometimes and lively because they often have a DJ as well. But another feature I also love is that there is food so close! The staff are always friendly and they try to get things ready for you quickly and in an orderly fashion. They have a variety of drinks and I think you'll be able to find something you'd like even if it's not on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is pretty nice. They do not have a private parking lot but there is plenty of street parking. The front bar is where they have all the whiskeys on displays. This is also where the booths and private tables are located. The back bar is where the community tables and swings are located. Out front they have more tables and a fire pit. They sell Smore kits and it is nice. The place make some pretty Old Fashions. Would love to visit again.

Yelp
This is for sure my new favorite cocktail spot! Friendly bartenders, good atmosphere (they also have a photo booth) and you can venture next-door for food (get the chicken sandwich... you will not be sorry). The music is a whole vibe and you do have to be vaccinated to sit inside. The bartender made me a spicy margarita (off menu) and it was giant. We went in for a quick drink, but ended up spending hours.

Yelp
Busy on a Saturday night - that's a good sign. I like this place. It's a whiskey bar with draft beer options as well as a selection of yummy cocktails and it doesn't feel at all pretentious. It has a nice local neighborhood feel to it, but still has a flashy glass filled wall. There was a DJ so it was a bit loud for us, but we sat in the courtyard area between Paydirt and the food places, which was a little quieter. Drinks were good, but a bit of a hassle to order. The bar seats were completely packed and they didn't really have any openings at the counter to go up and order. We had to pass drinks and cards over and around the sitting patrons. They might want to consider adding a spot to order. I ended up having the a hot boozey coffee: Smokestack Lightning (mezcal, fernet, triple sec, Demerara, chocolate bitters, coffee, whipped cream). It was delicious and well crafted. It was quite potent but very well balanced. We would have gotten another round, but didn't feel like bothering with the hectic ordering process so we went elsewhere. I'd come back here during quieter times, perhaps for some happy hour.

Yelp
This place is super cool vibes... great place to hang out. But for a whiskey bar, I was really disappointed with my drinks.... the whiskey sour had too much sour in it and the old fashioned didn't taste right. Maybe it was just our bartender... but her drinks made me not want to go back. I guess I am a whiskey cocktail snob now
google avatar

Yelp
This is such a cool bar! We kind of randomly picked this spot when we were looking for a cocktail, but we're really glad we did. This is a really cool spot, with tons of seats along the bar, regular seating inside, and a whole patio for when it's nice out. It has a really fun vibe, with cool Smokey the Bear artwork on the wall and things like that. They have a HUGE selection of liquor, especially whiskey. They also have a really good cocktail list with options for everyone. I'm a tequila person, so I had the Mrs. Roboto and the Last Wave. Both were delicious, but the Mrs. Roboto was my fave. Strong without being too much, and also fruity without being too fruity lol - super refreshing! My boyfriend had two of the Old Fashioned Roulette, which is a standard Old Fashioned, but the bartender picks your whiskey. He got a different whiskey each time, but really enjoyed them both! If we lived in the area, we'd definitely be back again :)
google avatar

John T. H.

Yelp
This place has a great vibe, but the cocktails are not worth the price. Everything I tried was un-balanced and I felt I was paying for a named craft cocktail, not a good cocktail. I would comeback but just drink draft beer.
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
This place has 19 kajillion kinds of whiskey, pristinely displayed on a glorious wall of booze. You've probably seen places like this. Heck, Paddy's Bar and Grill downtown also has a wall of booze. But this is different. This is a wall of whiskey. Of whiskey...and in this case, not even all whiskey but mostly Bourbon heavy. An American whiskey bar. Wow. I didn't know there were so many bourbons. This is in the new Zipper building, which is a funky sliver of a structure on 28th and Sandy, which is a micro-restaurant joint. You can go grab food next door and eat it here. It's an interesting place. You should pop in and take a peek.
google avatar

Timothy T.

Yelp
Paydirt has a whiskey and beer special that is a steal if you dont care about the quality of alcohol. Its a cool special that I got just because but knew I wasnt getting the best of the best. The tables get reserved/ taken really quick but they have a nice fire pit outside. Or you can grab a drink and bite at the other surrounding restaurants.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Cool looking vibe, would be especially fun in winter. Beer wasn't especially cold and not very bubbly, but we can get by that if the service was friendly. This tall, thin, tattoo's bartender (Elvira?) would have rather been somewhere else. We tend to revisit places that have friendly service. Would return for those tacos, though!
google avatar

Allen C.

Yelp
Cool place for a drink, definitely a hole in the wall bar. It's connected to a restaurant with good fried chicken sandwiches and fries. Small and has a great variety of different alcohols. The drinks are decently priced and the ambiance is pretty homey.
google avatar

Ekundayo O.

Yelp
Great drinks!! Met friends after a long weekend and had a few beverages that were outstanding!
google avatar

Darbie E.

Yelp
Interesting place. I guess they must get tired of explaining how things work because it wasn't easy getting the bartender to come over to us at the bar to tell us. So there's the bar - Pay Dirt. They only serve drinks. The bar is super cool. My margarita was fine. Not great, but drinkable. If you want food, there are three restaurants in the building, and all four establishments share a common area. You purchase from any of these and can take your food and drinks into each other's space. And that's about it. I've never had a margarita this electric shade of yellow, but it didn't taste as odd as it looked.
google avatar

Jerry P.

Yelp
A bit small but still a fun place. When you come here order the fries early because you are going to want time to down a second order. Best fries ever!
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
We're in here all the time, because The Zipper is a rad place to hang out. The drinks are good, the beer list is fairly unique, and the place is chill, overall. Minus one star because we usually have to wait a really long time to order at the bar (if we aren't the only people there) and the employees that work there have a sadness looming over them. I'd assume it's management like it always is when that happens. Smile, guys. Be stoked. You work at a bar in Portland.
google avatar

Mariko K.

Yelp
Nice variety of whiskeys! Went on a Wednesday night and there was plenty of seating, which is pretty comfy.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
First time at Paydirt and just had a cocktail but I loved their Pickled Martini! Will certainly be back as a regular go to place.
google avatar

Kelsie V.

Yelp
one of a kind spot for drink - kind has a whisky bend to it. I met a friend for a couple beers and the food from the adjoining vendors of The Zipper mall/strip/whathaveyou. I remember coming in here when this place first opened. Glad still thriving. No table service. I waited while the barkeep took care of a couple folks and then got waited on promptly. He was a nice, friendly dude, asking how my day was and such, we agreed how handy and efficient Trimet is - since I was so proud I took the bus there ACROSS THE RIVER, just to meet a friend for a drink, ha. Chill, darkish ambiance. Had the Ex Novo Pale, which at that hour was a mere $5. Happy Hour 'til 7. You may help yourself to seats at the bar or other tables. I ordered food from the Tight Tacos and really enjoyed it. They didn't have to, but the server that came on later, bussed our tables. Gee - good, down-to-earth service.
google avatar

chuck d.

Yelp
Paydirt's bartenders consistently recommended delicious whiskey pours! I can't wait to continue my exploration with my passport once I can dine in again!

Fred R.

Yelp
Last night, Saturday, at 9:23 PM I was refused service at paydirt. I went there because on their website it says they're open till 10 PM. But when I try to order a drink at 9:23 I was told that last call was at 9:15. End of story. You'd think making 2 nice cocktails at 9:23 would be reasonable. Closed at 10 right? No. It's almost like the employees just want to get home early and want to use the last 45 minutes to clean up. They should call last call 10 or maybe 15 minutes before closing not 45 minutes before closing! Don't you want customers during these terrible times? Stick to what's on your website and close at the right time.

S M.

Yelp
Our friends love this place and frankly we cannot figure out why. The drinks are not good (cheap mixers) and there is really no atmosphere. The music is good and that's about it.
google avatar

Paris F.

Yelp
I liked the bar side and how it sort of comes off seedy, quiet bar. Just my personal opinion, its confusing to have the live DJ with a place that seems non trendy and then there is the outdoor food balcony connected to the bar. Also there is no snacks to munch on in the bar. You have to go next door to get brugerish food.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
After lunch in the same area we walked by this place. We went in and grabbed a seat at the bar. It was a nice bar with many bottles and drinks to choose from. They also had beers on tap. Beer - Mahogany Red Ale by Drinking horse with an alcohol content of 5.6%. Nice and smooth ale that was very refreshing. Griswold - Imperial red ale with Cherries by Ninkasi with an alcohol Content of 8.5%. This was a nice clean tasty beer. I really enjoyed this one. The environment was very cool, great music and atmosphere. The bar looks very cool with all the bottles and lights to just light up the bottle just enough. They also have a telephone booth that is really cool and old school. If in the area stop by and grab a beer.

Joe D.

Yelp
Great selection. Good atmosphere. Bartender was cold as ice. I would never bother coming back here. I was literally the only person in the bar. Couldn't answer my questions. #1. What's the most expensive whiskey? Was gonna buy it but she could only say " there's a wide range". So I picked a top shelf bottle and asked how much. She acted as if she was put off she would have to climb the ladder. It was $23. I said I'll take it. She disappeared for a while and soon return I asked if she could tell me anything about it. I figured the $13 dollar tip would have been enough but climbing the ladder again was clearly a pain. Couldn't tell me anything except that it's in Japanese. Maybe the worst bartender experience I have ever had. Sorry to bother you, perhaps my sweatshirt and work pants made you think I was a broke ass street walker. Thank god there wasn't two people in the bar.. wow. Won't be back.
google avatar

Kathryn B.

Yelp
5 stars for environment, 3 stars for service, & 2 stars for taste. Awesome summery outdoor seating away from traffic, with charming evening camp fire. Great for groups. I recommend beers or simple mixes here because their cocktails are actually terrible. I took 2 sips of the big pink before setting it aside. Tried the ramen from next door (they don't serve food), didn't finish that either, but still had such a lovely time with friends in their outdoor space.
google avatar

Yelp
Paydirt Bar is a more relaxed version of Multnomah Whiskey Library, with an emphasis on whisk(e)y and related cocktails. The menu is expansive with a long list of whiskey sorted by style/region, as well as recommendations here and there (eg "try this whiskey in a boulevardier") for whiskey cocktails. There is a cocktail list for those who don't want straight whiskey, and one nice touch is a "bartender's choice" take on an old fashioned, where the bartender can choose a whiskey based on your likes/dislikes etc. Have been here a couple of times and the bartender has always been knowledgeable and friendly with the cocktails always up to standard. One minor negative is that you have to order at the bar - no one checks in on the tables. There aren't too many tables on the inside (it can get loud), but there are quite a few tables outside which is nice for the summer months. There is no food directly within Paydirt, but the bar is connected to a number of restaurants in the same complex that will bring the food to your seat in the bar. At the end of the day, this is a great spot for a quality whiskey cocktail in a casual setting - we live downtown and gladly go out of our way to hang out at Paydirt.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
Paydirt is a new project by Old Gold curated into the Zipper. Their focus on whiskeys is similar. It is spacious with an extremely long bar and tables, with the Zipper adjacent large room and the outdoor fire pit area as an extension. They have a medium size micro rotating tap list and usually at least one cider. The weekend night we were there was busy. The barstaff was efficient, two bartenders and a barback/ chief glass collector/ and bottlewasher combined. It appears to be a popular prefunk some nights; whether for the Hollywood Theater or Revolution Hall. If it is busy when you arrive, it could be empty 15 minutes later. That would be a good reason to pay cash, because cashing out a card when 100 people are doing the same at the same time might take some time. It's not a venue issue, it's physics. Mark my words, with Sandy developing, we will soon have parking complaints like Division. There is a parking lot behind Hollywood Vintage. I think they may have negotiated parking there after vintage store hours - check the signs or ask. There is parking to the South across Sandy, but use the crosswalk at 28th, it would be a shame to be injured crossing Sandy to get to the Zipper. Good new venue, but no elk burger.

Yelp
I had been here sometime last year when visiting my folks and had decided I needed to go back. Fast forward to a Portland trip with my BFF. The atmosphere is laid back and easy going. The bartenders know their stuff and made great recommendations. So much so that we went back the next day. If you like tart drinks try the fizzy wine! I love it! As explained it's essentially grape cider NOT wine! We'll be back!

Steph S.

Yelp
Please please bartenders- taste your cocktails! If we pay $12 it needs to be drinkable. And don't make US feel bad for sending it back. Lots of great cocktails in this city- don't lose your touch.
google avatar

Cindy Z.

Yelp
After dinner, my group found ourselves at Paydirt for some drinks. It's inside this area filled with other spots to grab some food as well like a dining hall. They have a wall of liquor with cool ambiance. Definitely chill spot with some pretty cheap drinks as well. Some of us got a liquor and beer for $7, which is a great deal. There's also some seating outdoors with a fireplace that we huddled around on a Friday night.
google avatar

Molli O.

Yelp
Great cocktails and great service! Came on a Friday night so it was quite busy but there was no interruption to quality service! Bartenders were really helpful and quick. Definitely recommend. Lots of whiskey and tons of other cocktails!
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
After a long afternoon hike, my friends and I were seeking hydration and what can be better than going to a whiskey bar? All jokes aside, if you're in the mood for a fun and low-key ambiance with an impressive selection - you're at the right place! They also have several beer options and a cocktail menu. There is plenty of seating inside as well as outside. Oh, and if you're hungry, no worries! There is a variety of food nearby including Basilisk's delicious fried chicken sandwiches.
google avatar

Dominique B.

Yelp
Checked out Paydirt for the first time last night and I will be returning! Cute bar in the new Zipper building. I like how you can take your drink anywhere within the building, yet they are all separate businesses. These guys really know their whiskeys and the drinks are delicious! I tried the Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour. The inside of the bar is dark and intimate. Small tables and large to accompany multiple size of groups. I can't recall our bartenders name but she was very nice and personable! That can be hard to get in hipster Portland sometimes :p Paydirt your name is odd but I love your bar!
google avatar

Alexis V.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to go to! It's open late, it's a five minute walk from one of my other favorites bars -- Church. They have fire pits outside where you can roast marshmallows and it's comes in a really cute box with graham crackers and chocolate and 3-5 sticks. They have really awesome beer selection and it's 3 places in one, where they serve food and it's kind of like a food hall where you sit down and eat at a family style picnic table. In the summer they open it all up and it's a really awesome place. In the winter, hang inside or by the fire pits - either way you're going to have a good time with friends here.
google avatar

Laura C.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place. The back lit bar was gorgeous. The food court area was large and clean and smelled of delicious foods. The outdoor patio had fire pits and twinkly lights and will be an excellent place for a chill night out with a group of friends. I have no idea how I did not know about this place already but I all of us on the Barfly NYE party bus were thrilled to discover it. While we did not have time to eat, we all grabbed a drink and took some fun photos in the old school phone booth. This is somewhere I can't wait to bring my dinner club to, because there is something for everyone.

Gabe G.

Yelp
At 1150pm my family came in with my sister for her 21st birthday at midnight and the bartender refused to serve her after midnight, stating that it's against the law and then proceeded to tell us we need to leave. So we went to another bar who isn't ran by disrespectful, unprofessional who served us while we laughed at how stupid the bartender at Paydirt is. Fuck this place
google avatar

Lewis H.

Yelp
This place is alright as far as bars go, but I will never come here again. There is a bartender who works on the weekends who is a total twat. It's sad, because I want to keep coming here, but that red-haired guy is pushy and annoying. He seems to take pride in pissing people off. Well...congrats red-haired bartender, you have definitely pissed me off. And Paydirt has lost a regular customer.
