Il Solito Will Roll Into Pazzo’s Revamped Digs - Eater Portland

"Pazzo was a quasi-institution in Portland's Italian fine dining scene before it closed in January. Known for its East Coast black-leather-booth decor, the restaurant was located in downtown Portland and had been a mainstay for 25 years before its closure." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Italian Mainstay Pazzo Also Closed This Week - Eater Portland

"There’s one more establishment to add to the pile of restaurant closures that struck Portland this week, as downtown Italian spot Pazzo Ristorante shuttered earlier this week after 25 years downtown, according to the Oregonian. At least this one (unlike numerous others) isn’t so dire, since it was known months in advance, and Pazzo will return in the spring — well, sort of. The restaurant that takes Pazzo’s space in Kimpton Hotel Vintage will have a new name, and the cuisine won’t change drastically — as Eater previously reported, it’ll be “old school New York Italian food”. Pazzo’s executive chef Kenny Giambalvo had been expected to return, but has moved onto another project, and the position is currently vacant. Since Pazzo also served hotel guests, a kitchen on site will still offer room service breakfast and dinner (brunch instead of breakfast on weekends), and neighboring hotel lounge Bacchus Bar will also continue serving meals and snacks." - Tim Forster

My husband and I went here for our anniversary. Everyone we dealt with was incredibly friendly without being over-the-top. The food was delicious and they were very sweet in helping us celebrate our special occasion.

Showed up here at lunch for pizza week. Excellent atmosphere, good service, delightful hostess. Also ordered clam linguine to round the meal out. Would return in the future.

Our son's favorite restaurant. As il Solito it's still worth the visit. We miss the Pazzo menu though. Best part of our il Solito visit was the fantastic servers like Amy and Leslie who are warm, friendly and knowledgable about the menu. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Amazing Italian spot. Super cute/romantic atmosphere. Awesome service and the food was amazing. I got the stuffed ravioli.

Order the Italian donuts they are the perfect balance for something sweet. Mocha was delicious with the donuts. Then I had the crab salad sandwich, which was the right balance of fullness bit not over stuff. Service was great. Friendly and welcoming staff. Would recommend this restaurant for brunch for any one. Has a little bit of everything.

The Pazzo bar was an incredible experience for my birthday. They provided wonderful service, the baked goat cheese appetizer was delicious, as well as nice entrees. The occidental hefeweizen was a brilliant pairing with the sirloin burger. Our server, Amanda was wonderful, along with the bartender they made our night spectacular. Truly a great experience.

My girl and I went for the NYE Prix fix event. At 85$ a plate and a planned menu one would figure that it would go smoothly. Waited an hour past our reservation to be seated. We were there 2 hours longer and only received 3 of our 5 courses. After being there three hours we had had enough and left before finishing our meal. The food was excellent, and the staff was very good but everything was planned poorly. We basically left hungry after three hours. Our waitress really is the only reason I even give the experience 2 stars. Very dissapointed.

Yelp
I have only been here twice including my recent visit. I never had a reason to not go. I was in the main space at a Christmas party eons ago that was wicked fancy so I just associated this with a fancy dinner. I then kept trying to go for back when we had Portland Dining Month since they always had a really tasty looking offering. Suddenly I see Drag'd to Dinner promoted to see a drag show and order some food and drinks here... sounded like a perfect happening for me to attend and catch up with a few friends for the holidays. The gorgeous Coco Jem Holiday was our hostess and we got treated to a fun line up of drag performers doing great Christmas songs. They had a delightful red blend my friend and I shared a bottle of though I grabbed an extra glass too! RJ was a truly amazing bartender and person and we were so happy that we were seated at the bar. Now let's get the real talk... Chef Casey made me an insanely delicious plate of pasta kissed with pesto, Parmigiano Reggiano, cherries and pork belly. I am still dreaming of this delicious dish and might need to pop in again for it praying it is still on the menu - I cleaned my plate and was in awe as to how perfect it was. I honestly had no idea they had a bar area and that was so great since it seems like a pretty formal restaurant but tucking in for a plate of pasta and glass (or three) of wine at the bar is a lovely way to hang out somewhere on a rainy Portland evening.

Yelp
I almost always run away from hotel restaurants for several reasons. And even though we didn't stay here, I particularly see hotel restaurants as add-ons, have their own captive audience and, I've never had much luck with them. But on our last night in Portland while we visited our daughter during Labor Day weekend, we decided on a quiet, family dinner. There were some hits and misses at this nicely kept Kimpton Hotel restaurant. Yet, they welcomed us with open arms even when we arrived at a little past 9 for dinner when doors closed at 10. There are no restrooms here- so you'd have to go and walk through Kimpton Hotel and down the stairs to use 'em. Our server was skillful and memorized all of our beverages, appetizers and main plates without jotting anything down. Caesar salad for the three of us was scrumptious and wanted more. Their version of ciabatta 'garlic bread' had wonderful roasted garlic cloves and was oh so buttery. We wanted more. My daughter's Shrimp Scampi+seared scallops+linguine was the best dish on the table. Scallops had that terrific char but man- were they juicy. Linguine? Prepared al dente. Hubs enjoyed his salmon- but got like ramen noodles to replace the original side. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I decided on an Eggplant Parm and was so looking forward to dig my fork into juicy layers. Theirs? Eggplant seemed like pre-prepped patties. On a happier note though, the mozzarella was fresh and the tomato sauce was sublime in this (what seemed to be) ready-made dish. Despite that, service was nice at this hotel restaurant.

Yelp
It was really hard to order for pick up due to the line not going through to the restaurant. It just kept looping me back to the hotel. Upon entering the restaurant with my dog, which is why I tried to order via phone, the staff was kind enough to take my order and suggest a place within the hotel to wait for my food. The Burrata salad was so fresh and tasty! Definitely a must if you appreciate that type of cheese. I also had the shrimp scampi pasta was which rich in flavor! In terms of value, I thought the amount of pasta it was served with was skimpy.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by a frequent visit to Portland. All of my items were flavorful and fresh. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and daily specials. All team members were attentive to the guest tables. I had the Sunday dinner and Caesar salad. As impressive as the menu looks, my favorite item was the side of bread. I will also order the side of bread with entree because it is warm toasted and still chewy.

Yelp
I went before the busy rush-hour. I had some fried artichokes mozzarella pizza and bread. The bread was too hard. The fried artichokes were OK and the mozzarella pizza was nothing special.

Yelp
My review of this restaurant is a little weird since I was dining for a free breakfast as a result of my stay at the Kimpton itself. Our server was kind in explaining the menu to us and got our food to us very quickly. We got the pork belly hash and the scrambled bruschetta. They both were great but just a little heavy for breakfast. I managed to eat all my eggs but left most of the focaccia because the ratios were a little off in the bruschetta for my liking. In general this was a good place but the breakfast was alright.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of trying brunch and dinner here so here are my thoughts on the individual services: Brunch- kind of a clusterf&@k Food was great, but the service was strange. Each of our individual items came at very separate times. Almost as if each item was an afterthought to the other. That said, the pork belly hash was a refreshing take on brunch. The pork was crispy and the house hollandaise was wonderful. Dinner was the real winner here- the dinner service team was phenomenal. You could tell they all have a really great energy together and everyone was so friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the food! We tried the Lasagne, spicy meatballs and bucatini, and the focaccia. The sauces on the lasagne made this classic dish really pop. The meatballs were wonderfully spicy and the focaccia was so garlicky and crispy. I nearly inhaled the tiramisu. It was light on the last fingers, but I didn't mind. I paired it was the tastiest cappuccino ever. Overall, food was great. This is solid Italian faire wile in downtown.

Yelp
10/10 across the board for our experience here recently. Went in with not much expectation on a random night that turned out to be very empty there but maybe that's why we had such a good time! The decor inside was one of the coziest spot that I've been to. Yet, the space is modern and open with lots of seatings. They're attached to a chic hotel, which I wasn't aware of but that's pretty cool. Service was friendly and fast. Henry was very kind and cheerful throughout the night. He informed us of the special deal on Sundays: 50% off all wine bottles between $60 and $200. Of course, we jumped on it and treated ourselves to a bottle of Pinot noir. Worth it to come even just for the wine. As for food, we enjoyed everything we ordered. The Arancini was nice and crispy, could be a bit hotter and used more seasonings but I liked that they weren't overly heavy. The Fristo Misto was in the same boat. The prawns and peppers were the best part and they got a super flavorful ceust recipe going on. For mains, we split 2 pasta dishes. My vote goes to the Campanelle Romagna. A new combo for me. I loved the balance of the sweet cream and saltiness from the prosciutto. The green peas were fun too. The Radiatore was not bad by any means. I enjoyed the fun pasta shape and plenty of sausage and broccolini. Both dishes went very well together. They have a good selection of other pastas as well as heartier mains and rotating specials. The cherry on top for the meal was the free prosecco and Chocolate Torte for our anniversary. We really had a good time here and think this might really become our solito going forward!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite. Felt bad because they were about to close but the staff was awesome. Sat at the bar and ordered To-Go. We got the Penne pasta dish and the Spaghetti Meatballs and it was great! The quality of the pasta really made it worth. The ambiance in the restaurant was very cute/date night vibes. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
We went here for the Drag'd to dinner show the other night. What a fun time! I would recommend the show to anyone. The drag queens were so talented, especially the MC, as she sang many of her songs, and had an incredible voice. The show was amazing, the staff was great, and the food was good. I have only two minor gripes, it is nearly impossible to reach a person on the phone. I had called multiple times trying to make sure we were seated with our friend who booked separately, and never reached anyone. In the end, we finally tried to go in when they opened at 5pm, but by then they told us they were fully committed and could not confirm the 3 of us at a table. Eventually they found a place for us at the bar. It was fine, but a table would have been more comfortable. Secondly, I ordered the eggplant, which was tasty but was served luke warm. Overall, it was a memorable night, and we will return.

Yelp
The service is so great I left a $100 tip on a $45 tab. Was that foolish? Maybe, but the service was that good. Plus the food and how this guy was able to make those Irish Coffees!! I feel like Guy Fiery just how enthusiastic I feel about this place and it just recently open and I A++++++ you nerdssss!!!!
google avatar

Nikki H.

Yelp
Service was so great. The shrimp in the shrimp scampi was so tender and juicy 8/10. The bucatini felt like a normal spaghetti and meatballs 5/10. But the pork belly radiatori was amazing! I licked the whole plate clean, only wish it had more pork belly 9/10.
google avatar

Yelp
Really not good at all. I ordered to go and the guy was nice on the phone. The pics looked good, reviews were decent & we were running out of options since most doordash places stopped taking orders after 830pm. We both ordered the meatballs and bucatini and a side of polenta. The food was like Olive Garden meets Johnny carinos but $25 a plate. I've had jarred sauce that tastes better and the meatballs were super tough. The polenta was ok but extremely cheesy. I was pretty sad we spent so much money on food that was mediocre. Also the servings weren't even that big. I guess it doesn't matter because it didn't taste great anyway but still for $25 I was expecting a full box of food. Wouldn't recommend based on the dishes we had.

Yelp
Went to the adjoining Hotel Vintage in downtown Portland for a night of getting away and was blown away by the experience. Very quiet and intimate setting with a view to the kitchen. Our Waiter Devon was amazing! He saw my girlfriend and I at a small table and offered to move us to a larger table. From there my girlfriend and I had a great experience with him. So energetic, engaging, and committed to his profession. The food was amazing! The focaccia bread was unlike any I had before. I can see why it's a customer favorite. Even the Italian salad had the best dressing I've ever tasted. The Marsala chicken was also incredible. Half chicken full of flavor and ample mushrooms! Lastly the dessert! We had the coffee/caramel gelato. Rich and creamy with amazing flavor. The Executive Chef even stopped by to check in and see how we enjoyed our meal! Food was great but again, our Waiter Devon made the experience so much better! We will definitely return and highly recommend.

Yelp
Last night four of us dined here. The food was good and the portions were copious. My husband had the steak special that was an artful stack of perfectly cooked slices. The tiramisu was yummy. The wine list is extensive with a good by the glass selection. But the reason for my enthusiasm was our server Devon who not only provided us with recommendations but whose sense of humor made our evening. When we return it will surely be because of him.

Yelp
EVERYTHING IS HOMEMADE! Food was awesome, Jake the bartender was incredible! Service is on point! Food reminds us of Chicago Italian restaurants! Found ourselves a new regular spot.

Yelp
Connected/inside Kimpton Hotel (IHG). I walked in the whole motif was very classic with jazz or speakeasy and swing music playing, very nice. It really gives you that old-school vibe, and the waiter was dressed as such. The service was quite good and answered all of my questions without pause. I ordered a pasta which tasted delicious, although personally I did wish it had a bit more herbs/spices on it, but it was perfectly fine without them. It's just personal preference. Otherwise, the noodles were cooked al dente, and the sausage and meatball we're super delicious. I just chilled out and had a beer and ate my food while I read the news to wind down after a busy day. There was a bar there if one would like to get together with their friends, but otherwise, it's great regardless. The motif of the restaurant goes perfectly with the aesthetics of the hotel as well, which I was staying at at the time, so the whole package was really a vibe that I enjoyed.

Yelp
Just left this restaurant, and oh boy, I'm low-key annoyed. I showed up at 6 PM, and the place was getting pretty busy. They had a drag show going on - love those! - but sadly, I couldn't see it. Bummer, right? So, we ordered a bottle of wine, a couple of appetizers, and our server let us know things were a bit backed up. No biggie, we decided to hold off on ordering our mains to give the kitchen a chance to catch up. An hour later, we got another bottle of wine, with some input from our server and the manager. But then, like, another hour went by, and we were starting to get a little restless. We told the server we wanted to order our mains and wrap things up. They mentioned the chef was stressed, and there was some chaos behind the scenes. At that point, I knew it was time to talk to a manager. This guy comes over, and after I explained everything, he was like, "the ticket shows an hour, and tonight, it is what it is." He said he'd see what he could do, but honestly? After 3 hours of this mess, only 2 out of the 3 dishes were good. The shrimp scampi with spaghetti was just... meh. It was soupy, bland, mushy, and needed some serious salt. They ended up taking the mains off the bill, so we paid $142 before tip. But no managers came by to say sorry or anything. Seriously not cool. The vibe and decor of the place were great, but I can't get past how chaotic everything was. Sadly, I won't be coming back.

Jenn C.

Yelp
Disappointed. Ordered room service while at the hotel Lucia and this $18 salad was little more than a 1/2 cup of greens. Certainly not worth the cost. Picture taken before eating and fork is touching the bottom of the box.

Yelp
Great food ... great new chef ... wonderful presentation fare price ... well done .. beautiful charming place ...

Yelp
Last New Year's Eve- It took Forty minutes between courses and drinks, so we had to leave before our main course for our concert. Asked for a refund for ONLY what we did not receive, although we paid full price plus tip. After further negotiation Todd Neelands (GM) finally agreed, then accidentally charged us an extra 78 dollars and we never received our refund as well as hear back from him.

Yelp
Literal 5 star service. And the food was so good, I forgot to take pictures of the food. We went out for my dad's birthday and happened upon Il Solito (open on Mondays). They've recently reopened after the 2020 nightmare. Not only is the service prompt, friendly and wonderfully informative but the food was worth every cent and dollar! Also, I personally love when I don't have to ask for more water, and my glass never went empty before someone came a refilled it. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Il Solito was one of my favorite restaurants to dine at in Portland prior to the pandemic. It's an adorable and perfect addition to The Kimpton. I walked past Il Solito 3 times as it was getting ready to open after the pandemic and longed for their garlic knots once again. A sweet gentleman that has been working on the restaurant always caught me as I walked by reminding me it was opening in November and directed me to several other restaurants to dine at as I waited for them to open again. This past weekend I skipped my happy butt down to Il Solito as I was staying at a nearby hotel and knew they had just opened. I was primed and ready to eat two servings of garlic knots by myself and take a bowl of pasta home. To my dismay, the garlic knots were removed from the menu. *cue tiny violin* I nearly cried. The waitress told me several other people had asked for their garlic knots as well-- (ha! Of course! They're delicious!) I took home the Radiatore pasta with flavorful sausage, broccoli and chili flakes. Amazing as always. Still miss the knots tho. ;)

Yelp
We dined there on our anniversary. The food was good (not amazing but good). The stand out was the arancini appetizer. I don't know what the white sauce on the plate was, but it was super yummy. We both had pastas and both here pretty bland - needed lots of salt and pepper to make it better. The pre-dinner craft cocktail drinks were amazing. We had an awesome server, "RJ" that made the evening special. It is a cute place and I would go back to give the food one more try.

Alina M.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place: the food, the service and the atmosphere. Thank you!!

Alyson B.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner and drinks, we had wine, old fashion's, the garlic focaccia bread , the Sunday dinner and the radiatore dish. Everything was so amazing we highly recommend , the service was great as well.

Yelp
Cute little spot, extremely quiet for the holiday weekend but food was good, portions were decent. Bryce was our server and what a doll, great conversation, solid recommendations and made a perfect muddled drink. We popped in from Seattle but will be back eventually.

Yelp
I think Il Solito has all the makings to becoming a place I would really enjoy. I came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and we had reservations at 5:30PM. FYI, if you make reservations via Open Table, their confirmation email will say that you can get complimentary valet parking at the hotel next door. Not true! It's $7 for the first hour at Hotel Vintage or $6 for the first hour in the public parking structure across the street. Anyway, we got to the restaurant a little early so we decided to do their happy hour, which is only available in their bar area. I ordered their Bees Knees, which is a lemony drink with gin and honey. Wow, I LOVED that drink! It was strong, but tasty. We also ordered their garlic knots and the truffle fries. Loved their happy hour deals. Our server was also really sweet. After that it was time for our reservation so we moved over to the main dining area. Our two hostesses were really sweet and wished my husband a happy birthday. I love little thoughtful touches like that. After that, service went downhill. Our waitress in the main dining area was short with us, not very pleasant. We ordered two main dishes: the squid ink bucatini ($21) and the chestnut ravioli ($24). Portions were on the smaller size for the price IMO. I normally love squid ink pasta, but their version was much too salty for me. After eating our main dishes, our waitress came back, quickly dropped off our dessert menus without a word, and left. Not interested in telling us about their dessert options or even just to acknowledge that she was giving us their dessert menu. I was also hoping for a little birthday treat, but we didn't get any. This was my first time celebrating a birthday in Portland. Maybe it's not a Portland thing to surprise guests with a little birthday treat? Our busser was really nice though. Anyway, I'm not sure yet if I would ever come back. Perhaps for their happy hour. Otherwise, I need further convincing. P.S. I came back a second time to order take out. I got their gnocchi for $24... when I got home and opened the container, there was essentially the smallest ladle of gnocchi I had ever seen (see my pic). Unfortunately, I don't think it was worth $24... sigh.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW If you're skeptical about the service, I highly recommend to ask for Nathan as your server. He was very enthusiastic and letting him know it was our first time, he gave us some suggestions on what to choose. He asked if we would like tap water, bottle water or sparkling water. They do have a bread service upon request. They served us sourdough bread with balsamic vinaigrette and EVOO. If you check in, you get a complimentary stuccichini! It is absolutely delicious! Mind you it is complimentary for the table, so don't expect a big bowl. It is a soup that has a hint of lemon taste to it. The food came and it tasted like everything was fresh. I especially liked the chicken. Mind you, I don't always order chicken at the restaurant because sometimes it is undercooked or over cooked. The chicken was surprisingly tender and soft and very flavorful. The service and food was top notch and would definitely come back here.
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
Nice ambiance; semi-open kitchen (you can see the flames when they fly!). The service was at best bizarre (one waiter brought water & a glass bottle of water for the table; another waiter filled our water glasses & took the water bottle from the table!?!?!? They claim the pasta is all made in-house but, while yummy & served al dente, was so close to store-bought spaghetti, I'm not exactly sure what they mean by "made"; I think it's tough-in-cheek for removed from the package, booked until almost done & dressed with a sauce closely mimicking Ragu. The arancini was delicious! The spicy meatball also worth trying to replicate at home. Nice they offered a flight of 4 OREGON wines w/ dinner but the meal & wine were NOT worth the $! The lasagna on BOTH of my dining partners' plates came out BURNT - as in BLACK!!! And the other diner, described her eggplant Parmesan as "atrocious" & "barely edible"! Recommend you go & fill up on the really amazing focaccia & go elsewhere if you're looking for unforgettable Italian...

Yelp
I am officially obsessed with the batter on their fried calamari. I want to put it on other foods: chicken, shrimp, fish, just have some by itself. It is so crunchy and seasoned with whatever good stuff is on their spice rack. The buttered noodles are creamy and of course buttery with a sprinkle of cheese. I'm sure you could ask for more, but with the heavy amount of butter I wanted to keep the cheesiness on the lighter side as is. Yelp check-in offer: I received a little helping of squash puree soup. It is slightly sweet, warm fall dish. I think it would taste great as a sauce for a pasta or soup with added meat/vegetables. I sat at the bar and received great service. The bartender was very attentive and checked in often to see if I needed anything.

Selena E.

Yelp
The focaccia bread was amazing, so was the pasta. The sommelier they had was lovely and super helpful.

Yelp
Excellent food. Excellent service. Staff friendly and accommodating. Was in Portland during their unexpected snow and ice storm and this establishment was prepared to handle the unexpected.

Yelp
Had an fantastic experience in here tonight! This used to be Pazzos, one of my favorite hangouts when I worked downtown. Dropped in here tonight for a special occasion dinner and the food, service, and venue were exceptional. They also have a nice selection of wines very reasonably priced. Our server was Johnny and he was the best! Friendly, helpful, and fast service. Our first time here since it changed hands, and we will definitely be back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Yelp
I am so happy I stumbled in this restaurant. My new favorite Italian spot. It's prefect for date night or group of friends. The bar is very pretty. Garlic Knots- I should have put in two orders. The buttery Italian seasoned mouth watering garlicky goodness. I could have eaten enough to make me full. Osso Bucco- meat fell, literally off the bone. This mouth watering dish is a must. I highly recommend this dish.

John M.

Yelp
Il Solito seriously impressed us. I'll begin with the service, which was friendly, prompt and professional. We felt very well taken care of. The ambiance was simultaneously cozy and upscale modern. Lively music played throughout dinner but wasn't too loud, which felt ideal. The food was the highlight. We got the focaccia bread, shrimp scampi and bucatini with spicy meatballs. All three were delicious, but the shrimp scampi stood out especially as we are seafood lovers. We recommend!

renee m.

Yelp
I thought the food was good, the portions are quite large but we were offered bread and it was not clear we would be charged almost $10. There were only two of us and we ordered more than enough food so when she said 'would you like me to bring some bread for the table' we did not assume she meant another appetizer - that we did not need. I don't like when folks at restaurants try to sell you more than you asked for. When we were clearly done she asked if I wanted another glass of wine - really trying to hard. Based on this I would not recommend.

Megan B.

Yelp
Went to dinner for a friends birthday tonight with a party of 7. While taking our order the waitress was leaning up against the wall and seemed less then pleased to be talking to us. We placed our dinner order which took about 50 minutes for it to brought out ( there were 3 tables in there entire restaurant at the time). All the meals tasted very salty, and the pork belly was OVERCOOKED to A beef jerky texture to where it was almost a choking hazard. We then asked for a desert menu to buy a dessert for the birthday person, and our server then seemed annoyed and stated they " might have something". We then overheard the kitchen say " I guess we have to make some dumb birthday thing or whatever" to which they brought out a scoop of ice cream on a plate. Long story short, the bill was WAY to expensive for the lacking quality of food, and the service. Will NEVER be back and will NOT recommend.

Gabriel B.

Yelp
Well first of all, terrible service. The waitress treated our table of 7 with no respect and no care at all. It was a birthday dinner and when we asked to get a candle with dessert we overheard the kitchen complain about the request. Also the entire tab was over $500 for a very low to mid grade Italian dinner. Food barely had any taste and it felt like we were a burden to the staff. Don't waste your time or money.

Yelp
In town for work and wanted something different aside from boring hotel food. The destination had to be something close, good and boom . . . here I am! Upon entry, the restaurant was very inviting, dark, spacious, cool portraits throughout and the staff was AMAZING!! All menu items sounded so delicious that when dishes came out around me it truly peeked my interest. I have questions about everything so the suggestions came highly recommended. I ordered the Penne alla Vodka with grilled chicken. Normally made with fennel sausage but I wasn't in a sausage mood. This pasta was all types of amazing and filling. It's also a fan favorite along with some other items. Too tired to stuff my face with the dessert so I continued to sip on my Tito's. It's amazing how the prices varies in different cities and the prices surely matched the ambiance, impeccable service and outstanding dishes that were served here. Please come to visit if you are ever in the area to dig in on the good eats! Enjoy!

Yelp
Chef Matt has brought his pasta geniusness from Renata to Il Solito and has created some amazing dishes here! The menu rotates, which is nice because I get to try something different every so often. I think the best way to enjoy this restaurant is to come with at least a few people and to do "family style" so that you can try multiple dishes. The service here has also been top notch on each of my visits. I don't remember any names, but my servers have all been extremely friendly and helpful with any questions about the menu. I must say, I'm pretty surprised that I liked a hotel restaurant so much. I feel like this place gets overlooked because Portland has so many "Portlandy" restaurants and this is just a hotel restaurant, but I think it's worth a try!

Yelp
Visiting Portland for a conference. Food was delicious! Had the Italian salad and pescado picatta. Service was also excellent. Will definitely get back here when possible

Yelp
Delicious food. This place seems like a moderate size restaurant looking in through the windows but it actually extends quite a ways and also has an attractive bar area where a jazz singer was performing. Negroni cocktails were very good ... I hadn't had one in a long time and forgotten how much I like them. Caesar salad delicious and a large portion but not overwhelming. We split two salads among 3 people. Garlic foccacio bread a must! I had the pork belly radiatori and hubby had the shrimp scampi - both excellent. Good tiramisu. I asked for a cup of coffee and the waiter said he decided the drip coffee wasn't hot enough so he made me an Americano. Service very fast but maybe because we dined early and the place wasn't very full yet. We will be back soon!

Yelp
This is a wonderful Italian-American restaurant located in downtown Portland's Kimpton Hotel Vintage. The first thing you notice when you enter is that the space has a super fresh, playful vibe. Gorgeous wall murals and quirky framed photos are everywhere. This is a fun space. The bar is a showpiece in itself with well-crafted cocktails and friendly staff. I sampled their Rosé All Day, Limone Con CioCiaro, and Negroni Sbagliata. You can tell they care about their bar program as each drink was made with a lot of thought and care. Dinner was very good. From antipasti, house-made pasta dishes and an amazing 28 day aged T-bone - all were delicious. They also served an asparagus dish made with a brown butter emulsion and ricotta salata that I will still be dreaming of tomorrow. I've never had asparagus prepared with brown butter and am really impressed with the creativity. Service was friendly and we didn't feel rushed. Overall it was a great dinner.

Yelp
I wish I could say it ain't so-so, but Il Solito was so ... so-so. Our reservation, meant we were seated quickly, but our server struggled throughout the meal with recommendations or attentiveness. No harm really since we came to eat anyways. Unfortunately, the Italian-style food was really ordinary and blah. * Fried Calamari (2 stars) A "safe" appetizer at many Italian restaurants turned out to be too generic and lacking in zest or appeal. Luckily, a bottle of Double Canyon red wine provided solace. * Spaghetti and Meatballs (2 stars) This bowl of pasta and meat gets an A for effort because a lot of flavors were pumped into the cheese, meatballs, and sauce, but sadly they didn't harmonize well at all. My friend only ate half ... and I didn't help out after getting a bite. * Penne alla Vodka with Fennel Sausage (3 stars) The fennel sausage was fine sausage while the penne pasta though not perfect, was totally ok. I didn't hate this dish ... and I didn't love it. I ate it. Mission accomplished, I suppose. * Roasted Broccoli (4 stars) The only thing (besides more wine) that I truly relished was a side order of dark green roasted broccoli served with red pepper and parmesan. We almost fought over the last strand. According to Google, Il Solito translates to "the usual" or "the ordinary" ... and it was. Three a-ok stars for being so-so.

Yelp
we ate here because we were staying in the hotel attached to it. it was a rainy night & we didn't feel like walking anywhere. I'm really glad we made that choice. we were talking with the hostess and mentioned it was our anniversary. the staff brought us glasses of champagne on the house. the food was very good and we had at least 6 different people who were not our waiter come by to refill waters, take plates, etc. the service was outstanding. dessert was great as well. it just reopened, so it wasn't very full, but it should have been. everything was very nice and well put together. so glad it rained & we decided to come downstairs.

Yelp
I took my wife and her mother and sister (in from out of town) here for her birthday. The food was phenomenal and we received amazing service from our server, Harvey. The garlic bread was probably the best I've ever had in my life. We'll certainly be back!

Yelp
Came here on a weeknight for dinner with a reservation for a party 5. The restaurant was honestly pretty empty, so don't think you would necessarily need a reservation to dine here on a weekday! The food was pretty tasty and fresh. We ordered the garlic knots, olives, caesar salad, and special pork pate appetizers to share. The garlic knots were served piping hot, olives were well seasoned and warm, and the caesar salad was fresh (and didn't taste strongly of anchovy). I didn't have the pork pate (I'm pescetarian), but those who did said it was great! For my main, I had the Agnolotti - which was essentially baby raviolis stuffed with cheese and plated in a creamy Oregon truffle sauce with some broccoli. Not too heavy, and well balanced. Would have been even tastier with a touch of zest or citrus for some more acidity in the dish to cut the richness. We also shared 2 broccolini sides, which were well received. Nicely charred, with a slight kick. For dessert, shared the Hazelnut Banana Bundino, which was delicious but super rich. Loved the bananas in this dish. We were also gifted the dessert of the night, which was very generous and tasted outstanding. It was essentially a flat chocolate tart, plated with melted caramel and a scoop of toffee ice cream. The toffee ice cream was AMAZING, by far my favorite element of dessert. Would order the toffee ice cream alone if they served it!

Yelp
The food and service were very good. The restaurant had a fun and warm environment. The eggplant parmesan, lasagna, and focaccia starter were all great. I would go again.
