As Cities Mandate Hazard Pay for Grocery Workers, Groceries Sue | Eater

"A 15‑store regional cooperative initially warned that municipal hazard‑pay mandates would be difficult to absorb—citing nearly double the cooperative’s COVID‑related expenses versus 2019—but subsequently entered negotiations with worker representatives and reached an agreement to extend bonus pay to roughly 700 hourly staff outside city limits in exchange for operational adjustments such as exploring curbside pickup." - Brendan Seibel

Google
Pleasantly surprised with this Co Op. I went in 3x today just to keep looking at different things. First, I love that they have composting and recycling outside of the building, as well as composting paper from the bathrooms. Every place should do this and our waste problems in this country would be alleviated greatly. Second, I love that the produce is organic and much of it is local. Third, I love the bulk bins for food, spices, herbs, and liquids. Good vibes in the store, kind employees, and the Layout of the store is well organized.

Google
I grabbed a few bags of groceries from here. There are a variety of fresh fruit when you walk in as well as a seating area to the right to eat from their cafe, pizzeria, and misc hot food. They had most of what I needed. The layout of the store works well as customers moved around with ease. It’s a nice, clean, and well organized store.

I usually go to PCC Bellevue and that's where I found out about the Kid Picks/free fruit program for kids. They would even offer to wash the fruit for my child when we shop. This morning I went to PCC Issaquah. My child had picked out a fruit that was listed for Kids Pick. We then went to pay for our groceries. The lady cashier made us feel very uncomfortable when we talked to her about the fruit that my child had selected. She emphasized that this is for kids 12 years and below (my child is 12) and that yes the nectarine we picked is qualified as "some people may want to pick a dragonfruit or something". The program is supposed to make us feel welcome and to feel that PCC cares about families and nutrition. Instead she made feel like we are just trying to scam a free stuff. This whole experience is also very uncomfortable for my child. I will not visit this PCC again.

Google
the Issaquah store overall is pretty good. my 2 stars is for the customer service at the deli section which is consistently below par. long waits while one employee serves food while 8 others busy themselves in the kitchen and ignore the waiting customers. the deli staff seem to have zero interest in serving food. but if you don’t serve it you can’t sell it. it’s no wonder that PCC is having financial problems

Google
In general the store is fine, but is it? After I found a plastic piece in their soup, told them employee, he told someone, 20 min late soup is still out there.... Can I trust any of their items are up to par?

Google
Love pcc! Clean, friendly and fresh. They have great sushi you can buy and I love their butternut squash soup!

Google
I always feel just a bit pretentious when I'm at this PCC. That feeling isn't the fault of PCC, it's likely because it is in Issaquah after all. ; ) I can say that ... I live in the Highlands. The staff are very friendly, helpful and kind and this is something you should expect. When comparing prices to their competition in the area, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods via Amazon Prime Now 2 hour grocery delivery and Safeway, PCC loses in every way. PCC however wins on variety against the LOCAL brick and mortar stores. The variety I'm speaking of is for organic, vegetarian, or vegan. For example, if you want strawberries, PCC will be $6.99 for a pack, Safeway 3.99, Trader Joe's $3.99 or $2.99. However if you want Vegetarian or Vegan Lasagna, PCC will have several, whereas Safeway or Trader Joe's will have 1 to 2 options. For me price wins Every time before variety and PCC prices are simply to high when the same times are cheaper within a 5 minute drive.

Nice good selection and very clean store. Price is not expensive side though.

Yelp
I love this market! They have the best chicken breasts--I've tried plenty of butchers and meat markets, and theirs is hands-down superior. The produce is always fresh, and they carry some of my favorite hard-to-find snacks. A go-to spot for quality groceries!

Yelp
I had an opportunity to come here and get some food for lunch. I didn't have much time to peruse the aisles so this is a short review without too many photos. I went for the sushi. No photos. Nothing spectacular to report. Standard store bought CA roll. The sushi person walked away immediately when I approached the counter. No packets of soy sauce available. Chop sticks available and the sushi was decent. Probably won't go there for it again. Should have grabbed a soup! There were so many flavors. I was on a time crunch, aka, lunch break. Probably saved me money. Clean store, wide aisles and friendly service. Large parking lot too. Definitely will be back. Not sure I'll join, it has a membership option for avid grocery shoppers. Which I am, but it is just not a store I frequent regularly. Treat yourself to good food. SYOY!

Yelp
This is much like other PCCs and I an oh-so-grateful it's there in Issaquah. My family struggles to agree on food choices and, as a vegan, I can always find something tasty there. The reason for the 4 star review is that they don't have a salad bar. (They do have a deli and hot bar.) Now, I recognize that it might not be cost-effective; Maybe they've run numbers and can see that they were losing money on salad in the Issaquah area-- and I can't be mad at them for not maintaining a salad bar no one is using. However, it seems to be a mainstay at all other PCC/x so I was disappointed about that. Otherwise, like I said, when you walk in, you know you're in a PCC. It's clean, the products are well-staged, and the employees are kind and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Food is expensive and not great quality. They mark up the prices because people have to go there because of the location. Avoid if you can

Tara B.

Yelp
This place reminds me of a Whole Foods, but better. Great selection of allergy friendly baked goods and groceries Outside & inside sitting area Quality ingredients, great attention to detail like making their own biscuits on their breakfast egg sandwiches

Sharonkay T.

Yelp
I go to this Pcc. Love it here. The employees are great. However, I purchased a vegan victory garden pizza today and found hair on one of the slices. I've purchased this pizza a lot and, while I'm sure this is a fluke it's still gross.
google avatar

Krista T.

Yelp
The cleanliness and staff friendliness at this location are 5 stars. The store itself feels compact and it's easy to be in someone's way. The hot pizza bar is typically stocked with several options to choose from and are usually 2 slices for $6 during the lunch hour, which I think is a decent deal. My only (slight) gripe is that the hot food bar has a limited selection compared to other locations, and it doesn't stay fully stocked. I've found myself waiting 10+ minutes waiting for a new container to come out. Not a huge deal. That being said, the herbed chicken is absolutely phenomenal and worth a trip for that reason alone.

Yelp
Finally got a membership here after realizing that I wasn't going to stop shopping here, even if it can be a little pricey. My biggest wish: more organic meet selection! There's rarely organic pork for some reason. Love the Brown Cow yogurt though, and Molly Moon's and Jeni's ice cream hits the spot. Their vitamin section also actually has vitamin B6 sold alone (e.g. NOT in a B complex), which is super hard to find in other places for some reason. Love that they have organic sunchokes. Still very very disturbed by the giant, fat, LIVING slug that I found in my savoy cabbage. I probably won't buy cabbage or any other unbagged leafy green from here again, but I'm glad they've often got figs, and their kouign aman in the pastry section is tasty!

Yelp
Love this place! Great prepared foods and wonderful selection of cheeses. Staff is helpful and easy to talk with. Lots of interesting food that cannot be found elsewhere.

Yelp
We stayed across the street at the hotel. We were looking for some breakfast fast & it did just the trick. Although, self serve buffet was great it sure was spendy. I did like all their options though.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
This community grocer simply has the best produce, bakery, and grab and go foods in the issaquah, Lakemont area! The produce is always fresh, mostly organic and come from local farms they personally have relationships with. Bakery items are tasty and not sugary sweet. I love the Apple pie, cookies and carrot cake. Lots of delish take home foods if you don't feel like cooking again made with healthy yet tasty ingredients. Best PCC brand frozen blueberries and peaches too!

Yelp
I was so excited to come visit here on my way home from SeaTac. I was looking for coconut cult yogurt and it was no big deal that it was out. The person in the supplement section was nice but she directed me to the dairy aisle and called someone else to help me. The other employee was yelling at me from behind the yogurt and milk (where they stock from behind) so I could barely see him. I asked if he was the one who could help me and he said "I guess" and then proceeded to be short with me. I was disappointed they didn't have the yogurt but more disappointed at how rude he was about helping me. I felt like a huge inconvenience. I went over to get a coffee from the cafe but unfortunately no one came over to help me so I ended up leaving. Don't think i will come back as I have a better experience at Whole Foods and the same selection.
google avatar

Dan B.

Yelp
Excellent store. Limited selection, but everything was fresh and organic. People are super friendly and helpful in the store. It's also 5 minutes from where it's staying. Everything adds up to excellent!
google avatar

Jboogie L.

Yelp
$60/lifetime membership. I find that even with discount and sales, it's still pricey place to shop. I guess there is no Whole Foods near by so this will have to do?
google avatar

Riko V.

Yelp
Who doesn't love PCC? It will cost yah. You will get half the groceries than u would at a regular store but you can't deny that the blueberries taste like blueberries. They are better than Costco and I like Costco. Sometimes cheaper is not better. Tomatoes are yummy. I love the emerald city Salad, salmon cakes and Italian sub. The chicken Caesar salad so good but I don't use the dressing. I buy there store made ranch dressing. Oh so good!!! I love trying new food. Man I'm getting hungry thinking of that salad.

Yelp
I would travel to Issaquah for work often and be put up at the hotel conveniently located across the street from PCC Community Market in Issaquah. It was quite a drive so I'd be tired upon arrival but would perk up after hotel check in because I couldn't wait to see what dinner awaited me inside the market at their hot deli and bakery. Mind you, this was all pre-Covid, so everything was delightfully displayed and pleasantly warm to fill the tummy. Oh... there were also organic chocolates and warm teas (only place I've seen that has Yerba Mate tea ready to pour!) to help complete the meal. Before I'd help myself to the food selections, I'd shop first to find a nice Epsom salt/ essential oil combination for my bath for the evening and stock up on the Uncle Harry's toothpastes, mouthwashes and other oils. Great items to purchase for the home and for gift- giving. Thank you PCC Issaquah for helping be my home away from home!

Yelp
Great looking fruit and organiccve are stars of the somewhat picked over the produce department that greeted me this visit two hours before closing the night before thanksgiving. The deli case was almost empty, like they're trying to use everything up, but was not closed early. Deli clerk was apologetic about lack of selection but offered no explanation for or any kind of On when the deli would be restocked with its usual staples nor was special ordering for future pick up offered. The cheese and meat department are so far from the deli that I forgot to visit them in my search for an employee to inquire regarding the location of fresh garlic- turns out they had none. Again. No one offered info about restocking dates or asked me any questions about my shopping needs. Checkout clerk was pleasant I guess.

Yelp
I love being able to get local organic food but I do not appreciate the ableism. I use a wheelchair and sometimes I need to ask for help to grab items out of my reach. The worker's seem annoyed to be asked for help. I've been ignored at the deli counters as well. It makes me not want to go out anymore.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming to PCC for a long time and we have never been disappointed! We love that PCC is one of the grocery stores that are open later aside from the 24 hour QFC- We always go on night runs to grab some cravings like cake slices, vegan ice cream and chips! Whenever we go grocery shopping all the staff are really kind and helpful :) As usual, I will be coming back very soon!
google avatar

Katie F.

Yelp
They have a wonderful selection of everything local, wonderful meats and what should be fantastic vegetables. However, after finding living bugs crawling around one too many times through my kale and broccoli...I think I'm done buying veggies here. It might be up someone's alley, but having a living worm crawling across my cutting board is just not appetizing.
google avatar

Jack D.

Yelp
I have been a member of co-ops for many years, PCC is a great health food store. I am able to buy all my groceries here, the selection of gluten free items is extensive. Organic produce is plentiful too. I do my produce shopping at West Seattle Farmer's Market on Sunday, However here I can find anything I need and more. There is a Trader's Joe near by that I also recommend to complement your groceries shopping.
google avatar

Sheri H.

Yelp
PCC is a great NW chain, and this location is bigger than the others I've visited. Open at the crack of dawn, it was really convenient to come in and buy some bobby pins on the way to work at 6 am. Great grab 'n go options for lunch and breakfast. Very clean, organized and healthy!
google avatar

Steph G.

Yelp
PCC IS MARVELOUS. I often wish we had a Whole Foods in Issaquah but PCC gets my grocery list items checked off just as well. They have a nice selection of gluten free items and their wine selection is also wonderful. I've recently switched from soy to nut milk and I love the variety they have at this location. They even have oat milks which are so hard to find these days! The staff is super helpful even at 6am when they are just opening and the early birds like myself stroll in. The store is always fully stocked, organized, and clean. My weakness here are the snacks! Such delicious options and I always walk away with way more than I planned to buy. If you want a nice option similar to Whole Foods this is your place!
google avatar

Kylee L.

Yelp
Clean place, nice people. If you're looking for a good picture this is the one with the most variety of stuff. Has good checkout and nice staff members. I'm very happy with my visit and will definitely come again.

Esmeralda L.

Yelp
The food here is amazing they have a hot bar and a soup bar and much more food they have a bakery a place with sea food and pizza great prices the service is amazing kids get a free vegetable or fruit you can take it home or you can have i there the staffs cut and wash a Pell amazing they got cooking classes super fun super fun much more I have benn coming here for 10 years
google avatar

Prajna T.

Yelp
I've never been to a PCC as big as this one, and it was awesome. I usually went to the West Seattle one that is now closed, and was surprised to see how much larger the selection can be. Excellent produce and great prepped foods here. I would go back for their deserts for sure. I had Runa tea and bought a ton of essentials. This location has a rich selection of natural products, I bought a luxurious bees wax chap stick. There is a costco near this location and we will check that out next time. Super excited to have sound this spot, will be back for sure!
google avatar

Thao N.

Yelp
Their selection in nuts are quite phenomenal, every type of nuts in every combo and flavor possible. I enjoyed snacking on their variety of beef jerky sticks also, I recommend grabbing a few so you can get your protein during the day. We stopped by here on the way to Fall City to float on the river and was able to grab a bunch of food to store in our dry bag. They have prepared packaged lunch or hot food for you to choose from, the choices seem a lot healthier than the deli at Safeway or QFC. There's some things that might need to be heated up, no problem, there's a working microwave and toaster oven in their dine in area with a water pitcher. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Eileen K.

Yelp
Great selection of produce that lasts longer than other grocers I buy from with less packaging. Great price on bulk dog bones and even better that they don't come in plastic packaging. Also like that some bread comes in paper packaging sans plastic. I'm trying to go zero plastic next year so PCC has become a more frequent part of my monthly grocery shopping. Keep up the great work of finding vendors that strive for sustainable product packaging. Would like to see more of that in your wellness category and elsewhere throughout the store. I use Amazon to by products like Ethique personal care for example.

Yelp
Ordered a Birthday Cake, spent 20 minutes on the phone with PCC Issaquah while they filled out their form, with all the details on color, fillings, decorations. Assured me they would input it immediately. I showed up about 10 days later, on delivery day, to pick up. They couldn't find it. Went back and found the order and came out and told me "Oops, sorry can't fill this order today, it was never called in". Tough for you! ...and I am left hanging with no BD cake for my kid. They said I could pick a free cake from their display (the had about 3 total, 2 were gluten free ). And they couldn't write HB on the cake even, because I don't know, bad customer service... Anyway, this was the 2nd time they did this to me! PCC has gone so corporate, so overpriced now. Disappointed, have been a loyal customer for years, but no longer.
google avatar

RL S.

Yelp
Worst fucking pcc ever. They're real stingy with customers using the back room to eat and work on their laptop, even when nobody's using it the rest of the day or even several hours before their classes even start. I've never seen this at any pcc except for this one. It's some fucking bull shit considering how much money I've spent at many PCCs over the years. Some egregious bullshit.
google avatar

Yc T.

Yelp
We like to come here for honest good food. Nice and friendly staff. Good varieties to pick on all departments. Only complaint is fresh flowers. I've purchased several times and they don't last for a week at all. The longest was 3 days! I've had other fresh flowers from other stores and they lasted longer than what I had from PCC. That's why I didn't post for 5 stars.
google avatar

Ryan P.

Yelp
I find this location to be the most poorly managed out of all the locations. They always seem to be out of things especially vegetarian deli/sandwich offerings and the staff definitely acts like they don't give a f*ck. Considering the prices you would think they'd be all about the customers but not at this location. I only come here occasionally but will probably skip moving forward. I'll stick with the Fremont location for my grocery needs. The frustration and lack of service are not worth the price tag.
google avatar

Brendie W.

Yelp
The PCC of Issaquah was very clean. The selection of healthy foods was very impressive. I love that they carry a local brand of yogurt called Ellenos. The fresh smoothie bar is perfect day or night. I was under weather when I was traveling through nut so thankful for the pharmacy area and healthy foods! Its a must shop if in the area.
google avatar

June F.

Yelp
Love this market!!! Had their minestrone soup with meat and their health salad and some roast beef. It was all delicious. The next day I couldn't wait to come back to try some breakfast items and met Melinda at the yogurt bar. She was so sweet and helpful and when I couldn't decide between 2 flavors she offered to give me a sample of both. They were awesome and so she made me a yogurt with both. So Accommodating and so pleasant. The yogurt was awesome and so was the coffee! Wish they had a store like this in NY!

Robert G.

Yelp
After checking out my groceries that came to $7.88 I handed the cashier a $20 bill which she accepted and was told that after this they would only accept the exact change. I guess PCC doesn't what my business. Bob G

Yelp
I loved this place until encountering a pretty rude unprovoked behavior from the guy behind the meat counter. I complained to the manager at the checkout, but the guy did nothing to address or let me know that he will address later. He just continued with helping at the checkout. Even the lady at my checkout counter was surprised by his in-action. All in all, they need to step up their customer service before Whole Foods/Amazon known for their superb customer service gobbles them up.

Yelp
One bad experience ruined PCC for me. I was using self check out , I'd asked the attendant for assistance but she was preoccupied by a fellow male coworker... I had two different orders to purchase as I was shopping for a friend as well. My first purchases were fine but the second order I had questions about the proper ringing out of the soup I'd gotten.... the woman I had waved my hand at snd asked politely for help continued to have a personal conversation with her coworker so I made a guess ...I paid for both of my orders... and the first step I made out of the exit door ... a large young man placed his hand on my shoulder stating I was to follow him back inside... that he wasn't going to arrest me but I had not rung up my soup properly and owed them 70 cents. I was humiliated and in tears stating I'd asked for help and had not got it, to keep the soup I no longer wanted it... he marched me up to the checker and I paid her 70 cents... she looked at me with such disgust and distain. I'm a 60 year old retired nurse ... dedicated my life to helping others.... I said if you saw me doing the wrong thing , why did you not help me , why did you wait for me to leave to humiliate me? Clearly, I was trying to pay properly for my items. I no longer shop at issaquah PCC... I have complained to the manager who apologized But there are way too many good options in issaquah that are less expensive than PCC.

Cindy S.

Yelp
This store is beginning to disappoint me...I have been a long time member of PCC. Lately, the produce has left a lot to be desired..not as fresh-looking as in the past and the prices continue to creep up and up. I have to admit, the organic section at Fred Meyer is beginning to look a lot better than what I find at PCC in Issaquah. In addition, the deli counter offerings seem sparse. I was there before the lunch hour and the case seemed about half full. I also had a recent encounter with a rude deli employee....first time this has ever happened. Hopefully they will not attribute the lower standards to "Covid".
google avatar

Nora S.

Yelp
I just love this store! Yes, it is expensive and yes it is smaller than Whole Foods and with less selection. But the quality of everything is so superb. I'm not sure if I would come here on a regular basis for groceries because of the price (but also the distance). However, I highly, highly recommend the prepared foods. They have a breakfast bar in the morning and a salad bar for lunch (which I have yet to try). The prepared salads are to die for. The breakfast is gourmet and they have the best vegan scones I have ever had. Actually, the vegan scones are some of the best scones I have ever had and are definitely better than their non-vegan variety. I'm already craving their breakfast again.

M H.

Yelp
Favorite grocery store. Great selection of fruit and pre made items. Come here when we need to quickly grab something for dinner or road trip.

Rian S.

Yelp
I don't know why it has taken me so long to write this but I felt compelled as I got my coffee from the incredibly sweet Sally this morning (who needs a raise if corporate is listening ). From Sally to the super kind guy who buffs the floors in the morning to the folks who fill the hot bar, I have received nothing but smiles and kindness and efficiency. Mix that with incredibly fresh sandwiches and other lunch items and a ton of variety on the shelves and you have a most amazing store! I have been coming here every morning for breakfast and lunch during the work week for 7 years now and feel so lucky that this gem is in our town. Keep up the amazing work y'all! You have a super fan!!

Yelp
I wish I could afford PCC because I would solely buy all my groceries from here. What's not to love about healthy, fresh, and local products? The hot food bar during lunch hour is always hit and miss. If you get there past noon, then a lot of the food is nearly gone. They do replenish, but you may have to wait 10 or so minutes. I love their Moroccan seafood rice dish and beef stroganoff. They also serve freshly made cheeseburgers, which are solid. Sometimes I will come in for breakfast, and they'll always have turkey sausage links and cage-free eggs in the hot bar. The bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is good, but they recently changed from a biscuit to now a standard bun for the bread. I liked the biscuit much better.

M H.

Yelp
Stopped by today to get an early lunch. There were flies in he baked goods case and when I mentioned it to someone who worked there heir response was, " We are aware of it." If they are aware then they should do something about it. That's not the first time I have seen flies in their cases. They should do something about this because it's a health hazzard. Update: o don't need to call anybody at your store. What y'all need to do is clean that place up because not everyone is going to notice those flies. They were crawling all over the cookies and baked goods. O even saw them on the food in the areas where people were being served. Y'all need to do something it and stop selling food that's had flies on it to the public. I will never come back to any of the PCC stores.

Yelp
Im a longtime PCC shopper, and even worked at the old Seward Park location as a bag girl in my youth. I love them. This review, however, is for the juice bar at this Issaquah location. My spouse is doing a juice fast, and getting juice "out" occasionally, rather than having to grind it out at home, is a welcome treat. There is jamba juice everywhere, but they are not organic. And most of the juice bars on the East side close early. So we were thrilled to discover the juice bar at the Issaquah PCC while in that area of town one day. I love that the menu is easy to follow. There is just one size (16 0z), and a bunch of pre-set combinations. Lots and lots of choices, unlike many other organic juice bars. And if you dont see what you want, you can "design your own" juice for just a dollar more (1 base juice plus up to 5 mix-ins). Im not a juice person, myself, but tasted the "Green-something" combo...cucumber, celery, spinach, parsley, kale, lemon and ginger... I wasnt expecting much, but to my surprise, it was really tasty! Nice job, PCC, at keeping the healthy stuff affordable and accessible!

Yelp
They always run out of chicken breast salad at the deli food area. Workers are nice but clearly need help because they look overwhelmed. I try telling the front but they don't want to hear my feedback, so here it is.

Yelp
I love this place. Their deli has so many goodies to choose from that I can never walk away with just one box. I love that they are so environmentally focused that they let you put two or more things in one container. Also, the customer service is awesome! By the way, great thing about this location is that they have seating outside. It's actually really nice to enjoy your meal right there :-)

Yelp
These are my favorite PCC items so far: 6 pack organic free range brown eggs, big and fresh. PCC label 2% organic milk (not ultra pasteurized) Croissants!! Cookies! Guacamole! Beeler's ham Hot food bar Daikon - smaller pieces Organic carrots Meats and chicken Grace Harbor yogurt Breakfast sandwich biscuit Cheese samples! Gabriel makeup Spices Equal Exchange tiny chocolates in the bulk bins. I want to buy bulk shampoos there too. Staff are friendly but customers can be rude at times....plateau ladies trying to run us down with their carts.......I want to take a cooking class but they are always full. Membership pays for itself in just a few months with member coupons, not to mention your health. Thank you Issy PCC.
