Where to Eat and Drink in Sylvan Park

"From the group behind Nashville’s beloved Demos, PDK Southern Kitchen & Pantry is a diner-style restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the Sylvan Heights neighborhood. Start the day off with a traditional breakfast plate of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast, or round out the night with a pimento cheese-topped burger or gravy-smothered country-fried steak." - Kellie Walton

Google
First time here! Super cute and great atmosphere. The store itself is very clean and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Portions are generous and fairly priced. I had the southwest salad, the flavors are good but the guacamole on it made it kind of mushy. All in all will definitely be back to try more things!

We stopped in here for lunch on our road-trip and found the place to be adorable and very clean. We had the chicken salad sandwich and the hand-cut grilled salmon salad. Both were really fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly & helpful for first-time ordering. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal.

Google
Tried this place for the first time and overall it was good. The service was quick and very friendly. Had the PDK Burger and chicken/waffles. Burger was delicious but the pickles were too sweet for my liking, other than that super good. The chicken tenders were very delicious and partner well with the waffles. Also the banana pudding was wonderful! Would recommend this establishment.

Google
Guess what?! PDK has the best catfish and banana pudding ever!. I visited last summer for lunch while in town and recall the catfish was well seasoned and prepared to perfection, hot and ready, packed with flavor and not "oily" whatsoever. It was quite filling, and love at first bite. No other restaurant compares when it comes to the catfish, and I am definitely returning on my next trip to Nashville. If in consideration, definitely give it a try. The banana pudding was amazing, not too sweet and a classic southern. Smooth and delicious, definitely a favorite.

Google
Cool little restaurant in Belleview. Very clean and friendly staff! The salmon and Brussels were seasoned very well. The chx salad sandwich was good but not my favorite, mines better! Lol Tea was freshly made.

Google
Great atmosphere and great service. Unfortunately not great food. My shrimp and grits were overly seasoned and lukewarm in temperature. The salmon dish and spouts were good. We also had the banana pudding shots that were actually tasty 😋 For us, the best part was the shopping section. It included a lovely assortment of many local products and other goodies.

We were warmly greeted by Stephanie. Lunch was great and the chotski’s are so much fun to look at and get a good chuckle. Think of it as if Cracker Barrel leveled up!

Yelp
A surprising gem on a long roadtrip across TN. Friendly folks, trendy decor, and good food. Would go back if the opportunity came up. I had the bacon & pimento cheese sandwich which was really good with crispy Brussels sprouts. Son had the French dip & fries. He said it was good but something about the sandwich didn't quite work with the au jus. Hubs had chopped steak & mashed potatoes with brown gravy - he cleaned his plate so that speaks for itself. Give them a try when you're in the area.

Yelp
Hmmm, I'm slightly torn. On one hand I understand when someone comes in 30 minutes prior to closing, it's not ideal, but then on the other hand, to say they're only serving to-go... they need to fix their hours to say dining room closes at 8:30, to-go orders may be placed until 9pm. That being said, the food was so good and the person helping us was nice and helpful. We ate outside and while it was slightly dirtier, it was actually better than dining inside because we weren't pressured to leave! They were playing good music, a mixture of Rock, Christian, pop, and oldies. Inside you'll find a cute array of food products and souvenirs to purchase which was why we wanted to visit as we had a friend in from out of town. It's kinda a one-stop shop! So all in all it was a pretty good experience and we'd definitely go back.

Yelp
Bottom line: Food was not good. Hamburger steak was a thin patty, frozen not fresh. Mash potatoes were not good at all. Staff was nice though!

Yelp
This spot is conveniently located in Bellevue with plenty of easy parking. When we were here for lunch on a weekend it was not crowded. You order at the counter, fill your own drinks and seat yourself. The place is clean and bright and the staff is kind and attentive...but the food...was not great. I had a guacamole burger. The burger was way over cooked, dry and boring, there was almost no taste. I do love that they have gluten free buns! Hubby had chicken tenders, they were ok and fries were ok. We were meeting a group and there was plenty of room for us.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong...I enjoy a good cambells soup every now then. But I dont expect to be going to "southern kitchen" and being served cambells chicken and rice soup. I could have gone to any grocery store. The only flavors I tasted in this soup was tons of butter and a dash of lemon zest. Otherwise very bland..and very runny cambell soup like. Oh not to mention...the first time it came out...luke warm. Next is the salad...again to compare.. Publix salads...at best. Over all for $21...I wouldn't come back. I also live in Columbia, TN and was just in the area from doing lyft and uber...but thats beside the point.

Yelp
We love those chocolate chip cookies so much! And the chicken and rice soup. Those items bring us in. And we are 25 minutes from the location. This time around was no different. The cookies were fresh and hot. I ordered a burger and it was pretty good. My husband had the chicken tenders. He wanted a bigger portion size. However, we washed down our meals with the delicious cookies and all was well. No matter what we get when we go, the cookies make up for anything else that could be lacking. My husband did regret not getting the soup this time around but still liked his fries. The music played is usually Christian music and it's all our favorite jams. The cashiers are always super friendly. It's a very welcoming environment. Of course we will be back.

Yelp
I only thought to take a picture after I started eating! Food here is good (the ugly chick sandwich is the best). It feels like they are trying to figure out what they are with you seating yourself (no issue) but cleaning your own table. No salt or pepper on the table. You need to go get that yourself. If you think you are at a bbq place, it works. Just no bbq to eat. It's good - we come fairly often. The 4 star is just due to the quirkiness of it.

Yelp
Great lunch or dinner place, shrimp is fresh & delicious. Great comfort food, very clean establishment. Fantastic customer service.

Yelp
For everybody who loved Demo's downtown location, this location was founded by the former owner. The food is pretty good! Everything tastes fresh as if it were made here, and by that I mean even the bread tastes house-made, not days old. The flavors are rich, the portions are average, and they seem to truly give employment opportunity to everyone. This is a good business to support with your local dollars and you won't leave hungry. They also sell sundries such as shirts, mugs, honey, etc., so this may even be a nice place to grab something for a souvenir.

Yelp
Went at a very quiet time. Food was good and staff was friendly. I have used the catering company for a group which was a very pleasant experience. Reasonable. Delicious box lunch.

Yelp
Great food, good prices! Great place to bring the family for barbecue, chicken & all the other fixings.

Yelp
Got the hot chicken sandwich. It's really thin. It's like they beat it to death with a mallet and cooked it. Not even spicy. Just a heat at the end. No taste. So I'm not sure where the heat is even coming from. Fries are cold. Fast service. I think this may be fancy fast food?

Yelp
Salmon Salad was amazing. Brussels side dish was flavorful & cooked just right. Very clean. Staff is friendly. If you don't have to drive through, stop here to eat a real lunch.

Yelp
I walked in here and really wanted to like this place. Nice vibe in the restaurant, cute. Unfortunately, they were closing early and only doing takeout for dinner hours so I couldn't stay end enjoy it. No problem there. The rating is because the food wasn't good. At all. I ordered a wrap and the fries came with it. I walked out to the car to eat dinner ( I was going somewhere after dinner). The fries were cold. I guess with very little foot traffic they served whatever had been sitting there for a while, blech. The wrap was hot, but the taste of plastic bagged shredded lettuce and a plain tasteless tortilla shell doesn't cut it. The wrap and fries were tossed and I went elsewhere for dinner.

Yelp
Superb food! We got salmon with Brussels sprouts, shrimp and grits, and honey chipotle tenders. With a serving of blackberry cobbler and banana pudding. Everything was delicious! Loved how they have healthy options as well. The young African American manager was so sweet! She had awesome customers service, wish I had her name!

Yelp
This place sounded and looked SO good, so when the timing worked out I was so excited to give it a try. We ordered at the counter and then found a place to sit. The environment is super clean and bright looking and there is plenty of merch to look at while waiting for your food to cook. I ordered the grilled shrimp dinner (subbed brussel sprouts in for the fries). The plate came with a good amount of shrimp which tasted just as you expect. The brussel sprouts were really good at first but I eventually grew a tired of them. Overall, I was not super impressed with my food but hopefully I will be able to give it another shot and try something else on the menu.

Yelp
I ordered the hamburger steak for lunch - it was the Sunday special. Tasted like it was made at breakfast. It was served with mashed potatoes. My had a foreign object in it which I gave to the manager. Others ordered Chicken strips and other a wrap. Or what we were expecting from this place at all. Dining room floor was very sticky. No lemons for tea and no lids for drinks won't be back.

Yelp
PDK Southern Kitchen & Pantry is a fast-casual dining spot for Southern/comfort food. The interior is well-decorated with pops of yellow and charming decor and their cute merchandise displayed close to the entrance caught my eye. Although it is the kind of spot where you order at the counter and seat yourself, it also has a simple elegance to the establishment. The "pantry" part of the name started to make sense to me once I noticed that near the counter they had some grab-and-go items, drinks and snacks. Their menu is full of choices that looked so good to me so it was hard to make a decision. I settled on the shrimp po' boy and my friend got the portabello mushroom "burger". The sauce on the po' boy was so delicious. I actually could not pick up the po' boy to eat it at all because they had overloaded it with toppings. Although I love toppings I ended up ditching the bread and just using a fork. The breaded shrimp were pretty good but overall I don't think I'd necessarily recommend this dish since it was hard to eat and I wanted a sandwich type of meal but ended up not being able to eat it easily. My friend enjoyed her meal but said it was really messy, which mine was as well. The french fries were actually not very good though and worst of all they had Hunt's ketchup to put on the fries *gasp*. The ambiance is nice and the food was good too although very messy. I'm leaning towards a 3.5 with my rating since nothing really blew me away but it was still a good experience. Tip: I noticed that they have DoorDash available if you're not able to make it in. Personally, I think the ambiance was the best part of the experience so I would stop in!

Yelp
I only ate at this restaurant twice. The service was on time and pleasant. Ambiance was calm and quiet which I appreciated eating inside. I would return again.

Yelp
Very good, reasonably priced food in a nice location. Food always tastes fresh. The folks that work there are always nice. A good place to go before or after a movie.

Yelp
We love PDK! It's family friendly and has a daily special for a good price. The salmon salad is a favorite, along with of course chicken and waffles! For an extra kick go with the Nashville hot chicken and waffles! 4 stars because the side items aren't always on point...sometimes the Brussels were over-seasoned or the broccoli salad had just very large stalks of broccoli instead of smaller ones, idk the sides are just ok sometimes. The daily cobbler is always a good choice but the little banana pudding "shots" are perfect!! For when you or your kids need a little something for dessert but you don't need an entire pudding cup. Easy online ordering! We come usually once a week or so! Love this place!!

Yelp
Tried this place Saturday and immediately fell in love. First off; who doesn't love farmhouse decor?! The decor and ambiance is fabulous here; right up my alley. I love everything I saw when I walked in. Before walking in we got to sample the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Yummy; it definitely had some kick to it. I wanted to try so many different things, but finally made my choice. I ordered the Cobb sandwich while my date ordered the chipotle chicken tenders. We took our seats in the super cute church pew and waited for our lunch to arrive. Holy moly; my sandwich was huge. I cut it in half off the bat and only ate half for lunch. The aioli was really good; but I'm glad i got it on the side so i could dip my fries. Fries were good too. I love all the options and support of local businesses. I'll def be back to try something new!

Yelp
PDK is a casual dine-in or carry-out spot with affordable meals, snacks, and treats. They have a $5 special every weekday and I definitely recommend the Monday burger day and Wednesday salad day. One other thing I especially appreciate is the Brussels sprout side order option. I have always had kind and attentive service there, and the online order system works efficiently and is helpful especially during quarantine days. It gives you lots of options like "leave off the extra seasoned salt." There are so few options in Bellevue I am really glad we have a non-chain, locally-owned and well-run spot like this one.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the catfish special for$8.99. I was very disappointed in the quantity and quality. I like their salads but have been disappointed here several times. Sorta an excuse during shut down, but no excuse today.
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
I love this spot. It is so cute and fun. My daughter and I ate there for Saturday brunch. I had shrimp n grits (Fire) and she had chicken and waffles. I loved them both! The decor is super cute and we took lots of pics on our date. She loved the brick back ground. Service was super nice and everything was clean and hot. I'll definitely go again!!
google avatar

Yelp
We tried this place for lunch and it was very good. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. There is self service fountain drinks. I loved the chicken and rice soup. It was delicious! My group had the French dip sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich and burger. Everyone was happy with their meal. I think the portion size on the fries was a little on the meager side, but that was the only con we found. I would go back just for the soup!
google avatar

Yelp
A hidden germ in a outdoor mall. My shrimp and grits were to dies for. Hubby's burger was amazing. I had a shot of banana pudding for dessert which was so yummy! Great prices for the quality of food.

Yelp
Tried PDK for the first time today! Overall enjoyed it, Had the hot chicken it was just a little too sweet for my liking, I'll have to try something else next time, Fries were delicious though! Staff was friendly and nice! I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
We were definitely not blown away by this place. We ordered through Uber Eats so maybe if we had eaten there it would have been a lot better. It came quickly and was packaged nicely. I had the hot chicken and it was so overly spicy that it was hard to enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I love spicy food and hot chicken is one of my favorite foods but I wouldn't exactly classify this as "Nashville style hot chicken." I really enjoyed it coming on sourdough bread though. That was a nice touch! The fries weren't great, could have used some seasoning. But once again it was delivered so I'm sure they're better at the restaurant. My hubby got the ugly chick sandwich and didn't care for it. He was expecting a piece of fried or grilled chicken instead it was almost like a chicken salad with bacon and goat cheese. He said he would have loved the sandwich had it been an actual piece of chicken. We split the honey chipotle tenders and they were okay. They were definitely heavy on the sweet with hardly any hint of spice. The best thing that we had were the fried onions. I would eat a whole bowl of them! The breading was perfect and they were perfectly crispy! My mom said her regular chicken tenders were "super-duper" yummy. So, you get an A+ from mom and my 1 year old. It may be enough to warrant a return trip from us. Hubby and I will just pick different menu items.
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
The best thing about PDK is the atmosphere. The food was fine at best and not as good as it should be. I was pleased with my food but not overly impressed. But it was very very cute.

Christina H.

Yelp
Grilled salmon salad is amazing here and I love the hot chicken. The salmon is huge portions and cooked perfect and moist. The hot chicken is very lightly breaded and loads of spices. Our office always chooses this place when we order in or eat out. The staff are so sweet

Yelp
Clean cheery spot with nice lunch options. Food was good but portions were quite small for price.

Yelp
Food is always good when dining in. However, they've gotten sloppy with to-go orders and covid guidelines. The other night, my husband ordered a burger to-go. When we got home, we noticed that there was a bottom bun on each side with one of them missing almost half of itself and the fries were lacking. We came back, because we live close by. They remade it for us and made it a little better by giving us some banana pudding. Tonight, we decided to dine in for date night before our movie. The cashier and the girl bringing out the food (Anna I believe) were seen multiple times with their masks pulled down, even around the food and when taking customer orders. It's $5 burger night, so my husband ordered a burger, the cashier didn't ring it up as the $5 burger and had to re-ring it. We waited 20+ minutes for our food, and then they didn't even make the burger, because "something went wrong, and they didn't know if they needed to make it". So, now we're waiting again on his burger. They also aren't enforcing customers wearing masks. I'm just angry and upset by the service we have received the past few times we been here, and not following/enforcing covid guidelines really have pushed me over the edge. Update: they brought the burger with no fries and made incorrectly.

Yelp
Precious & Delightful Kitchen. If Reese Witherspoon had a restaurant version of Draper James I feel like it would look EXACTLY like this on the inside. It's perfect in every way imaginable - carefully curated by someone with exceptional taste. It feels like you are on the set of an HGTV shoot. I really like it, I don't know if that's coming across. Anywho, I thought the food was great. I got the PDK burger and loved the cheese and dijon aioli. I do not love bread and butter pickles, I think they belong at the bottom of the ocean or tossed into a volcano - but I took them off and voila no harm done. The french fries were fresh and salted just right. Their Hunts ketchup tasted just like ketchup so that's a plus (ketchup is ketchup is ketchup is ketchup). I LOVED they have a station where you can just pick and choose your own condiments and utensils out of jars near the drink counter. It makes your table a lot less bogged down. Because I love myself, I got a banana pudding shot. SO GOOD. My only recommendation is to put a medium size option in there for the banana pudding. The larger size is too big for one person who just stops in for lunch on a whimsical whim. I do recommend this place. It's got a bright, sunshine-y kind of warmth and the kind of comfort food that will put you in a happy mood for the rest of the day. Why do I want to go home and watch Steel Magnolias now?

Yelp
HOT MESS EXPRESS!!! My sister and I went to try PDK for the first time. Aesthetically it was nice BUT the service was horrible and food was subpar. The manager Adam (I think that's his name) was very short with us, we waited 20 minutes before he acknowledged that we were waiting to be greeted and when he did he just said "We're busy, it'll be a 30 minute wait" and walked away. Another person came shortly after and explained that they were short staffed and food would take longer than usual. We were not in a rush so twe were fine with waiting we just wanted someone to let us know what was going on. After about 20 minutes, the same rude a** manager brought our food, dropped it at the table without a single word to us and when I asked for ketchup he told me to "go get it from the front".. Not sure why the bottles weren't on the tables and why I had to get up and get it myself but at that point he was clearly annoyed with our black faces. I was hoping the food would be worth the drama, but it wasn't. needless to say, I'll never return and I wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
This is a really nice place to dine and their food is very earthy, delicious and filling! The staff are young and have everything running smoothly. They're all courteous and receptive to courtesy! I wish they stayed open later like Jonathan's because I think they would do great during the late weekend hours.

Yelp
PDK Southern Kitchen is a great addition in the Bellevue area. The interior is so inviting, large and well decorated. They even have pews for booth seats! We ordered food to go and it didn't take long once ordered. It's the type of establishment where you order at a counter and then find your seat. I ordered a round of burgers for everyone and they were tasty. I see myself returning here often!
google avatar

Cissy W.

Yelp
First time and probably wouldn't return. Looks like a new place, very clean, simple and plenty of open space. Was here around lunch on a weekday and not very crowded. You order at the counter, find a seat and they bring your food. Again with the order at the counter and option to tip, I wonder what I am tipping for? I get my own drink, find my table and in the end they asked us to bus our own table. Confused about tipping on the front end when I am going to be asked to do all the work. I had scoped out the menu before heading in and was pretty interested in some of the selections. We let the cashier know it was our first visit and she suggested the Ugly Chick Sandwich as one of their best. Sounded good and I opted for the brussel sprouts instead of fries. When the food was placed on the table, the first thing I smelled was burnt toast. Yes, the bread had been toasted and left in too long and that smell! Hardly able to taste the contents of the sandwich. The Brussel sprouts which looked good, though also pretty well cooked, were so salty. So very very salty I could hardly eat them. I love Brussel Sprouts, and what sadness to see such potential overwhelmed by a heavy handed salt shaker! Disappointed in our visit.

Yelp
Great example of a business using Covid as a reason to fail. First, they pop up as a breakfast place but only have one item chicken and waffles. Their coffee is from a keurig but they don't tell you that until you buy it. The peach cobbler is small, has a terrible peach to cobbler ratio and the cobbler is a doughy, deepfried mess. Not recommended. Kristin D. Thanks for your reply. I looked into your background and I am revising my review. I think you are a good person and good for the community. I hope you take my criticisms in stride and wish you the best.

Yelp
Won't go back. So their food was okay. My fried chicken sandwich was pretty much all breading. And kinda soft breading? The thing that killed PDK for me was the freebie New Testament they provided at the ordering station. I like free things. I like the Bible. But when I opened this edition, the first page was an index for advice for "help in time of need" which was cool. Right? Nope. Under "abuse" this NT gave 1 Cor 7: 2, 3. Which first, doesn't say anything about abuse. It's all about fidelity in a marriage and second is followed by 1 Cor 7:4 which says "for a wife does not have authority over her own body" which does seem to be pointed towards abuse and that's TERRIBLE ADVICE TO GIVE PATRONS AT YOUR RESTAURANT! The rest of the index was not great either. I get they probably didn't read their own New Testaments and just threw them on a pretty stand for the taking but it's a personal thing. I like my chicken with a side of uplifting faith. A la Chick Fil A. Plus the food was only kinda okay. My cousin got the Mac and Cheese and said it wasn't worth finishing. Best thing we ordered was the mixed berry fruit cup.

Yelp
PDK is my "go to" when it comes to ordering in food for lunch or dinner through Uber Eats. It's always fresh and their Chipotle chicken tenders are amazing! The fries are always still crispy by the time they arrive. Their cobbler of the day has never disappointed either, so if you have a sweet tooth like me, order the cobbler! We have always had great experiences while dining in as well and they also have some cute gift items you can purchase too!

Ari R.

Yelp
I understand times are tough for restaurants. Food costs have gone up, rent is expensive, and nobody wants to work. However do not try to cut costs when it comes to serving decent portions and do not make the customer pay the price for these difficulties. That is exactly what PDK is doing, and I can tell you that when I came here a couple years ago the food was much different. Case and point, I ordered the salmon and Brussels and was literally served a tiny FLAT piece of salmon that I just stared at and couldn't help but laugh at for several minutes. I decided I was too tired to make an issue of it and just ate it, but decided to take my grievances out on here so maybe the owners will take notice. I spent over 14 dollars on a disappointing piece of fish and I will not be coming back. Please do better.

Bryan L.

Yelp
Extremely salty and everything is cold. Hamburger patty was old/cold/stiff. We are 1 of 3 tables.

Laura G.

Yelp
Both times I've gotten food here it's been bad. My partner thought it could've been a fluke so we went back. The mac & cheese is from a box and is terrible, the burgers are bland and the bun is always wet, and the fries are limp and cold. We have accepted that this is a tourist spot and tourists save your money! The cheap knickknacks aren't worth it. Go somewhere like Double Dogs instead. Double Dogs is about the same price and not too far from downtown if you're looking for some night life.

Aaron F.

Yelp
Super rude cashier. Came in before 8:00 pm and she said we couldn't order food to eat there. She said take out only only and seemed annoyed we were there. Unapologetic when I told her the wrong hours were posted.

Chantelle H.

Yelp
Food was not good quality . Hot dog was like a Vienna sausage and the hamburger was like a school lunch . They need to up their game on quality and even the fries weren't good . Disappointed as we had decent hopes of it being at least edible . Service was good and ambiance was decent for a quick lunch

Yelp
Stopped by to try out their Hot Chicken. It's got allot of kick to it- it's not for the faint of heart. The staff was quite friendly, and the atmosphere is family friendly. They have great daily specials. I do highly recommend the fried brussel sprouts- I normally don't like them, but when they're fried and seasoned, they're great. Definitely worth a return visit.

Yelp
I've been eating at PDK about three times a week for the past year. The food is always exceptional. Especially the salmon dish. It comes with brussels that'll make a grown man cry! They're so good! Every time I go in there I feel a sense of kindness and hospitality from the staff. Even if they are busy, I see even the most subtle smile peeking from behind everyone's mask. Yesterday an employee named Shanel made sure that I had some dipping sauces for my brussels as I was leaving. Not because I asked, but because she wanted me to have an enjoyable experience and to try her favorite dipping sauces. It was obvious to me that this was an act of authentic kindness. I don't know where PDK finds their personnel, but they are crème de la crème!!!
