Peace of Pizza Is Open and Offering Job Training on the South Side | Eater Chicago

"Opened by Englewood native and anti-violence activist Tamar Manasseh at 1801 W. 95th Street in Beverly, this bright neighborhood pizzeria offers thin-crust, gluten-free, and deep-dish pizzas along with wings and sides such as mozzarella sticks and cheddar jalapeño poppers; the menu also includes sandwiches like chicken parmesan and Italian beef, classic pastas (spaghetti and meatballs, chicken Alfredo), soft drinks, and a BYO option. More than a restaurant, the operation functions as a job-training hub inspired by Father Gregory Boyle’s Homeboy Industries: it hires broadly, trains employees for three months on skills like time management and workplace etiquette, and works to place trainees into permanent jobs. The 1,800-square-foot counter-service space (four two-top tables) is decorated in red and black and features a wall-size peace-sign logo; Manasseh chose Beverly as neutral, family-oriented ground where employees and visiting youth can move freely and experience inclusion. The launch was briefly disrupted by nearby Metra construction and sidewalk closures that caused about $13,000 in lost inventory and advertising, and the founder is actively seeking partnerships with other employers and nonprofits to expand the program’s community impact amid ongoing local violence that underscores the initiative’s urgency." - Naomi Waxman

I liked my pizza slice, I would say a hidden gem in Catonsville! Portion size was satisfying, liked the ambience, staff were helpful. Must try, will visit in the future!

I haven't been to Peace A Pizza in at least 10 years and it felt good to go back! I had two slices, one White and the other Meat Lovers. The white had a yummy white garlic sauce under the cheese and the Meat Lovers had plenty of bacon, ham and pepperoni! This place gets crazy crowded with Frederick Road Fridays during the summer, and I like to avoid that. The service people treat their customers well and I plan on returning soon with a craving for more!

Locally owned- fun place. Staff is ALWAYS friendly and cheerful. Fresh, house made dough it shows! Tasty! Pizza by the slice. Large variety of vegetarian and meat combos each day ( think 10 varieties!) Luncheon slice & salad special. A dozen choices of salads- plus make your own. Comes with a handmade bread etc. their grilled chicken is high quality. Baked goods made on the premises..selection changes often. Cake pops? Sooo god! Handmade sugar cookies are fabulous. Very kid- friendly. A group of bestie friends take our preschooler each Thursday after playgroup. Long tables to accommodate families & groups. Outdoor seating with picnic tables and wrought iron. Wheelchair accessible Beats the chains by a long shot!

Absolutely delicious pizza and great service. I would highly recommend this place. Staff is really helpful and friendly and they also offer curbside pickup. They have got plenty of great choices, and it is very hard to pick a few as favorites.

We did a fundraiser here for the second time. It's always a good time here as the staff is so very nice and accommodating. I'm not totally in love with their pizza, but it is not bad. I also had a canzone to go, and it was great. A really nice selection of pizzas, salads, toppings, and specialty drinks. It's a heck of a lot to choose from, and the kids love it.

One of the worst slices I’ve had around here. Crust and sauce are too sweet, crust tasted like a cookie or cinnamon roll. Cheese and toppings are cheap and flavorless. I would not go back. Service was good

Always great tasting pizza with a lot of variety. The Greek pizza is really worth trying of you like fresh spinach. There are several picnic tables out front to eat outdoors. They also make salads to order, and have baked desserts, and many flavors of ice cream. Friendly staff, as well.

We would give this establishment five stars based upon the quality of their pizzas and milkshakes. The pizza dough is obviously made in-house. The dough makes for a light and flavorful. The menu boasts a mesmerizing selection of pizzas. We’d highly recommend the pineapple and pulled pork pizza with extra cheese. We’d highly recommend the banana milkshake also.
