Roasting nuts downtown since the 1930s, this family-run shop is pure Akron nostalgia. Frequently praised by local media and visitors, it’s a sweet stop steps from the Civic Theatre and Lock 3.

We had so much fun during our visit to the Peanut Shoppe. The staff is very friendly and generous with the samples. They have a great section of buts and candy.

Stumbled into this place on a whim sightseeing in downtown on a Saturday am. Am I glad I did...as soon as I walked in a was engaged in a conversation with one of the employees. Now listen I'm an introvert so this even to me sounds mortifying but this person was amazing. I was totally comfortable asked all the questions I had...all answers provided warmly. Made my purchase which was so inexpensive I felt like I was stealing then I was offered an ice cream sandwich not only for myself but for my guest who was outside in the ac car..if I could give 14443245 stars I would ..this place has been around forever and should exist forever

Google
I have not been here in years. My mom used to work downtown. She would always bring home some nuts or candy from the peanut shop. The peanuts would be so fresh and hot. Or she would bring them home and put them in the oven. I went to purchase some peanuts. My son got him some candy. The ladies in the shop gave us free ice cream sandwiches. I will be back.

This peanut shop will take you way back in time, it was actually a fun place to visit. The staff knows is great and you’ll find the customers are long standing customers and will share their childhood of going to the peanut shop as a kid.

Charming throwback to a different era, yet a great experience for any age and generation. Very reasonable pricing for fantastic products, sweet, salty to savory. Close to UAkron campus and the business college.

The smell of roasting nuts is alluring when you walk in the door. So much to look at on the walls. Great history, photos, etc. Glass cases full of freshly roasted nuts, but also a colorful array of other types of candy. Take a selfie with Mr. Peanut on the way out:)

Great place step back in time with all the nuts and candies with terrific prices and the people can't be any nicer

I've been a regular here since I was little. It's the spirit of Akron, their boxes make wonderful gifts for all occasions! They have most dry good snack foods that you could ever want as well as candy!

Yelp
I've been going there for 40 plus years. Items are always fresh and the staff is great!!

Yelp
Wonderful local gem! I love this place. Whenever I go in I feel like I am transported to a simpler time. They have a very wide variety of nuts to choose from and you can get them in increments of 1/4 pound and up. They also have several candies (chocolate and otherwise), popcorn, and sodas. The prices are very reasonable. The staff is so friendly too! I went in today, clearly overwhelmed trying to take everything in and decide what I wanted, and the young lady behind the counter immediately smiled and told me to take my time. Very considerate! Today I got 1/2 pound of salted Spanish peanuts (my favorite), 1/4 pound of Cajun spiced redskin peanuts and some gummy bears, all for $5. Can't beat that! :)

Yelp
Yummy. You'll find speciality nuts and some chocolates here. Generally, nuts are expensive at grocery stores. Think of when you go to a store and how a small tin of nuts cost about $6. Crazy, right?!?! Well, the prices here are pretty much the same BUT you'll find a large variety of nuts to purchase. You can also spend a small amount of money here so don't worry. If you get a small bag of nuts then that will costs between $1.50-$4.50 depending on what you get. You can buy all sorts of goodies here including almonds, pistachios, cashews, gum, popcorn, and all sorts of chocolates. You can get nuts salted or sweet. Some nuts are even covered in chocolate. They also have a small corner with a fridge where you can buy bottled water and soft drinks (soda / pop). I like the honey roasted cashews alot. Try the milk chocolate mint squares. A 1/8 size is $1.50. They are delicious. Customer service here is wonderful. Molly, who works behind the counter and who is also the owner's granddaughter, helped me pick out some nuts when I first visited this shop. She was super friendly. Margaret is the owner who is passionate about her business. I spoke to her about her business and she is really nice. She told me that the HUNDREDS of photos on the wall were collected over the years. The photos were just brought in by customers. Another time I was here, Margaret gave me an ice-cream sandwich for free when I was leaving. How nice of her. This business has been around for years and it definitely seems like a staple community favourite. My friend Mary told me that she remembers her mum bringing her here alot when she was younger. Stop into this peanut shop if you're in the downtown Akron area. I recommend this shop. *** - This is my 170th total Yelp review. - I have written 124 Yelp reviews in 2018.

Yelp
This is shop is awesome! We got their peanut butter chocolate peanuts, haystacks, pistachios, peanuts, and a bunch of other chocolatey goodness and it was all delicious! If you're in Akron, you should definitely stop here.

Yelp
The peanut shoppe is an old fashioned shop in downtown Akron and has been around since the 1930's. Recently when I was in Akron I had time to kill before the Rubber Ducks game and wanted to stay downtown. Yelp came to the rescue suggesting The Peanut Shoppe. Upon entering the smell of peanuts/popcorn filled the air. I was greeted immediately by an older lady and was told if I wanted a sample of anything to ask. I tried a few things and ended up purchasing a few kinds of peanuts and cashews. Next time I'm in Akron I will stop in.

Yelp
Despite it's name this is much more than a peanut shoppe and its definitely one of the many iconic fixtures here in Akron just like the Goodyear Blimp, the Soap Box Derby and LeBron James just to name a few located just a few feet off of Main St. a.k.a. "King James Way". Oops maybe the LeBron reference is a little much for some since he recently decided to become a "Laker" but in all fairness he has done amazing things for the City of Akron so I'm sure most wish him the best, but what's that got to do with peanuts right? Well this is a great place to stock up on nuts and candies before the game or to binge on while waiting to see what awaits Cleveland sport's fans so there are some similarities, like the sport scene this place is filled with surprises and also has some historic value, remember the 64' Browns sorry I don't but I probably will remember my last visit here for quite awhile. If you work in the area chances are you've stopped in, I actually know people who feel having this historic peanut shoppe so close is a curse because they can't walk past it without stopping in for a quarter pound of something and I must admit for good reason. Its a piece of history and so nostalgic coming here is definitely like being a kid in a candy store, so many decisions luckily the staff is as patient as the fans are here in northeast Ohio...

Yelp
Lots of old fashioned candies and nuts. The chocolate covered peanuts are to die for. Fun shop when you walk in. Lots of eclectic stuff on the walls. Old weight scales. Smells wonderful. Take a few minutes and check out this 1930s store. Street parking.

Yelp
Just yum! Fresh roasted and boiled peanuts, good chocolates, many types of candies bulk! Always a family favorite snack when headed to Lock 3 for a festival

Yelp
I love coming to the Peanut Shoppe! The ladies who work here are very friendly, and they have a great wide selection of nuts and candies to choose from.... I get something different every time I come here because I find something new to try every time. Recent discoveries for me have been their chocolate covered toffee (sooo good) and chocolate covered sunflower seeds (which are great if you love chocolate and sunflower seeds). Their unshelled sunflower seeds are called "sunflower meats" which I thought was interesting the first time I saw them... but they are so good, too. Every time I come to Akron, I am sure to stop here... it is an Akron institution, indeed... Around for 80 years and going strong!

Yelp
Best peanut shop I have ever visited. The smell of roasting peanuts is amazingly delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great place to visit before the holidays and grab some mixed nuts gift boxes, to share with your family and friends. Been going there for many years and we love it.

Yelp
I was so pleased to make a stop at The Peanut Shop. There was so much to choose from and the girls behind the counter gave us samples to help us decide which treats to take home. Walking through the doors is like taking a step back into your childhood where old peanut shops were the chosen stop for people of all ages. I'd definitely recommend you check this place out. They have great prices for yummy treats!!

Yelp
Loved the service, the candy and peanuts/nuts were great. It's right across from Lock 3 park and is a great place to get snacks.

Yelp
Great bar nut mix @ Baxter's next door. Plus all of the great bins of candy, chocolate, & nuts to chose something tasty! :)

Yelp
Sometime during the 1930's my great grandmother went Christmas shopping downtown Akron in a blizzard. Word on the street is that she passed out right outside the Peanut Shoppe door. Being pregnant with twins they rushed her to the hospital (in a blizzard) and she ended up passing away from "pneumonia". Little morbid family fun fact for ya, but I can't help imagine every time I stop by the Peanut Shoppe. The inside never changes and that's why I love it. Local police officers, downtown employees, residents, students, and regulars keep the business going. The inside is small, but the walls are draped with a good old fashioned Akron history lesson. The newspaper clippings are yellow and staring to curl, but you showed up for peanuts not home furnishing remember? You walk in knowing what you're going to buy and end up with 5 pounds of chocolate covered pretzels, trail mix, holiday candies, and that little chocolate goodness your grandpa loved. The Peanut Shoppe's selection is homemade, local, and endless. The best part about the place is it's an Akron staple and for me...well...RIP Great Grandma.

Yelp
Ten-cent potato pancakes. No, they don't sell those here (I don't think), but the Arby's by my house growing up had them. My friends and I would each get two potato pancakes and a water. Being productive members of society who earned and purchased at such a young age had a good deal to do with our development as human beings. Kids today miss out on a lot of that. Stores are so expensive today. Makes you yearn for Yesteryear. This place will take you right back there. The Peanut Shop will sell you 1/4 pounds of things for like $0.75. Kids can run in there with their hard-earned allowance and buy snacks that blow away anything Reeses or Cadbury could dream up. My office is still snacking off the pound of Wasabi Green Peas I bought. The people who work there are nice, and stay open for late events happening downtown. Can't go wrong with a trip to the Peanut Shop.

Yelp
What can one say about the Peanut Shop that hasn't already been said? It's a local institution, one I frequented 40 years ago as a young teen exploring downtown. I used to get 1/4 lb of warm, freshly roasted cashews as an occasional treat, and they still have very affordable roasted nuts and other treats (chocolates and other candy by the pound). Great variety! I love the old fashioned scales they use to weigh things, and the ancient cash register on display, as well as the paraphernalia from area sports teams.

Yelp
It's a true relic. I happened to park across the street. The parking here is back in on an angle so I was looking right at it. I love cashews and I figured they might be good here. They are. Old fashioned candy store. I'm glad I saw it!

Peg M.

Yelp
There's no better place to purchase freshly roasted nuts. The aroma of them roasting as you walk through the door is indescribable. I recommend the salted pecans. Once, I went in to purchase nuts for a baking project. I casually mentioned the project to the friendly worker, and she was able to sell me fresh nuts that were already chopped. Perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
Great shop!! They have such a wide variety of items for good prices. They do run out of things, so beware if you need something specific also, they let you sample just about anything. Everything is so tasty!

Yelp
5 stars for being a true local place with that small business charm. Prices are dirt cheap. It is a small place with a counter of nuts, chocolate items, and candy items. Obviously peanuts can be had here. I ordered a chocolate covered Oreo - very yummy. We just stopped in to check the place out. Wasnt worth an out of the way trip - but glad we happened upon it. Cute place check it out!

Yelp
How can you not like the Peanut Shop? It's been around for-EVER, and it's so reminiscent of old times. I remember visiting when I was a little kid. They moved down the street, but it's the exact same place. Lots of candy, fudge, and nuts sold by weight. Always fresh treats, always friendly staff.

Yelp
Walking into the Peanut Shoppe is like walking into a time capsule of sheer goodness: the store has been around for about 80 years (and looks it, with a decor that is warm and inviting although from what I read, it has changed addresses along S Main Street to its present location), and the lady who runs it, Marge Klein, couldn't be nicer! The store has a massive variety of nuts either salted, raw, honey roasted, smoked, dipped in chocolate or peanut butter and the prices are very affordable. What really caught my attention was the person to person interaction with the ladies who work there. One could easily order cashews or walnuts by the bulk on Amazon, sure, but just having a short interpersonal exchange can literally brighten a traveler's day. And the kicker--they ship! I shall definitely return.

Yelp
Warm & delicious- a throw-back in time. When you walk in, you are greated by the warmth of freshly-roasted peanuts and a staff member happy to see you. On our visit, we sampled many items and bought more than we planned, but so worth it. I love the old photos of Akron history and the charm of the store. Take someone that you want to impress- one of the coolest places in Akron, in my opinion.

Yelp
Since I had time to kill in downtown Akron, I walked over to The Peanut Shop to see this Akron staple. They have a great deal of sweet and salty options available by the quarter pound, half pound, etc. I got there mid-afternoon and they were sold out of a few things, I settled on chocolate covered coconut clusters which were just okay. The store is small/narrow, but there was a fairly sized line of people, seems to have a loyal following.

Yelp
Visited the Peanut Shoppe for the first time and had a fun time. So many candies and nuts to choose from! I think every inch of the store walls is covered with either memorabilia or candy and nuts. I found it very interesting. Prices were good and selection was plentiful. They are very generous with letting you have a sample before you decide too.
google avatar

Jacinta W.

Yelp
The staff here is AWESOME!!! Everyone is very friendly and customer focus. My father orders nuts all the way from St. Louis and the staff know him by name.
google avatar

Cortney A.

Yelp
Everything they have is awesome and there's so much to choose from. Very affordable. I couldn't possibly list everything they have, you just have to go and see it for yourself. Excellent place to buy snacks. The staff are also very friendly.

Yelp
I usually love the peanut shoppe but my last experience was absolutely horrible. There was a maggot in the case of candy, we tried to be discreet but when the lady tried to pull it out over the candy we were absolutely done! I had hoped this was an isolated event until my coworker informed me he had found a maggot inside his pistachios. Now I can't in good faith buy things from there or recommend this place for others until they clean everything. I really hope they make some changes soon.

Shaunie S.

Yelp
This is the first time I've been here in the 16 years I've lived in Akron. Such a cute little shop. I loved it. The kids loved in. Marge and Sandy rock! Definitely will be going back.

Yelp
My favorite place to go for a midday treat. They've broaden their dark chocolate selection, which really appeals to me. I love how they listen to their customers and try new items to sell.
google avatar

Adam J.

Yelp
Best place ever. Freshest nuts and candy in town. Great customer service and has that Cheers' feeling. I make a point to go a couple of times a month.

Christina K.

Yelp
The Peanut Shoppe is a downtown Akron staple. Just go inside and you will see years of Akron memorabilia. They have so many reasonably prices goodies to choose from that it is hard to choose! My favorites happen to be their peanut butter pretzels and chocolate covered sunflower seeds. While the candies/nuts are typically put into paper bags, you can request a box at minimal charge if giving it as a gift. (The boxes are plastic sealed while you wait.) This is a great place to get holiday gifts for those hard-to-buy-for relatives! The line can get very long as it gets closer to Christmas, so plan you trip accordingly. There is parking available on the street at the meters. FYI, they also sell ice cream. If you are in downtown, you have to stop here.
