The Rise of the Restaurant Reservation Fee | Eater NY

"I found that Red Hook’s Pearl Street Caviar, listed on Tock among small spots, requires a $10–$35 per-person reservation fee to secure a table." - Melissa McCart

A group of us had a great meal here recently. We ate a variety of items from the menu and everything was excellent. The tea sandwiches were especially great as were all our entrees: the skate, the scallops, the burgers. Our waitress was super awesome, friendly, personable and super efficient too. We sat outside on a lovely night in the super chill inner courtyard and the vibe was awesome. Our bill per couple, including a few drinks, was super reasonable, I thought - about $100 per couple pre-tip.

This is an amazing place to be with friends, so cozy, relaxing, and very clean. I enjoyed the beautiful outdoor seating. The DJ was great. Great sevice. The bartender Janiel and the Chef Craig are so attentive. They would make sure you are well taken care of. 💯 recommend it. Don't forget to check the menu and get some Caviar, Steak, Lobster Roll, and the Charcuterie board.

We rented out Pearl street from 9pm to midnight for our wedding night after party, to celebrate with 30 of our closest friends and family. Paid 50% deposit 2 weeks ahead of time. When we arrived at 9:15, there were 3 groups of people finishing their dinner on the patio while our guests were awkwardly huddled indoors around a table. The other diners didn’t leave until 9:45. We were ultimately refunded for an hour but Craig and the team were not proactive in apologizing or addressing the situation, and we had to bring it up with them at the end of the night and ask for a partial refund. We were later told the guests were “unruly” and refused to leave, which was hard to believe since it was 3 different tables. It seems the staff had told them too late about the event, or just weren’t firm enough about making them leave on time. It put a damper on our evening to have our private event not be private for the first 45 mins of the night. We’ve been fans of Pearl Street for years and were disappointed with our experience. It’s a cute space with great food and music, but didn’t come through for us on one of the most important nights of our lives. We appreciate the refund and the apology, and maybe that night was a one off, but they seem to have some issues with organization and professionalism when it comes to private events.

Had a wonderful time watching Kentucky Derby at PSC. It was a pop up event hosted with Gotham burger social club. The staffs were friendly, and my wife loved food.

What a great place to go listen to music and chill. Their grilled cheese caviar sandwich is to die for. They have a fire pit going all winter which is just so entrancing and lovely to see. 10 out of 10 on this one.

Had my engagement party here and it was amazing! 10/10 recommend you throw your next get together here. The food is great and Craig was very helpful! Thank you PSC for all that you have done for us. <3

Google
Such a cozy spot with amazing caviar and food! Highly recommend for a date night or a chill group seating. You won’t regret!

Google
An absolute gem. One of the best steaks and lobster rolls I've had in recent memory. You have complete flexibility to have as much or little caviar as you'd like as part of your meal. Regardless, it will be delicious.

Yelp
This cozy and welcoming place has a nice patio and a good amount of space inside. The staff was polite and attentive, and their service was excellent. The Burger was delicious, and the green flash was tasty and refreshing with a good kick (Serrano Pepper). They also have the cleanest bathroom in all of Brooklyn!

Yelp
Pearl Street Caviar in Red Hook is a caviar supplier looking to make caviar more accessible to the everyday consumer. We visited their cafe for dinner and started off with the charcuterie board and the silver caviar flight featuring, their Keluga, Ossetra, and Siberian Select caviar accompanied by creme fraiche, blinis, toast rounds, rice paper, okinawan sweet potato chips and olive oil chips and chives. We also couldn't skip the caviar grilled cheese that had us wondering why caviar wasn't a regular component part of grilled cheese to begin with. We really enjoyed our experience here and would def recommend you go in the summer to make the most of their back patio. They did a great job of making something as fussy as caviar more of an approachable experience

Yelp
It was my birthday and I was gifted a delivery of caviar from Pearl Street Caviar. I received the "Pearl Duo 30g". It consisted of Keluga 30g, Ossetra 30g, crème fraiche, chives, kettle potato chips, and a caviar spoon. The caviar was amazing! The silky smoothness. The mild saltiness. Perfectly chilled. Tins filled flat and just to the edge. The freshest most delicious crème fraiche. Neutral tasting thin kettle chips. What more can I say! A nice spoon, and beautiful packaging. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Visited this past weekend and so glad we did. My bestie and I do caviar quarterly in CA, so we decided we needed to do it in NY. We chose Pearl Street and we had a great time. The person that helped us was personable, knowledgeable and all around great. Never have I ever tried caviar with rice paper, and now that's the only way I want to eat it! Champs selection was spot on as well. Highly recommend everyone visit Pearl Street Caviar!

Yelp
HIDDEN GEM in Red Hook, BKLYN. Really nice outdoor space and super chill vibe. Amazing cocktails, great food, and of course the caviar!! I'm hooked. So happy to have found this spot.

Yelp
So I did end up getting my package in time. Which was a relief because it was the center of my birthday food. The caviar was good. It didn't have as much pop in the mouth like I'd anticipated but the flavor was excellent. They both matched well with the accompanying items in the kit. Since the caviar was so good on the kettle chips we decided to try them on some jalapeno kettle chips I had in the kitchen. It was actually great! The fact that the caviar paired well with the other things I'd laid out speaks to the quality you'll get here.

Yelp
I've recently been super interested in the world of caviar and, accordingly, I did my research on caviar service here in NYC. In the process, I discovered Pearl Street Caviar. From browsing their website and social media, I decided Pearl Street Caviar would be the first place I'd go to try caviar for the first time. I was super excited and very eager to swing by. So one Saturday in October, my husband and I hopped on our bikes and headed out to Red Hook. It was a gorgeous day and we were up for any adventure, really. But obviously, I insisted we swing by Pearl Street Caviar and my husband lovingly obliged. Beforehand, I checked Pearl Street Caviar's website to make sure we didn't need an appointment. Sure enough, they welcomed walk-ins. So we walked in. And we walked in to an awful experience. The space looked hardly welcoming. Random merch everywhere. The only employee/SA there sat at a MacBook, typing away as we walked in, too preoccupied to greet us. WE INITIATED THE GREETING. Person was flustered and finally got up to "help" us, except this person was not helpful at all. Kudos, I guess, for being able to answer my question about where they source most of their caviar. It was awkward, underwhelming, and disappointing. They lost a customer before a customer even tried their product. But here's the thing, when it comes to a product like caviar, there's no room for error. None. Especially not when I'm willing to spend $200+ on this stuff. Caviar is meant to be a decadent treat. Luxurious and special. Pearl Street Caviar was anything but. It's all smoke and mirrors. Their marketing is great but I saw behind the curtain and it wasn't pretty. As a Brooklyn resident, I was more than willing to avoid the midtown and UES purveyors of caviar to give my home-borough a shot. But doing so turned out to be a disappointing disaster, and I had no choice but to traverse midtown crowds for my first taste of caviar. Kaluga Royal Amber and Sterlet, specifically. With champagne, of course.

Yelp
Excellent, high quality, beautiful caviar and accoutrements. Simple phone ordering and timely delivery. Exactly what I ordered. I can't thank them enough and look forward to future orders.

Yelp
Ordered caviar for a dinner party last week. Service was incredible - from ordering over the phone to when the order arrived via UPS. Packaging was great / caviar was even better! Love the recycled wool. Would give 10 if yelped allowed!

Yelp
My friend and I decided to go to Pearl Street Caviar on our way to an exhibit, as I have ordered many times from them but never went to their establishment. We had a delightful time and enjoyed speaking with the owner, who is truly knowledgeable about caviar. The caviar is very high quality and delicious, whether you visit Pearl Street Caviar, which is a treat in itself, or order for delivery.
