Karen Small and Jill Davis hardly need any introduction - but their revival of former Flying Fig is shiny, cozy, and charming. The patio might not be used for a few months yet, but the empty space out front does draw attention to the warmly lit bar within. Step inside the Market side and you'll be greeted by some of the coolest and friendliest humans in Ohio City (which is already filled with cool and friendly humans). Various fresh, pickled, and otherwise preserved goods are available for purchase at the front, where you'll also see the charcuterie boards being carefully prepared. And of course, you have your pick from a comprehensive selection of wine.
I highly recommend stopping for a sit-down meal. Especially now with Christmas decor in full swing. The dining room is intimate with mostly small tables, but admiring the cruvinet (a fancy wine chilling and dispensing system) behind the bar is best done from the bar. Happy Hour is the best time for sampling different wines with $1 off cruvinet pours and $5 for a house glass.
In standard Karen & Jill fashion, food is carefully thought out with a focus on local produce and cured meats. You could snack your way through an evening here and not feel too heavy (or guilty) since the ingredients are so fresh (except preserved ones obviously) and you're supporting regional businesses. Your bartender/wine master will likely have several suggestions to suit any wine-seeker. Excited to see the continued evolution of Pearl Street!
