"Lobster rolls are a hot button topic in this town. Bring up the subject of whose is best in a large group and you're likely to stir up either a passionate discourse or a knife fight, depending on what kind of crowd you run with. We're healing up nicely, thanks. We certainly have an opinion on the topic, but are also equal opportunity eaters. We haven't met too many lobster rolls we don't like. Not the case for some. As a matter of fact, there is a rivalry that exists between fans of Pearl Oyster Bar's roll and Mary's Fish Camp loyalists that's almost as heated as the Biggie/Tupac beef was before Al Gore had them both killed. We're entitled to our theory. We'd like to use this review to go on record and say two things: We really like Pearl Oyster Bar, and stop the violence. Pearl's lobster roll won't take the title of best in town from us, but the place does score high on the Infatuation meter. Almost everything on the menu is fantastic, and we love sitting at the bar with an Anchor Steam and getting into some seafood with our hands. What really keeps us coming back though, is the fried oyster sandwich. That thing is food worth fighting over. Food Rundown Market Oysters A selection of six oysters from the East Coast. Pretty standard, but tasty nonetheless. Make sure to ask for some horseradish on the side. The Pearl Lobster Roll This is one creamy lobster roll. Big chunks of lobster and lemony mayo are all over the place - no celery though. This comes served with a huge pile of salty shoestring fries that make for one satisfying plate of food. It's the antithesis to the purist simplicity of Luke's, but is still one of the best lobster rolls you'll find anywhere. Fried Oyster Roll For us, this is the real star of the Pearl Oyster Bar menu. Crunchy fried oysters on top of the same soft roll that the lobster is served on, but slathered with tartar sauce. Insanely good. Soft Shell Crab A tasty option if they're in season and on the menu. Nothing but two crunchy crabs on a plate with some garnish. Who needs more?" - Chris Stang

Came here with my family for my sister's birthday. I will say that if you can find street parking, please do it. The nearest paid parking lot was a rip off. lol. Our waitress was amazing. She provided amazing service and we appreciated that. The food was decent but the prices weren't fitting. If the prices weren't up there and the food was more flavorful, I would've given it a higher rating. Kinda borderline over rated because we've had way better food at Red Lobster but whatever. My sister enjoyed her food, and we were given great service so that's what matters to me. If you decide to try them out,

A great Valentine Day at this great restaurant. The food very good and the service was first class. Highly recommended.

We went here for a surprise date night and had an excellent meal and a wonderful time. We had steamed oysters as well as fried oysters which were both fresh and delicious 😋 but we also had the crab mac and cheese and OMG it was so good!! Our waitress was Whitney and she was very friendly ; cute as a button and very personal. We will definitely be coming back to this restaurant. Definitely rating them with five stars !

Stopped in for a quick bite. The oysters were clean and delicious. We also got corn fritters and crab cakes. The fritters were amazing, I’ve never had a corn fritter like that. So light, almost like a Chinese donut with corn in it, and it came with a maple butter that really elevated it. The crab cakes were good as well, I would just like a bit more crab and a bit more of the mustard aioli that came with it. Definitely will go back next time we’re in the area.

Good food, fast service and attentive waitress. Dinner for two with the Restaurant Week 3-course dinner. Only items not pictured were the oyster stew and house salad. The flavor profile of the gravy on the Shrimp and grits could be enhanced with a bit more depth in its (spice) seasonings. I'd definitely visit again.

I celebrated my bday in Columbia. We went to three spots. This was by far the best. We had Calamari and Oyster Rockefeller. We also had the oyster shooters. We ventured on the wild side with those but they weren't bad!

Pearlz Oyster Bar: A Great Place for Seafood and a Good Time I recently had the opportunity to dine at Pearlz Oyster Bar in Columbia, South Carolina, and I was thoroughly impressed. The restaurant has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The service was excellent, and the staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious! We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell, which were fresh and plump. For our main course, I had the blackened grouper with a side of collard greens and mashed potatoes. The grouper was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the sides were delicious. My dining companion had the shrimp and grits, which she also enjoyed. The drink menu at Pearlz Oyster Bar is also impressive. We tried a couple of the signature cocktails, and they were both delicious. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. Overall, I had a great experience at Pearlz Oyster Bar. The food was excellent, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great seafood dining experience. Here are some specific things I liked about Pearlz Oyster Bar: * The fresh and delicious seafood. * The attentive and knowledgeable staff. * The relaxed and inviting atmosphere. * The reasonable prices. * The large portions. Here are some things you might want to consider before dining at Pearlz Oyster Bar: * The restaurant can get busy, especially on weekends. It's a good idea to make a reservation in advance. * The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Columbia, so parking can be difficult. It's a good idea to park in a nearby garage or on the street. Overall, I highly recommend Pearlz Oyster Bar. It's a great place to enjoy a delicious meal and have a good time.

You've got to try this place if you're a fan of peel-and-eat shrimp, gumbo, and seafood dip. It's the perfect spot for a romantic date night!

Yelp
Love coming here for oysters and beers! My daughter raves about the clam chowder, but the wife and I stick to the oysters . They have a decent brew selection. The service is good for how busy it can get in there, and the ambiance is exactly what you would expect, sports on the tv's, booth seating or bar. If you tend to run cold bring a sweater the a/c is very efficient.

Yelp
We went last weekend. Our waitress came and took our drink order. We received them right away. We placed an order for oysters and waited and waited. We could see a dozen oysters sitting up on the back bar. We noticed all the raw bar workers on their phones and then looked over to see all wait staff on their phones. We were not going to eat those oysters after watching them sit for so long. We finally got our waitress's attention and paid our drink order and left. So very disappointed as we were really looking forward to a nice dinner.

Yelp
Good food, but service needs improvement. I had made a reservation in advance for our party of 7. Resy would only let me book a table for 4, so I called the restaurant to add more people, which wasn't a problem. I received multiple confirmation texts and emails, as well. However, when we arrived on Friday evening, the hostess informed my friend that they had no reservation for us in their system. I walked over and pointed out my first and last name on her tablet, and without apologizing, she said there would be a 20 minute wait. The entire interaction wasn't particularly friendly. After 20 minutes, we were seated at a comfortable booth. The interior featured a mural on the exposed brick wall, and a large bar. We made it in time for happy hour, which included PBR, House Wines, House Liquors, Champagne, and select food items. I ordered the On Dry Land mocktail, which was just okay - too sweet for me. For food, I got a half dozen Charbroiled Oysters, Southern Fried Oysters, and some Raw Oysters to share with my friends. The Charbroiled Oysters were very good, and I liked how cheesy they were. I'd never tried Fried Oysters before, and they were almost similar to Fried Calamari. The oyster itself didn't have a strong flavor, but I liked the buffalo and blue cheese dipping sauces. The Raw Oysters were decent, but far from the best I've had, and their mignonette sauce was basically just vinegar. We did enjoy the Crab Dip we ordered for the table, as well as the Peel & Eat Jumbo Shrimp. Service was quick, but consistently lukewarm. Our main server was relatively friendly, but some of the food runners were oddly snippy, and it took away from our overall experience.

Angel F.

Yelp
New to the area, so we're checking out restaurants and found this spot. The service was nice, organized & timely, and our server was very helpful. The food came out in a decent amount of time, and I enjoyed my food (esp the calamari!) Joel said his shrimp pasta was just okay, not creamy enough, and needed more shrimp. But we'll definitely return to try other options.

Jaclyn N.

Yelp
I just got back in from eating at Pearlz. I ordered the oysters Rockefeller, half a dozen house raw, and the crab cake sandwich with a side of brussels sprouts. The oysters Rockefeller were truly the winner. The house were also good. My crabcake sandwich was not quite as good as what I've had at other seafood places and the brussels sprouts were still just a little undercooked. The service was good. They were very attentive. The bartender made me a good spring break drink. It was pretty quiet for Mother's Day weekend. When I go have oysters, I will typically go back if I really am happy with what I've had. Tomorrow I will probably try another place

Tiffanie C.

Yelp
Pearlz is always a great place to try varietial oysters. They are consistently fresh very plump juicy not overly fishy, but everything you want in a fresh raw oyster! They can lightly steam them if you need a little more texture. But they also have great appetizers that are even better when they're discounted on haptic hour!!!

Nicole B.

Yelp
I celebrated my bday in Columbia. We went to three spots. This was by far the best. We had Calamari and Oyster Rockefeller. We also had the oyster shooters. We ventured on the wild side with those, but they weren't bad!

Yelp
We stopped in after visiting the riverwalk. The bartender was amazing and very attentive, and the apps we ordered were delish! They also had a special, 1/2 off bottles of wine, which we took advantage of. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Amanda D.

Yelp
I'm just glad they have a spot dedicated to oysters in Columbia. Came on a Saturday when it's just open. Really quiet but the menu is extensive. The venue is large and I think it should be vibrant when it's set up. Will be back to try others again

Clare M.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriends were ALL denied by the bartender....we are 22 with real ID's but they did not accept any of us that did not have a South Carolina ID???????????

Megan S.

Yelp
The bartender with the red hair needs to be taught the difference between a real and fake ID. I am 22 years old (turning 23 soon) and he denied me service. I came with a group of 20 and he only served the people with a sc Id. Everyone with an sc id got served, everyone without one got denied. As a bartender, he needs to know more than just a sc ID. He was extremely rude when I offered him a picute of my ss card, passport, etc. He either needs to be taught the difference between a real v fake id or fired.

Joy S.

Yelp
As we passed through Columbia; we stopped at this oyster place. The prices were okay, the atmosphere was nice other than being seated in a distracting area when the entire restaurant was open. The oysters that were recommended were amazing, the shrimp "on" the grits were the best part but although the dish was extremely flavorful, the grits were undercooked, and dry. The gumbo was good but nothing to come back for and the rice was good but bland. If we lived in town, we might come back here for the oysters but we probably won't be stopping back by when passing through the area. The waiting staff was amazing, even a manager came and checked on us, but from the time we sat down, it took us almost and hour and 45 minutes - and there were only 4 tables being sat in the restaurant (that we could see).

Anne M.

Yelp
Don't bother ! Go to the Oyster Bar next door.I just thought I'd try Pearlz and wish I had NOT. The "seafood" gumbo was disgusting as there was no seafood but tons of sausage and roux. The house oysters were small and tasteless.I'm sorry but despite being house, the oysters should be the star as in the name of the restaurant.

Andrea M.

Yelp
The seafood itself needs to improve. I had more shells than seafood and had to pay for basically shells. I could've went to the beach and got them for free. And the audacity that the waitress asked me if everything was okay. I had to smile and say yes because she just works there.

Yunhea K.

Yelp
We have been to Pearlz a few times and I honestly haven't been disappointed yet.. we got there around 10:40 and sat at the bar. Kitchen closed at 11 so we had to hurry up and pick what we wanted to eat. We ordered some appetizers as we just needed some food to drink with. We got fried oysters, fried shrimp and crab dip. Our bartender recommended the punch because it was a fruity drink (can't remember the exact name) but it was really good. The bartender was also making oyster shots for other customers and I just thought the process was so cool. Before I review the food, I will say our bartender started off very attentive but into our service , she started slacking. But onto the food.. the crab dip was so creamy and had the perfect amount of crab flavor. It paired perfectly with crostinis.. the shrimp was perfectly fried and seasoned and the tartar sauce it came with was so good. It was the right amount of tang and spice. The prize of the night was the fried oysters.. they were also fried perfectly and I think they are best eaten at the restaurant as soon as they come out. They were pretty good size and very flavorful. After we ate we went upstairs to the bar/lounge and it was so live! So many people dancing and vibing just having a great time. We had a few shots and drinks and ended the night. I'd give it a 7/10

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Oh wow. I ordered a smorgasbord of seafood! Only took a pic of like one thing as I forgot! I ordered a dozen steamed oysters! Were awesome! Then I ordered lump crab cakes. Were soso. Then iceberg wedge salad with blue cheese & bacon. My sat fat portion! Lol. Last I ordered peel and eat cocktail shrimp. Were delish! Ambiance quiet. Service on time! I felt pearlz is.a.bit over rated and prices are high but I give them a 5 star! Thx.

Bianca D.

Yelp
I love the seafood tacos there. Always go and get some premium oysters The Clam Chowder.... My favorite!!

Charles G.

Yelp
Great food although to be fair, the grilled oysters were nothing like what I got in New Orleans

Tesfa D.

Yelp
I usually don't write reviews but I left feeling so disappointed. I was looking up a nice dinner for me and my boyfriend to go to for our anniversary and after looking at many places decided on Pearlz, thinking it was a nice fine-dining (ish) restaurant based off the prices and pictures. We arrived and it looked like a pub inside, and all the servers were wearing leggings and crop tops, and there was loud club music playing. The price point of the food just does not match the ambiance or the quality what so ever. We were both excited to enjoy some cocktails together, the cocktails were so unbearably sweet it gave me a headache to drink. The food wasn't bad, but again, wasn't what we were expecting at all.

Al J.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is super laid back. Good vibes. The witness was amazing super helpful, checked on us often, and gave great recommendations. The oysters here are super tasty, and really fresh. The seafood gumbo had more sausage than seafood, but it was still pretty tasty. The drinks here are also amazing. Will definitely be back.

Kristin P.

Yelp
I should have known that things were not going to be great when, upon arrival, the restaurant claimed to not have my reservation. Fortunately, I had a confirmation email to confirm my reservation and staff kindly made adjustments to still seat our party on time. The table service was less than notable. We started with a round of drinks, one of which was noticeably wrong based upon its color. Despite this, the waitress insisted it was the right drink. We requested that the drink be remade and, upon her return, the waitress admitted that what was served was not that which was ordered. For our entrees we ordered the hard shell clams, cesear salad, and mahi tacos, which took over an hour to be served. The Hard Shell Clams was a rather small portion for the $16 price tag and the sauce was incredibly salty and the dipping bread stale. While the Salad was a hearty portion however it was heavily sauced making it less than enjoyable. Other than my dining company, I can't say there was much good about my evening out. :/

Autumn F.

Yelp
It's a cute place. But left a lot to be desired. Service was mediocre at best. Drinks went empty, she brought our food and never came back until we were done eating. Burgers were over cooked (even though they asked how we wanted them). Bacon on said burger was so crispy it was hard to eat. Everything was seriously over seasoned. Overall for $90 there are better places to eat and we probably won't be back.

Savannah

Yelp
Came here for my birthday and had a great experience! Got the oysters on half shell to start that were very good! Then ended up having the ribeye which was cooked perfectly and my husband got the ahi tacos that were simple but very yummy! Our waitress was the sweetest and so polite, sad I didn't get her name so I could give her a shout out! We will be back

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
Poor presentation of food just thrown around and majority of the menu is pre-mixed or has bacon in it. The bathrooms are clean, but they hold no soap. The servers are nice, but forgetful and write nothing down. If you decide to come here, be patient if you have to repeat yourself.

Ross J.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Different types of oysters so you can choose one or do like me and her then all. Get customer service also. The bar area was very nice and clean. You can't go wrong here, plenty of choices of things to eat and try out.

Marla R.

Yelp
Not Sure What Happened To The Previous Chef But The Food Isn't The Same Completely Not Satisfied With Things I've Been Seeing And Tasting I Won't Be Returning

Asjelu Z.

Yelp
The drinks were way too sweet!! Apparently they had a breakage with their soda gun, it was way too syrupy and sweet. Then for my child I would have thought they have had a better children's menu but the only item they had that wasn't fish was grilled cheese, I do not recommend if you have children!!! However the oysters weren't that bad and the service was amazing she was very sweet!!

Jacquelyn M.

Yelp
We picked this place after walking around trying to decide where to go. It was a very hot day and the menu looked like we could find something. My martini was served in a plastic martini glass, which just wasn't the same and kind of ruined it for me. He wasn't a fan of his drink either. He said it tasted and smelled like a cleaning product... fabulosa lol My mussels were on point. The broth that they were cooked in was super yummy and they served them with garlic buttered bread for dipping, which is a must! Clam chowder was also great. Not too thick, and it had a lot of clam chunks in it. The oyster dinner was ok. Oysters were good, but it would have been better to order them separate and skip the potato chips and corn fritters. Lastly, service was slow. Seemed like they must have been understaffed.

michelle

Yelp
Great place for date with my spouse as well as birthday celebrations....Pearlz does it all!

Rodney W.

Yelp
I went for dinner, everything was great.... I got the gumbo for starters, very flavorful and I got the crab and shrimp salad, also very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful, I will be back

Ashley J.

Yelp
First time here! Our bartender/waitress was the sweetest! I didn't get her name but she made our experience pleasant. They were pretty packed so we sat at the bar. I ordered a lemon drop. It was honestly one the best I've EVER had. It was the perfect balance of sweet from the sugar rim and tangy. I also ordered the oyster Rockefeller. I've had many variations of this and I can't say I was a fan of the way it was made here. I felt like the oyster was lost in all of the toppings. I also had a grilled mahi taco. I loved the flavor combo of the fish and cabbage. We briefly went upstairs to the lounge area. It was nice. It had a club type of vibe. All in all, I will be back.

Jim H.

Yelp
What a delightful place. I went and sat at the bar and they have a great happy hour that runs until 7 PM. Who does that? People that want customers come in consistently. That's it. And I had to happy hour margaritas ( five dollars each ) The corn fritters with maple butter ($6), and a dozen raw oysters for $18! The steps behind the bar was super attentive and even shut the oysters in front of me. Will definitely be coming back to this place for good eats on the cheap.

Barry B.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Beautiful restaurant in the vista. Went on a Tuesday when not too busy. Very slow service. Took forever just to get silverware. Steak had a weird lemon flavor and no steak type seasoning. Steak was very fatty. Fish and chips did not have Steak-fry type British "chips" but were actually house made potato chips that were like cardboard with no flavor. Nice place and bar, but food left a lot to be desired particularly at that price.

Robert M.

Yelp
Our first time visiting the area and we were very pleased with this place. We ordered the fried oyster and got a dozen of the house oysters . The fried oysters were some of the best that I've had, the crispy flavor filled batter coated the oyster perfectly . There are times when fried oysters can become significantly over cooked and chewy, but this was not the case for these delights. They were cooked perfectly and priced really well. The raw oysters were on happy hour which was definitely a plus. The service was prompt and the parking was convenient. We will definitely return if we are in the area . ~FOODis£0¥€ For a more in depth view of this place and others be sure to check out AtlFoodGoals on IG and TikTok.

Alicia J.

Yelp
I've been to the upstairs lounge plenty of times but this was my first time trying the restaurant. The food was pretty solid, nothing too exciting. I enjoyed the burger. It was juicy with fresh ingredients. Also the fries were nice and crunchy. The calamari was a little chewy and not super flavorful but was fried nicely and not too oily. I would definitely come back to enjoy the happy hour specials and enjoy a few drinks. Also super convenient that Kamisky's is attached and you can order after you enjoy your meal.

Ellen P.

Yelp
First time here, what a great place to eat . Service was great our waitress was spot on . We never had to ask for anything. The restaurant was clean , staff was friendly. They took all the 6 ft social distancing requirements. The Rockefeller oysters appetizer was delicious! I had gotten the fish and chips, delicious the best I've ever had! The fish was lightly breaded very good! We will certainly have to come back! Prices are good, food is delicious. Let's just say you won't be disappointed!

Richard B.

Yelp
Another great meal at Pearlz! The slightly steamed oysters were tops and the oyster rockefeller were over the hill. The tuna shrimp tacos with mango salsa was so good also. Our waitress. Whitney was so good so please ask for her. She told us they now have $1 oysters every Tuesday, so I'll be back!!!

Kevin J.

Yelp
Dropped in for a quick bite off the happy hour menu. Sampled the steamed shrimp and trigger bites. Lightly breaded and fried to perfection and served over house chips. The tea was fresh and my server Whitney never let the glass get less than 3/4 full. Will definitely return. Nice bar setup and comfy booths and tables, perfect for groups or date night.

Andrèa M.

Yelp
The service was great, ambiance was perfect. The food feel so short. The oysters and clams where non-existent. More shell then food. If you want to come here for drinks and a snack this is the place for you. If your coming to get a oyster/seafood dinner this is not that kind of place. I spent about 70$ on food just to go to sonic after.

Nikki D.

Yelp
Waitress provided great service. My BLT seafood salad was delicious. I also had the corn fritters which was delicious with the maple butter sauce.

Heather C.

Yelp
Was starving after running around all day without eating. Stopped for an early dinner (which means lunch breakfast and dinner combined - don't judge). Started with 3 appetizers: buffalo oysters, char-grilled oysters and calamari. Buffalo oysters were not crispy at all, blue cheese sauce was questionable (meaning I couldn't tell from the taste that it was blue cheese dressing). Char-grilled oysters were decent, no comparison to N.O., but out of the other 2 apps they were decent enough. The calamari...smh. No words except disappointing. Oh, also ordered hand cut fries. Almost forgot because they weren't memorable either :(. Was still hungry so ordered Black Bass (blackened) with red rice and asparagus. The fish was super thick which meant dry, rice was sweet, and I'm not a fan of sweet red rice, asparagus was cold smh. My mom had the asparagus, flash fried brussel sprouts, with the blackened Mexican Amberjack fish. She actually said it was good. Go figure! She was the same one badmouthing all of the apps (except the char-grilled oysters, which she liked). Drinks - house Chardonnay. When asked if I wanted another, I politely declined. Also had sparkling water...nothing bad can be said about Pelligrino. Nancy was cool! But the food...mehhh. I doubt I will be returning anytime soon. Mom said she neither, unless MAYBE if she is in the area...lol.

Nakai R.

Yelp
Love Pearlz! Good drinks and the oysters and jumbo shrimp were so good. Parking was easy. Clean bathroom.

Jean R.

Yelp
I enjoyed Pearlz! Was there by myself during a business trip. I enjoyed good service, a half dozen oysters, and a seafood BLT salad. Everything was fresh and delicious. I'll go back when I'm next in town.

N.O.Vative C.

Yelp
You food is good. Your restaurant is clean. The oysters are house oysters are acceptable, but what do you expect being away from the coast. But what I cannot stand is a restaurant to pass off the charge for using a debit card to the customer. What I WILL not stand is not being informed prior to getting the bill. Let you customers know ahead of time. I am very disappointed. Your customers keep your doors open. Good owners and good management will start to realize just because it might seem like a good idea, you are doing more damage to your bottom line by deceitful practices.

Michael W.

Yelp
The entire experience was amazing. The food was incredible, the staff was amazing and very friendly and attentive. Gabby was out server and she was lovely and very friendly. Her recommendations for the meal were incredible and she was always smiling.

Kathryn L.

Yelp
A quick toast to celebrate my ManBaby's Birthday. We lucked up on seats at the bar as it was pretty busy at 8:30P. Our 1st Bartender the tatted Mariela was super great & friendly as she knew her drinks, food & the few GF/Veggie options. Yup, even at an Oyster Bar. The second Bartender who took over was the opposite with her stuck up demeanor, not sure how she's behind the bar. All good, as we ended up leaving soon after. There's a spot upstairs offering live jazz & blues music from local & regional artists called the Upstairz Lounge. Definitely an eclectic type of vibe. One of more social & busiest establishments in the "Vista" area of Columbia.

Evan G.

Yelp
Pearlz Oyster Bar on Gervais Street in Columbia is a great place to go for delicious seafood and drinks in a cool and relaxed atmosphere. I really like the location and everything that they have available here. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating to make sure that you have a really good experience.

Susan C.

Yelp
The food was very good but smaller portions than I am used to. The wait staff was very attentive. It was very loud but overall a good experience.

Susan C.

Yelp
Food is very good although the portions were smaller than what I am used to. The staff was very attentive. The atmosphere was very loud a little more noisy than what is comfortable, however the wait was not too long. I would recommend it to others.
