Where to Eat and Drink in Johnson City, Texas

"This brewery — located in the old Blanco County Supply and Hardware building — is the optimal place to gather with friends over a craft beer in the pet-friendly biergarten. Beers range from blonde pale ales to nitro dry stouts. And then there’s lunch, dinner, and brunch menus with pizza, fried chicken, and fries. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Darcie Duttweiler

Visited on Easter Sunday completely by accident while driving through from Fredericksburg and wow, what a great surprise! From start to finish, everything was incredible. The service stood out immediately. The hosts, servers, bartenders all professional, friendly, and genuinely good people. The owners went the extra mile to make the holiday special for everyone dining that day. They even hid Easter eggs filled with candy and prizes on the patio for each family. Such a thoughtful touch! We sat outside on the patio, which was super cute, shaded, and just perfect for the beautiful weather. We ended up staying over two hours, sipping on in-house brewed draft beers and enjoying the food. We had the pretzel, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a burger everything was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this spot. 10/10! Will definitely be back

The wife and I decided to go on a road trip through wine country. For lunch, we stopped at this place. Despite being dimly lit, there was a lot of interesting decorations. Like the tables had wooden street signs protruding from the middle. The hamburger and sweet potato fries I ordered were unexpectedly awesome! I got just a basic double with grilled onions and cheddar. The richness and flavor of the burger is one of the best I’ve ever had. And I have eaten a lot of hamburgers. The service is not only friendly, but they genuinely seem like they enjoy what they’re doing. If you’re from the bigger cities and want to go on a road trip, this is a sure spot to hit.

Food was great! The hostess was very welcoming & with bubbly personality. They had serveral beer, wine, & cocktail selections. The strawberry blonde beer was a nice, crisp, lighter taste beer. Our server was good. However, the staff who brought the food on our table were lacking customer service skills. They did not seem happy with their assigned tasks. They need further customer service skills training. Their food & drink prices are more expensive than other similar places in town.

My wife and I had an amazing time at Pecan Street Brewing in Johnson City. We absolutely loved the laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. Our server, Grayci, was outstanding—her recommendations were spot on. The chicharrones were perfectly crispy, and our main plates were absolutely delicious. Great vibes, excellent food, and top-notch service. Highly recommended!

I'm visiting Hill Country for a nice break and came across the establishment. I was seated promptly and given a huge selection of foods, beer, wine, and specialty drinks. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, but not unnecessarily so. I ordered a brew master's flight (three beers) and their meatloaf lunch special. Of the three brews, I loved the Pecan Stout. I ordered two 32 oz. cans to bring home. The broccoli red pepper blend, the mashed potatoes, and the meatloaf were filling and incredibly tasty. The barbecue sauce on the meatloaf was just the right balance. The surprise cheese in the middle of the meatloaf along with the chopped carrots added to the flavor. It was tender and moist. I'd definitely have it again. I highly recommend this little gem of a place off main street.

Can we just stop and talk about the spicy margarita's, Lost Sounds of the Honky Tonk on a Sunday evening, award winning beer, the most friendly staff and Meatloaf Monday? You see where we are going with this, right? Great food, great staff and one of the best things about Johnson City Texas. If you're a regular you know, if you hadn't been in awhile, get your butt over there. If you are passing through STOP and feed your soul, grab a cold one and let's chat.

Google
First time at this establishment, and we left very impressed (and full). The chicken fried chicken is huge and very well prepared with delicious white gravy and crispy batter. The mashed potatoes were excellent as well. The owner was working as the host and we found him to be very friendly and gracious. The location in the downtown square, directly across from the courthouse adds to the appeal of this restaurant. I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re in the area.

Google
Another delicious meal and great overall experience at Pecan Street Brewing in Johnson City! This has become our go-to spot on Friday evenings when we're visiting the Fredericksburg area for the weekend. The pizza is soooo good with multiple topping options. On this visit, we tried the Redneck Italian pizza. This very well might be our new favorite. The beer flight was a great choice with Bring the Rauchus Rauchbier being the star of the show. Grayci provided top-notch service, too. We can't wait to return to Pecan Street. Keep up the great job guys!

Yelp
So yummy. I think maybe the employees actually enjoy working here. They always seem so friendly, chill, and willing to help. We always aim for the back patio area. There are fans and clever little twirly things to keep flies away. Portions are quite large, so plan accordingly.

Yelp
Great lunch spot on the way out to wine country! Pizza was delicious, the crust was a bit thin but take or leave it depending on your preferences. All servers were super friendly and it's a dog friendly place if you go to the patio so got to bring my pup in as we traveled. Texas pub vibe. Food was good but beer was even better! Would definitely come back

Yelp
Stopped in on the way to the LBJ Ranch. They were amazingly busy for a weekday lunch and we had to wait a bit. I think it was lack of servers not lack of tables. I had the Fish and Chips. It was good but a bit too greasy. The fries were good. Wife had the Texas Ruben and she enjoyed it. Service, although a bit slow was friendly. It's a fun, wide open place, not too noisy to talk. We enjoyed it.

Yelp
We came made this pit stop here on our way to the next town. We came to taste the beer. It was great. Huge establishment with plenty of outdoor or indoor, upstairs or downstairs seating. The menu consists of the typical bar/pub food. Everything we ordered was great. Our server was kept coming back to check on our large party. Will definitely come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Glad to see they brought back the pomegranate salad last time I went. I guess it is a seasonal item now but it is my favorite thing on their menu. You can never really go wrong with the food or beer here.

Yelp
We stopped to check out Johnson City and find a place to watch the Playoffs. A crusty guy greeted us. We smiled and let him get away with it because of his impressive beard, and the fact the place was packed. The restaurant had a ton of families, and there was a high level of energy. The campus is a fun combination of a restaurant, beer garden, and upstairs pool hall. The chicken nachos, light-up pizza, and Turkey cheddar sandwich were all better than expected and well made--the sandwhich was perfectly made with toasted bread, rich Mayo, and two melted slices of cheddar. The blond beer was flavorful and a nice compliment to the food. There were only 2 TVs at the bar, so not the best for watching football, but we will go back for the great experience.

Yelp
Good burger and really enjoyed the pretzel. The fig jam was great. Kiddos liked their pizza and the beer was good. Just wasn't a fan of how you order food in 1 line to get it and then sit down. Just seemed really inefficient and then had to go grab your beer. I would recommend you sit at the bar if you go.

Yelp
We took a day trip to Johnson City to see the wildlife refuge and also check out Pecan Street Brewing. We'd heard great things about the food and beer and that advice was spot on. I got their GABF gold medal-winning rye lager and it was tasty. My fiance tried the saison and my buddy got the wet hopped session ipa which was hoppy and delicious. My fiance and I shared the Nashville hot chicken and the pretzel burger and my buddy got the pizza. The Nashville hot chicken stole the show! The grilled jalapeños added a nice spice and it was quite spicy. The service was great and the people were friendly.

Yelp
Wow so good!! This place was recommended to us by staff from one of the wineries nearby and we are glad we came in! We didn't try the beer, but the food was Amazing-just as described! My boyfriend got the Nashville wings which he said were Very good (actually had a good kick and still very flavorful) and cooked well. I ordered the winter cranberry turkey with Swiss cheese and Wow that focaccia bread was so good!! We also felt the staff went above and beyond and were all very friendly. There was also a decent amount of seating when we went there as well. Overall, we really enjoyed this place and would recommend!

Yelp
Pfew, talk about the perfect finish. After a visit to both Marble Falls and Johnson City, we made a final stop at Pecan Street Brewing and it was ideal. Low key decorated with old celebrity pictures and beer bottles, the inside was very toned down, which works. It is a large space, with lots of seating. When we went, there were a number of patrons, but plenty of room. The food was excellent. We were both happy to see that there was a vegetarian option and ordered a Side House Salad with the Portobello Mushroom Veggie Burger. Both incredibly good. We also ordered the PSB Michelada..extraordinary! This is a great place for a pit stop during a Johnson City visit. Completely recommend.

Alex N.

Yelp
Visited Johnson city for a day trip & everyone recommended this brewery. The food was decent, the prices are a little crazy though. I got the smash burger, fries and lettuce were extra. I ordered lettuce for my hamburger and not exaggerating it was a small little leaf. Service was also not good, a little rude. This place wasn't worth it at all. You'd probably get more food for cheaper at another restaurant

Yelp
A unique local culinary experience. After driving the nearby Exotic Zoo Safari we were starving for some hearty food. This place was hit the target for a Sunday brunch. Best Chicken and Waffles with house made pecan topping. Others had burgers and breakfast. Plenty of good food to go around. Our waiter and his trainee were very attentive. We had nice big table by the window overlooking the old downtown square.

Yelp
We went in the evening and walked from our hotel. We were greeted by the owner and sat at the bar as there was immediate space available there. We were promptly attended by the bartenders who were very knowledgeable. Their in-house brewed beers are fantastic and i highly recommend the double IPA. Their hand-made pizzas are incredible as well. The atmosphere is very casual in a nice historic part of town. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Wonderful experience as always! Great beer and delicious food. Loved the Pecan Coffee Stout and the chicken nachos.

Yelp
A great place to go get some grub before walking around the electric co-op Christmas lights. We met a group and they had table space for large and small groups. It took a while to get our food, but when it did arrive our server was a little frazzled. But it was a busy night. I get it. But it tasted good when we were eating. My black sheep burger was tasty, I would get it again. The kids liked their grilled cheese and chicken tenders. The bathroom was also nice and on my approved list

Randy J.

Yelp
Love this place! We stop here every time we travel to Frederickburg! The staff are always friendly and ready to have a conversation! The food and beers are well worth the stop!

Yelp
Enjoyed a brunch with friends while in Johnson, City, TX. The biscuit with chicken was really tasty and service was great!

Yelp
Fast service and SUPER friendly staff. The food was delicious and they have many drink flights to choose from. Variety of items on the menu for everyone. Will definitely be back when in the area

Yelp
If you're making your way through Johnson City, this is probably the best place to stop at for good food and beer. This is especially true if you're heading out to the wine country down 290 because there's not a lot of dining places between here and Fredericksburg. They have an experienced chef and good varied menu here. They have everything from chicken fried steak to a cauliflower crust pizza. You can order a flight of 4 to 6 beers and even get beer to go. You can belly up to the bar or choose one of 15 or so tables to sit at. At the back of the pub there is a venue for music known as the beir garden. If your time here was memorable, you can always pick up a growler, hat or T-shirt. Keep in mind, this ain't Austin, so they close at 8 PM, 9 PM on Saturday. The one thing you should be aware of is that they do charge you a credit card fee if you don't pay by cash. The food, service and beer were all five star.

Yelp
My wife and I dropped in for lunch after touring the LBJ National Historic Site. We were greeted by a lady who gave a friendly explanation of the options of either waiting for an inside table, or taking a table on the rear patio and placing an order at the bar. We chose the second option, and ordering was quick and easy. I enjoyed drinking a refreshing Czech Pilsner and snacking on a cheddar pretzel dog, while my wife was impressed by the soul burger (a tasty veggie burger). The place was pretty full even on a weekday, and I can understand why. The three people who helped us were all helpful and welcoming, and the food and beer were satisfying. A very pleasant midday break!

Yelp
We were in Johnson City and wanted to eat outdoors before heading home. Unfortunately their patio is under renovation so we ordered from their website. The food was good quantity and no complaints about the portions. We enjoyed our meal. We ordered: 1. Portobello mushroom fries - they were very thick cut with a very thick batter. They certainly fresh but too crunchy (like hard) and nobody wanted to eat them, unfortunately. I would not recommend this appetizer. 2. The pub burger was beautifully presented. It had a slight sweetness so if you enjoy that you'll enjoy this burger. Their fries (up charge) were tasty as well. 3. Chicken fried steak. I'll start by saying I loved the gravy. It was spot on. The chicken fried steak was seasoned beautifully. I'm usually having to season my CFS and gravy most of the time. My 2 dislikes were that the batter was very thick compared to the meat and the plastic ware they provided was very flimsy so I couldn't use the knife to cut the steak. I think this could be a winner if you order and dine in. The mashed potatoes and okra were tasty. 4. The crab Rangoon pizza. We were most excited about this one because we all love crab Rangoon. It was pretty "fishy" and did not taste anything like a crab Rangoon. I didn't taste any cream cheese or see it. This was not enjoyed by me. I applaud the concept but it missed the mark. The service was friendly, the portions were good, and it was real food so give them a try if you're in the area! Check out my pics and please like them and my review if you find them helpful!

Yelp
First time here and had an amazing time. There were a lot of people but we were able to snag some bar seats. We had the Road Devil and Walking Moon Cowboy drinks to cool down. Then we had the Pizza and chicken fried steak for our meals. The staff was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back!

Toni C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service! Very chill and laid back. Waitress gave us several suggestions for both beer and food and all were spot on.

Yelp
Classic Texas charm, friendliest service throughout. Had a great beer recommendation from the bartenders, the road devil is a must try. We had the pretzel burger which was pretty good, patty cooked a tiny bit too much. The Nashville fire chicken sandwich is just as advertised, fire hot, but not to a ridiculous point. Still enjoyed it very much as I was sweating through it. The restaurant is a laid back brew pub busy with a lot of tables ready to serve the masses. If your in Johnson city, the stop for a meal here is well worth it. Brenda and Jennifer thanks for the great meal!!
google avatar

Yelp
The burger is fabulous! The whipped feta and peppers make this over the top! Sweet potato fries were perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
The hours listed on Sunday says open till 9pm. They closed at 8pm. They were also not pleasant about our confusion RE stated hours online. Seems reasonable to adjust your hours online or at least be friendly.
google avatar

Alana G.

Yelp
Loved this place! Enjoyed a late lunch with family after hiking in the state park. Burgers, sandwiches, fresh salad, and good beer hit the spot. It's home cooking, perfectly prepared, and elevated just a bit. Our waitress was fun and efficient. The ambiance homey, casual, and comfortable. Johnson City is a cute town with a bit of history.
google avatar

Veronica L.

Yelp
Nice place to grab food and drinks Friendly staff and fresh ingredients casual atmosphere.

Diana E.

Yelp
Start to finish, this was a great place to eat! I had the drunken mussels with toasty bread and a side salad; that house made pomegranate salad dressing needs to be bottled!!

Dawn V.

Yelp
Amazing lunch. Rueben sandwich and sweet potato fries were delicious. Family ordered the turkey cranberry sandwich which was so good. Atmosphere was causal and friendly
google avatar

Trey W.

Yelp
I went here on a first date for brunch, and it was a nice place to do so! There were a couple hiccups, like the fruit came in large ramekins, and because they had no lip. you have to be careful when you speared the fruit otherwise it would pop out on the table. I definitely want to come back and try the beers they offer.
google avatar

Belinda G.

Yelp
Burger was good but disappointed that "comes with kettle chips" meant from a package. I thought they'd be fresh homemade. Didn't enjoy them. Service was good.
google avatar

Pasha C.

Yelp
I've lost count of how many times my family has come here, but it's always great. Whenever we come to Fredericksburg for fruit picking we have to make the trip here. Firstly, they brew their own beer and have an amazing variety (especially with seasonal options). If you can't decide I highly recommend a flight to try several options. Their menu also has seasonal changes and I've always loved my meals. This last visit I was happy to see their Schnitzel was back and I had to grab it. The portion size is massive. It currently comes with mashed potatoes and a veggie of the day which I swapped for a Ceaser salad. The salad was fresh and their homemade croutons are surprisingly flavorful. The schnitzel as the star of the show though. It was crunchy and cooked perfectly. The mushroom gravy adds to the dish beautifully. My kid always has to get the pepperoni pizza whenever we come here and is never disappointed. Another amazing dish is the Pecan Street Chicken that is a massive crispy fried chicken breast that is covered with a sweet pecan sauce, highly recommend it with sweet potato fries. The servers here are usually amazing and quick to bring refills and check in. Their back patio is a small, but pretty area if it's not too hot out. I will say I know a lot of people will question why there is a wait when tables are open, but anyone who has worked in the service industry will tell you it's so they can stagger orders into the kitchen and not overwhelm their staff. Trust me, the food is worth the wait.
google avatar

Lane B.

Yelp
Honestly I wasn't expecting much but wow I was wrong. The service, atmosphere, food and friendliest is top notch. I had the bacon jam burger and so GOODDDD! Waiter was very nice and very on top oh his service! Come check this place out and enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Wanted to find a good place we could bring our dog Karma on our way home from Fredericksburg. This was perfect. I'd never sat on their back patio before, I didn't know it was back there. Nice outside area. They had water bowls and a water spout for the dogs. Nice covered picnic tables and heaters if n. There wasn't a server out back today so you had to go up and order at the take out counter and have your meal in a to go container. Which was fine with me. We always have leftovers anyway. Brenda was taking the orders. It felt like talking with a friend. She's so very friendly and also helpful with ordering. Since we ordered a more dinner type meal, not just a pizza or burger Brenda had the kitchen plate our meal as if we were dining inside. Which was nice with the trout and osso bucco. She also came back and checked on us a few times which she didn't have to do. I love a restaurant who's staff truly care about their customers experience. Great service always keeps me coming back for more. But when the food is just as great, even better of course. Randy had the ruby trout. It was a very nice pink salmon like fish with a delicious honey lemon marinade. I had to go heavy. That wasn't the plan but the osso bucco sounded too good to pass up. It was a Valentine special so I figured I'd get it while I could. Was definitely worth it. And I have leftovers. I had to save room for not 1 but 2 desserts. The hot pecan skillet and the valentines special trio of gelato was perfect together! It should always be served together! Oh so good. The trio was decadent gelato's with perfect toppings. Chocolate with chocolate chips topped with strawberries, salted caramel with candied pecans and vanilla with caramel and bananas. Yummmm!! We ate it ALL. Even Karma got some. She was a happy girl. So was her mommy!

Yelp
Great staff and atmosphere! The pretzels and salads are good too. If you want live music go on Sundays!

Yelp
Great say to spend a Saturday night. The Bill Smallwood band playing...good food...great service...a small town place that delivers an enjoyable evening.

Yelp
outstanding chicken fried chicken!! excellent service! we are visiting from mn or i would be back often!

Yelp
Fiancé loved the hot chicken sandwich, although he said he would regret it. Had a bite. Delicious. I had the eggs Benedict. The first round was way overdone, but when they got it right it was perfect. And the sausage, delicious. Sat at the bar. Great service. Friendly chat. And the beer was great!

Susan C.

Yelp
We were here right around the eclipse in April. Unfortunately, they had a limited menu because of the crowds. But their baked and fried chicken sandwiches were delicious. The meat was sooo tender. They also had good beer. My favorite one was their stout. It was exceptional. And the wait staff were super nice.

Matt S.

Yelp
We were there during the week of Thanksgiving, so there were tons of activities going on in town. We were told it would be a couple hours for a table, which we had expected as it was on the street of the Christmas light parade that evening, but the wait wasn't that bad as others gave up along the way. Service was exceptional. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and attentive, even with all of the business coming in and happenings around town. They even had an additional bar/snack area set up for people to buy things outside, but you'd never know it with as quick as everything was. We didn't get too exciting with our food. We just wanted quick and easy. My we had wings which were GIGANTIC. She really liked them. I got a Pizza which is one of their specialties, and it was quite good. Daughter got a kids meal that hit the spot with her! We will definitely be back when in the area!

Dan P.

Yelp
Great pub trio appetizer. It's chips with guacamole, queso and salsa all of whom are very tasty. We enjoyed their reuben as well. It's not your traditional reuben in that they add grilled onions and it's served on a delicious pretzel bun. Good stuff. Plenty to do within walking distance as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is good. Service was fast. The atmosphere is friendly. A must olace if you are in town. Enjoy!

Yelp
Love the food and atmosphere here. Live music is fun too! Good beers. Always love visiting when we go to Johnson City!

Yelp
Pecan Street Brewing is a great local spot in Johnson City! Good beer selection but I came for the food! The pecan chicken fried chicken was delicious with a "side" of bacon mac n cheese. The side was served in a good-sized skillet and had a little kick to it. The pizza also looked really good. Thanks Pecan Street!

Jim H.

Yelp
Chicken fried chicken was excellent especially with Screwy Blond beer. Service with a humorous attitude. Love it. My wife had the winter salmon and called it good. Coming back.

Yelp
Food is great! Loved the pizza! Best fries I've had in a long time! Service is outstanding-Jason did a great job with our crew!

Yelp
I'm a fan of micro breweries and have been for many years. I went to my first one in Colorado in 1991 and have actively sought them out since. Having been to countless micro breweries, I have to say the Pecan Street Brewery in Johnson City, Texas is absolutely the best one I've visited in the Lone Star state and in the top 3 all time! Not only is their beer of the highest quality and like all good breweries, has a wonderful offering from pilsners to porters, but their food is also worth taking-in, as well. On top of all that, Johnson City is a quaint, beautiful small town in the Texas Hill Country in the heart of the Texas Wine Corridor. In other words, there's something for everyone making it a fantastic place to visit. I highly recommend this establishment where you'll be greeted with genuine Texas hospitality, great food and even better beer. Cheers!

Rhonda V.

Yelp
Everything about this place was great! Food was fresh and so good! Service was excellent and loved the ambiance of the place. We had a variety of items on the menu and every single item was delicious!! Definitely a must when in Johnson City. You will not be disappointed

Yelp
This establishment is awesome! I've never been disappointed. I love the fried mushroom appetizer. The Pecan glazed chicken is my favorite. The screw loose blonde pale ale tastes great. I can't say anything bad regarding them. We drive about two hours to just eat either lunch or dinner.
