10 Lovely Restaurants and Bars in Longueuil, Quebec | Eater Montreal

"Tucked into Rue Saint-Charles Ouest, Péché Matinal feels more a modern art museum than a café. The vaulted glass ceiling and contemporary photography and paintings create a welcoming, airy space ideal for wasting away a weekend morning sipping coffee. Indulge in brunch classics like gravlax plates and French toast, or more innovative fare like the “grilled cheese du terroir,” a decadent grilled cheese sandwich with bacon, wild mushrooms, and squash."

Disappointing Brunch Despite High Hopes After hearing rave reviews from friends and seeing positive ratings online, my family and I visited Pêche Matinal on Saturday morning, May 10, 2025, with high expectations. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the hype. We arrived around 10am and waited in line for 30 minutes—reasonable for a popular spot. The atmosphere inside was pleasant, with a cozy and inviting vibe. However, the food fell short. We ordered three different dishes, but none aligned with our tastes. The flavors were overly salty, and the smoked salmon paired with cream cheese didn’t work well—the balance was off, making the dish unappetizing. Considering the price point, we expected better execution and more refined flavors. While the ambiance and service were decent, the food itself left us disappointed. We wouldn’t return or recommend it for brunch, especially given the many other great options in the area. Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) – Just okay, but not worth the wait or cost.

We called at 8:10am to ask if we could reserve a table and we would be there in half an hour. The waiter said no, but they had four empty tables that could be used by the group. When we arrived we were seated at the front door, less than 70cm away from the door. The waiter said there was no other place for six people. The whole meal we had our faces facing the queue, people kept opening the door behind the chairs and talking, it was very noisy. The food was beautifully presented, but very salty. My husband ordered a bread dish that was oily, sweet and salty. I think my organs would have to work all day to digest this breakfast. First and last time.

Food was good, but it felt heavy even though the portions were a bit smaller than expected, and regular coffee wasn't even included.. I liked that the poutine sauce wasn't a hollandaise for a change. But I don't know what kind of curds they use, but they were all melted. I didn't like the atmosphere at all for a breakfast restaurant. Maybe if we were seated in the back with all the lights from the roof, it would have been better. The front was too dark and too noisy, the music was too loud, I couldn't even hear my girlfriend talking.

Google
Cute place! Excellent menu options! My pesto omelet and latte were delicious. Service was great. Only slight downside, if you will, is the street parking is difficult to find. I drove around for 15mins looking for a spot and then there was a huge line up outside to get a table (it was a Sunday morning). It was crowded inside and you had to pass the open kitchen to get to the back, but overall great experience, I would come back just for the delicious food alone!

Péché Matinal is everything you want in a breakfast spot—warm, vibrant, and utterly unforgettable. We decided to give it a try on a recommendation, and wow, we’re so glad we did. From the moment we arrived, we could see this place is a local favorite; a line had already formed outside, hinting at the delicious experience awaiting us. Although we waited around 20 minutes, it was absolutely worth it. The restaurant’s layout is narrow and cozy, with a delightful solarium at the far end where sunlight filters in, creating a charming, inviting atmosphere. The space was packed, yet the service didn’t miss a beat. Despite the crowd, the staff was attentive and cheerful, making us feel welcome from start to finish. Now, let’s talk about the real star—the food. Péché Matinal has elevated breakfast to an art form. Each dish is brimming with flavor, thoughtfully crafted, and generous enough to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. Whether you’re craving classic breakfast fare or something more inventive, every bite is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. And for the quality you’re getting, the prices are more than reasonable. This place has quickly become our go-to breakfast spot, and we’ve already returned several times. If there’s one thing I’d suggest improving, it’s the lineup management outside, which can be a little chaotic at peak times. But honestly, that minor inconvenience is a small price to pay for such an incredible dining experience.

If ever you’re in Old Longueuil this is the BEST place for breakfast, brunch or just to have a light snack/drinks. Absolutely amazing food, friendly service and the atmosphere is charming. Food portions are great, flavorful, fresh and very tasty. They also have gluten free, vegetarian and lactose free options. My M-law was very pleased and can’t stop raving about the fact that they had GF+ lactose options. New favorite spot to indulge in some delicious food options.

Normal menu Very nice service Too noisy Maybe you should wait in a line before entering Fair price The taste of smoothies are very normal and are not the same level as this restaurant.

Google
This restaurant has a unique layout, narrow and long, divided into two distinct zones. The front was dim and cozy, the back has an atrium that is bright and elegant. We were fortunate to be seated in the very back, comfy and peaceful. The food was exceptional, nicely plated and refined in taste. The coffee was rich and aromatic as expected. However, this restaurant was overwhelmed by its own success. We arrived early on a Sunday morning, only to find a lineup already forming in front. We had to stand in the cold for at least half an hour to 45 minutes.

Yelp
It's nice to have a breakfast restaurant on St-Charles street ( it was missing before). It's good but choice is a bit limited : It'S either omelettes, french toasts or grilled cheese, so don't expect 2 eggs bacon ! But the food and coffee are good and service is excellent.

Yelp
Always our first choice for a relaxed and joyful breakfast/brunch week days or weekends. Friendly and efficient service, cozy laid back ambiance. Suggest to go there early to avoid big waiting crowds tho. a must try breakfast/brunch spot when you visiting the south shore ^^

Yelp
Lined up for around half an hour before being seated, totally worth the wait! Came here with my boyfriend's family. We ordered the pear grilled cheese, ham grilled cheese, French toast with fruits, egg Benedict in bread pudding and a deer Sausage omelet. Both grilled cheese sandwiches were really good! I'm usually not a fan of grilled cheese but these had a good smoky flavor. The pear was a great balance to the heavy dish. I really liked the egg Benedict! It was a very large portion with lots of hollandaise sauce. The omelette was packed with lots of protein as well. The French toast was one of my favorites. The bread was so soft and fluffy, with a nice crisp on the outer layers. The fruits and syrup were a great compliment to the toast. Overall I really liked how this place put a unique twist or element in each traditional brunch dish. They gave great portions as well. Highly recommend this brunch place!

Yelp
What an absolutely wonderful experience for brunch. The line was really out the door when we arrived for a Friday morning brunch and waited approx 25 minutes to be seated. The seating area in the back is absolutely gorgeous with the skylight and faux plants on the walls. We ordered: 1. French Toast: delicious! Crispy but soft with lots of fruits floating in syrup. This was decadent. 2. Pear & Brie Grilled Cheese: also, decadent. The brie was soft and melted that did a terrific pull. The potatoes and salad were a great accompaniment to the dish. 3. Chai Latte: get this!! The service was warm and welcoming. There are both English and French menus that help your serve differentiate what language to converse with the table. Absolutely one of the best brunch spots I've been to.

Alicia B.

Yelp
Wonderful place! They close the kitchen at 3:00, but the kitchen closes at 2:00. We arrived at 2:12 and they accommodated us. The service was friendly and the food was awesome!

Yelp
Pooh and I came here for breakfast today. I had the grilled cheese du terroir and Pooh had the grilled cheese with ham. I accompanied my sandwich with a latté made with almond milk. Both sandwiches were delish!! The bread was crispy and not thick so each piece was easy to pick up. When I see "crusty bread" I cringe because most of the time it's so thick I have to use a knife and fork but not here - the bread was the perfect thinness Served with fried potatoes and greens. The only negative comment is the grilled bread was very greasy.

Julien B.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast restaurant in Quebec! The panko french toast is the best. I mean what I say.

Yelp
I just had the best breakfast dish, EVER! You know you are in for a special treat when the place is packed at 9am on a week day. Forget getting in for brunch on Sunday without a reservation. When I say it was the best breakfast dish, I'm not exaggerating. It started with an excellent exquisite flat white espresso. Made to near perfection. Bonus, they are refillable :) After looking at the menu, and seeing all the great pics here on Yelp, I just could not decide what to order. Plan B kick in, "tell the chef to cook whatever he would like". Oh boy, that was a smart decision. What a fraken treat!! Every.single.bite. was an explosion of flavors. Multi dimensional flavors, so fresh, so we'll balanced between salty, sweet and savory. Un.be.li.vable! The attention to details in my plate was, what I can only describe as passion, visible with each bite. Bending the trend of deconstructed dishes, pêche matinal served us a constructed breakfast dish out of this world. Home fries on the bottom, followed by a flax seed thick toast, some thinly sliced smoked salmon, a bunch of fresh veggies, perfectly ripened avocados with a yummylicious dressing crowns this jeweled of a dish. Pêché matinal is a bucket list item without a doubt! Mark my words, we will be back, very soon!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. When I say hidden, I mean it because it took me 15 minutes, wandering around Saint-Charles in Longueuil to find the spot. Despite the fact that their sign is hard to see, this is one of the best breakfast spots I've tried on the south shore of Montreal. If you want an out of the ordinary breakfast place, that gives you options that you've never seen before (not the typical toasts-eggs-bacon-sausage mix), try it! I always get the plate called "Le Grano" and it fills me up without me feeling disgusting after. It's a great option if you don't eat meat. They have choices for everybody! Also, I've tried their iced coffee with almond milk and it was truly delicious, felt like high-quality coffee. In the summer, they have a cute terrasse and since the street doesn't get too busy, it's not loud. The inside of the restaurant is small, but if you RSVP in advance you'll be fine (I actually recommend to RSVP or else you'll have to wait 15-30 minutes before getting a spot). Parking is accessible on the streets next to Saint-Charles so do not worry about that!

Yelp
Given that it is in Longueuil, it is worth 5*. The south shore definitely lacks selection of good restaurants and brunch places. Located in the Vieux Longueuil, there is definitely a line up on the weekend. I would say that the breakfast/brunch plates are quite flavourful. Great selection of savoury and sweet options. Portions are also quite generous. Pricing is above your average breakfast restaurant but the quality of the food is also superior. I would recommend going there.

Yelp
Went to heaven! We spotted the steeple in the town of Longueuil from the highway. We were famished so decided to check it out for a place to eat. The food was exceptionally well prepared, as were the lattes, and the service was wonderful. Just too much food!
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
Péché matinale is definitely my go to brunch place on the south shore! I've come so many times with friends and family and it's always a hit for everyone. On weekends if you arrive after 9am, expect to wait at least 1 hour. On week days you can arrive anytime and wait 10 minutes maximum. Their French toast is fantastic (especially the salted caramel one!), their healthy breakfasts with homemade yogurt are very good and their lunch-breakfast options are my favourite. They make alot of their own breads. I particularly love heir orange rind and fennel buns. Their lattes and cappuccinos are great but if you want a pipping hot cup of coffee best to go for a filter coffee. They also accommodate cealiacs by offering a.selextion of gluten free bread that can be substituted in any dish. They also have seperate grittles to avoid cross contamination.

Yelp
Amazing & Friendly service! My favourite restaurant during my last visit to Montreal :D Open-faced Sandwich (Tartine with Gravlax) - creamy goat cheese, salmon gravlax, avocado, onions ($13) - comes with a lovely grassy arugula and russet potatoes :) Grilled Cheese with Pears - caramelized pears in maple syrup, brie cheese and bacon on hazelnut and raisin bread ($14) Both were so good! I can't even describe how unique these dishes were because you'd have to try them out for yourself. The dishes were full of surprises!
google avatar

Julie W.

Yelp
Charming restaurant with fantastic food. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The menu had so many great sounding dishes it was hard to choose. We ordered with gravlax and eggs Benedict. Both were excellent.

Yelp
More than what I expected. The best brunch place I've been to thus far. Delicious food, great ambience and great service. What more can I ask for? Expect a bit of a wait, but the wait is worth it. Bonus: They even have a menu in English We ordered the following: 1. Grilled Cheese w/ Pears: 10/10 The best grilled cheese I've ever had. Comes with grilled Brie cheese in between pears and a tasty raisin bread. Came with a light salad w/ hash. Can also opt for fruits ($1.50 more). Great presentation & delicious savoury and sweet taste. Would order this a million times. 2. Grilled Cheese du Terroir: 10/10 This was a great grilled cheese sandwich for those looking on the savoury side. Reminded me of a perogie stuffed with cheddar cheese, bacon, mushrooms & more but with a twist. Great presentation & savoury taste! 3. Country Bread French Toast: 10/10 Big portioning & delicious savoury taste. 4. Banana/Pear Mousse on Banana Bread French Toast: 10/10. The mousse was the best part, nice and smooth with some tiny pineapple bits. The plate also HS their signature homemade Nutella with almonds. If you're craving something on the sweeter side, order this! If you're travelling within Quebec, this is a must try!!

Yelp
The legendary brunch place in old Longueuil! It was super crowded there even on a rainy Thursday morning! If you pay a visit here in the weekend then there's no doubt that you need to lineup, so avoid those busy days! I tried their Amarillo latte, which was not strong enough for me, which was quite a pity because it was quite pricey. We took the smoked salmon bagel and a deer meat sausage casserole with homemade bread, very good but a bit too oily. The price is a bit high too, but clearly people are very willing to pay, since the restaurant was so packed. The service was quite good and I enjoyed the overall dining experience.

Yelp
If you've ever seen Dragged Across Concrete and watched Vince Vaughn enjoy his egg salad, you'll know how I felt eating my grilled ham and cheese on gluten free bread - I never wanted it to end. Highly recommend and good vibes from the staff too.
google avatar

Alexandria D.

Yelp
Be prepared to wait awhile but absolutely worth the wait! The food is spectacular even if the service is a little bit slow, though our waitress was very nice. I ordered the benedict, the bread pudding was so good, the cheddar flavor was perfect and added just enough salt to the dish. There was a ton of meat in the dish as well. I ordered toast just so I could try the homemade jam which was amazing. All in all, highly recommend!

Yelp
Really nice decor , friendly staff and pretty much everything is on the menu is really good usually made with ingredients that are local so their fruits will change with the season. If would definitely recommend the casserolette if you have an appetite or the grilled cheese with pears yummmmm
google avatar

Yelp
Ça c'est un péché matinal. Awesome place for brunch. It is a liittle bit crowded, we had to wait for a while. So we decided to wait at the bar next door and we said to ourselves, mmmm, let's have some beers (it was around 11am). When the table was free at the Peche Matinal, the hostess came personally to the next door bar, and told us that whenever we were ready, we could join the restaurant after finishing our beers. But she also offered to bring plastic cups said that we could enter with the beers from the other bar no problem (that was pretty cool). So we did since we were hungry. We were a little bit on the happy side and when entering the place, everybody could tell and were smiling at us hehehehe. The food is absolutely amazing. Very good place for brunch. I would recommend to sit at the back, it has a nice glass ceiling (it was a sunny beautiful day).
google avatar

Tea K.

Yelp
My friends (party of 4) and I came here on Tuesday and it was very busy. We thought that was a good sign because who wants to eat at a place that doesn't have people in it? The hostess told us it wasn't going to be a long wait, but it took about an hour and 15 minutes. Then it took a while for the food to coke as well. That's the only reason for the loss of one star. Our food however was scrumptious!!! I had the duck config and it was tender, the skin was flavorful and crispy like I like it, and not at all dry. This is how duck is supposed to taste. The carmelized onions eere sauteed perfectly, like the best I've ever had. The mango blueberry jam is heavenly and the bread was the best I've had in a long while. I also had the coconut milk, banana, peach and apricot smoothie and it was also very good.
google avatar

Uyen D.

Yelp
I came here for a brunch with a few friends. Went out the night before and was hoping for a big breakfast : it was awesome !! Great service. We waited only 15 minutes for a table. Definitely a nice seating in the back with the greens
google avatar

Hiro L.

Yelp
I'm not exaggerating when I say this was THE BEST brunch I've ever had. We came on a weekend trip to Montréal and got breakfast here twice. There's usually a line up but it's well worth it for the food. All the dishes we had were absolutely amazing and so different from your traditional North American breakfast. The staff is also extremely friendly and give the place a feel-good vibe, can't wait for my next trip to Montréal/Longueuil to eat here again!
google avatar

Rafic K.

Yelp
The food is spectacularly good. Reasonably priced meals and very friendly staff. Worth the line up at the door! I can't recommend this place enough for a good breakfast or brunch!
google avatar

Colborn C.

Yelp
Top notch, great service and food. Little bit of wait but well worth it. Went with sorry of 6 and all of us said we'd return to try out the rest of the menu, can't wait. I had the duck confit, crispy skin, tasty potatoes and the gravy, so damn tasty. Great cheat meal worth every calorie.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite meals during our brief vacation. I had the "sturdy" omelette which was absolutely to die for. Loads of cheddar cheese and shredded ham with deer sausage. So delicious and savory. My toast came with a type of jam that I don't recall, (apple/rhubarb maybe?) but it was just divine. I wish I could've purchased some to take home with me. My girlfriend had the brioche French toast and it was no joke. A giant slab of bread with a delicious caramel sauce and fresh fruit, nothing could be better. This French toast keeps me up at night.
google avatar

Emy P.

Yelp
One of my spot for breakfast on the south shore of MTL! How about a different restaurant that serve delicious Cassolette and funky french toast. If you're feeling something sweet you HAVE to try their dark chocolate, ginger and pear french toast. Literally paradise in your mouth. The bread has the right texture and is full of flavors. If you're more into salty, the Cassolette with eggs and maple syrup sausage is the one for you. Downside was the coffee. People could describe me as a coffee connaisseur and I'm very picky when it comes to that. So def not the best here. Honey wasn't mixed properly in my latte, which made it way too sweet. Service was fast enough when I went and the staff was courteous. I'll come back and come back again!
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Worth the hype! We walked here from our hotel near the Longeuil metro station. 20 minute wait for 2 on a sunny Friday morning. We treated ourselves to Brazilian coffee, a cider mimosa with cassis, coffees, a bagel sandwich, and the house benedict. Everything tasted fantastic. We had tons of leftovers and took them in a box to go. Service was quick and very friendly, and the restaurant was snug but not too small.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast spot. Everything was spot on from the coffee, to the food, to the service. We came at 9am on a Saturday and there was already a lineup which was quite surprising, however it moved quite quickly. The coffee was outstanding. This was a great plus as too often at breakfast places with refill coffee, the quality seems to be lacking. Also we appreciated how the milk was fresh and came out in a side dish for the coffee. There are many good food options to choose from, and many unique twists on the items. I also loved the choice of fresh baked bread and accompanying fresh jam on the side. Overall, I recommend this spot and can't wait to come back to try more items on the menu as everything looked delicious, and fresh.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
I want to give this place a 5/5. The food is SPECTACULAR...Seriously we had a little of everything Omelette Baked Oatmeal Some parfait thing made with squash (amazing) Pancakes French toast Eggs Coffee Adult Beverages Smoothie for the kids BUT... The service was deplorable...Seriously we waiting a long time for a table...fine...We ordered upon sitting down. Over an hour later we finally got our meal....WHAT?! Yes...an hour later! Then it took 45 minutes to pay the bill. The set up of this place is crazy and has to be breaking some fire codes.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Simply put - one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. Delicious French breakfast. The lineup was worth the wait. Try the French toast! The staff were friendly and very helpful with suggestions.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
I loved getting out of the heart of Montreal (as much as I love it!!!) and experience some local fare, local people. I don't know why this cute little spot doesn't have more reviews- but maybe let's just keep it a small hidden gem? I almost never say this because I love trying new food every time I travel, but I'll be back. Great comfort food, great atmosphere, phenomenal service and very family friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Jay M.

Yelp
Great food but Bad service, The waitress made a mistake with my order and never came back to the table to ask me if everything was OK. She brings me a coffee without any milk or creamers, I had to get up and go get the creamers myself otherwise the waitress would've taken 10 minutes before she brought it. It should be automatic when you give a coffee to a customer... Some waitresses are just brain-dead. I've been working in the restaurant business for years and when you bring food to a table, you're supposed to do a "quality check" like two minutes after the customer has tasted the food, That way if there is a problem With the food, it can be taken care of right away.
google avatar

Kay G.

Yelp
Five stars for food, three for service. We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch; keep in mind that they are only open until 3 pm. There was a line stretching out the door, we were told that they do not take reservations. We waited for about 20 minutes but then were promptly attended to. English menus are available if necessary! The duck cassolette was very good, perfect combo of flavors. We also ordered the egg and bacon omelette which was amazing, with a wonderfully dressed mixed mesclun salad. The bagels and coffee were also quite good. Very reasonably priced. However... After ordering we were told that the duck would take an extra 15 minutes, then that the kitchen "made a mistake" and it would be another 10. We ended waiting almost an hour for our food.
google avatar

Shi C.

Yelp
It's my first time to eat duck leg in Montreal! Very detailed cooking! Nice environment!
google avatar

rene P.

Yelp
Really nice cafe. Service is great. They had an english menu and a separate french menu. The food was good. My french toast had swiss cheese and ham on it. My husband ordered a sandwich with nuts and raisin bread. He loved it. I Really liked the potatoes. I love the decor too.
google avatar

Rosa V.

Yelp
The coffee was dark and delicious. Went there twice, got an egg and cheese omelette that was amazing. The staff was friendly, and the place is quaint. Can't wait to visit again.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Great breakfast place. Friendly service and most importantly more creative and better tasting food then Chez Cora or egg speciation or any other breakfast place.
google avatar

Graham H.

Yelp
Wow! Definitely a hidden gem - I'd never have found it by walking by. Inside it's much bigger than it looks, with a cute "garden" room at the back, and it's packed with lucky locals. Fantastic food and service, and fully translated English menu too.
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
First time and it won't be last tune. Food was good, nice and calm atmosphere. Presentation was nice, they don't serve the same type of food you'll find in the majority of brunch place. I wasn't expected to see that they have kids menu, for sure I'll bring my kids.
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
Good things come to those who wait! If you have time to wait...a while, this is the place for you! Really fresh delicious food but it takes a while to sit down! We were a group of 4 and waited about an hour on a Tuesday morning. Groups of 2 were going in before us but there was room at the bar to sit immediately.

Chad N.

Yelp
Great place. The food is amazing, easily the best breakfast I have ever eaten. The area of the restaurant with the glass roof is a very cool place to eat. The staff and menu were all bilingual and very accommodating. The only downside was how busy the place was, we got there 5 minutes after it opened and it was jam packed by the time we left, so don't come late! A very nice place to eat though

Neli S.

Yelp
Food was gorgeous. It was definitely worth the long drive from.montreal. The service was fast and people were nice. I am looking forward to go back and try another dish

Mathieu D.

Yelp
Amazing place for a different breakfast. Staff if joyful, perfect place to start your day !

John M.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, quaint location, good food........Horrible service. Waited 1 hour to get our food. Wait staff appear to be short staffed.
